I sat on my dorm room bed and eagerly awaited the arrival of my new roommate for my sophomore year here at State in the great state of Texas. I watched my little TV to occupy my time until a knock came at the room. I strolled to answer the door and eagerly anticipated seeing my roommate that had been assigned to me.

"Hey Reed, wassup?" I asked my RA.

"Jeff, I just got word that as for now you have the room to yourself. Your roommate switched schools on us at the last minute," Reed replied.

"That's cool," I smiled. "I guess I'll get one later then, huh?"

"There's a chance you probably will," Reed said. "That is unless you find someone willing to move in with you."

"I'll ask around but I seriously doubt it," I said. "Bout everyone I know lives off campus now."

"Yeah, that's pretty common around here. If you need anything, just let me know," Reed said. "If nothing else, I could use some help every now and then, if you're interested."

"Sure, I'll think about it," I replied and returned to watching television. I was used to delays and rejections after growing up in a foster home. I was used to having high hopes and then shoved back to the ground. I enjoyed my time there the best I could but was ready to leave when that day came last year before my freshman year. I knew going to college was my way up in the world and just needed a break somewhere down the line.

The next day, I woke as usual and headed down the hall to shower. I looked around and saw all new faces except for one guy who was just an acquaintance from the previous year. I dropped my robe and did what was needed. Growing up as I did, a community shower was not a big deal to me but could see the shyness exhibited by some of the freshman at this unique encounter. There were about 7 of us to start the morning off showering. I could see the array of body types from fit to a little overweight. I tried staring at the wall in front of me while showering, knowing some guys didn't care for the occasional glimpses at their privates.

I toweled off and headed back to my room. I put on my shorts and t-shirt, and old underwear on this hot sticky day. I tried my best to get my mop of brown hair to do something before throwing on a baseball cap for class.

I headed off to class and finally came up a familiar face among the sea of students. It was Gerald a friend I had made in the dorms last semester. "Hey Jeff, how's it going?"

"Good and you?" I replied.

"Not bad. Where you living this semester?" he asked.

"Back at the dorms again," I said.

"Damn dude, I forgot and my bad. Hey I'm down at those new apartments just off campus if you ever want to stop by," Gerald said.

"Thanks, I still have your number somewhere and will give you a call sometime," I said. "See ya later." I headed in the building of my first class. I was envious of a lot of the guys that I knew from the dorms the year before since they were now able to live off campus. I was just lucky to live where I did and didn't have much gripe coming. Going to high school, early on I had to come to the realization of the haves and have nots. I learned to live with it and just move on. Sure I could dream but knew soon my day would come.

After class and eating with another friend in the Student Hall, I headed back to the dorms to rest for a little while. I climbed the stairs to my second story room. I headed down the hall and passed Reed.

"Jeff, hold on just a minute. Can I talk to you in my room alone?" Reed asked.

"Sure, what's going on?" I asked once Reed shut the door in his single room.

"There's been a situation in another dorm where my friend is the RA. Two assigned roommates weren't exactly made for each other," Reed said while leaning on his desk.

"So I get one of them, huh?" I asked.

Reed took a deep breath, "Jeff, I said you might not mind taking one of them. You're gay, right?"

"Yeah, how'd you know?" I was stunned but by the end of last semester I had came out to some guys in the dorm. A few knew first hand but I won't go there right now.

"Let's just say I heard last year. It's really none of my business as far as that's concerned. You see one admitted he was gay to the other. The other is your basic homophobe and threw a fit over it. So would you take the gay one since you're both gay?"

"Oh damn Reed, I wanted the homophobic one," I laughed. "Do I have a choice?"

"I guess so. Would you like to meet him first before deciding?"

"Yeah, that would be cool," I said.

Reed got on his phone and called the RA to talk. He hung up after a few minutes. "Rick said he would let him know. I gave him your room number, so you can decide for yourself."

"Reed, I just ask that this be kept on the down low. You never how the new guys will react here," I said.

"It'll be between us," Reed said and gave me a pat on the back. "Thanks, Jeff."

I headed to my room and threw my backpack. My plans of returning to gather my books were put on hold. I lay on my bed and waited for the new guy to appear.

I was just about asleep when a light knock came at the door. I opened the door and saw a very cute guy standing in front of me. I was shocked at his jock look at first glance.

"Are you Jeff?" he said quietly in a rather deep voice.

"Yeah," I replied. "Come on in."

"Thanks, I'm Lance. I take you heard all about what happened, huh?" Lance said.

"Just the main part," I said. "Have a seat and we can talk."

"Thanks a lot. Boy what a way to start college. I just mentioned in passing that I liked guys and he went ballistic on my ass. I tried to tell him that I would never touch him but he said just having me in the room and knowing I was gay was enough," Lance said.

"Yeah, I bet you were a little shocked, huh?" I said.

