The following story is fiction based on some fact and my wishes for things that "could/might have been" if the world worked like my hopeful mind. It will eventually include sexual relations between young men. Some characters and events are based on fact but the names, places and circumstances have been changed for obvious reasons. If you're not old enough to be reading this for WHATEVER reason, please leave now. If you are plenty old enough, please continue on and let me know what you think of my first ever submission to the Nifty Archives.

Author's Note: I apologize for the delay. There have been some changes in my life recently and I've neglected Mason and Jack. But I'm back now and ready to write on. Thanks for the emails and encouragement.

Mason and Jack Chapter 5

As the caravan of John's pickup truck, Stephanie's SUV and my car drove down the dirt road to the Brown's farm I squeezed Jack's hand tighter to remind him I was there with him and wouldn't let go. He squeezed back and looked at me with a small smile on his pace. I pulled our hands to my lips and gave the back of his a lingering kiss. As I put our hands back on the center console I looked into his eyes and said, "I love you SO much Jack. Don't ever forget that."

"I never will, because I love you just as much."

As I pulled my car next to the other two that had already backed up to the door of the garage I released Jack's hand and turned off my car. "Here we go Baby. You ready?"

"As ready as I'll ever be. I can't wait for this to be over."

I got out and opened up my trunk to get the boxes and tape from it. As I was walking towards the opening garage door, the Sheriff's Deputy came out and shook John's hand.

There wasn't much stuff, but we got it all packed and loaded into the three cars in about two hours and headed back toward John and Stephanie's home. Now Jack's permanent home. I was excited but could tell Jack was a little down. "Are you ok Sweets?"

"I will be. I'm just disappointed that she didn't even come out to say goodbye to me," he said as I heard a sniffle and saw a tear escape his eye. I immediately signaled to pull over. He looked at me with a look of surprise. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Give me a minute," I responded as I grabbed my cell phone and got out of the car. I dialed John's number and waited for him to answer.

"What's wrong Mason?" John answered.

"Nothing's wrong, John. I just need a minute with Jack. We'll meet you at the house in a few minutes. Everything is fine."

"Alright Mason, I trust you. Thank you for being there for Jack. He really needs you right now. I'll call Steph and let her know everything is ok. Be careful."

"Always. Thank you John," I said as I hung up the phone and got back into my car.

I turned towards Jack and grabbed his hands. I just looked into his eyes for a few minutes and I could see the pain and confusion in them. "I love you Jack."

"I know that Baby. What's going on?"

"I just wanted to talk to you about what you said earlier about your mother not coming out to say goodbye to you."

He looked away and said, "Oh."

I pulled his face back towards me and gently kissed his lips. As I pulled away another tear fell from his eye. I wiped it away with my thumb and looked him in the eyes again. "You don't have to feel bad about her not coming out to say goodbye to you, Baby. She said her goodbyes to you when she put your stuff into the garage as if she were taking out the garbage. You've done nothing to her to cause her to treat you the way she has. She's the one with a closed mind and uncaring heart. You're not at fault for loving the person you love. You have no choice. She made a choice to disown you. That's her deal. She may come around one day, or she may not. You have to let it go. You did nothing wrong. There's no reason why she couldn't have chosen to continue loving you, you're no different now than you were before."

I let what I had said sink in for a minute before continuing. "You have people in your life that love you."

"I know that. I just don't understand why she doesn't."

"Because, she doesn't understand, Babe. She's from a different time and unfortunately she's part of a religion that doesn't understand or accept people that differ from their interpretation of the Bible. There's still a part of her that loves you, I believe that, you should too. Unfortunately her stubbornness and beliefs are getting in the way of how her heart actually feels. Like I said, one day she may come around and accept you the way you are. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. In the meantime, we need to get you unpacked in your new home."

I saw the smile come back to him and he wiped his eyes again. He then leaned in and kissed me. "You're right. There's no point in thinking about it anymore. What's done is done. I just have to wait for her to realize she's in the wrong. I love you so much Mason. Thank you for helping me realize that what I was thinking was irrational. I'm better now. Let's go help Dad and Stephanie unload the cars."

I started my car again and merged back onto the highway. We were silent the rest of the way to his new home, holding hands, with me rubbing his palm with my thumb.

We pulled up and saw John and Stephanie unloading the SUV. The truck was already empty. I parked and we got out. "I'm so sorry you two, we needed to talk. You've made some good progress. Were we really stopped that long?" I asked walking up to help Stephanie with a box.

"No, you weren't but it goes much faster when you're not having to pack each box before you load it. We've moved the extra car out of the garage and have a system going." Stephanie said with a smile. "Because you've already got furniture in your room, we've put that stuff up against the back wall. We've made two stacks, one for stuff you may not need right away and the other with stuff you may need to unpack before you go back to school."

Jack smiled and said, "Thank you all so much. For everything. I am better now that Mason and I talked a little. There's a lot I have to work on, but I feel like I'm getting closer to being on top of the world again."

I gave him a side hug and kissed the side of his head. "Let's get this stuff unloaded. I'm getting hungry and want to go out to eat tonight. My treat."

"Nonsense." John said. "This is a night for celebration and I will treat my two young men to a wonderful dinner. I might even splurge on dessert if you're willing to share."

I saw Jack blush. As I looked back to John he winked at me and I laughed. "Let's go then. I LOVE dessert!"
