Hi there everyone. Life is slowly returning to normal at St Pete Beach. The community grows stronger together each day, and the new refrigerator is in place! Thanks to everyone for your continued notes of support and special wishes.
If you have not done so yet, please get out and vote if you're able to this weekend or next Tuesday. This is a very big election year, and there is so much riding on this election for all of us. The least we can do is perform our civic duty and cast our vote.
I continue to rewrite, add to and write more chapters of this story and I'm seeking any suggestions, constructive or positive feedback you have about the story. Please send information to cjwilson328@aol.com. For those if you who have already reached out to me - my thanks! I'm working your ideas into future storylines.
It's the week before Christmas, and UD is up to no good! Well, he's actually doing something very nice for one of the guys. The Christmas spirit is surrounding CJ's circle of influence, and everyone is ready for the holiday to begin.

After we finished up our morning love making on the chase lounge, Wally and I showered, ate breakfast and eventually finished up our Christmas shopping. We're in good shape and are ready for all of the Christmas festivities to begin.
On the Sunday call with UD, we informed UD that we're expecting around 175 people for the Christmas day festivities, which pleases him immensely. He's looking forward to cooking for everyone, and gave us a list of supplies to get stocked up on before next weekend. His closing comments to us on the call included "guys, if you don't get everything before I arrive, don't worry about it. We'll make this a team effort and enjoy shopping once I get there. I cannot wait to see you both, and enjoy our first Christmas together at St Pete Beach. It's going to be a glorious holiday, full of love and some surprises. Have a good week, and I'll see you both on Wednesday night."
After the call ended with UD, I looked at Wally and said "my uncle is up to something. Did you hear him say some surprises? I don't have any idea of what he has up his sleeve, but he has that look in his eyes which I have seen so many times in my life. I also cannot believe how chipper his mood is knowing the divorce proceedings are moving forward." Wally looked at me puzzled and said "do you think he's planning a surprise for us, or someone else in our group?" I smiled at Wally, gave him a kiss and said "I just don't know sweetheart. Let's be prepared for anything though during his stay."
Sunday was productive for Ronny and Alex as well. Alex went out and finished his shopping while Ronny got energetic and created four home-improvement certificates on the computer, detailing home improvement projects we plan to do for UD. Alex bought four nice cards, along with four gift cards to Home Depot. The four of us signed each certificate, and Ronny is so happy that we have nice condo improvement suggestions for UD and the girls. Ronny also made contact with Seth and sent him the Bailey 2.0 picture. Seth is able to help Ronny out, and he is going to make up 100 cups and 100 tee shirts at a ridiculous cheap price. With a shit-eating grin on his face, Ronny said "Bailey is going to be so shocked to see his picture plastered on cups and shirts all throughout the holiday season."
Alex made contact with Ken Blake to ask him if he has a Christmas tree in storage, and if so, does he mind if we set it up for UD and his girls? Ken does have a Christmas tree, so the four of us set the tree up and decorated it on Sunday night before ending the evening. We placed it in Ken's living room so that it is one of the first things you will focus on upon entering the condo. Once we finished up Alex said "there, I feel better knowing that the Skinner clan will have a Christmas tree when they walk into their future residence. I'll do a cleanup in their place this week, and have it ready for them when they arrive on Wednesday." Wally smiled at him, pulled him in for a hug and said "I'll help you out chief. Let's plan on knocking it out tomorrow since we're both off work."
As we were leaving the condo, Alex's phone rang. He looked at the caller id and said "guys this is a resident calling, so I better take it. Go ahead and I'll be upstairs to join you later." What the three of us did not know is that the caller is actually UD, who is up to no good with Alex planning a good surprise.
Alex answered the call once he shut the door and said "UD, how are you and are you ready to drink plenty of beer with me on Wednesday night?" UD responded with his jovial laugh and said "Alex, I am so ready for that. Make sure we have fresh kegs on every floor my friend! I won't keep you long, but are you free to talk now with no listening ears?" Alex replied "now is fine UD, how is the planning on your end going? I'm all set here at the beach and I want to hear all of the tri-state details happening."
The call went on for fifteen minutes with Alex saying "UD, thank you again for helping me with this. I know once all is said and done, he will be grateful to both of us. I'm so happy this is working out, and I cannot thank you enough for reaching out to me on this with the information you found out. It's going to be a wonderful Christmas for all of us."
Before Alex returned to the condo, I asked Ronny "have you checked on your ring order, and will they be here this week?" Ronny replied "it looks as though they will be here a day or two after Christmas. I've got other gifts planned for Alex, and I'm planning to propose to him on New Year's Eve." Wally joined in and said "I like the idea of New Year's Eve better than Christmas Eve, Ronny. What a better way for you two to begin 2024 together." Ronny smiled and said "I've been thinking the same thing, Wally. It's going to be a special night for both of us. I'm not sure what we're planning around here for our new year celebration, but if you see us disappear, you'll know where we're at guys."
Alex returned shortly and said "well, the rugrat grandchildren are beginning to invade the complex! Mrs. Jones has her family in, and the youngest child is notorious for flushing stuffed animals down the toilet. I was able to snake it out easily, but why do children find the need to torment me with shoving their possessions down a toilet?" The three of us cracked up laughing at him. Ronny got up from his chair and went to Alex wrapping him in his arms. Ronny put his lips to Alex's ear and said "come on chief, I'll take you to bed and make you forget all of your problems." Alex broke out into a smile, and followed his mate into their bedroom.
