Locker Room Romance

Chapter 9

The next week was busy for the two. Jason had rehearsal for the musical he was in and Shawn was hard at work. They had only worked once during the week and they were separated. Jason was on drive-thru and Shawn on front line.

They couldn't wait until Friday where they had planned to have dinner and go see a movie. They had planned to see the movie "Scream 3" although Jason wasn't up to see it.

Friday finally arrived and it was 3pm. Jason and Shawn were still at school stuck in traffic. Traffic was always terrible on Fridays as almost a thousand people try to leave at once. Jason was supposed to meet Shawn at his house around 5-5:30 so they would have at least an hour and a half to eat dinner. The movie would start at seven and then if Jason felt that he was okay, they would go to Club Odyssey.

Jason needed to go home and gather clothes for the weekend. He would be staying the night and Saturday night again. He was excited that he was getting to spend time with Shawn. He had been seriously busy with rehearsals, school work, and work.

He talked to his mom for a few minutes while he packed two changes of clothes. She asked him what they were doing and he told her. After he had finished packing he sat at the computer and checked his e-mail. He was bombarded with messages from people.

He hadn't realized what time it when his mom popped her head in his room.

"If you're going out don't you think it is time?" She said. Jason looked at the clock and saw that it was 5:00pm. Jason thanked her for reminding and sent his responses to the e-mail. After he shut off the computer he grabbed his over night bag and headed to his car. He opened the hatch lid (for those that don't know, Camaros don't have trunks but a hatchback) and put in his bag. His mom said bye from the door and Jason said bye too.

Jason got in his car and started the engine. It purred as he put it in Reverse and drove out the drive-way.

"WHERE THE HECK is he?" Shawn asked as he waited at his apartment. It was 5:20 and there was no sign of Jason. Shawn was sitting on the couch waiting. Finally, he heard a car pull up and saw a red Camaro pull in. Shawn jumped up from the couch and ran to the door as Jason saw him and smiled as he walked up the stairs.

"Hey baby." Jason said as he walked in. As soon as he was in the door Shawn took him in an embrace and kiss. "Boy, someone is happy to see me."

"Your wrong." Shawn said. Jason looked at him funny before adding, "I'm ecstatic to see you." Jason slightly punched Shawn in the stomach as they both laughed.

"Ready to go?" Jason asked.

"Yeah, but where are we going to eat?" Shawn asked as he grabbed his wallet and keys.

"I was thinking somewhere expensive and really good." Jason said.

"How expensive?"

"Not too expensive." Jason replied as they walked out the door. "My turn." He said as pointed to his car. Shawn nodded and walked to the passenger side.

"So where are we going?" Shawn asked

"You'll see. I know just where to go." Jason said as he started the car and drove off.

JASON HAD DECIDED to take Shawn to K&W. It was a restaurant that they both loved. Shawn had figured out what Jason was doing when he had gotten on the highway.

After a few more minutes Jason pulled into a parking lot and parked beside the restaurant. Jason got out before Shawn did and walked to the door with Shawn right on his heels. They took a quick detour to the bathroom to wash up before eating.

The restaurant was cafeteria-style so they got in the line and waited to order their food. Jason knew what he wanted and he asked Shawn what he wanted.

"I don't know yet." Shawn said as he looked at the menu and the food in front of them. "I think I will have the baked Chicken."

"Chicken? We work at place that serves chicken." Jason pointed out.

"Yeah, but we don't have baked chicken." Shawn responded. Jason laughed as they proceeded through the line.

Shortly they were at a table and eating quietly. The dinner was good and they finished rather quickly. Since they had finished early they decided to go shopping to fill in the extra hour and a half before the movie started.

"Where do you want to go?" Shawn asked as they walked to Jason's car.

"Well, Wal-Mart, Target, and K-Mart are down the road." Jason said as he opened the driver's door and unlocked Shawn's door.

"Wal-Mart is cheaper and closer to the theater." Shawn said. Jason nodded as he started the engine. There was a slight hesitation before it started and Jason knew this was going to be a problem.

"I need to run better gas in this thing." Jason said as he drove away.