"Hell yeah. I've never been treated like that before and felt like I had the worst disease ever," Lance said. "I don't guess I have to ask if you're gay?"

"Yeah but not really that open about it," I said. "Honestly, I was shocked my RA knew but you know how word gets around."

"So is it a yes or no?" Lance asked quickly before I even thought about it.

"No one should have to put up with being degraded like you said you were, so how can I say no?" I said.

"Awesome, I guess I'll go get my things. You wanna help me?" Lance asked.

"Sure, I'll help you move," I said.

Thankfully he drove and we headed to his dorm in his SUV. The second we entered the room, I saw his roommate. "I'm moving!" Lance said.

"About fucking time, faggot!" his roommate said. "I hope you two enjoy sucking each other's dick every night. My ass is out of here. You better not touch my shit!"

"Like I would want your old shit. I'm taking the TV and frig too," Lance said. His roommate left in hurry. We quickly packed up his things as quick as we possibly could. I was impressed with the amount he had brought to college and more impressed with all his clothes. I snuck a peek and was thrilled to see Lance and I were close to the same size. It took us a couple of trips to get all his things. He told me his parents helped him move in but that was evident.

After getting all his things in my room, I headed back to finish up buying what books I needed for the semester with my financial aid. I headed back. I stopped by Reed's room to tell him but he was out at the time but left a note on his door.

I opened the door and found Lance there lying on the bed without a shirt. I tried my best not to stare at his fit body but I was a sucker for six packs and this dude definitely had one hell of a six pack. He had blonde hair that he parted in the middle and killer blue eyes.

"Stop staring, Jeff. You better get used to seeing me, you know?" Lance smiled.

"I know but damn," I said mesmerized.

"You've seen me, now off with your shirt," Lance said. I had nothing to be embarrassed about other than being a tad bit thin. I lifted off my shirt over my mop. Lance smiled, "Nice Jeff. I'm a sucker for thin guys."

"Thanks," I said. "I guess you're all moved in, huh?"

"Yeah, I couldn't help notice that you didn't bring much, huh?"

"It's all I have," I said.

"You're kidding, right?"

"Lance, I grew up in a foster home. What you see is all I have to my name. I don't even have a car yet but I'm trying to save to get one."

The expression changed suddenly on his face, "You're serious, aren't you?"

"Yeah I am."

"I feel bad now that I even said anything to you about it. I put your TV in your closet. I hope you don't mind?"

"Nah I just had that one just in case. I like yours. I can actually see without using my binoculars," I laughed.

"Do you mind me asking if you were out back at the home?"

"I wasn't out until I came here. I knew I was there but I had to keep it under wraps. You get used to hiding it after a while and it becomes a part of you," I said.

"That's cool," Lance said. "So you don't have any parents?"

"I have parents but not like you. My dad was killed when I was three, so my mom told me. My mom is in jail for who knows how long. I haven't talked to her since they found me abandoned when I was eight," I said.

"I'm sorry Jeff. We don't have to talk about this if you don't want to," Lance said.

"I don't mind. It does me good sometimes and gives you a little understanding of my situation," I said and told Lance all about growing up in the home. He was full of questions and I answered them as truthful as I could or wanted him to know about. Lance seemed interested in my life up til then which was refreshing since my old roommate and I rarely talked about it since he was from a broken home and show little sympathy towards me.

"Man, some people don't know how good they got it. I will never again be disappointed with a nice new polo shirt just because I don't like the color," Lance said.

"It's fine if you are. It's human nature. I look at it as just the beginning of my life and makes me work that much harder to become something in this world," I said.

"Jeff, you have a great attitude about it. Most people would be pissed at the world and think everyone owed them something. You really don't seem that type and just accept the facts and move on. Do you even have a cell phone?"

"No, I see everyone with them and am so envious like your cool one that you got. You just learn to live without them," I said.

"Excuse me just a minute," Lance said and stepped out in the hall with his cell phone. I just sat on my bed until the door opened.

"Hey Reed," I said, seeing him.

"You said you wanted to see me," Reed said. "I think you found your new roommate, huh?"

"Yeah, that's Lance out in the hall. He's already moved in," I said.

"Great, I do owe for this one, but my friend called me earlier and told me he was moving," Reed said. "Take care and let me know if you need anything."

"See ya," I said.

Lance came back in the room, "You'll have a phone here Wednesday with service."

"Dude, I don't take hand outs. I earn my things," I said.

"I thought you might say that but my dad's company recycles old ones. Mom said the service is on us since you were kind enough to let me room with you," Lance said.

I smiled, "You're a good guy. You'll have to teach me how to use one and show me how to text message like everyone else does around here."

"Don't worry, I'll show you everything about them and in no time, your phone will be blowing up with your boyfriends asking for a date," Lance smiled.