Wally shut off the tv, took my hand and raised me off the couch. He wrapped me in his arms, and began to smother me with passionate kisses. He broke the kisses and said "let's go in to our bedroom, and I'll get you ready for your last work week of 2023. How does that sound to you babe?" I smiled at my man, gave him another kiss and said "you lead the way my love. I'll never turn you down on a proposition like that."
My work schedule is good for the next two weeks. I'm working with Jennifer this week before Christmas on the morning and noon news shows. I'm off next week and don't return to work until January 2nd. I'll be able to spend quite a bit of quality time with UD and my cousins, which really pleases me. Wally, Alex and Ronny are also off during that time, so all of us can enjoy the holiday season together. Ross is taking off the entire two weeks off, which will give Jennifer quite a few practice sessions serving as the morning news anchor before the new format officially starts.
Monday turned out to be a very quiet day in the news room. Jennifer and I worked well together, and I know she is very happy to get one day of anchoring duties under her belt. I could tell she was nervous on the first show, but as she made her way through the remainder of the shows, her nerves settled down tremendously. She pulled off the noon show very well with a flawless performance. After the show was over, she looked at me and said "thanks for being here with me this week. You could have easily taken this week off, but it's been so reassuring to have you by my side." I cracked up at her and said "no problem whatsoever. It has been great to see you spread your wings today. You, Trev and Mindy are going to make an outstanding morning news team together."
After the Monday shows, Jennifer and I walked out of the news room together and proceeded to our vehicles. She quizzed me on what side dishes we are lacking on, and I informed her of several dishes we need assistance with. Before she got in her car she asked "has Josh talked to you about Christmas day, and inviting additional guests?" I replied "no, he has not but we can accommodate more if needed." She grinned and said "that man of mine is so forgetful. His parents are coming into town for the holiday, and mine are also joining us. Do you mind if we bring them to the Christmas party.?" I smiled at her and said "not at all. We can handle four more and I'm very excited to meet all of them." Jennifer unlocked her car door and said "thanks CJ, you're a gem! I'll see you tomorrow morning."
I made my way back to the condo where I found Wally at the breakfast counter checking emails. I went to him, gave him a kiss and said "hi there babe, it's great to see you. Have you kept the chief under control this morning?" Wally smiled at me and said "yeah CJ, I did. We cleaned Ken's place for your family, then we did a quick clean up in two other residences which are being sublet over the holidays. Go get changed babe, you and I need to talk about something. Don't worry, it's nothing big but my Virgo analytical mind is working in overdrive based on something that happened this morning, along with your comments from yesterday."
I went in and changed into a polo and shorts, then rejoined Wally at the breakfast counter. I poured us both an ice tea and said "okay tell me what you know my love. What is the chief up to, and is UD in on it?" Wally cracked up at me and said "my God, we know each other too well. Yeah, they are up to something, but I don't think it involves us babe."
Wally took a drink of his ice tea, looked at me and said "Alex and I were planning on cleaning Ken's place and one other residence this morning when we first started. I was in Ken's kitchen mopping the floor when Alex's phone began ringing. I noticed the caller ID which said UD. I told Alex his phone was ringing, and he came to answer it. I did not let on that I knew it was UD and Alex went into the master bedroom to finish the call. Once he returned, he told me it was a resident asking for assistance in locating an available condo which can be rented over the holidays." Alex then said "do you mind helping me clean two more condos after this, versus one?" I played along with the chief and said "sure Alex, that is no problem."
Wally took another drink of ice tea and I said "what are those two up to? Last time they planned something, it was our birthday party. We already know there is a Christmas party, but UD is requesting additional condo space? He knows that Denny is staying here in the office so that they can have access to the kegerator and be close to the playroom. Do you think they are scheduling for Jack, Mama B, Zeke or Jer?"
Wally smiled and said "I called Mama B and Zeke thinking the same thing. Zeke and Jer have to get back to Bradenton Beach after the party, and Mama B said she's planning to open the restaurant on Tuesday morning for all of her regulars. I'm stumped and believe that it may be Jack with one condo being for his family, and the other condo being a congregation area for UD, Jack and Denny?"
I took a drink of ice tea, looked puzzled for a few minutes and finally said "I don't think it's Jack, sweetheart. UD would have shared the news with us first and asked us to get with Alex. It's someone else, and UD must be planning to have them attend the party next week." Wally scratched his chin and said "do you think it's your grandparents, or anyone else in your family?" I replied "perhaps. I can call them this week and play dumb. If it is my grandparents, he only needs one condo though as they vacation together often, and only need two bedrooms."
We threw out several more suggestions to each other, and after discussing each one, eliminated all of the additional possibilities off the list. I heard the front door being opened and whispered to Wally "play along with me and we'll get this out of the chief."
Alex came in and I said "afternoon chief. Did you have to rescue any drowned stuffed animals out of toilets today?" Alex cracked up at me and replied "not yet, but the day is still young. Wally and I cleaned up Ken's condo this morning, and he also graciously helped me clean two other units which are being sublet over the holiday. We're going to do a cleanup in here tomorrow, and then begin UD's shopping list on Wednesday. Are you two up to joining me in a beer?"
I winked at Wally and said "well, we were just about to head in for a shower, and then figure out what we're going to do for dinner. Do you want to use one of your shower passes and join us for some fun?" Wally chimed in and said "yeah chief, join us. We have not had a three-way shower in a while. Let's kick this week off with one and make each other feel wonderful on a Monday afternoon."
We didn't have to do any more convincing as Alex was the first one into our bathroom stripping off his clothes. Even though Wally and I were not planning a shower, we both enjoyed our time together with Alex and made him feel good in the process.
