The Series

Chapter 1:

It's ironic how the Universe works. Just when I least expected. When I have stopped trying to find Mr. Right and just go with the flow, it turned around and provided me with a chance encounter that would forever change my life. Hi, my name is Michael, and this is my story:

It started out as a typical, ordinary Monday that soon turned into an extraordinary day! As usual, I got out of bed around 8AM. After taking care of my morning toiletry stuff, I spent about 20 minutes doing my yoga stretches to get my blood flowing. After a light breakfast of OJ and a banana, I hopped on my bike and headed for my 9 o'clock philosophy class. The lecture wasn't too bad today I thought as I stepped out of the lecture hall. Since I have some time to kill before my next class, I decided to grab a light brunch at this new sandwich shop a few blocks away. After a brief bike ride, I arrived at what looks like a newly revamped sandwich joint with all the modern and trendy decor of a Starbuck that would undoubtedly attract today hip college student population.

As I entered the sandwich shop, I was greeted with a smile by the cute cashier behind the counter. "Hi, what can I get you?" he asked beamingly.

"Aha...what's good here?" I asked, besides you I thought to myself. God, I love college! No where in the world can one find more great-looking bodies walking around in their prime than in a college town. There seems to be a hottie around every corner at my university. The challenge is figuring out if they're gay or not, a skill which I have yet to master. I don't think my gaydar is working properly because I have the hardest time picking out gay people, especially those who are straight acting like myself. God, if only it came with a manual!

"Well, I just had a garden bagel burger earlier, and I'm still standing," he replied jokingly. "So I would recommend going with that!" He flashed a sexy grin at me.

I smiled noddingly and placed my order. "Ok, I'll have the garden bagel burger and a ...," I paused as I scanned their power drink selection, "and the cranberry protein shake drink with ginseng."

"Ok, that'll be $6.95," he exclaimed as he turned around to grab my cranberry drink and garden burger. I noticed that he paused to write something on my burger.

I handed him my money as he placed my orders on a plastic tray and slid it towards me with a coquettish smile.

As he dug into the cash register for my change, I looked at my burger and saw that he has written his name and phone number on the paper wrapper of my burger.

"Thanks!" I said with a big smile as he handed me my change.

"My pleasure!" He winked at me and smiled flirtatiously. "Don't be a stranger now!"

I smiled as I picked up my tray and proceeded to turn around. And just as I did, a guy backed into me, causing my cranberry drink to spill all over my white Structure's shirt.

"What the fuck...!" I started to cuss as I looked down at my dampen shirt.

"Oh, shit!" the guy exclaimed as he turned around and saw the red stain on my white shirt. "I'm so sorry, dude!" he exclaimed apologetically. "I didn't..."

Just as I was about to give him a proper cussing, our eyes met. We both stopped in mid sentence, speechless, as we looked into each other's eyes. He was stunning. I was awe struck by his beautiful, angular face with these deep, sky blue eyes and dark brown hairs and a pair of lips to die for. Our eyes locked for what seems like an eternity before he broke the silence and started to apologize profusely.

"Oh, I am so sorry, man! I didn't see you!"

I snapped out of my trance. "Ah...it's okay," I replied, trying to play it cool as I straighten out my drink and assessed the damage. Yup, my white Structure's shirt looks like it's going to be history.

"I'm really sorry, dude," he continued to apologize earnestly. "Please let me buy you another drink," he pleaded.

"Ahm., okay," I stammered as my heart pounded madly at this point. Of course you can buy me a drink I thought.

The cute guy behind the counter saw what happened and rushed out with a mop. He gave the other guy a dirty look as he mopped up the spill.

"What kind of drink was that?" he asked me.

"It was a cranberry protein shake with ginseng." I replied as I set my tray down at a nearby table and reached for some napkins to blotch my wet shirt.

"Ok, I'll be right back," he declared.

"Alright, I'm going to make a quick dash to the men's room and clean up a little."

