I am pulling out from the gravel road from work and I am smiling and can't wait to get back to work. I have Travis Tritt playing on the cd player/radio in my pickup and I am singing rather loudly to Travis Tritt and his song "A Great Day to be Alive. "
I have a beautiful lady at home and she wasn't born female but she is beautiful none the less. The amazing part she still loves me to this day 15 years later after we met she was still in college in her sophomore year at the University of Wyoming in Laramie,Wyoming.
I still have the same job I had 15 years ago which is repairing farm equipment and she still thinks I am the biggest stud in the world.
Well I guess it is time for me tell you how we met.
It was the summer of 85 and I had been out of high school for about 4 years and a friend his name was Mike Anderson. Just got out of tech school a year before and just got done repairing some tractors and barley combines.
Mike decided we should head down to Laramie and we were at a lounge called Mingles and what a sight we were. We were in faded and slightly stained Wranglers and broken in Resistol hats and boots that have seen better days.
We were laughing and talking when this beautiful lady came up to me.
She asked," My name is Amanda do you mind if I sit with you every spot is taken."
I said," Wow a beautiful lady such as yourself asking if you can sit with me. My answer is an unhesitant yes."
She flashed a hypnotic smile and said," Thank you."
I said," My name is John and that crazy son-of-a-gun I am with is Mike."
She asked," Are you from Laramie?"
I said," No we are from Cody. I have no idea why we came down this far but now I am glad we did."
She blushed and smiled and said," Well I am glad you came."
A cocktail waitress came and she ordered a glass of wine and Mike and I ordered Budweisers.
She said," What do you do John?"
I said," I repair tractors it isn't glamorous but it is a fairly good living."
She said," Oooo I am impressed."
I said," Thanks."
We talked and laughed til closing time and before we left she wrote her number on a napkin. As we walked out she gave me her number and I borrowed a pen and a small scrap of paper and I wrote my number and gave it to her.
We said bye and Mike and I went to the truck.
After we climbed in and Mike started the truck and he chuckled.
I said," What are you laughing about?"
He said," You are one lucky son-of-a-bitch."
I said," What you mean by that?"
He said," You got that sexy lady.'
I said," You are wrong she probably will forget me by next week."
He said," I bet she won't."
I said," OK I will pay you $50 if she doesn't."
As we rode I wondered if she would remember me the next week.
As it turned out I can happily say I lost that $50 bet.
It took us 2 1/2 hours to get back to Cody and thank goodness we didn't have to work for the next 2 days because it was 4:30 am by the time he got to my front door.
I stumbled out of the cab of the truck and went to the front door of the small house I was renting and unlocked the door.
I went in and closed the door and went into my bedroom and stripped down to my under wear and crawled into bed and within 5 minutes I fell fast asleep.