By the end of the shower, Alex disclosed the secret to us. We had him feeling so good that I think he would have disclosed top US military secrets, if he had any. We wore him out as he sat down on the shower bench and said "how did you two figure out that UD and I are planning something?" We both smiled at each other, gave each other a kiss and I eventually said "don't mess with two over-analytical Virgo's, Alex. I knew UD was up to something yesterday on our call together." Wally then chimed in and said "I saw your caller ID labeled UD this morning when we were cleaning Ken's apartment. I could not figure out why you did not talk to him in front of me? I remembered CJ saying UD is up to something, and soon we were cleaning two more condos versus one."
Alex cracked up, put his head into his hands and said "so you two seduced me into taking a shower with you in order to work the secret out of me? Very clever you two! Do you have any concerns with what UD found out, and the plan that he and I have come up with?" Wally and I both shook our heads no and I said "in this case Alex, the surprise is going to relieve several people. It's needed, and I hope it benefits all involved in the way you intend it to. You have my support, and I'm sure my faithful life partner is in agreement."
Wally gave a perplexed look and said "no, I'm very upset with everything." Alex developed a horrified look on his face and said "I'm sorry Wally, please know when I heard this news from UD, I truly acted with everyone's best interest in mind before developing our plan." Wally replied "I cannot believe you faked a stuffed animal's death in a toilet last night. I was up all-night worried sick about that poor animal and the child who lost it."
It took Alex a few seconds to realize that Wally is pulling his leg. Wally and I busted out laughing together, and all the chief said is "well played, you hairy ass bear! My congratulations to both of you for cracking the UD / Alex Christmas 2023 surprise. Please though, no one else gets to hear this. Do you think we're right in pulling the surprise on Sunday, versus waiting to the Monday party?"
I smiled at Alex, leaned down to face him and said "yes, it needs to happen on Sunday. I'm sure the parties involved will be thoroughly surprised and there will be deep emotions shared. It's best to have it done on Sunday so that all involved can relax, enjoy themselves and be prepared for the Christmas celebration on Monday."
We all stepped out of the shower and dried off. I said "I don't feel like cooking tonight, and I'm not expecting either one of you to cook. Let's go to Mel's and I'll buy dinner for everyone. Alex, you can share your thoughts on how you want Wally and I to help you out on Sunday over dinner. We'll also buy that hairless beast of yours a dinner to go."
Mel's was not crowded, and we were able to enjoy a table facing the beach. Each of us enjoyed several beers, appetizers and a fish sandwich for dinner. The taco special was not on for tonight, but we agreed to come back on Thursday night for tacos and karaoke. By the end of our dinner, we came up with additions to the plan in order to seal the open ends of it. Alex smiled at both of us and said "I'm not going to inform UD that you two figured out we are planning a surprise. This is our sub-secret, and I'm sorry for hiding it from you two." Wally and I smiled at him and Wally said "don't be sorry chief. I like what you and UD have come up with, and I know everything will work out fine. Just don't ever try to pull anything on the two of us again. We figured out the birthday celebration, and now we have also cracked the UD / Alex Christmas surprise of 2023. CJ and I are an outstanding team together, and when we put our minds to something, we have and always will crack a mystery when it appears in front of us."
Alex placed an order to go for Ronny. As we finished nursing our beers, I asked Alex "have you checked your ring order lately?" He smiled at me and said "checking it twice daily. They are going to come in after Christmas, but that's fine as I have other gifts ready for Ronny for Christmas day. Besides, New Year's Eve will work out better for our proposal." Wally smiled and chimed in with "yeah Alex, that's going to be better for both of you. Ring in the new year with a marriage proposal. Ronny's going to love it, chief!"
Tuesday and Wednesday turned out to be quiet days in the newsroom. I made my way out of the station on Wednesday after the noon show and headed for the condo. As I was pulling in, Alex and Wally were leaving the parking lot in Wally's truck. We rolled our windows down and I asked "is everything okay with you two, and where are you off to?" Alex said "we went grocery shopping this morning and got most of the items on UD's list. The condo board gave me some money to use for decorating the community center. There's a half-off sale on Christmas decorations at several stores, so we're going there to see what we can pick up for next Monday." I said "sounds good. If you give me five minutes, I'll change and come along with you. Can we stop at the deli also for dinner tonight? I ordered several trays so that we don't have a big cooking job tonight." Wally smiled at me and said "go get changed stud. My bestie and I will be waiting for you."
We visited two stores, and made out like bandits on decoration items. Alex has always wanted to decorate the community center, but has never received funds from the condo board. I'm not sure what changed this year, but he's very happy about it, which makes me happy as well. Since everything was half-off, we purchased four Christmas trees, plenty of decorations, garland, wreathes and other items. Alex also found assorted plastic table clothes at a cheap price. He picked up 25 to start and said "if we need more, I'll come back here before the week is out. CJ, Jimmy starts his Christmas vacation tomorrow. He said he will help me decorate, but do you think the girls will help out also for a couple of hours?" I replied "oh yeah, they will help you out. I know they all like decorating. There are enough decorations to keep them busy all tomorrow morning, and Jimmy will be ecstatic having their attention. We better get some tinsel to make him happy decorating the trees."
We loaded the truck up with our purchases and then proceeded to the beer distributor. Wally and I walked in, and there stood Bill at the cash register. He said "hey guys, glad you are here. My boss went ahead and marked down kegs today in advance of the holiday. The specials include Goose Island and several varieties of Sam Adams." Wally looked at me and said "how about two different kinds of Sam Adams?" I smiled at both of them and said "you heard my partner Bill, load us up with two of the Sam Adams sale selections." Bill replied "will do. Hey guys, do you want a keg on Christmas day for the party? Maybe a Goose Island?" Wally and I looked at each other and said "yeah, why not. It's Christmas after all!" Bill smiled and said "okay, I'll bring one over on Monday for the party."