While I was in the men's room doing my best to salvage my shirt and drying myself up, he was busy ordering my drink. Frankly, my mind wasn't really on the cranberry stain on my shirt. Instead, I was concentrating on composing myself before going out there. After drying my shirt the best that I could, I headed out the men's room to find him sitting at the table where I sat my tray with my drink in his hand.

He quickly got up as I approached the table and extend his hand to shake my hand as he formally introduced himself. "Hi, I'm Chance!" He smiled sheepishly. Damn, he got a great smile! "I'm sorry again for what happened. Oh...here's your drink," he exclaimed as he handed me the drink.

"Ahmm...I'm Michael!" I finally replied, setting the drink on the tray and sat down. He followed suit. "It's ok. It's not the end of the world. I can always get another shirt." I tried to reassured him.

"Nevertheless, I'm sorry." he said sincerely. "I'll be glad to pay for your dry cleaning bill or even replace the shirt for you," he offered as he wrote down his name and number on a napkin and handed to me.

"No, it's ok... I..!" I started to refuse. But then I thought to myself, what the fuck was I doing, refusing this cute guy's offer, especially when it gives me a reason to get his phone number.

"No, I insist!" he retorted.

"Alright," I accepted cooly.

Then we just stood there and stared at each other for a couple of seconds, not knowing what to say next when he again broke the awkward silence. "Well, I aha...better get out of your hairs and leave you to your brunch," he said as he slowly got up.

"Uhm...were you going to get something to eat," I quickly injected, hoping that he would join me.

"Oh, yeah!" he quickly replied with a big smile on his face. "I totally spaced out about that!"

"Well, you're welcome to join me if you like considering there's no empty tables left," I said matter-of-factly while trying to conceal my excitement.

"Ah, sure!" He immediately accepted. "Let me place my order, and I'll be right back."

"Ok, I'll be here!" I said in my best nonchalant tone as I felt my heart racing.

A few minutes later, he came back with his food and smiled at me as he sat down at my table.

"So, do you go to school here?" I asked as I unwrapped my garden burger and proceeded to bit into it.

"Yeah, this is my third year here! And you?"

"Yeah, same here!" "What are you studying?"

"I'm majoring in Studio Art with a minor in modern, theatrical Dance," he replied as he dug his fork into his chicken salad.

"Wow, that's cool!" I exclaimed.

"Thanks. Maybe you can tell my parents that," he said with a half smile. "What about you, what are you studying?"

"I'm majoring in Creative Writing with a minor in Eastern Philosophy," I said, while staring intensely at him, trying to remember where I have seen him before because he actually looked familiar.

"That's great!" he quickly exclaimed as he smiled beamingly at me.

"Then, maybe I can have you tell my parents that!" I replied, returning the joke.

He smiled. And so we stood there again staring at each other, speechless, smiling sheepishly at one another. He finally broke the stare and looked down at his salad.

Sensing the awkwardness of the moment, I quickly injected, "Sorry, I didn't mean to stare. It's just that you looked so familiar." He actually did. Then it finally dawned on me where I have seen him before. "Where you in a dance production recently?" I asked excitingly.

"Aha...yeah! I was in the Tapestry of Dances recently at school."

"That's right, I knew you saw you somewhere!" I exclaimed enthusiastically. "You looked so different with clothes on!" At that moment, I just wanted to stick my foot in my mouth as I horrifically realized what have just escaped from my lips.

Chance immediately blushed and lightly coughed on his salad as he reached for his drink and smiled shyly at me.

"I'm sorry dude!" I immediately retorted, trying to repair the damage. "I didn't mean to embarrass you."

"It's okay."

I smiled and added, "What I meant to say was that you were phenomenal in it. You were really good!"

"Thanks!" Chance replied appreciatively and smiled.

"The girls much be all over you behind stage," I inquired stealthily, hoping that his reply would give me a hint as to his sexual preference.

"Well...some..." Chance replied sheepishly and quickly added, "but..ahh...I really don't have much use for them." He smiled flirtatiously at me and looked searchingly into my eyes for my reaction.

