CHAPTER 8
We got up the next morning and started on the work outside again. It all went pretty smoothly. I also had a talk with Joey and let him know that my private life is none of his business. He apologized and said he didn't realize that me and Robbie were that close. I just told him not to let it happen again.
Later that evening I called gunny again.
Hello.
Jim it's Jay.
Hey how you doing.
Not bad been working on a path for this fence all weekend.
You hear anything from the ads.
Yeah I got four guys interested so far.
That's good. Any interesting ones.
As a matter of fact yes. Have you ever heard of an air force para-rescue-jumper?
Yeah I've heard of them.
How would one fit in here?
Better than a seal, most of the time that is. They are more trained for rescue and a medic than any assault type of thing. They are trained the same as seals. And if I was alone on an island in danger I would want one of them instead of a seal. Their good all-around guys.
So they're good.
Yeah they are.
Ok I'm going to start setting up a meet between us and these guys. You, me, and Robbie will interview them.
Why Robbie?
Well that's a little touchy right now. I want some guys he is comfortable around. You know not too sexy.
You gays are always worried about what the next guy looks like. I'm going to be blunt. Most of these guys will be young and as you say hot. Don't count one out because you or him think they might get taken away from the bedroom. You're hiring security people not sex slaves.
Yeah you are right. That's why I want you there too.
Ok set it up and let me know when.
Give me a few days and I'll call you.
Ok bye.
Bye.
Gunny did have a good point. They will be here to protect us. Not be bed partners. But if a few were to hop into bed with us that would be ok too.
The next morning the phone rang and it was Bill from the car dealership.
Mr. Johnson. I have your trucks here for you and ready.
Good Bill that was quick. Any word on the suburban's?
Yeah I had a fax on my desk this morning when I came in. They are at the customizing shop, but it will take a month or so to get them done.
Ok I knew it wasn't going to be fast. How bad is the price.
You sitting down?
Yeah.
The base vehicle is 35,000 with the options it brought the cars to 43,000 each. The modifications are right at 20,000 each.
Ok that's acceptable. I knew it wouldn't be cheap. How about the trucks.
With the business you are doing here why don't I discount them and say 55,000 for both trucks.
Dam Bill I know that's a deal.
Hell Jay you broke my sales quota this month.
Ok we'll be down this afternoon to pick them up.
Ok see you then.
Bye.
Robbie where you at.
Right here.
You want to go for a ride this afternoon?
Where to.
Into town to pick up a couple new trucks.
Is one for me?
Hey I already gave you a jeep. How about I let you drive it when you want.
Ok I guess I could do that, he said with a grin.
Besides we may not be here to drive them much.
Why is that.
You like to travel?
Yeah.
I have some other things coming too.
Like what.
Oh just a couple big trucks.
Really?
Yes. One will be ready this week, but we will have to bring it up here to do a few things to it before we can use it.
You going to take me with you.
Yeah you can go pick it up with me.
No I mean traveling.
Oh I was thinking about taking one or two of these hot security guys I'll be hiring soon.
You don't take me, you don't get any more of this. He reached down and lewdly grabbed himself.
Well in that case you talked me into it you can go too.
He came over and pinned me against the wall and started kissing me.
You don't know how much I want to see the country.
I know you do. Just be patient there is a lot of things that need to be done here first.
Ring, ring, ring.
Hello.
Mr. Johnson.
Yes.
This is Roger from Kenworth of Tampa we have your truck and trailer done and ready for you to pick up.
Ok how late will you be in.
The sales department is open until 7
Ok I'll be down later this afternoon. What happened to Bill.
He's on vacation this week sir. He left orders to call you as soon as everything was finished.
Ok I'll see you this afternoon then. Bye.
Bye.
Who was that.
The Kenworth dealer. One of my trucks and trailers are ready.
Do I get to drive it too.
NO! at least not until I teach you how. Besides this is too much truck for you to handle.
Well I do get to ride in it don't I.
Of course. Now let's see which one of these officers wants to go running around all afternoon.
