Magic of Slaying-1
"Honey your going to be late." My mother called from downstairs.
"I'm up! Getting dressed." I hollered.
"Do you need me to drive you?" She asked, coming up the stairs.
"Don't come in!" I yelled closing the door as she saw me jumping into jeans, causing her to laugh.
"Just hurry up honey." She said between chuckles.
I looked at myself in the mirror. Admiring my appearance; straight light blond hair that reached my shoulders, Caribbean blue eyes, light golden tanned skin. My tiny slender frame was a bit discouraging...5 ft 4, waiting for my growth spurt.
I was dressed in tight jeans and a white shirt. Wearing a Jesus piece, and a leather bracelet with a clear cut crystal that showed random colors when the light reflected off it. It was something my dad gave me before he died, it was strange though...he said it would become of better use as I grew up. Slipping on some black boots and putting some guyliner on I was ready for my first day of high school.
I opened the door to a waiting mom, "Are you sure your ready for this?" She asked, referring to letting the world know I was gay. Yeah...I was-am. We moved because people weren't accepting where we once lived in Dallas, Texas. The were rather harsh towards the gay community. Well atleast where I lived was. Mom didn't think a second thought she said we were leaving and we left....end of story. (As in leaving Dallas.)
"Yeah. Let's do this thing!!!" I yelled my fist in the air in triumph.
She laughed at my dorky behavior, "Let's go peanut." She said leading me outside, after grabbing my sandwich, and juice, and messenger bag.
I ate in the car looking at the sights and watching my mom's expressions at the jokes I made. We looked so much alike, only difference is I have Dad's full exotic pink lips and blue eyes. Mom being mixed breed and my dad was Puerto Rican. We pulled up to the school, I pulled on my tight black leather jacket and after giving my mom a kiss, I began my venture into the world that is Sunnydale High.
After getting my schedule and my locker information, I walked to my first class. Biology. As I walked down the hallway I noticed people staring at me. Some with lust, some with anger and disgust, some with curiousity, and others with indifference. I heard shouting as I noticed an older guy scowling a student, ranting how this would affect his permanent record. I continued on before falling to the floor at being pushed by a blond girl who ran by and didn't even stop to say sorry or see if I was alright.
"Can I help you?" I heard a soft feminine voice asked, I turned to see a red headed girl with long hair, and clothes that screamed "Self-Confidence challenged."
"Sure." I said as she grabbed my hand and tried weakly to pull me up. I basically settled for just doing it myself, "Thanks for the help." I mumbled embarrassed for her and myself. Her being a weak girl, me because I was knocked down by a strong girl.
"I-I'm Willow." She stuttered extending her hand. I looked at it before shaking it, "Nice to meet you Willow. I'm Charlie." I told her with a small smile gaining on back from her.
"So-uhh, where's your first class?" She asked, "Biology." I told her, to where she pointed out the room. "Thanks." I told her as she smiled and gave a small wave before returning to hiding her hands in her long sleeves.
As I entered I had all eyes on me. I looked for a seat, sitting next to a tall tanned beautiful girl with luscious dark hair.
She scoffed and rolled her eyes, "Really? You think you have what it takes to sit next to me??" She asked me, in a superficial fashion.
"Just look the other way and pretend that I'm not here. There are no other seats." I told her, knowing she could just pop out a mirror and stare at herself the rest of class period.
"Seems I'll have too." She said with her nose held high in a superior type fashion.
Finally I finished with Biology, time for American History 101. I switched my books to History, as I backed up from my locker someone spun me over and slammed me in the lockers. It was some random guy with a little too much gel in his hair and steroid in his bloodstream.
"I don't know who you are but you got no right to talk to my girl." He said angrily,"Who's your girl?" I asked as he held me high in the air, "Cordelia!" It took me a moment to think, she must have been the rude girl. "She talked to me, besides I'm gay." I told him, he softened at first and then slammed me in the lockers again. "Then stay gay faggot! I don't need anymore guys trying to get my girl." He said walking away.
"Don't worry about that. He doesn't understand much outside cave man talk." A tall witty brunette told me, as he helped me up.
"I'm Xander." He said shaking my hand. "I'm Charlie." I told him, "Nice to meet you." He said before Willow joined us followed by the blond girl who knocked me over.
"Hey! You're the one who knocked me over." I stated, "I did? Sorry. I was in a hurry and wasn't watching where I was going. I'm Buffy." She said smiling, "Charlie." I said with a small smile.
"Welcome to Sunnydale High." They said together, before looking at eachother blushing in embarrassment and chuckling together.
"Hey. Do you want to hangouts tonight?" Xander asked me, "Where?" I asked curious. "The Bronze." He said with a grin, "Sure." I told them, before the lunch bell rang.
"Time for lunch!" Buffy said happily, "Hopefully it's Pizza today." Willow added, "Ditto." Xander and I said at the same time.
