Chapter 2 ==========
...
[But much to my surprise, he just turned, looked me straight in the eye, smiled that angelic smile of his, and looked back at the road as we headed to my house.]
"Shit! This is your house?!?" Matt's eyes widened as his jaw hit the floor of my Explorer.
"Yeah, I know...not much to look at is it?" I replied with a playful grin.
"Oh don't even...you rich brat! So when are your parents gonna be home? Or are they already home?"
"Well, Dad's meeting with some Army infectious disease people in Virginia and he should be home Tuesday morning," I said. "Oh, and Mom's at the head and neck conference in Hawaii for the next two weeks."
"Aww, you lucky shit! Big house, no parents...damn you!" Matt said in his most pouty voice. "So," he said suggestively, "...if you have no parents this weekend...does this mean we throw a party?"
I looked at him in feigned surprise. "What's this 'we' shit? Since when did you move in and take over my house?" I asked, as I pulled into the driveway and parked the car.
"Shut up, Trevor!"
We laughed as I led him around the back and through the back door. I could tell that he was surprised by just how big my house really was. Having two well-known doctors for parents meant that our family was pretty well-off financially, but at the same time, I was frequently left to my own devices.
My parents had been leaving me home alone by myself since I was 13. I was always a pretty responsible kid and I had adjusted pretty well to the independent lifestyle. Being lonely was never a problem, since I always had friends nearby and was quite the social animal. But ever since I came out to myself, I had been feeling more and more separated - from my friends, from my parents, from everything.
Somehow, Matt had changed everything. Just being near him made me a happier person, and his friendship meant everything to me. In a way, it was like having a brother my own age. My own little brother Mark was just plain annoying!
As I showed Matt around the house, his amazement continued to grow. After giving him the grand tour, we headed upstairs. I couldn't help but gaze longingly as his gorgeous ass as he moved up the stairs. There was no question -- this boy was mine. I showed him into my room, where we dropped off our bags and laid around on my bed.
I turned on the TV and we watched the beginning of Jeopardy. I was really impressed with how much Matt knew. He and I had a great streak going too! It's seemed like every question that I didn't know, he did. It was perfect teamwork!
Final Jeopardy came on (finally!), and we sat puzzling over the topic "Geography Wordplay" during the commercial break.
"Geography Wordplay? What kind of subject is that?" I asked no one in particular.
"Maybe like 'How do you spell Tanzania backwards?' or something!" Matt laughed.
"Umm....A,I,N...A...Z...aww shit, who cares," I grinned back. "Oh hey, it's back on, dude! Let's see who's smarter!"
Alex Trebeck introduced the question. "The name of this Asian country contains the name of a Mediterranean mountain."
Matt and I sat puzzling for a minute, before he finally spoke. "Okay, let's see...Korea?...um...Japan?...China? No...damn it ...Pakistan?"
"That's not really Asia," I said.
"What about Vietnam?"
"Hmmm...that could be it...." I trailed off, thinking intently. "Wait! Yeah! Etna!"
"Yeah, we got it!" he said excitedly.
We waited until the contestants came back on, and found out that sure enough, we'd gotten it right! We opened the Pepsi's we had gotten from the refrigerator earlier and raised a toast to our combined intelligence, laughing the whole time.
As we settled down and Wheel of Fortune came, our attention drifted and we started talking. It wasn't really about anything in particular until Matt came up with an idea for the evening. "How about a movie? I still haven't seen Rush Hour yet," he suggested.
"Sounds cool! Call up MovieFone and find out showtimes, ok?" I said as I threw him the cordless. A minute later, he put his hand over the mouthpiece. "8:00 and 8:45 are the next showings. Which one?"
"8:45 would be good. I have to pick up Mark from play practice and drop him off at a friend's house at 8:00."
"Oh shit, I forgot about the little tyke!" Matt had never really met my little brother, but I figured that since I had told him all about Mark already that it was the next best thing. "Okay then Trev, 8:45 it is!"
