Chapter 64
JW looked around the engine bays and then reached down to grab his phone out of his pocket. JW cursed at himself after looking at the time and could not believe that it was only 2:00pm. Other than a false alarm at a local business, coming back to the station and cleaning everything and then doing a few hours of training, JW was bored out of his mind and looked around the station for something else to do. The fact of the matter was there was nothing else he could find to occupy his time. JW ultimately settled for grabbing a magazine and sitting down at the table in front of Shane's office and started to read an article on industrial fire fighting.
JW never saw Josh walk up and sit down, Josh was a little older than him but was on the rescue crew and JW never had worked with him before. Josh sat down, "Hey Lieutenant."
JW looked up surprised, "Oh hello!" JW pulled his feet to the floor and closed the magazine, "What's up?"
Josh looked over his shoulders and leaned into JW, "I have a question?"
JW raised and eyebrow and was shocked someone would come to him. JW asked, "What is it?"
Josh looked to make sure the path was clear, "Well I came to you because we kind of have the same history I guess. I just don't know anyone else to talk too about this! My family is useless and my friends don't really understand what is going on." JW raised an eyebrow and was scared to death of what Josh was going to ask.
JW folded his hands on the table, sat up tall and looked Josh in the eyes, "Ok! What's up?"
Josh sighed and looked down at the table, "Well I am going through a divorce with my wife right now and I don't know what to do."
JW sighed in relief and laughed, "Man did you ever come to the right person. If you don't mind let me tell you what exactly happened and let you me tell you what mistakes I made?"
Josh nodded his head, grabbed a piece of paper and started writing down everything JW said. JW even gave Josh Nick's name and told him to expect a call from Nick soon. Forty minutes later Josh stood up to take Nick's phone call. JW leaned back in his chair and ran his hands through his hair.
Shane walked up behind him and asked, "What was that about?"
JW jumped because he did not know Shane was there, "Oh! Um! I don't know if I can tell you?"
Shane sat down next to JW, "Well was it fire house related?"
JW shook his head, "No personal."
Shane stared at JW and JW just shrugged, "It's personal and that's all I am going to say at this time."
Shane nodded his head and slapped JW on the shoulder, "Fucking finding your oats nowÉabout god damn time." JW just shook his head and Shane stood up to walk away. Josh was walking back and looked worried at JW when he sat down.
JW smiled, "I didn't tell him anything and won't tell him anything unless two things happen. One, you ask me to tell The Captain or if I think I need to tell the Captain."
Josh nodded his head and then quizzically asked, "Should I tell him?"
JW thought about it for a second, "Honestly? Yes, because if I would have told my superiors what was going on then everyone would not have thought I was an axe murder for so long!"
Josh laughed and shook his head, "Well if that's the case!"
JW offered, "I can tell him the very basic details so that way the Captain is in the loop, but only if you want me to?"
Josh nodded his head and stood up, "Ya, I would appreciate that if you don't mind." Before Josh left JW gave him his personal cell phone number and told him to call him any time he needed help.
When Josh walked away JW called Nick and knew she was going to be pissed. Nick bitched at JW for ten minutes before JW could get a word in and finally settled on offering, "Look I understand you are not going to make any money on Josh and I know I have nothing to offer you in return but I will be in your debt and owe you a huge favor."
The phone went silent and JW listened to Nick start to laugh on the other end of the phone. Nick finally offered, "You do realize that's a bad position to be in right? And you still want to owe me a favor?"
JW laughed, "Yes I am willing to make that sacrifice just to have you talk to him."
Nick paused, "Really? I mean I am not doing it for free like I did for you but there is no way he could normally afford my services."
JW interrupted, "And I am will to do what ever I need to cover the rest."
Nick laughed hard, "I am getting me some fat cock soon enough then. This guy Josh has nothing to worry about now and I will take his case on." Nick hung up the phone before JW could say he would not have sex. JW frowned and pushed his phone into his pocket.
