This ia a story that spans the generations. Lance finds love and romance with someone he feels he has known all his life.
This is my newest short story I posted just before Christmas. Lance has returned home after not being able to complete his life long dream, going into space. He feels his life has no meaning and he struggles to regain his self worth. He finds what he is looking for in the form of an abused little boy and his friend Ethan
Last Time:
Marc held Bobby in his arms slowly rocking back and forth rubbing his back as he softly said, “It’s going to be all right. It’s going to be all right. Shush.”
Bobby’s crying had not let up and Marc was becoming concerned. Placing the palm of his hand against Bobby's back Marc looked deep down inside himself and drew on his strength.
Bobby felt Marc’s hand on his back. The hand that was trying to comfort him. The hand that felt so good. The warmth of that hand slowly started to spread across his back. That warmth felt like a blanket. A blanket that made him feel safe and loved. As that feeling spread, Bobby's sobs diminished. It wasn’t long before the only sounds was that of Marc telling him it was going to be all right. He was going to be all right. He was no longer alone and that he was loved.
Bobby looked up at Marc and he saw tears running down his face. Reaching up he brushed a tear off Marc’s cheek.
Marc looked down at the boy in his arms, “Are you feeling better?”
Bobby nodded, “Yes, thanks.”
Marc slowly lowered the boy back onto his bed. “Why don ’t you try to get some sleep,” Marc said as he brushed a lock of hair from Bobby's eyes. “I’ll stay right here until you fall asleep.”
“Marc, will you sleep with me? I need you to hold me.”
“Sure, son. Move over.” Marc slid in next to Bobby. Bobby snuggled into Marc resting his head on Marc’s shoulder. Marc’s strong arm wrapped around him, pulling in even closer.
“Is this better?” Marc asked.
“Yes,” Bobby softly said as he took in a deep breath. Bobby took in the scent of Marc. A scent he knew so well. The same sent he had always smelled when his dad would hold him when he was little. It was a comforting scent. He knew when he was in his dads arms he was safe and loved. Bobby knew he wasn’t in his dad's arms. He knew Marc was holding him, and he knew he was also safe in this mans arm's.
“Try to get some rest.”
“I will. Goodnight, Dad.”
“Goodnight, Son.”
Chapter 64
Bobby had his nose glued to the window as their plain made the final turn into Orlando International Airport. Marc gritted his teeth as the pressure from Bobby's grip on his had started to become uncomfortable. Marc squeezed back getting Bobby's attention. “Easy Sport. I will need to the use of that hand.”
“Oh, sorry,” Bobby said as he released Marc’s hand. “This is so cool.”
The runway quickly approached and before he knew it the plane gave a shutter as the wheels of the landing gear made contact with the runway. The engines roared as the pilot put them into reverse thrust. As the plane slowed Bobby unbuckled his seatbelt and started to get up.
Placing a hand on Bobby's chest Marc said, “Hold on there. You can’t get up until the plane stops moving.”
Bobby slumped back in his seat and let out a big sigh. The plane came to the end of the runway and turned left. Bobby watched as they approached the terminal and was astounded when they went right past it. “What’s going on?” Bobby asked.
Marc looked out the window, “Oh, didn’t I tell you? The pilot is going to drop us off at the house.”
“You’re kidding right?”
Marc laughed, “Yeah, I’m kidding. There are a whole bunch of planes ahead of us on the ground. As soon as our gate is open we will pull up to it.”
“How long will that take?”
“I don’t know,” Marc said as he looked around the cabin. “Does it look like the flight attendants are going to serve us another snack?”
Bobby got up part way and looked toward the back of the cabin. Marc started to chuckle. Bobby looked down at Marc, realizing once again, Marc was pulling his chain.
“It’s not funny to make fun of the handicapped.”
“Your only disability is you are so gullible,” teased Marc.
Bobby, continued to look out the window, “I think we’ve passed that same jet twice already.”
Marc chuckled to himself as he rested his head against the back of his seat.
“Yes!” Bobby shouted as their plane turned toward the terminal.