After the kegs were loaded, the final stop was at the deli to pick up the trays I ordered. We also picked up a variety of sandwich buns, and other items that caught our eye. I don't think we could have put one more item in the truck. I'm sure we looked overloaded as we made our way back down Gulf Blvd. As we entered the condo lot, Wally honked his horn. I did not see them at first, but Jimmy, Mack and Darrell were at the elevator. They saw us, and Jimmy came running to the truck like a wild banshee.
Wally shut his engine off and opened his door. Our young friend said "hi guys. We just finished our workout for the day. Wow, what all did you get and can I help unload?" Mack and Darrell eventually made it to the truck and Mack said "afternoon gents. Did you just rob a Christmas supply store?" Alex snickered and said "the condo board gave me money to decorate the community center for Christmas. Jimmy, guess what you and I are doing tomorrow?" Jimmy smiled at Alex and said "that's great Alex. My Christmas vacation starts tomorrow, so I'll be ready at whatever time you want me tomorrow morning. CJ, when do UD and your cousins get here?"
I pulled several sacks out of the truck bed and said "they'll be here around 6:00 pm, Jimmy. I've got dinner ready for everyone including you three, your dad and Toby. Can you all join us, it's nothing special, but I did not want to do any cooking tonight since there will be so much cooking over the next several days." Jimmy said "Dad and Toby went shopping, and I'm going to eat with Mack and Darrell. So, guys, can we have dinner with the gang and welcome UD back to the beach?" Darrell smiled at our youngest group member and said "sure Jimmy, that sounds great. Let's help the guys unload the truck and then we can wash up for dinner. I know I worked up a sweat today on the workout, and I bet you did too?" Jimmy laughed and said "yeah Darrell, my pits stink bad. I need a shower before dinner." I cracked up at my little buddy wondering who he picked up pits from? I wonder what else he will learn from his work out buddies during their future exercise routines? I'm sure that piss, cock and cum will become part of his vocabulary in the near future.
With the extra help, we had the truck unloaded in five minutes. Alex put all of the Christmas decorations in the community center; the kegs were hooked up at Ken's place and the party patio; and we loaded up our refrigerator with all of the party trays for tonight. As Jimmy was helping me put the trays into the refrigerator he said "this all looks fantastic CJ. I'm so glad we're having dinner together tonight, and I can't wait to challenge UD in a game of darts!"
Everyone showered up, changed clothes and got back to our place to wait for the arrival of UD and the girls. At 4:30, UD texted me and said "everything is going well. We landed early and are getting the car now. We should be there between 5:45 and 6:00, and we'll head directly to your place." I told Jimmy "Be on the lookout for a SUV before 6:00 tonight, Jimmy. Let me know when you see one pull in." Jimmy said "okay CJ, I'll start looking for them in about an hour."
My faithful early warning system did not let us down as he announced "they're here everyone". All of us went down to the parking lot to meet them. UD and the girls were getting their luggage out of the back end of the SUV, and I soon heard "hi everyone, I'm glad you're all here. My Christmas vacation starts tomorrow and we're going to help Alex decorate the community center for the party on Monday." UD leaned down to Jimmy and said "hi there Jimmy. You've grown since the last time I saw you." Jimmy smiled at UD and said "thanks UD. I've been weight lifting with Mack and Darrell also. Feel how strong my muscles are UD."
Everyone commenced in a round of hugs and kisses. I started with my cousins, and eventually made my way to UD. I gave him a hug, looked him in the face and said "it's so good to have you here UD. I hope you're ready for two weeks of our bull sessions and plenty of love to go around." He pulled me in for another hug and said "I know it's only been a few weeks since we saw you in November, but I have missed you CJ. I cannot wait until I'm here permanently with you and all of your friends. I love you so much CJ, and thank you for being my rock and sounding board the last three months." I smiled at him and replied "I'm always here for you UD, and I can't wait either to see you daily, face to face. Until then, Merry Christmas and let's get this holiday started!"
We took the luggage to Ken's place and left UD and the girls freshen up. Once they were finished, they all came up to our place for dinner. Alex, Jimmy and I had everything ready to go on the patio. Darrell left Fred a message saying we were at the party patio when they return, and word spread through the complex that the Skinner's are in town. As the original group was eating dinner, Aaron and Bailey showed up, quickly followed by Carl and Trev. Bailey cracked me up the most as he pulled UD out of his chair and said "you old geezer! It's great to see you, and I can't wait to kick your ass in darts. We have a new pinball game at Mack's which I know you and I can trash talk over." UD just smiled at him and said "it's so good to see you, Bailey. Bring it on you old fart as I'm ready to kick your ass in all the games we play over the holiday."
Everyone has greeted my family with such love and affection. It makes me feel very good to see everyone surrounding the Skinner's with so much warmth, compassion and caring. This crew of mine is something else, and I'm so excited to meet the family members joining the group celebration over this holiday.
Wednesday evening came to a close early, as I don't believe too many people wanted to wear themselves out too early. Well, too many is probably a relative term as I found UD, Alex and Wally entering the living room at 2:15 am, as I fixed myself a cup of coffee to go on Thursday morning. UD said "sorry CJ, I kept your man up with Alex and myself for a late-night bull session. I was not ready to turn in, and these two fine gentlemen agreed to keep me company. Okay guys, let's get some sleep, and be ready for breakfast at 8:00 this morning." UD came over to me, gave me a hug and kiss and said "you have a good morning, CJ, and be ready to finish that grocery shopping list with me this afternoon. I love you and I'll see you this afternoon."