JW walked into Shane's office and gave him an update on Josh. Shane just nodded his head, "God call and even better advice. And yes you should have told me what was going on long before you ever did because it was obvious you were stressed and I was noticing something was going on with Josh weeks ago. You guys don't think people notice when something serious is going on but it's obvious the second you come into the station."
JW just nodded his head wanting to just change the subject. Thankfully JW's phone dinged from a text message and Shane told JW to check his phone. JW pulled it up and it was a text message from Marcus, "You seriously do not want to owe Nick. She will collect!" JW started blushing and laughed.
JW looked up to Shane and tried hard to put on a straight face; Shane just turned and shook his head, "Marcus?"
JW said, "Ya, I will turn my phone off. Sorry about that."
Shane turned to JW, "No worries. How are Marcus and your kids?"
JW smiled and told Shane about what happened last night with the other parents at Leah's soccer practice. Shane listened to JW's story but one thing really did piss him off and Shane felt that he had to say something, "Well I am glad Marcus told you to just be yourself. Do you mind if I am ultra critical for a moment?"
JW nodded his head and Shane took a deep breath, "What the fuck is wrong with you? I mean you seriously have so much going in your favor right now after such a long and shitty haul. You're more self-conscious than a menstruating runner up prom queen."
JW slumped his shoulders and looked at the ground and Shane walked over and patted JW's shoulder, "That is exactly what I am talking about. Fuck what people think and what they say. There is nothing wrong with you. In fact you're a perfect in every aspect except that big dumb brain of yours can't accept the fact that you are perfect."
JW shrugged and sighed and looked up to Shane, "That's the problem! I don't know what to do or say."
Shane laughed, "I wouldn't worry about that if I was you. Just be you and stop worrying about everyone else. There are only five people on this planet that you have to explain yourself to."
JW raised an eyebrow, "Marcus, my kids and who is the fifth?"
Shane laughed, "Me." JW rolled his eyes and nodded his head. Shane offered for JW to sit down and Shane walked around his desk, "Now let's get onto something a lot more important." Shane reached down and pulled a large square piece of cardboard out of his desk and tossed it at JW, "This is last years calendar if you did not see it and I wanted to tell you about a few changes they are going to do."
JW reached for the calendar and did not know what to expect. JW thumbed through the months and looked up to Shane, "So what's the change because these are all group photos of different stations."
Shane turned bright red, "We are going focus on one person from each station. but you know that already. The change is going to be you are going to do two different photos. The first will be of you working with a tool on a mock scene. This photo will be used in a calendar for kids or anyone that wants to see working firefighters!" Shane paused and started to smile.
JW asked, "The second?"
Shane smiled, "You will be wearing your bunker pants and boots and possibly a helmet."
JW stupidly asked, "Will I be shirtless?"
Shane smiled, "Of course. The idea is to sell extra calendars to all the ladies out there who have wet dreams about firefighters!"
JW just started to laugh and shook his head, "What ever. Marcus has talked me up on this and I am actually kind of excited about it now."
Shane smile, "I will get you a date soon enough. Just hope you stay excited and if you don't mind. I am going to ask another personal question real quick?"
JW nodded his head, "Sure go ahead."
Shane leaned in a whispered, "Have you been working out a lot? Because you have always been in fantastic shape but the last few months! Well you're either on drugs or you're working your ass off in the gym?"
JW blushed, "I stick the needle under my toe nails so I don't leave any marks."
Shane looked to JW and laughed, "Look at you, you found a sense of humor also!"
Marcus had to pawn the kids off this afternoon to their grandparents Pete and Barbra. Marcus had been on calling clients most of the day and was busy working on a new portfolio. Marcus phone started to ring while he was reading over a stack of paperwork and he glanced at it. Marcus wondered what Nick wanted and let the call go to voice mail. A few minutes later Marcus picked up the phone and listened to the message.