My eyes widen as I smiled back at him, staring into his deep, sky blue eyes.

"Well, I can see that you have your shares of admirers too," Chance said, pointing to the writing on my burger wrapper and smiled at me.

I immediately blushed and smiled embarrassingly as I attempted to crumble up the wrapper. He quickly placed his hand on my hand and looked into my eyes. "It's ok, Michael, I'm cool with that, especially when I'm in the same boat!" Chance said as he flashed me a sexy smile.

My eyes widen a bit more as I grinned with delight, relieved that we have something very important in common. With the cat out of the bag, we both became a bit more relaxed as we chatted some more and got to know each other as we ate our food. We chatted for about half an hour when I glanced at my watch and realized that I better get going.

"Well, Chance, it was nice bumping into you," I said as I got up, "but I needed to get to my next class."

"Ah, okay," Chance replied with a half smile. "Please call me and let me about your cleaning bill, and I'll be glad to reimburse you."

"Sure, you bet!" I replied as I held out my hand to shake his hand. "I'll talk to you later."

"Ok, have a good one!" He waved good-bye as I exited the shop and hopped on my bike.

I had about 15 minutes to get back to class so I didn't really have time to bike home and change my shirt. But at that point, I didn't really care. I have just met a great guy and all I can think about was his cute smile and those deep sky blue eyes while biking back to campus. It's going to be tough focusing on lecture after that encounter! But I managed to stay focus during lecture and happy to walk away with some understanding of the lecture material.

Just as I bent down to unlock my bike U-lock, someone came behind and kissed me on my left cheek.

"Hey, handsome!" I heard the sweet familiar voice of my best friend, Stacy, greeting me..

"Oh, hi Stace!" I turned around and gave her a kiss.

"Oh, nice stain!" Stacy said as she smiled and pointed to the maroon stain on my shirt. "Did we forget to do our laundry this weekend?" she asked playfully.

"Well, not exactly!" I replied with a big grin.

"Huhm... I know that look!" Stacy said as she furrowed her eyebrows curiously.

"What look?" I asked innocently.

"Oh, my God!" Stacy exclaimed excitedly. "You met someone didn't you?

The girl is a freakin' psychic. She always seems to know when something is up, especially when I have just met someone I really like.

"I don't know what you're talking about!" I acted all innocently, doing my best to prolong her agony.

Yes, you did!" She answered her own question. "Who is it Michael? You must tell. I want to know all the details!"

"Must I?" I replied nonchalantly, playing on her curiosity.

"Pleassee!" Stacy pleaded. "I tell you what, how about you tell me all about it over lunch. My treat!"

"Well, how can say no to a free lunch," I replied with a big smile.

"Great, let me grab my bike," she said as turned around and walked towards her bike. We were soon on our way.

"So where are we going for lunch?" I asked as we bike towards downtown.

"Where ever you want!"

"It doesn't matter to me. You pick!"

"Ok, how about Togo's," Stacy suggested.

"Sounds good!"

Fifteen minute later, we arrived at Togo's and locked up our bikes at one of the bike racks and went inside. The place was pretty crowded as usually so I suggested that she go ahead and place our orders while I go find us a table. Luckily, a couple in the far corner has just finished eating and was leaving. I quickly grabbed the table for us. Stacy showed up with our foods and drinks a few minutes later.

"So how's your day so far?" I asked as I unwrapped my grill chicken sandwich.

"Pretty good, I managed to stay awake today in class. But enough about me. I want to know about your new boy toy!" she asked playfully.

"He's NOT my boy toy!" I replied, a bit surprise by my own defensiveness.

"Sorry, Michael. I didn't mean to offend you. You know I was just kidding," she said apologetically. "You must really like this guy to get so defensive."

"Yeah, I guess," I said, blushing a bit as I thought of Chance.

"So enough with the suspense! What's his name and where did you meet him and what does he look like?" Stacy asked as she bites into her sandwich.