UD left for Ken's place, or shall I call it his future residence. I looked at his two cohorts and said "thanks guys for keeping UD company, but you do know if you keep this pace up, you two will be worn out before new years even arrives?" Alex smirked and said "I know CJ, but your uncle is infectious and I cannot get enough of him." Wally came over to me, gave me a kiss and hug and said "don't worry about me babe, I'll be fine. I have good news for you later today. Go enjoy your day, and get back to us as early as you can." Both of them walked me to the door, gave me a hug and Alex said "we'll see you later CJ. Just think, you have two more days of this morning schedule, then you'll switch to nights with Ronny. I bet you're happy about that?" I grinned at both of them and replied "yeah, I am so excited for the evening shift change. You two please get some sleep, and I'll be back early this afternoon."
My work day went by quickly and I raced back to the condo to join in on the festivities. Wally was waiting for me at the breakfast bar, and pulled me in for a hug and kiss. He whispered in my ear, "UD came clean with me last night about the surprise. I believe he's going to tell you everything when you two go shopping this afternoon. It's all good baby." I smiled at Wally and said "so much drama and secrecy when he ends up sharing it with us before the surprise even begins! He has got to stop this drama when he becomes a permanent resident here." Wally looked deep into my eyes and replied "let UD be UD. He has his reasons, and it's going to be a joy having him and the girls here on a permanent basis."
I went into the bedroom, and changed into shorts and a tee shirt. As I was changing, I heard the decorating crew come in with the chief and his assistant chief leading the way. I made my way back to the breakfast bar and Jimmy blurted out "CJ, you missed all of the fun! The community center looks great and is overloaded with decorations." He walked over to me and said "guess what -- the Christmas trees even have lots of tinsel on them! Everything looks pretty, and we're all going to have a nice day on Monday."
UD spoke up and said "okay kids, go ahead and eat up all the left overs from last night. After you eat, go down and play at the pool. Wally and Alex, take a nap so you don't fall asleep on us tonight. CJ, are you ready to go shopping with me?" I cracked up and replied "yes General UD, I am ready! Let's go finish off that list of yours." UD busted out laughing at me and said "come on smart ass, let's get moving."
Luckily, the store was not too busy. We each took a shopping cart, just in case we needed two. We went to the meat department first, and UD loaded up on all of the meats on his list. As we weaved our way through the aisles, UD unloaded his surprise on me. There were no gaps in the story, and it matched Alex's version perfectly. He finished up the story just before we checked out. Before the cashier rang us out, he said "think about what I've shared with you and let me know how you feel about everything once we get loaded up in the jeep."
I did not have to think about the surprise too much since Alex had already disclosed it to Wally and myself. I do not want to disclose to UD that I already heard about it through Alex. As we finished loading the groceries into the jeep, UD said "well son, do you support this surprise, or should I reconsider for some reason. I can still call everything off."
UD and I got into the jeep. I started the engine, looked at UD and said "I fully support your surprise UD. I cannot believe how you received the information and I'm so happy that you shared it with Alex. This surprise needs to happen UD for reasons that you will learn next week. How can I help you pull this surprise off?" UD smiled at me and said "you already have CJ. I thought you may have a dark hidden reason of why I should not go ahead with this. I need your help to keep people occupied on Saturday night and Sunday morning until I get everyone in place."
UD and I got all of the groceries into the condo. We loaded up our refrigerator along with several others in the complex. Once we finished up, he and I went to the pool until we needed to leave for tacos, beer and karaoke at Mel's.
We got to Mel's early as we anticipated a large crowd tonight in advance of the Christmas holiday. It did turn out to be a large crowd, and our group was ready for a night of good food, lots of laughs and plenty of singing. Everyone in our group had been to Mel's before, with the exception of Scott and his two dads, Eddie and Taylor. It was too funny to listen to Jimmy as he introduced them to everything at Mel's. Eddie and Taylor joined us in devouring the shrimp and grouper tacos. Jimmy and Scott were the only two at the table who feasted on cheeseburgers and onion rings. At the end of dinner, everyone was full, satisfied and ready to belt out some tunes.
As always, everyone in our group participated in karaoke. Everyone made it on stage once, but due to the crowd size, not all of our song selections made it into the contest. I was shocked when I heard Eddie and Taylor perform an incredible version of "Dancing in the Street" by Mick Jagger and the legendary David Bowie. I honestly did not believe the two of them could belt out such a powerful performance. They received a standing ovation from the crowd and made their way back to the table. I caught Eddie before he sat down and said "okay, are you two professional karaoke singers?" Eddie cracked up at me and said "karaoke is how Taylor and I met. We love to go out and perform, but our schedules don't always allow us to do it, CJ." I smiled and said "Mel has a show every Thursday night here. There is always someone from our group here. When you can make it, please stop in and join us." Eddie replied "thanks CJ, we will definitely make it out again. I forgot how much fun the two of us have when we karaoke together."
Scott and Jimmy were pleased for Eddie and Taylor, but had it in their minds they were not going to be outdone tonight. A few songs later, Scott, Jimmy and my cousins were called up to perform "Shake it off" by Taylor. What a bunch of Swifties! They had the moves down, and our eight-year-old ham stole the show with his killer vocals. All of the kids received a standing ovation, and it was hard to get Scott and Jimmy offstage as their excitement was overwhelming tonight.
I was pleased to see Darrell make it up on stage to sing an uplifting version of "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. Darrell really got into the song as he sang, danced and clapped along to the beat of the song. The crowd enjoyed his version of the song, as the clapping spread throughout the audience just like the musical video. Everyone stood up cheering and clapping for Darrell once he finished. As he got to the table, all of our circle members present gave him a hug and whispered special messages to him. Once he reached me, I pulled him in for a hug and said "I'm so glad you sang that song my friend. I hope it is truly how you are feeling now?" Darrell smiled at me and said "it is CJ. Each day brings me more happiness in my life, and I decided to share it all with you tonight."