“Darn, I was looking forward to another snack,” Marc said while getting an 'up yours' look from Bobby.
Their plane finally came to a halt. Marc stood up and removed his carry on bag from the overhead storage compartment. Bobby stood impatiently wanting to get off the plane. As the two of them exited the jet way Marc scanned the crowd looking to see who was going to pick them up. Not spotting anyone in an *Nsync disguise Marc guided Bobby toward the shuttle station.
They moved with the crowd into a long corridor then everyone just stopped.
“What’s going on?” Bobby asked.
Marc pointed to the shuttle train approaching the station. “We’re waiting for that.”
“We’re taking a train?”
“Actually it’s called a people mover. It takes the passengers from the gates to the main terminal.”
The shuttle stopped and its doors swished open. The mass of people stepped aboard quickly filling the cars. Marc motioned for Bobby to grab an overhead hand rail just as the doors closed and the shuttle pulled out of the station. Craning his neck Bobby spotted several other shuttles going to different buildings.
Their tram pulled into the station and everyone moved off and down another tunnel. As they emerged Bobby let out a, “Wow!” They had emerged in the massive atrium. “This doesn’t look like an airport.”
Pointing up one level Marc said, “That’s a Hyatt Hotel and this lower area is a mall.”
“Cool!”
“Come on, let’s get you bags,” Marc said as he led the way to baggage claim area.
As they neared their baggage carousel Marc noticed a big man holding up a sign. Chuckling to himself, Marc tapped Bobby on the shoulder and pointed to the man.
Bobby stopped to figure out what was going on. The man was holding up a large piece of cardboard with his name on it. Turning to Marc, “What’s going on?”
“I don’t know. Maybe you should ask him.”
They walked up to the big man holding the sign, Bobby staying real close to Marc. “I, I’m Bobby Joe Brown,” Bobby said timidly.
Marc grinned at Jim, on of *Nsync’s security staff, giving him a wink.
“It’s nice to meet you Mr. Brown. I’ve been sent to pick you up.”
“Really?”
“Jim, I was expecting one of the guys to meet us.”
“They didn’t want to chance meeting Lou here.”
“He’s here?” Marc asked nervously.
“Relax, his plane took off twenty minutes ago,” Jim laughed.
Marc let out a sigh of relief.
“Lou asked Johnny if there was someone available to take him to the airport. After telling Lou he’d arrange everything he gave Lance a call to check when your flight was coming in. Johnny didn’t want Lou spotting Lance, since you and he were suppose to be out of town, so I’m doing double duty,”
Bobby had been watching Marc’s and Jim’s exchange when something popped into his head. Looking up at Jim, Bobby asked, “Weren’t you at Disneyland with us?”
“Yes, I was,” Jim grinned.
“Jim is part of *Nsync’s security detail,” Marc pointed out. Just then a bell sounded and bags started dropping onto the baggage carousel. “Come on let's find your bag and get out of here.”
Bobby’s eyes really bugged out when they walked up to a big limo. “We get to ride in that!” Bobby shouted.
Marc ushered Bobby into the back of the limo as Jim placed their bags in the trunk.
“This is so neat! Will we be riding in a limo all week?”
“No, I’m afraid not,” Marc laughed. “We have regular vehicles. I own a van and Lance has a 4 x4.”
Bobby and Marc waved to Jim as he pulled away from the curb. Lance was standing in the front door as they approached.
“Welcome,” Lance said as he stepped back to let them in. “How was your trip?”
“It was awesome,” Bobby declared as Lance closed the door.
“It was too long,” Marc declared as he gave Lance a kiss.
Bobby giggled at their kiss.
The color drained from Lance’s face when he realized they had kissed in front of Bobby.
“Get use to it kid,” Marc said to Bobby. “We talked about this yesterday.”
“I know. It’s just I’ve never seen two guys kiss before,” Bobby said as he studied his shoes.
“You never kissed you father?” Marc asked.
“Yeah, sort of.”
Marc put his arm around Bobby drawing him close. “You will find I am quite free with my hugs and kisses. If I feel you need one I’m going to give you one,” Marc declared as he leaned down and gave Bobby a kiss on the cheek.