Marcus started laughing and could only imagine what kinky sex act Nick was planning for JW. Marcus knew Nick would never force JW into anything but she was more than willing to try and talk him into a threesome. Marcus drifted from his work and started to think about the first time he met Nick and how much he hated her. Ultimately Nick became one of Marcus closest friends and did have sex with her numerous times. As much as Marcus loved Nick he was never attracted to Nick for anything more than a friend. Marcus laughed and talked out loud to himself and looked up to the ceiling, "The sex was pretty good though for a woman." Marcus reached for his phone and decided to antagonize JW a little and send JW a text message and then sent a text to Nick telling her to pour the heat on JW.
JW walked upstairs to the small gym they had in the station and changed into his work out shorts. JW tossed his phone and shirt off to the side and started the first few steps of his ten-mile run. Several other firefighters had joined JW over the past few months in the gym and while JW ran they would hit the weights. JW's phone dinged every few minutes from a text message and JW didn't want to stop running; but his phone was starting to become annoying.
JW called out to Sean who was by his phone, "Sean do you mind telling me who is texting me?"
Sean walked over and grabbed JW's phone and started laughing hard, "God damn she is fine. Who the hell is this?"
JW looked over his shoulder at Sean, "What's the name?"
Sean shook his head, "Nicky?"
JW started laughing when his phone dinged again with another text message, JW said, "Just put it on silence and I will get back to her."
Sean glanced down at the phone and jumped, "Holy fuck dude who is this chick?"
JW frowned, "What?"
Sean started to show the phone to the other three guys in the room and they started to laugh and look at JW. Finally Sean said, "You sure you are gay? Because I am starting to doubt that!"
JW was having a hard time running and looking off to his side when he asked, "What the fuck are you guys talking about?" Sean walked over holding the phone up for JW to see the screen.
JW tripped and almost fell off the treadmill; breathing heavy from running JW snatched the phone out of Sean's hand. JW angrily sighed, "What the hell is she doing?... Oh my god she just sent a picture of her!"
JW was already red in the face from running but the embarrassment swept over JW cursed and Sean snatched the phone out of JW's hands, "Let me see this girl some more before you delete that shit." JW started shaking his head and went to grab the phone. Sean jerked back and went running across the small room and tossed it to another firefighter.
Sean started laughing, "Not so gay now are you."
JW started laughing and threw his hands at the floor, "Fuck it! You can look all you want. I have another three miles to finish." JW stepped up onto the treadmill and started running again.
JW shook his head as he laughed at the comments made and reached down to stop the treadmill as he crossed the tenth mile. JW stepped down and grabbed a towel and started to wipe off his face, arms and chest. Sean was still with the small group of guys looking over his phone when JW said, "When you're done É give me my phone back." JW turned and walked out to head down to the shower.
JW showered quickly and walked outside into the engine bays to eat the lunch that he packed. JW was sitting down when Sean walked up and sat down with the other guys from up stairs. Sean handed JW his phone and JW started laughing, "I am not having sex with her. She did me a big favor a few months back and she is just teasing me." Sean nodded his head and sat down with the other guys at the table with JW.
After several hours a large group had gathered with JW at the table and they had been talking and joking back and forth. Several times JW was asked to show the photos Nick had texted to him, JW just shrugged and handed the phone over. Everyone had the same reaction except Shane who just scowled at JW and made a professionalism comment. After that JW deleted the photos to everyone's objections and JW felt like a jackass apologizing for showing inappropriate content and even went as far as saying, "If you find this disturbing please tell the Captain and he will take the appropriate actions."
Mack laughed, "Stop being a tool and doing your job so well. I will just notify my union rep that I was forced by my Lieutenant to look at a hot naked woman and I liked it!" JW frowned and everyone else laughed.
JW sat quietly while everyone else talked, joked and laughed. JW caught himself wishing things would keep going this well when he was brought back to reality when the station tones went off for a structure fire.