Matt and I lounged around on my bed for a while talking about school and life in general. We never seemed to have problems talking. He was telling me about this really hard test he had taken in Geometry, and I was playfully mocking him while he tried to be serious about it. We both ended up collapsing in a fit of giggles as he did a REALLY good impression of Mr. Sharp, his Geometry teacher, as a drunkard. Despite being on a king size bed, I noticed as the conversation continued that we were pretty close together and I started to stiffen up a bit.
As I reached down to adjust myself, doing my best to conceal the evidence, I saw Matt glance down at my crotch. He must have noticed the bulge and was quiet for a minute. I wasn't sure if it was my imagination, but I thought I noticed a similar bulge starting to form in his jeans. I looked back up at his face and was surprised to see him staring right back at me.
There was something indescribably awkward to the moment. Neither of us said anything, we just stared into each others eyes as if I could read his soul and he mine. There was total silence in the room, aside from the very low noises coming from the TV. The stare we were sharing had some intimate component to it, as though he was inviting me in. Something passed between us, and at the same time, we ever so slightly leaned our heads in towards each other. I was scared...it was reasonably obvious that we were about to kiss. It seemed to be mutual, and despite my paranoia of being 'outed', I couldn't resist him any longer. We slowly grew closer and closer.
I literally must have jerked ten feet back when my phone shattered the silence with what seemed like an ear-deafening ring. Startled, I leaned over and grabbed the cordless, fumbling with it and finally answering.
"Hello?" I said, still out of breath from the intensity of the moment. I saw Matt out of the corner of my eye sitting up and looking away from me, apparently trying to compose himself.
"Hey, it's me, and I'm ready," said the phone. My brother. Jeez, talk about horribly bad timing. "Can you pick me up now?"
I was still to startled from the experience to be mad at my brother...I'd just kill him later when I got a hold of myself. "Okay Mark. I'll be there in just a sec," I said over the phone.
We hung up and I looked back over at Matt. He still looked a bit jumpy, but managed to flash a weak smile at me.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Yeah, let's go."
Matt was silent the whole way over to my brother's school. I was tempted to break the silence, but I wasn't really sure what to say. For the first time, our friendship had taken a turn into uncharted territory and I didn't think that there was anything I could say that would dismiss the experience.
I was beginning to worry that perhaps only my imagination had created the bulge in Matt's jeans and the lust in his eyes. Maybe he didn't lean in and it was just me. Oh god, what if he's going to ditch me as a friend now? He might tell everyone...
I was unsure, confused, and worried, and yet at the same time, incredibly aroused. But I knew that I would have to set that aside and let nature take it's course.
We pulled up to the school and I saw my brother sitting out front. He jumped up and ran over to my car.
"Hey Trev!" he smiled as he climbed into the back of the Explorer.
"Hey kiddo! How was play practice?" I said as he threw his backpack in the opposite seat and put on his seatbelt.
"Good! You're still coming to the show in three weeks, right?"
"Wouldn't miss it, buddy!"
Mark's attention shifted. "Hey, you're Matt, right?" he said to my passenger.
Matt turned around and smiled. I could tell there was still a lot on his mind, since he wasn't his usual outgoing self, but he clearly made an effort to be friendly. "Yep, that's me," he said, with a nod of his head. "And I guess you'd be Mark," he added.
"Sure am!"
We made casual conversation as I drove Mark over to his friend Paul's house. Matt and I still hadn't said much to each other, aside from him asking me to turn down the radio a bit while he and Mark talked. I dropped Mark off and we headed to the theater in silence.
I knew he wasn't mad at me. I knew him well enough to know that he was only quiet either because he was embarassed or lost in thought. I could tell he was a bit uncomfortable, but at the same time, so was I.
We got our tickets and I bought us both some food on our way into the theater. We found some pretty good seats just as the previews started and we were soon lost in what was happening before us on the screen.
Somehow, I knew that this wasn't the end of it though, and that the almost-kiss we shared wasn't going to be brushed off by either of us.