There was one song which perplexed me, and yet I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. UD was called up to sing a version of "Daylight" by David Kushner. His performance was fantastic as it sounded so much like the original lyrics from Kushner. The crowd went nuts with another standing ovation after his performance was finished. I leaned into Laura and said "has he been practicing, and when did he start listening to this song?" She said "every time it comes on the radio, he turns the volume up. He likes it very much, but I'm not sure why CJ." Here I go again -- what a dark song for UD to be singing before the holidays. I wonder if he's okay, or there is something he needs to unload on me? I calmed down and said to myself "shut the Virgo trait down CJ. If he needs to tell you something, he's going to over the holidays."
Mel took the stage and informed the crowd that it is time for the closing singer tonight. Mel did call my name, and I took the stage to perform a new song that the group and my man have not heard me sing before. The music kicked in and the crowd quickly recognized the musical notes as I began to sing the lyrics to "Heaven" by Niall Horan.
About halfway through the song, I noticed that I had most of the crowd singing along with me. When I finished up, the crowd did one more standing ovation for me, and I took my bow before leaving the stage.
When I got back to the table, Wally leaned into me and whispered "absolutely beautiful my love. I want that song played at our wedding." I smiled at him and said "sounds great babe. Every time I hear the song, I think of you and I enjoying our special times together. I even thought about having the acoustic version of the song being played as you and I make our way down the aisle."
Mel is definitely in the Christmas spirit as he got back on stage and said "the judges think that tonight's show has been the best all year. Therefore, we have decided to present ten winners with $100 prizes tonight. Please come on up when I call your name, and stay up here until I've finished announcing all the winners." I couldn't believe that five of the winners came from our table. I'm glad that half the winners were from other tables, as I believe several conspiracy theories would have developed if our table had taken any more prizes tonight. Eddie and Taylor were called up first; the Swiftie's were called up with Jimmy and his posse all celebrating together; Darrell's name was called as his song played in the background until he reached the stage; UD received his third prize for the year and my name was called out as the last winner of the evening. After I accepted my prize from Mel, I stepped back with the other winners and gave UD a big hug before we left the stage. Jimmy saw this, and went to Darrell to give him a hug. Darrell picked Jimmy up and said "thank you Jimmy, I appreciate everything you do for me and I'm so glad I have you as a friend in my life. You make me happy Jimmy!"
As per our usual tradition, we took the winnings and paid off our bill for the night along with a nice tip to the servers. There was still $200 to use for happy hour on Friday. Darrell spoke up and said "I'll take care of happy hour tomorrow everyone. Mack is off shift and Jimmy will help us out. How does that sound to you Jimmy?" Jimmy smiled at Darrell and said "sure Darrell, I'll help you and Mack out. Cheeseburgers for everyone tomorrow!"
Friday and Saturday turned out to be very nice days for everyone. The work week concluded for Ronny and myself; Darrell, Mack and Jimmy provided quite the spread for everyone at Friday's happy hour; Denny made it to the complex on Saturday morning which UD was very happy about; and smaller groups formed to finish up Christmas shopping, wrapping presents and start cooking for the Christmas celebration on Monday. UD, Alex and Denny slipped away late Saturday afternoon saying they had to do some last-minute shopping. I knew where they were going, and I hope everything runs smoothly for them as UD begins his surprise preparations.
On Saturday afternoon, I noticed Ronny is just not himself. I told Wally "My muskie friend needs a pep talk. Do you care if I get him out of the complex for a while to see if I can cheer him up?" Wally smiled at me and said "not at all CJ. It's probably a good idea to get him out of here for a while just in case anything goes wrong with the surprise preparations tonight."
I found Ronny reading emails on the patio. I said "okay, you're giving me no choice -- you can either come with me and re-enact our annual Christmas vacation departing ritual from Maumee, or I'll be forced to just sit here and bug you with heavy breathing and sighs. What's it going to be Clark Kent?" He smiled at me and said "let's go re-enact our annual Christmas departure from Maumee. How do you know I need a CJ pick me up today?" I smiled at him and said "I've learned your peaks and valleys over the last four plus years. You're in a down mood today, and I'm here to get you out of it. Let's go have some beers, wings and watch some sports." Ronny cracked a smile and said "that sounds great CJ."
I grabbed my keys and the two of us loaded up in my jeep. I took us to a local sports bar which we have not visited. The crowd was not too large, and we had a nice selection of high-top tables all facing a wall of television monitors to choose from. As we sat down, the server approached us and said "good afternoon, guys. What's your pleasure this afternoon? We've got several drafts at happy hour prices this afternoon, and all of our appetizers and wings are half off until 5:00 today."
Ronny placed his order first for a tall draft beer with a dozen medium wings. I said to the server "double that order please, and bring us two shots of Jagermeister when you get a chance." Ronny grinned and said "two shots -- you are re-enacting our departure from Maumee before holiday vacations. Do you have Wally on speed dial in case we need him to come and pick us up?" I snickered at Ronny and replied "nope, but Jimmy told me he'd pick us up if we need him to." Ronny and I both busted out laughing on that comment along with Ronny giving me a fist bump.
The server returned with our shots, beers and an order of home-made chips for us. He said "the chips are on the house today. It's our house specialty. If you two want anymore, just let me know. I'll have your wings out soon to you."