When I grabbed my food and paid, Buffy, Xander, and Willow asked if I could sit with them.
"So where did live before?" Buffy started,
"Dallas. Well I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I was raised for a few years there and around 9 almost 10, we moved to Dallas. When I hit 16....we had to move." I told them.
"Explains your yorkie accent." Willow said with a small smile.
"Why'd you move here?" Xander asked, If they were going to be my friends....they had to know.....no more hiding.
"I'm gay." I said causing Xander to blush slightly embarrassed he asked me in the first place, "Dallas wasn't very gay friendly at the time." I told them, "Sorry. I'm done with hiding."
"It's cool. We have a gay person in the group! Finally!" Xander said rather loudly, the talking in the lunch room stopped everyone looking at me.
It was about like a minute before they went back to talking amongst themselves.
"Thanks for outing me to the whole school." I told him getting up and walking away,
"Charlie! I'm sorry. It's not pike you weren't going to do the same." He said turning me around, "Doesn't mean I wanted to be broadcasted all over campus, and on my first day. It's whatever. It's over with. I'm going to class." I told him.
"Wait! What about the Bronze?" He asked as he gave me puppy dog eyes. "I'll think about it." I said walking away.
"Well....that possibly just ruined my first friendship with a gay guy." Xander said as he watched Charlie leave.
"Don't worry. It's not like you staked him." Buffy said reminding Xander of Jesse.
"Gee thanks Buff." Xander said sarcastically rolling his eyes.
"Sorry. I only meant that it's not the worst thing." She said with an apologetic smile.
"Yeah. He said continuing to eat his Pizza.
I sat through my last class of the day. Listening to the teacher talk about how society is corrupt. Just kill me.
I turned to see the guy from earlier...the one who questioned me about Cordelia. He was staring at me. I met his eyes and he turned his head not before I noticed a blush on his face.
Okay....
The bell finally rang. Time to go home, lucky for me I had homework finished earlier during free period. As I got up and walked out the guy stopped me.
"Charlie right?" He asked, "Yeah. Look I already told you. I'm.." He didn't let me finish. "My name's Harvey. I'm sorry about earlier." He said.
"Won't Cordelia be upset or something... " I started, "Cordelia dumped me. She found out I was Bi. I uh...never done this. Well my reputation has been ruined or will be by the end of today. Can you....would you go out with me?" He asked me.
"Sure. Tonight. The Bronze. See if you can make it up to me." I told him with a wink, I couldn't help but giggle at hearing him swallow loudly.
I was getting ready for the party? Hangout? Anyways, I dressed in all white. White converse, white tight jeans, white long sleave shirt, making a few cuts at the sleaves making it a veil look. Wearing a Celtic triquetra and my crystal bracelet.
I sat thinking of how tonight could go wrong....it couldn't right?
Flashes raced through my head. Harvey screaming, as he was being dragged away by two women and a man. They pulled him into a crypt, in a cemetery. Where his screaming continued for only a few more seconds until finally it was over.
I was brought back to my room, with something rushing down my nose. I wipped it from my face. Blood. A knock on my door, "You ready?" It was my mom. "Yeah." I said getting up and going outside to the car where my mom was waiting after I cleaned off the blood.
"Have fun honey. No drinking!" She told me as she dropped me off a few blocks away to make me seem cool instead of being a momma's boy. "Yes mom, love you. I'll be back at 11." I told her as I walked to The Bronze.
I walked inside without them asking for ID. Weird. The Bouncer must have liked me, or was just for show. I walked inside to see Buffy, Willow, and Xander dancing. Buffy honestly danced pretty well, Willow and Xander danced like drunk cat fish getting tasered by the police.
I walked up to Xander from behind and touched his shoulder causing him to leap in the air.
"Chillax bro. Everything is fine." I told him with a smile,
"Wow you look totally different!" Willow said with a small grin.
"Thanks Will. It's called changing." I said with a smirk causing her to laugh, "Right sorry." I nodded to Buffy as she smiled. Hands covered my eyes, "Guess who?" A voice said, "Harvey!" I guessed
"How's you guess?" Harvey said with a smirk, putting an arm around my shoulder as he waved to my trio of friends. "Harvey?!" They gasped in surprise, "Is Cordelia here?" Xander asked, "Probably. I could careless though, she dumped me for being Bi. So I don't care." He said feigning that it didn't hurt.
"Want to dance, babe?" He asked me, "Whoa! Babe? Cool your jets there hotshot. It's a date. Not like we're together or your getting lucky." I told him, BUT, "I do love to dance so sure." I told him as we went to the dance floor.
He was an okay dancer, except he was very handsy. He pulled me towards him so I was grinding into him. "Let's rethink that. Earlier notion of not getting lucky. You know you want it." He whispered in my ear. "Lay off." I said to him as I walked away.
