It all started about 6 months ago, my boyfriend Ted of 5 years, and I, were having some problems. It always seemed that Ted was unhappy. He started working extra long hours and working weekends, so he wasn't around that much. Then one Friday afternoon, while I was parking my bus at the terminal, I received a page over my company radio. My dispatcher Jennifer was letting me know that I had a personal phone call in her office.

As I walked into Jennifer's office, she handed me her handset. Of course it was Ted on the line, trying to quickly tell me that he was being sent on a last minute business trip and would be gone for 7 days. Before I could even respond, he told me that he was leaving the house right then to go to the airport, and that his flight was in 3 hours. We chatted a little bit longer, and then hung up the phone. As I hung up the phone reality struck me, I didn't have a ride, and I had ridden with him today.

Jennifer quickly offered to take me home if I would go out to eat with her at her favorite restaurant. I agreed, as Jennifer quickly packed up her office and locked up the building, and we walked out to her late model Toyota Camry. We drove out to the terminal gate. While we were waiting for it to open, I started crying.

Jennifer's Prospective-

There I was, in my office wishing that the day would just end. I was always bored while at home, with being single, and having no friends. However the bus terminal was like a ghost town on Friday afternoons. I was just waiting for one more bus to come in then I could leave. Just then my phone started ringing; I answered it with the usual mumbo jumbo. It was Ted, Steven's boyfriend; of course I was the only one in the office that knew of Steven's lifestyle. He just wanted to leave a message for Steven. Then I heard the gate buzzer go off, I looked up at the surveillance monitor, and I saw Steven's freightliner waiting to be buzzed in. So I opened the gate. While it was opening I paged him on his Nextel to tell him he had a personal call in my office. About five minutes later, Steven was walking into my office. I disconnected my headset, and handed him my handset. Ted and Steven talked for about 10 minutes. When Steven hung up the phone, his face turned white as a ghost. I asked him what was wrong and he told me that he had gotten a ride with Ted this morning, so he didn't have a ride home, since Ted was leaving for the airport. I saw the perfect excuse to have some company tonight. I volunteered to take Steven home, if he would go out to eat with me at my favorite restaurant, and he agreed. I quickly packed up my office, locked up the building and walked out to my car. We quickly drove to the gate, I entered my code for the gate to open, and while it was opening I noticed Steven was crying.

Steven's Prospective-

Jennifer gave me a hug, and asked what was wrong, I told her that he didn't even remembered today was our 5 year anniversary, and that I am always feeling that I don't exist anymore. I don't have any friends; so I come to work, and then go home, that is how my life evolves. Jen just looked at me and said, fuck it, we are going out and we are going to have a good time. I said ok, where you want to go? She said let's go to that new gay club down in Taylor's. I said cool that is like 5 miles from my house. Jen and I went and had Chinese for dinner. We talked more than we ate; it was so nice to have someone that you could talk to. After about two hours, we decided that we better head down to my house to park the car, and we could take a taxi to and from the club. On the way home we stopped at a liquor store so we could get some booze to pre-flight with. We got some coconut rum and pineapple juice. We were back on the road in no time, and before we knew we were turning on my street. As we were approaching the house, I used my key-fob to disarm the alarm and raise the garage door. I told Jen to park next to my Ranger. Once the car was inside the garage, she looked to her left at my Ranger, and said, damn boy, you have a nice ass house, and Ted has a 2006 Infinity, and you are driving a 1990 Ford Ranger? I said no, it's a 1988. She looked at me like what the hell is wrong with this picture. I said girl, please, all that shit is financed and my credit is at its max. I am only a bus driver. She looked at me funny and got out of the car. I got out on the passenger side and led her into the kitchen. She went straight to making the drinks; I went to go get a shower before calling the taxi. When I got out of the shower, Jen was on the couch nursing her drink. I quickly called the taxi, before joining her.

Jennifer's Prospective-

Steven was telling me about his love life or lack of while he was crying. I can't believe that Ted would forget their 5-year anniversary. So I just blurted out that we were going out tonight, and we decided on a club down in Taylor's by his house. I couldn't believe that he commuted 45 min one way just to get to work. Apparently Ted did too, so Steven rode with him a lot. We stopped at my favorite Chinese restaurant to have some dinner. We kept a lively conversation, and it was nice to be able to talk to someone for a change. After dinner, on the way to Steven's house, we stopped by a liquor store and got some Malibu and pineapple juice. Before I knew it, Steven had directed me down a road full of nice large houses. Steven grabbed his keys, and pushed a button on what looked like a keyless entry remote. Then I noticed a light came on down at the end of the street and I could see the garage door was opening. I pulled into the garage next to this old beat up truck. Good God, it must have been like a 1990 Ford Ranger. It didn't make sense for him to have a nice house, Ted have a brand new luxury car and Steven drive a beat up old truck. I teased him a bit, and then realized that he was serious. All this stuff was his, not Ted's; I realized that Ted was using him. We went into the house, and I started making drinks, while Steven got his shower and called the taxi. When Steven got out, I was on my 4th drink. He didn't know that I pretended to be nursing it, but I was really angry with Ted down deep inside. Before I knew it the taxi was there.

Steven's Prospective-

When the taxi got there, we headed out the house and I locked it up with the touch of a button. The club wasn't far. When we got there, we walked inside and paid our cover. I immediately set up a bar tab and told the bartender to keep the drinks coming. We danced forever. I was getting very drunk and tired at the same time, but we just kept at it. I danced with some hot guys, and she danced with some girls, and of course we dance together. Before I knew it, the house lights came on and the famous, "you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here", came over the speakers, so I settled the tab and we walked outside. There were many taxi's waiting. We grabbed the next available one, and went back to my house.