“Marc, stop embarrassing him,” Lance said as he pulled Bobby out of Marc’s grasp. “Come on I’ll show you your room.”
Picking up the bags Marc followed Lance and Bobby up the stairs.
Lance was sitting on the bed looking over paperwork when Marc came in. “You got him all settled in?”
Crawling on the bed next to Lance Marc leaned in for a kiss. Lance pushed his paperwork aside wrapping his arms around Marc’s neck, joining in on the kiss.
The sound of water running greeted them as they broke the kiss. Lance’s puzzled expression caused Marc to chuckle. “Won’t he rust if he gets his legs wet?”
“He’s not the tin man,” Marc laughed. “No they won’t rust. But he does take them off to shower. He just kneels when he showers.”
Lance’s eyes got a far away look.
“What’s on your mind, James?”
“I was just wondering, what are we getting into?”
“In what way?” Marc asked.
“I don’t know. . . How is he taking all this?”
“Physically he is doing great. They had to amputate his legs mid shin giving him full motion of his knees. With his prostheses, he walks normally. When he is in long pants you would never know he has no feet. He runs and rides his bike without any problem. His mental state is still shaky. His self-esteem needs some work. He is self-conscious of his legs and will only wear long pants. He also has reoccurring nightmares about the accident.”
“Did he tell you about them?”
“No, I found out first hand. He had one last night.”
“How did you handle it?” Lance inquired.
Marc smiled slyly, “The same way you handle my nightmares. With hugs and letting him know he is loved.”
“And what about his grandmother?”
Marc sighed, “He is doing better now. He was devastated when he found out about his grandmother. It’s not going to be easy for him with the time comes. But I think knowing he will have a home to come to, when it does happen, helps a lot.”
“What kind of relationship will I have with him?” Lance asked.
“That’s up to the both of you,” Marc said. “Bobby and I have worked out something between us.”
“What did you two work out?”
“I told him I could be his big brother or if he wanted his dad. He said he needed a dad more than a big brother.”
“And me?”
“That’s for you two to work out. You could be his uncle or his other dad. He understands about our public image. I’m Bobby’s legal guardian so calling me dad is no problem. But for you, in the public eye, I think Uncle Lance would work. I’ve already told him about his other uncles and aunts.”
“What uncles and aunts?”
“Aunt Sara and Stacy. Uncle Joey, Chris, Justin, Josh, and Ford.”
“Bobby has struck the jackpot with this new family,” Lance said with a grin.
“Let's not forget the new grandparents,” Marc added.
Chris walked out into the pool area finding his friends lounging around.
“Hey Chris. What’s up?” Joey called out.
“Is Marc back yet?”
“I don’t know,” Joey said. “His plane was due in a couple hours ago. We haven’t seen anything of him yet. Why?”
“As I was coming over here I swore I saw Lance’s folk's car at a traffic light not far from here.”
“You sure?” Justin asked.
“No. I think there were two other people in the car with them.”
Everyone just shrugged, not knowing what to make of it.
Lance, Marc and Bobby were in the kitchen finishing up a light snack, to hold them over till supper when the door bell rang.
“You think on of the guys forgot their key?” Marc asked.
“No. They were hanging out at the studio,” Lance said as he got up to answer the door.
Marc and Bobby followed to see who was at the door.
Lance glanced out the small window of the door and muttered, “Shit!” Opening the door Lance said, “Mom! Dad!”
Marc moved up behind Lance and his heart skipped a beat. “Dad! Sara!”
“Well I’m glad you two remembered who we were,” Jim laughed. “Can we come in?”
“Oh sure,” Lance said as he and Marc stepped aside.
Bobby was peering around the doorway to the kitchen not certain what was going on.
“It’s good to see you all,” Marc said. “I’m just wondering why the visit? We just saw you all last week.”
No one said anything they were all just looking toward the kitchen doorway.
Marc noticed Bobby peering around the edge of the doorway. “Oh!” Marc chuckled. Bobby, come here, son,” holding out his arm to the boy.