"It might help." Shawn concurred as they approached a set of railroad tracks. Just as the Camaro started to cross the tracks, it died.

"Damn it." Jason exclaimed as he tried to restart the engine. It wouldn't start. Two seconds after this a sound pierced the air. The sound of an oncoming train. Jason and Shawn exchanged a quick look before panic set in. Jason frantically tried to start the engine. It kept trying but it would hold. "It's flooded." Jason said.

"Come on." Shawn said as they could see the train. Another blow of the whistle made them realize how close the train was getting. Jason looked at the oncoming train and tried the engine again. It started and then died again.

"Do this for me." Jason said to the car as he tried again. Nothing.

"Put it in Neutral." Shawn said he opened his door. He was getting ready to push it off the tracks when the engine started. Shawn shut the door as Jason threw the transmission in Drive and hit the accelerator, just in time to watch the train pass by in the rear-view mirror. They both sighed a sigh of relief before they exchanged a look.

"That was a little close." Jason said.

"Little indeed." Shawn said.

"This thing is going in the shop tomorrow." Jason said as he pulled over to gather his wits. Shawn saw that Jason was a little upset. Shawn took Jason's hand as he started to breathe. "I'm scared to drive this thing now."

"It'll be okay. Maybe there is a problem with the fuel pump or something really simple. I wouldn't worry about it." Shawn said. It seemed to comfort Jason as he put the car back in gear and drove to Wal-Mart.

TWO HOURS LATER they were in the middle of watching the movie. Jason was clutching on to Shawn's arm secretly as it progressed. He really didn't like scary movies at all. There were some scenes Jason couldn't watch. Shawn was getting a kick out of it.

After the movie was over they exited the theater. Shawn was laughing.

"You were so cute." Shawn said as he laughed even more. "'Oh Shawn, please protect me from the big bad boogie man.'" Shawn joked as he received a punch in his arm.

"It wasn't that funny." Jason said defensively.

"Yes it was." Shawn answered. By now Jason was laughing as well.

"OK, maybe it was, but I don't like scary movies."

"Yeah, my arm will have nail marks tomorrow." Shawn said as he rubbed his left arm.

"Was I holding on that hard?" Jason asked. Shawn shook his head and laughed. He got another punch in the arm for making Jason worry. "You'll have to watch a romantic movie with me now." Jason said. He smiled at Shawn's face. He knew Shawn didn't want to watch a love story.

"We did make a deal." Shawn said. Jason agreed as he opened the door to his car.

"Are we still going out tonight?" He asked.

"If you want to." Shawn responded as he got in the car.

"Let's go then." Jason said as he started the engine, with no hesitation. He put it in gear and drove away.

AFTER A THIRTY minute drive, Jason pulled into their favorite parking spot and turned off the car.

"Ready?" Shawn asked.

"Always." Jason said as he opened his door. Shawn followed suite as they walked into the door. Everything seemed normal, loud music and the bright lights. Jason stopped at the entrance.

"Are you okay?" Shawn asked.

Jason thought for a moment and looked around. "Yes." He said and took Shawn's hand and led him to the dance floor. The music was fast so they danced fast.

After the song was over Shawn told Jason he would be right back and walked away. Jason walked to the bar and ordered a Pepsi.

"This next song I am going to play is to Jason from Shawn. 'From this moment on I will always love you. No matter whatever may happen between us, I will always love and care for you. I love you.'" The DJ said over the loud speakers. Jason was near tears when Shawn popped up around the bar. "From This Moment" by Shania Twain started playing on the speakers. When he song played, the tears broke.

"May I have this dance?" Shawn asked. Jason nodded and followed Shawn to the dance floor. They slowly danced in a small circle and the held each other closely.

When the song ended, Jason looked deep into Shawn's eyes and saw the truth behind them. Shawn wasn't going anywhere.

"I meant what I said." Shawn started to say.

"Shhh. I know." Jason said as he placed a finger over Shawn's lips. They moved to the side of the dance floor.

"Are you ready to go home?" Shawn asked as Jason yawned. Jason nodded and they broke their embrace and started walking to the door. They nodded some good-byes to some people as they walked out to the car. Jason reached into his pocket for his car keys and handed them to Shawn who raised an eyebrow.