Ronny and I clanked our shots together and downed them. I'm not sure whose reaction was worse to the strong liquor. Ronny looked at me and said "tell me again why we torture ourselves with these?" I cracked up and said "remember, these are the tension breakers for when one of us is uptight about something. Is it helping you yet?" He cracked up at me and said "it's that obvious today?" I replied "you look fine to most people Ronny, but I know you too well. What's up and how can I help you out?"
The server returned with our wings and asked if we needed anything else at this time? I replied "I think we are good for a while, but we might do another round of shots and beers later." After the server left, we began to eat our wings. I have to admit, the sauce is much better than the wings we get from the pizza place. Ronny said "wow, these wings are meaty also. We've got to remember this place for future nights out." I smiled and replied "let's make this our place when you and I need to escape from the spouses for a while."
Ronny ate a couple of wings, and took several drinks of his beer. He looked at me and said "thanks CJ. You do know me too well. I'm fine, but just feeling down today about Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited that it's the first Christmas for Alex and me to be together. I'm also happy that we're going to be surrounded by our St Pete family. This will be my first Christmas away from mom and dad. I'm missing them CJ, and I'm missing all of the special holiday traditions we do at the farm. I'm also kicking myself in the ass for not coming out to them yet. Hell, if I was able to make it home for Christmas, I can't take Alex as they don't know about us yet."
I drank the rest of my beer, and showed the empty glass with two fingers up on my other hand to the server. He acknowledged me and came to get our empty glasses. I then put my hand on top of Ronny's hand and said "dude, we have been on one hell of a roller coaster ride for the last six months. Between our hectic schedules, all of our new adventures, our promotions and you not seeing your family for six months I am surprised you are not more upset than you seem to be. I feel bad that I've been able to keep in contact with UD and the personal visits. It kills me that between your dad's farm schedule, and your sports schedule covering the Buccaneers, you have not seen them. Are you going to visit them soon?"
Our server returned with two fresh beers and said "just flag me down guys if you need anything else." Ronny took a drink of his beer and said "yes, I'm taking ten days off at the end of January to return to the farm. I'm banking on the Buccaneers to get knocked out of the playoffs and not make it to the super bowl. If they do make it, I know I'll have to move my vacation to cover their run to the bowl. Mom did get dad cable television and internet hooked up at the farm for one of his Christmas presents. They want me to help them set up wi-fi and show them how to stream WPHS when I am home. I'm excited that they're finally getting internet, and I bought them each a laptop for their use at the farm. This is one way I know our communications will be improved in 2024."
Our server passed by our table and I said "will you bring us two more shots when you can?" He replied "I'll be right back with those for you." Ronny just looked at me and said "are you trying to drown my sorrows tonight and take advantage of me?" I cracked up at him and said "nope, but I want you to have one more shot to relax even more for me."
The shots came, and we downed them quickly. I took a drink of my beer to cleanse my palate and said "okay, Ronny let's flip the calendar and say that today is the end of January right now. Are you ready to tell your mom and dad that you're gay, and that you plan to marry Alex in the near future?" He looked deep into my eyes and said "yes CJ, I am ready as I want to share how happy I am with them. I also want them to know I'm healthy and have found the person who I am meant to spend the rest of my life with. I want them to know how Alex and I feel about each other, and most of all I want to tell them how important that they are to both of us and how we want them in our lives moving forward."
I put my hands on top of Ronny's hands and said "congratulations my friend. I see the truth in your eyes, and I know you are ready to have this weight lifted off you. When you helped me through my coming out with UD, you told me not to worry as you knew UD will be receptive to Wally and myself. I'm here now telling you the same thing. I know down deep that your parents will be receptive of you and Alex. From what you have shared with me about your high school days, I find it hard to believe that your parents don't already know your sexual preference, Ronny. You're going to make it through this, and they will make it through with you and Alex also."
Sunday morning rolled around, and UD was up at the crack of dawn to execute his plan to surprise Ronny. He got Alex, Wally and myself in position for the morning while he prepared homemade cinnamon rolls for Ronny and the surprises that await him. Ronny rolled out of bed before 7:00 am only to find UD in the kitchen. He sat down at the breakfast counter and said "morning UD. Where is everyone at?" UD smiled at him, handed him a cup of coffee and said "well your handsome boyfriend has a pipe leak he's fixing on the second floor. Wally is helping him out, and CJ took off to the store for me as I need some more groceries for today. I'm finishing my famous cinnamon rolls for all of us to enjoy. How about you and I go out to the patio and enjoy one while they're hot along with our coffee?" Ronny took a drink of his coffee and said "oh thanks UD, the coffee hits the spot this morning. I should have never left CJ talk me into shots last night." UD laughed at him and said "come on out with me and we'll get some fresh morning air."
UD led the way to the patio with the rolls, a carafe of coffee and his chipper attitude. It took Ronny a few minutes to navigate his way there, but as he cleared the doorway, he was shocked when he saw his mom and dad sitting at the patio table. He took a double take and said "mom, dad, are you really here, or am I dreaming about all the special Christmas celebrations at the farm?" Both of his parents stood up and approached him. His mom gave him a hug and multiple kisses before saying "we're here son. It's just not Christmas without us being together." Ronny's dad then took over with the hugs and kisses before saying "it's so good to see you, Ronny. Since you have the playoffs coming up, we decided to come to you and celebrate Christmas with you if you'll let us?" Ronny looked at both of them, broke up in tears and pulled them each into himself for a group hug. He then said "of course I want you both here for Christmas. I can't believe you are here. How did this happen, and who's taking care of the animals at home?"