We got one of the officers to drive us to the car dealer in my Tahoe. When we got there we went straight to the owner's office.
Hey Bill.
Come on in Jay. Is this young man Robbie?
Yes it is.
Nice to see both of you. I have all the paper work right here. This is so much easier when people pay cash.
Yeah I hate singing a bunch of paperwork.
Ok I need you to sign here and here and here. One is the bill of sale, the other two are the applications for the titles.
I signed all the papers.
Oh Jay I almost forgot.
What's that.
You realize that CAT diesel won't get the mileage that the Cummins does in the dodge truck.
Yeah I heard that.
Ok I just wanted to make sure.
How much do I owe you this time.
With tax and title and tag it all comes to 59,600.00
Ok. I wrote him a check and he took us out to our new trucks.
We got out there and Robbie say's.
WOW which one is mine.
Oh I guess I'll let you drive the 1/2 ton.
We went to it first and Bill showed Robbie how to work everything and where the controls were.
Robbie I want you to take it easy with this truck until you get used to it. It has 3 times the power your jeep does and is about half again longer.
Ok I will Jay.
But remember it's only yours to drive, it still belongs to me.
Alright if you say so.
I say so.
Bill said Jay yours is right over here.
We went over and looked.
Damn nice truck Bill. I see the hitches are already in and I like the interior.
And here sir are your keys. Just remember to put diesel fuel in it.
Bill I'm a truck driver remember.
Ok. But I tell everyone that. You wouldn't believe the people who buy a diesel and forget and fill the dam thing with gas.
I bet. Bill we will see you later we need to take these home and then go to Tampa and spend a little bit more money.
Ok see you later.
We headed home with me in the lead then Robbie and the officer following him. I wanted to make sure Robbie didn't get carried away.
When we got home I told the guys to park in the yard because the next truck would take up a lot of space. And Robbie I need your driver's license for a few minutes.
Where do you want me to put them all dad?
Park them all but the Tahoe over by the dozer.
Ok.
I went in to call my insurance company and get these two trucks covered. And to add Robbie to my insurance. I also told them I would be calling back in a couple hours to add another truck and trailer.
I got to thinking I need to Incorporate to protect myself and make buying things a little easier. So I called my attorney.
Good Afternoon, Richardson, Gomez, and Harris.
Is Jim Richardson in?
Yes he is can I tell him who is calling.
Jay Johnson.
Just a moment Mr. Johnson.
Jim answered the phone.
Good afternoon Jay, I hope you're not in trouble again.
No Jim I just need some legal work done.
What do you need and I'll get started on it.
Well first I need to incorporate.
That should be easy. And what else.
I need to file and get USDOT authority to haul equipment as a common carrier. And also need IFTA authority.
Jay I can handle the articles of incorporation, but the other stuff I have no idea what you are talking about.
I laughed. It's trucking industry related Jim.
Oh ok I know someone I can call to handle that. What is the name you want to use to incorporate.
How about Johnson Incorporated.
That should go in pretty easy. I'll get started on all of this and give you a call in a few days.
Ok thanks Jim.
Anything else just call me.
Alright I will. Talk to you in a few days. Bye.
Bye.
While I was talking to Jim I heard the other line ring so I waited incase it was another applicant. Sure enough in a minute or two the phone rang.
Hello Johnson incorporated.
I'm calling about the ad in the navy times.
Ok. What branch are you in.
I got out of the marines last month.
What did you do in there.
Force recon.
Ok. Your age.
23
I went through all the things I told the other guys and asked him if it sounded like something he would like to do.
Yes it sounds very interesting.
What is your name.
Thomas Henderson, Tommy.
Ok Tommy I am setting up a meeting in the next week to interview guys like yourself. Will you be able to come to Tampa in a week. All expenses paid.
Yes sir that will be no problem. I live in Sarasota at the moment.
Oh that's good you're close then.
Yes I will just ride my motorcycle up there.
Ok let me get your SSN and a phone number. And I will contact you when the interview is scheduled.
Great.
I got his number and SSN and we said good bye.