"His name is Chance, and I met him this morning at Mr. Bagel, you know, that new sandwich place!"

Stacy nodded as she looked intensely at me with curiosity, pleading for more information.

"And he is amazing, Stace! He's about 6'1" with a stunning, angular face with dark brown hair and these incredible, deep, sky blue eyes and a pair of delectable lips," I sighed as recalled his face. "We bumped into each other literally and thus, the stain on my shirt!"

"I see!" Stacy finally spoke as she grabbed for her coke. "Does he go to school here?"

"Yeah! He's a Studio Art major with a minor in Modern Dance," I replied as I recalled his body. "And he has this incredible dancer's physique beautifully defined, toned and proportionate. Just right, not grossly muscle-bound."

I could never really understand why some guys feel the needs to spend endless hours in the gym, overworking certain body muscles. They only ended up looking like some dopey, unproportionate, muscle-bounded hulk. It's totally ridiculous and so unnecessary!

"So did you get his number?" Stacy asked curiously.

"Yeah, he felt really badly about spilling my drink all over my shirt and offered to replace it. Frankly, I don't cared about getting my shirt replaced, but only wanting to get to know him better!"

"So you'll going to call him right?"

"Yeah, I think I'll do that tomorrow," I replied smiling at her.

"Well, I'm so happy for you Michael!" Stacy exclaimed excitedly as she reached over and gave me a peck on the cheek.

"Thanks! So how are you and Brian doing?"

"Oh, shit!" Stacy exclaimed, nearly jumping out of her seat. "I totally forgot. I was supposed to meet Brian at the Student Union at noon and it's almost one," she said alarmingly as she glanced at her watch. "Sorry, I can't stay longer. I'll talk to you later."

Stacy quickly finished her sandwich and gave me a kiss good-bye and raced off on her bike. I soon finished eating and was on my way home myself.

Chapter 2 (Chance's Apartment)

Chance entered his apartment to find his roommate, Dade, spread out on the living room couch, watching reruns of Northern Exposure as he munched on some potato chips. Dade's well-sculpted, swimmer's built, lengthy frame of 6'3" easily draped the couch with finesse. He is truly a heavenly sight to behold with dark brown, almost black, hair that drapes over his classically handsome, striking face with a pairs of warm brown eyes and perfect, sensual lips.

"Hey, Chance!" Dade greeted his roommate with a smile. "How's it going, dude?"

"Great!" Chance grinned beamingly and announced, "I just met a cute guy, or rather, bumped into him at Mr. Bagel this morning." Chance quickly made himself comfortable as dropped his backpack to the floor, kicked off his shoes, took off his sweaty tee-shirt, grabbed a cold drink from the fridge and plopped himself comfortably in the armchair across from Dade.

"Leave it to you to make a great first impression!" Dade said sarcastically as he smiled at Chance. "Well, don't keep me in suspense! Give me the details?" Dade asked eagerly as he sat up attentively and turned down the TV volume.

"Well, his name is Michael. And he's awesome, Dade! He stood about an inch taller than me with a nicely defined and toned body. He had this sharp, beautiful angelic face with ocean green eyes, deep brown hair, and soft, luscious lips." Chance sighed as he recalled their encounter earlier.

"Wow, sounds like a hottie!" Dade smiled at dreamy Chance. "Makes me want to check him out myself!"

"Don't even think about, Dade!" Chance protested playfully. "Hands off buddy, I saw him first. You get casanova ass in line, mister!"

Dade laughed as he turned up the TV volume again.

"Alright, but only because I know you haven't got laid for a while!" Dade grinned wickedly as he continued, "And I know that poor hands of yours could use a break!" Dade bursted out in hysterical laughter.

"You, bastard!" Chance laughed as he playfully threw a couch pillow at Dade who quickly dodged it as he rolled over in laughter.

"So did you get his number?" Dade asked curiously.

"Oh, fuck!" Chance exclaimed. "I totally forgot about it, but I did give him my number."

