Gay

He was so perfect in every way, I thought. I saw him through shielded eyes. It was my first day at a new school and I had just walked into my first period class. There he was, sitting at the back of the class and it just so happened that the seat next to him was the only one not taken. I directed myself directly to that seat. Nervously, I began to chew on the end of my pencil. Before long my mind drifted to the recent past events that had taken place in my life. It was all so new to me.

Last month I had turned sixteen and with that had come the cold hard realization that I was gay. No other way around it. I, Brad Litchfield was gay. I didn't even know how or why it happened. To me of all people. I had always thought of myself as a fairly straight person. Shit, I even had a stash of Playboy magazines under my bed. But, for some reason, they just didn't turn me on anymore. Nobody knew but me. I hadn't had the courage to tell anyone else for fear of being labeled a 'freak' or an 'outcast'. Just one week ago, my mom had told me that they were moving. When asked why, she simply replied 'we need a change of atmosphere'. But I couldn't see that. I had finally grown comfortable in my surroundings. Even more so, I had become increasingly close to telling my best friend Kevin about me. I got a little pissed at her for just up and leaving like they were, but I got over it. I had no choice. Just me, my mom, and my older sister. My dad had walked out on us when we were just babies. I thought that my mom had done a really great job raising us under the circumstances. My sister, Heather, was two years older than me and she was in her last year at high school. She was pretty cool to be an older sister. All in all, I had to admit I really liked my family. They were just so-

Shit, I thought, as I looked around and realised the class was diligently working on something. I hadn't even been paying any attention to what was going on around me. This was a great way to start my first day, I thought.

" Hey dude. Excuse me." A voice beside me spoke. Oh no, I thought. He's talking to me.

" Excuse me?" He spoke up again, more insistent this time.

" Yes?" I asked as calmly as I could without looking at him.

" I think you dropped this man." He said, forcing me to look at him. When I looked, I almost shot in my pants right then and there. That would have been a good first impression for sure. His eyes were what drew me to him. He had the most incredibly deep and thought-provoking eyes I had ever seen. And, he was holding MY pencil. Okay, so I'm an idiot. Sue me.

" Yeah, thanks dude. Sorry about that." I said.

" No problem. My name is Lucas." He said. He stuck out his hand for me to shake. I gulped and shook it quickly.

" I'm..I'm...Brad." I stammered. He smiled.

" Nice to meet you." He said and started to turn back around.

" Wait! I mean could you tell me what we're doing? I was kind of off in

space when the teacher assigned the work."

" Yeah, I know the feeling. We're supposed to be analyzing the story we just read in class."

" Oh," I said, feeling relieved." Thanks dude." He simply nodded and smiled a killer smile at me before turning back around. I studied him out of the corner of my eye for a moment. He was so appealing to the eyes. He had a medium build and dark hair. I could see a six-pack well under way under his tight T-shirt. I almost drooled right then and there. The bell rang and I slowly gathered up my things, hoping he would speak to me again. I think he was about to when two guys came up to him. I overheard only a piece of their conversation as I was zipping up my backpack and leaving.

"....yeah, I know." The taller of the two said. He was kind of cute too, but nothing compared to Lucas. Lucas...ah I loved the sound of that name.

" ...and she's so hot man. She really likes you. You should ask her out." The guy continued on, not noticing Lucas' obvious lack of attention. Was it just my imagination, or could he be staring at me? I decided not to question it and hoisted up my bookbag and left.

I looked for him in my other classes but to no avail. At least I have one class with him, I thought. By the time lunch rolled around, I was starving. The school had two lunch periods, and I had the second one. I wasn't used to this and neither was my stomach. As I walked into the lunchroom, I knew I would be sitting alone. Everyone else was sitting with their own little cliques and I felt out of place. I grabbed a plate of food and looked for a spot to sit. I finally found a table in the back corner no one had grabbed yet. I moved quickly and sat down. Hungrily I started eating.

"Woah! Slow down man! The foods not going anywhere." I heard that all so sexy voice speak. I gulped and hoped he didn't think I was a pig. I quickly wiped my face hoping I had no traces of food on it anywhere.

"Oh..My stomach's not used to having to wait this long for food." I said with a small smile.

"Oh yeah? Mind if I sit down?" Lucas asked, indicating the seat across from me.

"Sure. Go ahead."

"Thanks...Brad..right?"

"Yeah." I wanted to say 'you remembered' but thought it might sound too corny. He busied himself to eating and a few minutes later a girl walked up behind him and put her arms around his waist. She kissed him on the cheek. My heart fell at the sight. Lucas smiled at her and introduced us.

"Brad. This is Emily. Emily this is Brad. We have first period together and he's new." Lucas said. He smiled at me and I could have melted. Emily sat down beside Lucas.

" So how did you get stuck with this guy?" She asked with a smile. She wasn't bad looking for a girl. She had long dark hair that had traces of red going through it. She was dressed all in black with black platform shoes. I immediately like her style along with her personality.

" He gave me back my pencil." I said lamely. She laughed hysterically at this but I could see the twinkle in her eye and knew she wasn't trying to be rude. I laughed too. Lucas, who had been eating, looked up; lost in the contents of his food.

" What?" He asked. For some reason this struck us as funny and we both laughed again.

" Nothing, babe." Emily said and put her arm around him. My smile quickly faded and I realized I was jealous. I mean who was she to take my man anyway? Woah, wait a minute Litchfield, I thought, Lucas is NOT your man. I had to get a grip on things.

" So are you two going out?" I asked nonchalantly.

" No, we're just friends. The best of friends. Emily's a bitch." Lucas said. I knew for sure he was going to get it for that one. Emily looked pretty strong for her short size. She must have known what I was thinking.

" It's okay. He calls me a bitch all the time. I know he doesn't mean it in a bad way that's why I never say anything. Besides he knows that if he does, I will beat him down." She said.

" Only on my worst days, Em." He said teasingly. She punched him on the arm and I saw him flinch although if I hadn't been staring so hard I wouldn't have noticed. I just couldn't seem to take my eyes off of him. The way a strand of hair fell above his left eye. It was just so unbelievably sexy.

" So Brad. Where do you live?" Lucas asked me. I told him.

" Hey I live right down the street. I thought I saw a moving van at that

house not too long ago."

" Yeah, that was me." I smiled.

" So, if you don't have any plans for later, you wanna come over and hang out with us for a while?" He asked. Did he just ask me over to his house? I didn't know if I could stand being in his house with him. What if I said or did something embarrassing?

"Sure." I said. And it was settled. The lunch bell rang and we all filed out. I found out later I had a class with Emily too. It was a relief to actually know someone or see a familiar face. I wasn't used to being a new kid. At my old school, I was pretty well known. I mean not to brag or anything, but I could play basketball like nobody's business.

I couldn't think straight through any of my classes for the rest of the day. Finally, the last bell rung and I think I all but ran out to my locker to dump my books and look for Lucas. Emily had said they would meet me after my last class. How they knew where my last class was I didn't know. Anyway, who cared at the moment? And suddenly, there he was. An Adonis God walking down the hallway towards me. Life at the moment was so great. ______________________________________________________________________________