I went back outside and we headed to Tampa. When we got there I told the officer this will take a little while and if he wanted to grab some lunch to go ahead but be back in about an hour. He said ok and left us there.
Let's go spend some more money babe.
How much is this going to cost Jay?
Around 150,000
I didn't know those trucks cost that much.
We're getting a trailer too.
Ok.
We went in and found Roger and went to his office and sat down.
Mr. Johnson have you ever bought a class 8 truck before.
No but I already know it's worse than buying a house.
It's not that bad. Oh I see there is nothing about financing here.
No there wouldn't be, I'm paying cash
Oh great that is easier.
Hrmm. This paperwork is for two trucks and a trailer.
Yes it is. The other truck is getting a custom sleeper installed.
And I see you made a $100,000 deposit.
That's right.
Ok here is the bill of sale for the trailer. And this is the bill of sale for this truck. I need both of those signed.
And here is the application for titles. One for each. Sign those.
Ok now this is the Federal Highway Heavy Use Tax form for the truck. And I need a check for 600.00 made out to them. We have to send that in ourselves now.
Ok. I made out the check for that.
Now here are the temporary registration applications for the truck and trailer, they need to be signed also.
This is a lot of paperwork to buy something. Robbie said.
The salesman said. Son there is a lot of regulations on this stuff.
How do you want to split up the deposit Mr. Johnson.
Why don't I pay for all of it now and get it over with. The other truck is already at the sleeper manufacturer.
Ok we can do that. Let me get the paper work on it also.
Jay why two trucks.
Well Robbie one is for work, the other is for play.
Oh?
You'll see in a month or so when we pick the other one up in Indiana.
Wow! Road trip.
I laughed. Yeah a little road trip.
Roger came back and said.
I had the secretary make up a bill of sale to cover all the vehicles on one form to keep the accounting correct.
Ok, I might as well sign that one now.
I see there isn't a heavy use tax form for the second one.
No it will be licensed as a motor home.
Oh ok. Let's see for the total. And this includes transportation costs.
The complete truck $95,263.00 The cab and chassis $80,125.00 And the trailer $63,975.00 For a total of $239,363.00 And 8% sales tax $19,149.04 For a total of $258,512.04 Minus the deposit $100,000.00 The grand total of $158,512.04
Oh and here is the application for title for the cab and chassis also. Might as well get that taken care of too.
Ok and here is the check.
Mr. Johnson I need to call the bank to verify this.
Ok here's the number.
The look on his face was priceless when he talked to the bank manager.
Oh I see you're used to writing checks this size.
Yes here lately I have been.
Ok the hard part is done lets go outside and get your truck and trailer.
He put all the copies of my paperwork in a folder and gave it to me.
Robbie would you hold onto all of this.
Sure dad.
We went outside and found the truck. Damn it looked good too. And all the chrome and polished aluminum was shining in the sun. Robbie took one look and said.
Wow dad is that ours.
Yeah buddy it is.
That's hot.
Just wait till you see inside, the salesman said.
Robbie got inside and started looking.
This looks like an airplane in here. Wow there's a bed and fridge and all that kind of stuff. And the seats bounce.
Yeah Robbie they're air ride.
I got in and looked everything over and then fired it up. And tuned the radio station in that I wanted and cranked it up.
Dad! This sounds great.
Robbie don't touch anything but the stereo I need to look at something outside.
Ok.
I got out and made sure nothing was leaking and the airlines and trailer light cord was out of the way as well as the hydraulic lines for the trailer.
I like it I told the salesman.
Good that's what we like to hear. Your trailer is on the other side of the building. We've made sure everything is working and greased everything so it is ready to work.
Let's go hook up to it.
I got in the truck and Robbie had changed the stereo to a rock station. And the air conditioning was ice cold already.
I pulled around and backed up to the trailer and latched it. It was a perfect paint match to the truck. Then hooked up all the lines and got back in and engaged the PTO. Everything worked great.
But where is the winch controls.
The salesman told me we had to look for them too. They are at the back of the trailer. The hookups for the hydraulic lines come out to the right side of the second bolster. And we put longer lines on the tractor.