Bobby hesitantly approached the group and stood between Marc and Lance.
Lance added his arm to Bobby’s shoulder. “Bobby, I’d like you to meet my mother, Diane Bass and my father, Jim Bass.
Bobby smiled shyly as he offered his hand to Diane, “It’s nice to meet you ma’am. And you sir.”
“What’s this ma’am business,” Diane said as she stepped up to Bobby. “You can call me Diane, all the boys do.” Diane pulled Bobby into a hug.
Jim was waiting his turn when his wife surrendered the boy. “And the name is Jim,” as he pulled Bobby into a hug.
Bobby’s face showed a hint of red after the unexpected hugs.
Marc placed a hand on Bobby’s shoulder, “You’re not through yet, kiddo. . . . This is my dad, Tom Morgan and my sister, Sara Morgan.”
Bobby held out his hand with a little more confidence, “It’s nice to meet you . . . Tom. And you too Sara.”
Justin had gotten up from his deck chair to get another soda when he glanced back toward the other house. ‘Oh, shit!’ Justin said to himself as he saw the group of people exiting the other house. “Ah, Chris.”
“Yeah.”
“You said you thought you saw Lance’s parents' car.”
“Yeah, but I must have been mistaken. Why would they be here when Lance and Marc saw them just last week?”
“Josh, have you talked to Sara today?” Justin asked.
“No. I haven’t been able to get a hold of her since last night.”
“Could it be because she may be on a trip?”
“She didn’t say anything about a trip,” Josh said wondering what Justin was getting at.
“I think I know why you can’t get a hold of Sara,” Justin said with a sly grin.
“How could you know that,” Josh demanded.
“Because Sara is walking across the yard with Doc Tom, Diane, Jim, Lance, Marc, and Bobby.”
“What!” Josh, Chris, and Joey shouted as they sprang from their seats to join Justin looking out the window.
“You guys have two houses?” Bobby asked.
“Yeah,” Marc laughed. “We live in that one.” Marc pointed his thumb over his shoulder at the house they just left. “And that one is where I have my work studio.”
Justin, Chris, Joey, and JC spilled out the pool door. “And the rest of us like to play,” Lance added with a laugh.
As the two groups merged there was a flurry greetings, hugs, and kisses exchanged. Marc kept an eye on Bobby as each of the guys welcomed him hugs and pats on his back. Marc could see the rising anxiety on Bobby’s face. Placing an arm around Bobby’s shoulder Marc moved the two of them over to the side of the yard away from the others.
Diane and Tom watched as Marc moved Bobby away from them. “Did you see it?” Diane asked Tom.
Tom nodded, “I don’t think Bobby was prepared to meet everyone at once.”
“He looked like he was going to have a panic attack,” Diane said. “Thank god Marc saw what was happening.”
“What was happening?” Lance asked as he looked at Marc and Bobby walking away.
“Bobby wasn’t handling meeting everyone at once,” Tom said.
Concern spread across Lance’s face. He wasn’t sure what to do when Diane said. “Go on, Baby. I think Marc can handle this but he could sure use your support.”
Marc led Bobby away from the others. Bobby’s glazed over eyes was of utmost concern to Marc. “How are you doing Kiddo?” Marc asked. Getting no response Marc moved into Bobby’s field of vision. “Bobby, look at me. Look at my face.”
Bobby’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. So many people; Diane and Jim Bass, Tom and Sara Morgan, new grandparents and a new aunt. And uncles, Justin, Joey, JC, and Chris, they are celebrities for Christ sake. Known and loved by millions of people. And Lance, he’s also a part of *Nsync and he’s going to be another uncle or my other dad. I can’t believe I got a new dad. Why is he doing this? We’ve only know each other for less then two months. That day we met I was being my usual ass to everyone. I was mad at everyone and didn’t want any friends. Then this group of celebrities joined up with our group. They volunteered to be our helpers and this big guy comes up to me and introduces himself as Marc, my helper for the day. No matter how much attitude I through at him he kept smiling. Somehow Marc saw through my wall of attitude. And when we came off Splash Mountain I was riding on Marc’s back when he stopped on the bridge and we were hit by a wall of water. That crazy mother was going to stay there until I agreed to drop my attitude. I was coughing up water from the first wave that hit us and it looked like Marc was determined to stay there until I agreed. I saw the next group emerging from the top of the mountain when I agreed to be nice. As the cars started their downward plug Marc ran us off the bridge. I thought I was now safe from this crazy fool but Marc had other ideas. Instead of returning me to my chair he decided to carry me on his back for awhile. He made me open up to him; hell if I didn’t answer him he would have thrown me some river, or fountain. He seemed to take delight at heading for any water we came near.