"Charlie!" He cried, "Eat shit!" I told him walking away. I didn't curse often, but when I did prepare to have your feelings hurt.
"Are you okay?" A dark haired guy asked, I looked at him. He seemed like an angel, in a black velevety shirt. "I'm fine. Just an asshole who tried to get lucky." I said as I sat on a couch. I looked at him, he was rather pale skinned, but totally buff and a hunk.
"I'm Angel." He said shaking my hand, "Charlie." I answered back. I looked to see Harvey looking around the club for me. "Don't worry about him." He said with a crooked grin. "I'm not." I mumbled not wanting to talk about him.
"So...." he was about to start before saying to me that Willow had gone with a guy. Neat! Willow's getting herself a man." I commented, "No something isn't right." She said, "Come on. I'll help look." I told her before turning to Angel, "Sorry. See you later." He chuckled at that, "Yes you will. Good luck." He said walking into the people.
Buffy had looked around back, To my surprise Cordelia was here talking about how she was almost killed by Buffy. I'll have to ask Buffy later.
"She's gone." Xander said to us as we got out of the club. "Let's go.. the one place he would take her." Buffy said leading to a cemetery. As we got there I froze at the gates. Harvey.
"Hey! Look Charlie. I'm sorry." He said heaving from the run. "It's whatever. We're looking for Willow. " I told him, "She's not at the club? " I shook my head at his question. "Why are you here then?" Harvey asked as Buffy and Xander were already inside. "Just go back to the club." I told him, "No. I'm here to help." He said walking into the cemetery.
Dammit!
"Willow?" We called as Buffy pulled out a whittled stake. "Ummm?" I was curious, before a growl could be heard and a guy with a scrunched face and sharp teeth jumped out at me. To be blocked by Harvey. Who was trying to fend him off. More growls appeared as men and women jumped out with the same expression. What's with the Halloween getups.
Buffy staked a few and I watched as they turned to dust. I ran as more came after me, I tripped on a brick and watched as a vampire climbed on top of me. I screamed as he sunk his teeth in me, putting hands on his chest to watch as light erupted from where my hands were and seemed to burn the guy on top of me. As he ignited for a moment before he turned into ash before my eyes.
I looked at my hands to see the light that came from them dissipate and found an unconscious Willow. She was fine no neck wounds. (Hint Hint) "Willow!" I yelled trying to pick her up, I breathed as I lifted her up and carried her on my back.
Xander grabbed her off my back and carried her bridal style. I looked for Harvey. Suddenly his screams erupted into the air. I ran around the cemetery looking for him. "No!" Buffy yelled as she pulled me away, and I looked on as the Vampires...the two women and man pulled Harvey away.
"You can't go in there. I'll go." Buffy said, "No Buffy. It's too late. He's dead listen." He said as the screaming stopped. "Let's just get her home." Xander reasoned to us. I couldn't help let a few tears fall at knowing Harvey was gone. Yeah he wasn't charming, but he was a good guy. Just spittle messed up. I thought as we walked to Willow's house. After waking her up, we told her good night.
"I guess I'll take you two home." She said as she walked us home.
After dropping off Xander, Buffy and I walked in silence reflecting on the night. "Well atleast we didn't lose everyone." She said with a smile, trying to cheer me up.
"Yeah. I guess so. What's bugging me is the killer lightshow that came from my hands." (Pun intended)
"We'll just have to find out." She said as we came to my house. "Thanks Buffy." I said to her as we hugged and she left, "I'll see you at school." She said walking into the night.
It was over, a meal in the microwave. I ate and washed my plate, took a shower and laid in bed as someone surprised me. Angel.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as I saw him outside by my window. "I had to make sure you were okay." He said with a smirk, "Tonight was hectic. What with almost being eaten-urr...Umm. I mean." He stopped me. "I know all about vampires. How's you think I got up here?" He said and it hit me. He just said he's a vampire.
"Oh my God! Stay away." I said to him, "I'm not going to hurt you." He said as he told me his story. "So a moment of true happiness?" I asked as he nodded, "That sucks ass!" I commented causing him to laugh.
"You don't curse often do you?" He asked with a grin, "Not really." I told him.
"It sounds kind of cute when you do." Angel said causing me to blush, he said I sound cute. OMG!!
I yawned, "Sorry." "It's fine. I'll let you sleep." He said, about to jump. "Angel. I invite you into my home." I told him, that stopped him. "Why? You barely know me?" He asked in surprise, "You could've killed me if you wanted to, but you didn't so I trust you. Please. I don't want tonne alone." I said and could leap for joy as he came inside. I laid next to him in bed as we talked all night.
I don't know what time he left because I fell asleep. All I know now is that things will never be the same. That Harvey is dead. It's my fault. I should've just danced dirty with him.
Images haunted my dreams that night. Harvey screaming as he wad pulled into the crypt and his screaming stopped as the door was closed. Harvey...I'm so sorry.