Oh ok that's a good idea. I made sure all the lights were working and we got ready to leave. I went over a found the officer sitting in the Tahoe with the air on.
Hey we're finally ready to go.
Ok which one do I follow.
The big lavender purple one.
Ok.
I went back over got in the truck and made Robbie put his seat belt on. I had to be careful myself. A 600 HP CAT will twist a drive shaft pretty easy if you're not used to it. So I just took it easy.
Jay you are driving worse than my mom.
Robbie this truck has more power and torque than just about any other truck on the road. And a truck isn't like a car. You have to let things warm up a little before you start working it hard. I noticed it had almost 4000 miles on it, they must have used this as the pull truck. A good sign.
I didn't know that.
And besides this thing is brand new and everything is real tight. It will take about 50 or 60,000 miles before it really loosens up.
Dam that's a long time.
Yeah but if you take care of them you should be able to go close to a million miles before any major repair.
Really I can't imagine anything lasting that long.
It will last longer if we take care of it.
Everything finally got up to operating temperature a few miles after we got on the interstate.
Robbie hold on.
Why.
Too late. I stepped into the fuel and Robbie just got pinned to the seat for a few seconds.
Now you know what I mean about power.
Sure do. How fast will this truck go.
I figure about 90 or 95 but it's too soon to try and find out.
I checked to make sure the officer was still behind us, he was. We made it home with no problem. I parked and went in the house, the message light was blinking on the phone. I hit the button and listened.
Hello Mr. Johnson this is Special Agent Robinson with the Tampa office of the FBI we need to talk to you and Robbie Taylor as soon as possible. Could you call me as soon as you can so we can set up a meeting. Our number is 813-555-1212 thank you.
I immediately called Jim my attorney.
Yes Jay what's going on.
I just got a message to call the FBI they want to talk to me and Robbie.
Do you know what it is about?
I guess what happened here last week.
It may be just follow up. Set up the meeting, but if they try to separate you guys or sound like they may be accusing you of something. Stop talking and tell them you want to talk to your attorney. And tell Robbie the same thing.
Ok Jim I'll do that.
Call me if you need me.
Ok bye.
I called the FBI and talked to Robinson. It was about the kidnappers. I told him we were coming to Tampa tomorrow to do some shopping and we would stop by about 10 am.
I went back outside and Robbie was still in the truck checking out all the goodies.
Babe you can't stay in there forever.
Why, about the only thing it doesn't have is a bathroom.
I know but we need to talk about a couple things. And get supper started, we haven't stopped since breakfast.
Ok I'm on my way.
I got back in the house and the phone was ringing again.
Hello Johnson incorporated.
Mr. Johnson this is Robert Lamb at Double Eagle Sleepers we just got a truck that was delivered for a sleeper to be installed.
Yes what can I do for you.
We need to know what kind of sleeper to install.
Oh shit I forgot to call you guys.
That's ok we can do it over the phone. Tell me what you were thinking of and I'll write it down.
Ok obviously you've seen the truck. Were you able to get any measurements?
Yes I took a few.
The way I guessed it myself I could put a 180" sleeper on it, and still have plenty of room for trailer swing.
Yes from what I measured that will work.
Good then let's go with the 180" high rise. With a back door, a couple of dark tinted side windows. Bathroom, kitchen, and a 25"flat screen TV with DVD player and self- aligning satellite. Oh and a stereo. Also if there is room a couple of recliners. Also a generator, water tank, hot water heater, and holding tank for the bathroom. Roof heat and air conditioning. And out back I'd like a polished diamond plate aluminum deck full width that runs from the back of the sleeper to the 5th wheel, with steps built in both sides.
That shouldn't be a problem. What kind of interior would you like padded or wood.
Can you do the interior in black walnut.
Sure, it's not cheap.
No problem.
You want the generator plumbed into the engine to keep it warm also.
Yes.
Let me do some figuring and I will get a price for you.
Ok I'll hold.