"I'm too tired to drive." Jason answered Shawn's unanswered question. Shawn nodded as he unlocked the driver's door. He unlocked Jason's door and started the engine. As soon as Jason got in he reclined his seat and laid his hand on Shawn's that was resting on the gear selector. Soon he was asleep.

WHEN JASON WOKE up he was surprised to see that he was already in bed. Shawn was nowhere to be seen.

"Shawn?" Jason asked. No answer. Before he could call out again hear heard the door open and close. A few seconds later Shawn came in with Jason's duffel bag. "You didn't need to bring that up tonight."

"I know, but I thought you might need it tonight." Shawn replied.

"Thank you. Did you carry me from the car to in here?" Jason asked. Shawn nodded. "You're so sweet to me. What did I do to deserve you?"

"I don't know, but it must have been damn good." Shawn replied as he crawled in bed and kissed Jason.

"I love you. I love what you did for me tonight. No one has ever dedicated a song to me before. Thank you." Jason said. He yawned right before Shawn kissed him again.

"Time to go to bed." Shawn said. Jason nodded as he turned off the lights.

"Good night." Shawn said.

"Good night sweetie." Jason said as they cuddled together and drifted off to sleep.

"NO, STAY AWAY FROM ME. PLEASE, DON'T." SHAWN SAID AS HE RAN AWAY FROM THE THREE MEN CHASING HIM. HE WAS IN A FIELD SOMEWHERE AND WAS RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE. THE HARDER HE RAN THE FASTER THE OTHER MEN CAUGHT UP WITH HIM.

"COME HERE FAGGOT." ONE MAN CALLED OUT.

"WE JUST WANT TO PLAY." ANOTHER CALLED OUT.

"LIKE HELL YOU DO." SHAWN SAID AS HE KEPT RUNNING. UP AHEAD WAS A CAR. A RED CAR. FROM SHAWN'S POINT OF VIEW IT LOOKED TO BE A SPORTS CAR. AS HE GOT CLOSER HE COULD SEE THAT IT WAS JASON'S CAR. AND HE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE CAR.

"JASON." SHAWN SAID. HE KEPT RUNNING FASTER AND FASTER HE WAS ALMOST TO THE CAR WHEN SOMETHING MADE HIM STOP. JASON WAS LEANING ON THE CAR WITH A GUN POINTED TO SHAWN.

"HOW COULD YOU BETRAY ME LIKE THIS?" JASON ASKED.

"BETRAY YOU?" SHAWN ASKED.

"YOU HEARD ME. YOU BETRAYED ME SHAWN, AND I HATE YOU FOR IT. YOU MUST DIE FOR THIS YOU TRAITOR." JASON SAID. HE PULLED THE TRIGGER ON THE GUN AND IT FIRED, HITTING SHAWN IN THE CHEST. HE LOOKED AT HIS HAND AND ALL THE BLOOD THAT WAS COVERING IT BEFORE HE STARTING SCREAMING. THEN EVERYTHING WENT BLACK.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Shawn yelled. He woke up and looked at his hand. No blood. No bullet wound.

"What's the matter?" Jason asked.

"Get away from me!" Shawn said as he jumped from the bed and ran against the wall.

"What did I do?" Jason asked. Shawn stared at Jason and his hand for a moment before he started crying and sinking to the floor. Jason was worried and got out of the bed and walked over to Shawn. He didn't make any sudden movement as Jason slid down to him and put his arms around Shawn. "What's wrong?"

"I had a nightmare. I was being chased by three men and you were there leaning against your car with a gun. You told me I had betrayed you and you pulled the trigger." Shawn said.

"My God." Jason said. "Are you okay now?"

"No, please hold me." Shawn said. Jason had never seen him so vulnerable before, not even after the rape had happened.

"This really has you shaken up." Jason commented as he lifted Shawn to the bed. They both got in bed where Jason held Shawn and tried to comfort him. Shawn was still crying and couldn't stop. Jason soothed him and told him he would never ever shoot him as he ran his hand through his hair. After awhile, Shawn calmed down and they drifted off again.