"Yeah like yours, huh?" I smiled.

"I wish. I broke up with mine this summer. You have one?" Lance asked.

"Nah, I just play the field," I smiled.

"Jeff, you wanna show me around here and grab a bit to eat while we're out?" Lance asked.

"Sure, I can do that," I said. We changed real quick and headed out to me to show my new friend around and to grab something to eat. I introduced Lance to a couple of my friends that we saw while we were out before we headed to the dorm.

Lance jumped on his bed and I sat on mine. "Are you involved in the gay group here on campus?" Lance asked.

"No, I pretty much keep to myself and not active," I said.

"I was in high school and started a gay-straight alliance my junior year. It really helped out a lot and helped the straight ones see we were actually human unlike that asshole in my room earlier," Lance said.

"You are very proud of who you are, aren't you?" I asked.

"Why not? There's nothing I can really do about it. It's like how you handle coming from an orphanage. You handle that with a lot of class," Lance said.

"I guess you're so right. I never thought of it that way," I replied.

"Jeff, I'm glad this worked out the way it did. Feel free to borrow or use anything of mine. I don't care at all," Lance said.

"Thanks, I might borrow a shirt or two if you don't mind," I said.

"Sure dude, I've got a lot here and even more at home. Just help yourself," Lance said.

We watched television and just talked to form a nice bond that I enjoyed. About 11 or so, Lance stood up and took off his clothes to go to sleep. I just watched him undress. He discretely pulled down his yellow boxer briefs with his back turned. He definitely had one sweet ass. He quickly jumped under the covers. "I take you sleep nude," I said.

"Oh yeah, have ever since I can remember. Do you?" Lance said.

"No but..." I said.

"Go for it," Lance said.

I stood slid off my shorts and then my worn briefs. "I guess it's not like we won't see each other every morning," I said.

"Damn, I like what I see though," Lance smiled. I knew he was staring at my cock. I crawled under the sheets and in no time was sound asleep.

The alarm woke us up the next morning at 8:30 for our 9:30 Tuesday morning classes. I turned off the alarm while Lance was still asleep. I shook him slightly. "I heard the alarm!" Lance screamed at me.

"Just making sure," I said. "The showers are down the hall in case you didn't know."

"I know," Lance mumbled.

I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around my waist. I headed to the shower. When I returned, Lance was still in bed. I shaved and brushed my teeth. I put on my clothes and waited. He finally drug his naked body out of bed. He was so hot it was unbelievable. His cock looked average and hung so nicely between his legs framed by a light patch of hair. He threw on some bikini underwear, some nice khaki shorts and a t-shirt. He brushed his teeth and washed his face before spraying on some cologne.

"I take you noticed I'm a tiger in the morning," Lance finally spoke.

"No shit, I couldn't help but notice," I laughed. We grabbed our backpacks and headed to class. We said goodbye and went our separate ways. I headed to my class to start the semester.

When I returned, Lance was already back and relaxing at his computer with just some shorts on.

"How was class?" I asked.

"Oh alright I guess. I don't know a good one from a bad one yet," Lance replied while staring at the screen.

"What you looking at?" I asked.

"Oh, just a picture my friend Stephanie sent me. She's cute, huh?"

I glanced down at the screen, "Yeah she is. Where's she going to school?"

"At Princeton," Lance replied, "I take you know where that is?"

"Not exactly but I do know you have to have some smarts to get in."

"You got that shit right," Lance said. "She was a big help to me when I came out in the tenth grade. She has always been there for me throughout my struggles. How was your day?"

"Oh about the same," I said. "Lance, how did you get so fit?"

"Soccer at school and I lived in our pool this summer," Lance said.

"Yeah, you are pretty dark," I said. "It must be nice."

"It... Jeff, I'm sorry," Lance paused.

"Hey, don't think nothing of it. I'm used to it by now," I said. "I like hearing how the other half lives."

"I take you don't have a computer, huh?" Lance said.

"Nah, I just use the one in the library," I said.

"You feel free to use mine any time. What's your major by the way?"

I smiled, "Right now, I'm leaning towards finance but that could change. Any ideas for you yet?"

"No I thought about history but my parents tell me that won't get me too far. I actually love history and have always been fascinated by it," Lance said.

I changed clothes into something more comfortable and just lay on my bed watching Lance's bright nice television. Lance turned off his computer and walked towards me in our small room. "You care if I lay with you?"

"Of course not," I smiled.

He came and lay right next to me. He touched my arm and sent chills down my spine. "Jeff do you believe in love at first sight?"

I smiled, "I didn't til I saw you."

Lance leaned over and kissed me. I was definitely glad he made the first move. It was a super first kiss. "You know we're going to be okay living here together," Lance said.

"You know I was thinking the same thing," I replied.

We kissed again until a knock came at the door.