Dade quickly reached over and playfully smacked the back of Chance's head.

"Ouch!" Chance exclaimed irritatingly as he rubbed the back of his head.

"Chance, will you ever learn; that's the first think that you got to do!"

"Thank you, Dr. Ruth!" Chance said mockingly. "But it's hard to remember that when your stomach is in knots."

"I know," Dade replied with a devilish smile and quickly added without skipping a sarcastic beat, "well, let's just hope that he likes your ugly ass enough to call you back!"

Chance smiled as he threw another pillow at Dade and this time, hit Dade's beautiful, grinning face.

Chapter 3

Since our encounter yesterday, I can't seem to get Chance out of my mind. Already, I feel like I'm falling head over heels for a guy I hardly even know, a guy who I have just only met and spoken to for less than an hour. Yet, I feel this strong, almost indescribable, physical and spiritual connection with him. It's crazy! I hate it when I'm like this, when I feel like I'm out of control, lost in another person. I never had it this bad before! I have had a few minor crushes over the years, but nothing to this intense degree. I have never felt so strongly attracted to another guy as I felt now for Chance! Everything in my being is telling me that he may be the one!

I decided to call him after I got home from my afternoon class. I dug into my backpack pocket and pulled out the napkin with his phone number on it. I proceeded to dial his number. One ring. Two rings. Three rings. God, I hope he's there I thought to myself as I heard the fourth ring. And just as I was about to hang up, someone answered the phone.

"Hello!" A manly voice answered.

"Ah, Hi!" I stammered. "Is this Chance?" I asked nervously. My freakin' hands were sweating. God, it's crazy what love does to a person. I took a deep breath and composed myself.

"Yeah, this is he."

"Hi, Chance, this is Michael!" I said calmly. "I'm the guy that you bumped into at Mr. Bagel and spilled..."

Chance quickly interrupted me, "Yes of course Michael, how can I forget! I hope that you were able to get the stain out."

"Well, that's partly why I'm calling. Uhm...the dry cleaner wasn't able to get the stain out, and I guess the shirt needs to be replaced! I was lying through my teeth. I'm only calling because I wanted to see him again.

"Well, I will gladly replace it for you!" Chance replied with a bit more excitement than I expected. He quickly suggested, "Would you like to meet me at the mall downtown tomorrow at around 6PM, we can grab a bite at Joe's Pizzeria and go shopping for that shirt of yours afterward?"

"Ahm..."I paused, completely surprise by his suggestion.

"I really want to make it up to you for yesterday," Chance immediately added.

"Yeah, that would be cool!" I replied cooly, trying desperately to hold back my excitement.

"Ok, great! I'll see you at six at Joe's at the mall tomorrow then," he cheerfully confirmed our rendezvous.

"Ok, I'll see you then! Bye!"

"YES!!!!" I shouted at the top of my lung after hanging up the phone. It's amazing the things we get so excited about!

The next 24 hours seem to stretch forever as tomorrow slowly rolled around. Two hours before our rendezvous, I was rummaging through my closet to find the perfect shirt and pants. As I tried on the 3rd outfit combination, I suddenly bursted out in laughter as I realized how bizarre I was acting. Here I was acting all lovey-dubey, getting all worked up over meeting some guy. It's crazy! Let's take this nice and slow. Let's not go over board over this and get ahead of ourselves I thought as I calm myself down. So with about an hour and half left before our rendezvous, I decided to try to get some reading done before leaving for the mall. And with a bit of effort, I succeeded in getting a couples of chapter read before heading out. I have redeemed myself I thought as I got into my car and happily drove towards the mall.

It took about half an hour to get to the mall. Traffic was a bit busier than normal. Fuck, I'm going to be late! By the time, I pulled into the mall parking lot it was about 15 after. Fuck! I hate people who are late, and here I was late myself! I quickly rushed to Joe's Pizzeria inside the mall. When I got there, I saw Chance sitting at one of the tables in the far corner. He flashed his amazingly, sexy smile and waved me over when he saw me standing at the entrance. He quickly stood up to shake my hand.