No one ever understood how I felt. No one could ever understand how much I was hurting from the loss of my family. I thought no one could understand, that was until I met Marc. He understood the pain. When I looked into Marc’s eyes I saw the same pain that was in my eyes.
By the end of the day I knew I had made a friend, the first I’ve made since the accident. And to top the day off, Marc offered to take me to Disney World when I could do it on my own two feet. I guess the only reason I wasn’t fitted with prosthetics earlier was that I didn’t want to accept my condition. I was wallowing in my own self-pity, making my life and everyone else around me miserable.
My spirit was soaring when I got home that night and I told Grams about Marc and what he had offered. But the good feeling didn’t last long. After my first fitting I found out the insurance company wouldn’t pay for the prosthetics because I had waited too long. I was devastated when I called Marc to tell him I wouldn’t be going to Disney World with him. I spent the rest of the day hating the world. No matter what Grams tried she couldn’t say anything to cheer me up. Then Marc called back and told me everything is being worked out and I was to keep my next appointment for the fitting of my new legs. I didn’t know how to think him; I think I was crying so much I’m not sure if Marc was understanding what I was trying to say. The happiest day of my life came when I was able to stand and take the first steps on my own two feet. From that day on I knew nothing was going to stop me.
I’ve had mixed feeling about Marc. At first I hated him. Then when he challenged me, he got my respect. And when I thought I had lost everything again he became my hero. But is that enough to build a new family? Could I love Marc as a dad? Could he love me as a son? Why would he want me? I think those questions were running around in my head last night when we went to bed. The nightmare was the same one I’ve had many times. Everyone was leaving me. I didn’t want to be alone any more.
When I woke from the dream I found I wasn’t alone. Marc was holding me in his strong arms. He rocked me as he rubbed my back telling me I was not alone. And there was someone to love me. That he loved me and we would be a family. I think it was while Marc was holding me that I realized that I did love this man. I need him to be in my life and I want him to be my dad. . . .
“Come on, Son, look at me,” Marc softly called out.
Slowly Bobby’s eyes focused on Marc’s face. He could see the concern in his dad’s eyes. Lance was standing next to Marc looking at him with concern. “What’s wrong?” Bobby asked.
“I think you were a little overwhelmed with everyone showing up,” Marc said. “How do you feel now?”
Bobby wrapped his arms around Marc in a tight hug. “It was scary meeting everyone at once.”
“There is nothing to be frightened about,” Marc said as he hugged Bobby to him. “Everyone here just wants to get to know this great kid I’ve found and brought into our family.”
“You think I a great kid?” Bobby asked looking up at Marc.
Lance joined them in the hug. “Bobby, there’s one thing about Marc you need to understand. He tells you the truth. If he says you are a great kid, he means it.”
Bobby looked between Marc and Lance grinning.
“You feeling better now?” Lance asked.
Bobby nodded, “Yes, much better.”
“Come on, I want to show off my studio to everyone,” Marc said.
“And the awesome pool,” Lance added.
“Wow! The pool is awesome,” Bobby shouted as they entered.
“So, this is where you work?” Diane asked looking at Marc.
“Actually, this is where everyone seems to hang out and play,” Marc said with a sheepish grin. “My play room is this way.”
Marc let the way into the house and down the hall. Stopping at the door Sara started to laugh, “Are you into something kinky, little brother?”
Marc looked at the sigh over the door and joined in laughing. “It was a studio warming gift from Chris.”