He came back on and said full price installed, painted to match the truck and the decking with full aluminum fenders was 43.625.00
Ok how long will it take to build and have ready.
It will be a month maybe six weeks.
Ok that's fine. Let me know when it is done.
Alright thank you.
Bye.
Who was that?
The guy from where the other truck is. I forgot to order the sleeper for it with everything that has been going on.
How long till our road trip.
A month or six weeks.
Is that why you wanted to talk to me.
No the FBI called and wants to see us tomorrow morning. I guess it is about well you know.
Do I have to go.
Yes and we are going shopping after that. But first we need to go over a few things.
What's that.
First they are going to talk to us together or don't say a thing. If they separate us tell them you want your attorney.
I don't have an attorney.
Yes you do, his name is Jim Richardson and here is his number. Also keep your answers short and don't ramble on. But like I said if they separate us don't say anything except to call my attorney.
Ok.
Also if it seems like they are accusing you, do the same thing. You got all of that.
Yeah.
Good what do you say we have for supper.
Pizza.
You're going to turn into a pizza. How about a nice steak and I'll fix some roasted potatoes and a salad.
Ok that works too.
How about asking the officers if they are hungry too.
Ok. And he went back outside.
I laid out some steaks and got a bag of potatoes out and started peeling and cutting them up. Then chopped some onion and green pepper. And got a baking dish out, lined it with foil and dumped the potatoes, onion, and green pepper. Added some butter, salt, pepper, garlic, and a little bit of water. Folded the foil down and put it all in the oven.
Robbie came back in and said the officers were eating too. I got two more steaks out.
You want to fire up the grill.
Ok.
Just don't set the house on fire.
I won't.
I got a tape measure and went out to the truck to take some measurements.
Where you going Jay.
Just out to the truck to take some measurements to see how big of a TV will fit in it. And I need to see where to mount some other things too.
I got out there and got the size of the space where the TV goes and also measured the mattress. Good 42X80 twin size sheets will fit. I also checked to see where the switch box for some extra lights would fit. I also looked at the trailer because I needed to add some lights there too.
As I was headed back in the house I asked the officers how they liked their steaks.
One said rare, the other medium.
Ok guys you got it.
Robbie the grill ready.
Yeah honey it is.
Honey? That's new I haven't heard that before out of you.
Can't I call you something besides Jay or dad.
Sure babe I didn't mean it that way. It just sort of shocked me a little.
He followed me in the house. As I started to get the steaks, he spun me around.
I just want you to know how much I love you.
I love you too babe. Come here.
I pulled him close and made sure I gave him the best and longest kiss I could manage.
I could really get used to that.
I bet you could. Let me put these steaks on and I'll give you another one.
What are you waiting on put them steaks on and get back in here.
You got it big boy.
I put the steaks on and came back in and gave my lover a few more nice long kisses.
Babe I need to watch those steaks, and maybe later we can continue.
He pulled my hand to his pants, yep he was good and hard.
We need some exercise tonight dad.
Anything you want baby.
I went and finished the steaks and told the officers to come on in and get it. We had a good meal making small talk. And Robbie helped me clean up after we were done.
Hey guys do you have any idea who will be working tomorrow?
I think Jones and Jenkins will be back for all day.
Ok could you tell them when they come on duty that we have to be in Tampa at the FBI headquarters at 10 am.
Ok we sure will.
See you guys later. I'm hitting the sack early.
Ok good night.
I went in and took a shower and as I was getting out Robbie came in.
Nice and clean for me to make love to you tonight huh?
Yeah I am. You wanna shower real quick.
Nah I'll take one when we're done. Besides I think you like the smell of a young hot guy that has the hots for you real bad.
You do huh.
I know you do.
He came over taking his clothes off real slow and wrapped his arms around me.
You do smell pretty good. For a dirty young stud.
He walked me backwards to the bed and we climbed in. we had a long slow evening of love making. Everything was slow, relaxed and wonderful. A lot of making out and feeling each other.
When we got done Robbie took a quick shower and climbed in next to me and wrapped those long arms around me and we drifted off to sleep.