"Hi, sorry I'm late!" I said sincerely as I smiled at him. "Hope you didn't wait too long."

"Not at all!" Chance quickly assured me. "I just got here myself."

"Good!" I sighed in relief. Now I don't feel so badly.

"Well, I'm glad that you made it!" Chance said while displaying his pearly whites again. Damn, I love his smile!

"Yeah, glad to be here." I smiled back.

"Shall we order!" Chance suggested as he scanned the menu.

"Sure!" I replied as I skimmed through the pizza topping selection. "You want to share a large?"

"Yeah, sounds good! Any preference?"

"How about the barbecue chicken-veggie combo!" I suggested.

"Sounds good!"

The waitress came and took our orders. Fifteen minutes later our pizza arrived, piping hot. We quickly dug into it and chatted up a storm as we eat. It was so easy talking to him. Our conversation seems to flow effortlessly as we get to know each other. Sometimes, I find myself just staring at his soft, sensual lips, watching them move, mesmerized by them, and not listening to what he was saying. He must have noticed because he paused a couple of times to make eye contact. We both would just smiled at each others and continued on with our conversation.

I found out that he is from out of state. His home is in Hawaii, and he came to California to attend the University. Both of his parents still lived there, and he is an only child. He now lived with a roommate named Dade who he met during his junior year in high school and quickly became best friends. We talked a bit more about our interests, families, majors and why we went into them and how both of our parents aren't exactly thrilled with our choices of studies. The more I got to know him, the more I liked him, the more I feel connected to him spiritually. And all the while that we were talking, my stomach churned with butterflies as I seem to be intoxicated by his charismatic presence. Boy, I'm falling badly for this guy. Somebody, help me LOL! We both were lost in our conversation when the mall's PA system announced that the mall will be closing in half an hour.

"Michael, we better get going before the mall closes so I can replace your shirt," Chance suggested alarmingly.

"That's ok, Chance. I don't really care about my shirt. To be honest, I ah.....used it as an excuse to see you again!" I confessed embarrassingly as I looked into his eyes for his reaction.

He simply smiled and said, "So did I. Listen Michael, I want to be totally honest with you. I really like you, and I really enjoy your company. And I hope that we can see each other again unless you are attached to someone already!" He looked deeply into my eyes, anxiously awaiting my reaction.

"No, I'm not involved with anyone right now, and I kinda feel the same way too!" I assured him with a smile. "Let's do this right. Let's go on a date!" I quickly suggested.

"Yeah, I would like that! Are you free this Friday?"

"Yeah. How about dinner and a movie?" I suggested. I know what you're think----it's not the most original dating plan, but hey, this is the fuckin' first date. It doesn't have to be fancy! Besides, I'm a simple guy!

"Yeah, sounds like a plan!" Chance eagerly agreed. "What movie were you thinking of?"

"How about 'American Beauty?' I've been wanting to see it!"

"Yeah, me too! I heard that it's excellent."

"Great, then it's a date. I'll call you on Thursday with the details," I said excitedly.

"Sounds good!" Chance replied cheerfully. "Ok, we better get to Structure."

"Chance, really it's ok. I don't need to get the shirt replace. It's not a big deal. I can always get another one," I suggested.

"You're right, and I'm going to replace it for you right now. Now come on, please!" He insisted and flashed me another of his sexy smile, and I just couldn't said no.

So we quickly paid the bill and left a generous tip on the table and rushed to Structure before it closes. We were in and out in about 5 minutes as I grabbed the exact white cotton shirt. Afterwards, we said our good-byes and went on our separate ways.

The following evening I called Chance to discuss our date plan. We quickly agreed to catch an early evening show at 6PM and grab a bite to eat afterwards. I also suggested that it would be best that I come and pick him up since the theater is closer to his apartment. And so it was set, my first official date with Chance! I was filled with anticipation and excitement as I hung up the phone and imagined what our first date would be like and how it would turn out!