“Why is it called the dungeon?” Bobby asked not getting the joke.
“It may be because there are no windows that look out of the studio,” Marc said as he opened the door and ushered everyone inside. As Joey approached Marc took his arm and whispered, “Are your rooms cleaned up? We will need them as guest rooms.”
“Mine is. I’ll go check the others,” Joey whispered as he turned and headed up stairs.
“This is impressive,” Jim said as he looked over control board. “It looks top rate.”
“It’s not the one I had planned to put in. But it seemed Johnny was replacing some of the tour equipment and the old one found it way in here.”
“You made a good impression on Johnny,” JC said. “When he saw this under construction and saw what you were going to put in he sent that one over. He said it was his way of saying thanks for the job you did on our tour.”
Marc opened the door into the main studio. Everyone move toward the piano.
“This is a beautiful instrument,” Diane commented.
“It was our studio warming gift to Marc,” Justin said.
The sound of cymbals drew everyones attention over to Bobby and the drums. “Sorry,” Bobby said as everyone looked at him.
“That’s all right,” Marc said going over to Bobby.
“Neat drums,” Bobby said wide-eyed at the drum set.
“If you think those are neat you should see all his other drums,” Joey laughed.
“What others?”
Marc walked along the long wall of the studio and pushed against the wall opening up dozens of hidden compartments.
“Wow!” Bobby exclaimed as he looked into each compartment. Drums of all sizes and shapes filled more then half of the compartments. The rest held other instruments. One had trumpets of all sizes. “You have enough for a whole band here.”
“Not quite,” Marc laughed.
“Can you play all of these?” Bobby asked.
Marc nodded, “Some better than others.”
“Marc, have you figured out how you are going to get the pipe organ in here?” Joey asked with a grin.
“No, Joe. I’m not sure the neighbors would appreciate it.”
“An organ’s not that big,” Bobby said.
“The console would fit in here with no problem, but the rest of it would fill half the house.”
Bobby looked at Marc like he was crazy.
Lance leaned in to Bobby, “The kind of organ Marc plays are only found in theaters or churches. You know the ones with the big pipes.”
“Really?”
All the guys along with Sara and Tom nodded.
“Awesome.”
After Marc showed everyone the rest of the house, everyone gravitated to the pool area. With refreshment in hand everyone started to relax.
Justin noticed Bobby eyeing the pool. Nudging Bobby Justin asked, “You want to go swimming?”
Bobby looked longingly at the pool as he chewed his lower lip. “I, I, can’t.”
“Why? Can’t you swim?”
“I don’t know if I can,” Bobby said as he looked down at his legs. “I haven’t been swimming since the accident.”
“You’ll never know unless you try,” Justin pointed out.
“I don’t have a suit.”
“That’s no problem. I have one that should fit you. Come on lets go check,” Justin suggested.
Bobby looked questioningly over toward Marc. Marc nodded that it was all right. Bobby followed Justin up to his room to change.
“Bobby doesn’t look too certain about swimming,” Tom pointed out.
“He’s shy about his legs,” Marc said. “He’s afraid everyone will look at him.”
“How about if we all join him,” Diane suggested.
Everyone agreed that was a good idea. Jim gave Chris his car keys so Chris could bring their bags around to this house.
“Why do you have so many swim suits?” Bobby laughed.
“These are just a few of what I have. Swim suit companies have sent us all full assortment of their suits. They hope that one of us would get our picture taken in one of their suits.”
Bobby held up a skimpy red bikini, “You wear this?”
“Only if no one is around,” Justin said as a blush rose.
“Here, this one should work,” Justin said holding up a baggy beachcomber style.
“You sure?” Bobby hesitantly asked.
“It’ll be fine. Go try it on,” Justin said pointing to the bathroom.
When they came down they found Marc waiting for them at the foot of the stairs.
“Looking good Bobby,” Marc said with a grin.
Laughter could be heard coming from the pool area. “What’s going on?” Bobby asked.
“Pool party,” Marc said placing his arm around Bobby’s shoulder.