As Ronny and his parents continued their reunion, UD busied himself serving the fresh rolls on to individual plates and filling up their coffee cups. He went over to Ronny and said "Merry Christmas son. Enjoy the time with your parents, and when you three are ready for a big mid-western breakfast, call me and I will whip it up for all of us. Until then, enjoy the rolls and your time together. I know you three have so much to talk about."
UD left our condo, and came down to his future place. Wally, Alex and I were waiting for him in the living room. UD walked in with a big smile on his face and said "mission accomplished everyone. Part one of my surprise is complete and going well. I'll wait for their call, and then I'll get breakfast cooked up for everyone." Alex got up off the couch, approached UD and pulled him in for a hug. He gave UD a big kiss and said "thank you so much for making this happen UD. I know that at the end of the day today, he will be relieved for having everything in the open." UD just smirked, gave his usual deep chuckle and said "it was nothing guys. I can't believe that Elinor and Roger reached out to me about Ronny. Once again, that man upstairs is watching out for all of us, most especially the four of you. Who want's a coffee with Baileys this morning?" All of us joined in a group hug as we each extended more thank you comments to UD.
A knock at the door interrupted our group hug. UD went to the door and answered it. There they were, Clint and Sam, Ronny's two friends from high school. I had not seen both of them for several years. UD said "come on in guys, we're going to have a cup off coffee. Will you join us in one?" Both of them nodded yes to UD and made their way to the three of us for hugs all around. UD got everyone settled in the living room with coffee and pleasant conversation. As he sat down, he said "I'm going to enjoy entertaining in my new place. Guys, did you sleep well last night, and how did the rental condo work out for you?"
Clint spoke up first and said "everything is great Dean. We're excited to see Ronny, and hope that everything is going well between him and his parents." Sam jumped into the conversation and said "I still feel like such a fool when I outed Ronny to his parents in November. Do you think he will ever forgive me Dean?" Before UD answered, I spoke up and said "Ronny will be fine guys. He's been ready to talk about his sexuality to his parents for a while now. I know that man does not hold a grudge against anyone. Sam, don't be concerned. I'm so glad that UD was able to work with all four of you, and make this trip happen." UD sat quietly on the couch, and finally said "this has been a blessing for me everyone. I focused on helping others versus drowning in my own sadness. I cannot tell you how good I feel about this reunion, and I know there will be plenty of love shared between all of you later today."
Around 9:30 am, there was another knock at the door. UD spoke up and said "well, just call me the welcome wagon of St Pete Beach!" Everyone cracked up at him as he opened the door. Ronny and his parents were there and Ronny pulled UD in for a kiss and hug. He spoke into UD's ear and said "thank you UD for making this happen. I feel much better now, and I know I have the love and support of my parents." UD broke the hug and said "come on in everyone. Ronny, part two of your surprise is sitting on the couch."
Ronny scanned the room, and noticed two figures who had not turned their heads to him yet. He recognized them, and went running to face them, yelling "Clint, Sam how did you two make it here? It's so good to see you both." They both stood up and another group hug ensued between the three of them. Before Ronny could say another word. Sam looked straight into his face and said "I'm so sorry Ronny for blabbing out your most deepest feelings to your parents. Will you forgive me?" Ronny pulled Sam in for another hug and replied "no apologies needed Sam. It's something I should have addressed with them sooner than this."
Roger and Elinor made their way to Alex. Elinor gave him a big hug along with a kiss and said "we support and accept you and Ronny being together. You have our blessing, and I expect to see you with him at his January visit to the farm. Please take care of him, and promise me that you will never hurt him in anyway?"
Roger then pulled Alex into him and said "I echo all of the same feelings that Elinor just shared with you. You're part of our family now Alex. While we're shocked with everything that happened in the last two months, we're also pleased to know that our son is happy, healthy and in love with the person who he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Please take care of him, as I know he will take care of you. Be rest assured though, if I ever find out you hurt him in anyway, I will be back to beat the shit out of you. He's our miracle child, and it's time to entrust his care to you."
I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. I noticed the three girls had gathered at the entrance to the guest wing of the condo. Laura got some tissues for everyone, which were passed around to all. Alex put his hands on Roger and Elinor's shoulders and said "you have my word that I will never hurt Ronny in anyway. He is everything to me, and I love him dearly. I am so thankful for your blessing of us, and I'm deliriously happy knowing I will never be alone in this lifetime again."
Ronny went to Alex and pulled him in for a hug and kiss. I'm not sure who was shedding more tears at this point between Wally and myself. UD finally broke the room atmosphere by saying "now this is my idea of a wonderful holiday! Merry Christmas everyone, and let's get that big breakfast started. Roger and Elinor, this is my future residence as I'll be purchasing it for my girls and myself early next year. I'll give everyone a tour later, but for now let's head back up to the guy's place on the fourth floor for that huge mid-western breakfast I've been promising all of you. Girls, come on up and help me start the fixings for everyone."
Everyone filed out of UD's place. He locked the door, and I grabbed him for one more hug. I looked into his eyes and said "Merry Christmas you softie! I love you UD, and you've done a wonderful thing for Ronny. Next time though you pull something off like this, will you include me more?"
UD gave his standard hearty chuckle and said "we'll see son. I feel alive again, and ready to get back into helping anyone I can out. Here's to our first Christmas in St Pete Beach together CJ! Let's get breakfast started, and enjoy the holiday together with all of our family and friends."
Little did I know that this is the first of so many surprises UD will be pulling off for my circle of influence over the next several years. It's been a beautiful day, and I can't wait for the Christmas celebration tomorrow. I'm in the festive mood, and I want to go out later this morning to get some gifts for Roger, Elinor, Clint and Sam. The sun is shining, and the long-range forecast looks wonderful for all of us ahead.