By the time they reached the pool area Justin had tossed his shirt on a chair and was about to dive into the pool. Looking around Bobby saw that Diane, Jim, and Tom were sitting in the hot tub while everyone else was in the pool.
Pulling a chair next to the pool Marc had Bobby sit down. “You can’t wear them in the pool,” Marc said indicating Bobby’s feet.
Bobby was uncomfortable as he started to unstrap his legs. After removing his right leg he wasn’t sure what to do with it. Marc took it from him and set it down next to his chair. As Bobby removed his other leg Marc removed his shirt. Bobby dropped his leg next to his chair.
“Ready to get wet?” Marc asked as he knelt in front of him. “Come on, climb aboard.”
Bobby climbed onto Marc’s back like he did when they had first met.
“Why is it every time you are carrying me I’m about to get wet?” Bobby laughed.
“Because it’s fun,” Marc said as he dashed to the edged of the pool calling out, “Cannon ball!”
“No!!” Bobby yelled as Marc jumped into the pool.
Bobby sucked air into his lungs and closed his eyes preparing for the water to hit and suck him under. But the water never covered them. In fact he wasn’t even wet. Opening his eyes he saw Marc was standing in water only just below his waist. “Asshole,” Bobby said under his breath.
“What was that?” Marc asked.
“Oh, nothing.”
Marc was walking into deeper water. “I thought you said asshole.” Marc slowly slipped below the surface. Bobby let go of his grip around Marc’s neck and started to dog paddle. Marc came up in front of the boy just out of Bobby’s reach. Marc slowly floated backwards as Bobby swum toward him.
“You’re doing good son,” Marc said as he let Bobby catch up to him.
Bobby threw his arms around Marc’s neck. “I did it.”
“You sure did.”
“I didn’t think I could. But I did.”
“Try treading water,” Marc suggested his own feet barely touching the bottom.
Bobby hesitantly pushed himself away from Marc. Kicking his legs Bobby settled lower in the water but his head remained well above the water. A grin spread across his face as he realized he could tread water.
“You’re doing good, kiddo. Now lay back and float on your back.”
Bobby did as Marc suggested, he easily floated on his back.. A few kicks had him moving across the waters surface.
Marc stayed within arms reach of Bobby. As he gained confidence he started to use his arms, doing a backstroke.
Bobby was perched on Justin’s shoulders preparing to battle Chris on Joey’s shoulders. Lance moved behind Marc, wrapping his arms around him. Marc lay back against Lance enjoying the embrace.
“How are we going to get him out of the pool?” Lance asked as he nuzzled into Marc’s neck.
“Our only hope is that he gets hungry,” Marc chuckled. “Hmm, that feels good.”
“If you like that,” Lance said. “Wait until tonight, and I’ll really make you feel good.”
“You’ve got a date. But remember we need to keep it down, with Bobby across the hall.”
“I don’t think that will be a problem. The way he is going I wouldn’t be surprised if he sleeps like a log tonight.”
Bobby managed to push Chris off Joey's shoulders. Justin and Bobby let out shouts of victory.
Luckily the guys had stocked the kitchen with plenty of food. The barbeque was fired up and soon smell of burgers and hot dogs filled the pool area. Bobby, who didn’t want to go in the pool, had to be dragged out under protest. Since everyone was hungry he agreed to come out with Justin’s help. Marc had towels waiting for them.
“Look at yourself,” Marc said as he helped dry Bobby off. “You are shriveling up like a prune.”
“No I’m not.”
Marc took Bobby’s right hand and held it up in front of Bobby’s face.
Bobby looked at his hand and said, “Oh!”
“I can see I’ll have to limit the amount of time you spend in the pool.”
“Oh, Dad!”
Several heads turned when they over heard the exchange. Diane and Tom gave each other knowing smiles as they turned their attention back to the grill.
After supper every one was relaxing around the pool letting their meal digest.
“What are you’re plans for tomorrow?” Tom asked.
“We had planned on hitting the Disney parks tomorrow,” Marc said.
“That sounds like fun,” Diane said.
“Do you guys want to go too?” Marc asked.
“Sure, why not,” Jim said.
Marc and Lance looked at each other, their minds racing. They both wondered. ‘What’s going on here?’
“We had planned out a full week of theme parks,” Lance said. “How long are you planning on staying? And do you think you are up to all the parks?”
Tom, Diane, and Jim looked at each other with amused expressions. “Don’t you think us old fogies can’t keep up?” Jim said.
“No, of course not,” Lance stammered.
“Sara and I have flights out on Friday morning,” Tom said.
“Your mom and I will drop them off at the airport and then head back home,” Jim added.
Lance looked at Marc, “I think I need to make a few calls. I’ll add four more to our party.”
“Do we need to add anyone else?” Marc asked the group, his eyes falling on Justin.
Justin shook his head, “Mom is taking my brothers to visit my grandparents for a couple days.”
Lance went in to make the calls.
The night sky was clear; the full moon was still a week away. Lance and Marc managed to slip into the backyard strolling among the shadows along the edge of the yard.
“What do you think they are up to?” Lance asked as he walked hand in hand with Marc.
Marc sighed, “I don’t know.”
“Do you get the feeling that they are working together?”
“Now that can be scary,” Marc said. "Our parents working together."
“Maybe they have had second thoughts and are going to give us some grief about Bobby.”
“I don’t know,” Marc said with a shrug. “But I’m sure we will find out before they leave.”
Lance pushed Marc up against a tree and locked their mouths together. Marc’s hands were running over Lance’s back and slipped into the back of his trunks giving the firm buns a squeeze. Giggles from a nearby tree broke the moment.
Marc sighed recognizing the giggler. “I wondered where the two of you were hiding.”
“We’re not hiding,” Sara protested.
“We’re just taking advantage of this lovely night,” JC added as he pulled Sara closer.
“So were we,” Lance said as he tightened his grip on Marc.
“Yeah, we saw,” Sara laughed.
“Are you two going to do all the parks with us?” Marc asked. “Or have you other plans?”
Sara looked to JC, “We’ll do the parks with everyone. But we may go off on our own.”
“Just let us know so we don’t end up waiting around for you,” Lance pointed out.
“We will,” JC said as Sara started to nibble on his ear.
“I think we are interrupting,” Marc whispered to Lance.
“Our transport will be here at seven,” Lance announced.
“We’ll see you then,” Marc said as he took Lance’s hand and headed for the house.
Marc and Lance were cuddling on the couch enjoying some quiet time together. The lights were low and soft music was playing in the background.
“There you are,” Diane said entering the living room. Jim and Tom entered right behind her.
“Were you looking for us?” Marc asked.
“We want to talk to you two,” Tom announced.
Bobby had just come out of the studio when he saw JC and Sara. “Have you seen my. . . Marc?”
Sara smiled, “That wasn’t what you wanted to say, is it?”
Bobby blushed at the near slip up. “No. I was going to say my Dad.”
Sara pulled Bobby into a hug. “That sounds a lot better. Your dad and Lance are over at the house.”
“Thanks,” Bobby said as he turned to leave.
“We are just saying, have you really thought this through?” Tom asked.
“What are you going to do with him when you are both on tour?” Diane asked. “You two need to think about the boy and what. . . . “ Diane froze in mid statement when she saw Bobby standing in the door way.
Marc looked to where Diane was staring and spotted Bobby as he turned and ran out.
“Shit!” Marc swore as he got up to follow after him.

I’m sorry this chapter has taken so long to get out. A spring cold knocked me on my ass for a week. And my job is in major turmoil. A major relocation is in the works and I’ve found it hard to concentrate on writing. The big move is in the next two weeks then the fun part starts of working out all the bugs. I’m so looking forward to May and hopefully everything get back to normal.
I’d like to thank all of you who have written with your support. Michael, Jack, DJ, Rae, Charles, Steve, Greybear, Ed, and Gary thank you so much for your support.
I’m sorry for the cliffhanger. I know making everyone wait so long and I go and end with a cliffhanger. I know I’m bad. ;-)
