"We're going now, Marcus. I hope you get better fast."
"Yeah -- what? Oh yeah, Cool. Wow!" He said from his hazed out stupor.
We walked out the bedrrom door and to the front door and walked out. We said bye to DeVon, and walked out to Rennie's car. We got in and he started towards my house.
"Ren?"
"Yeah?"
"Can I -- I mean -- I wanna go home with you tonight -- not to stay -- but just for the night. Okay?"
"OKAY!!!!" HE did a full 180 brody in the middle of the street and headed off in the direction of home!
Chapter 16
Even though both Ren and I were so hungry for each other, our sex was sweet and tender. I slept soundly and securely in his arms all night, and when we woke up we took good advantage of our pee woodies. We showered together and he begged me to make love to him there. What we did was not "fucking". It was too sweet to refer to it in that way.
We both went to the shelter after breakfast. Everyone there ooo-ed and ahh-ed as we walked in together. We both blushed, and laughed. The staff there was so sweet to us! I think Rennie was really learning a lot serving others. And he seemed to love it! I really felt good about that. Ren's house guests, George and his kids showed up for lunch. We sat down to eat with them. It was even a trip eating the same food as they were. It wasn't bad food. Just plain and not as tasty as at the fancy restaurants I'd been to recently.
After lunch, we helped clean up and they let us go, with the promise that we'd come back for the dinner rush. We drove to the beach and strolled along the sand. It was pretty cold. The cold sand felt good on my feet. It was nice just walking with Ren. We walked out to the water, and dipped our feet in it. There was not another soul there. Rennie stopped once, turned to me and we just stared into each others eyes for a long time.
"Hey! How's it goin'?"
We both were so into each other we were startled. We kind of jumped.
"Sorry to scare you! We're kinda new here." He drawled. "Am I being too assuming to guess you guys are gay?"
Recovering from the start, I looked at the intruder. Well, actually two intruders. They looked to be near 30. One was larger -- a lot larger - but they looked amazingly alike. I blushed and said, "Yeah. Why do you ask?"
"I can see I have embarrassed you!"
"It's okay," I smiled, "I embarrass easily!"
"I'm Ty and this is my cousin Rick. Where does one go to meet people around here?"
"You know," I replied, "We aren't really into the `scene'. What are you looking for?"
"Just some friends. Ricky and I are both gay too, and are new in town. We live together, but we're not together. Boy it's obvious you guys are!"
I blushed again. "Well, I live pretty close. Do you wanna hang for a couple hours with us? We kind of work at the local homeless shelter, and have to be back for the dinner crowd, but we can hang for awhile." I looked at Rennie and he nodded. "Do you have a car?"
"Yeah. Wow, that's nice of you! We'd like to come over!"
"Good! Follow us!" I said. I felt okay. They were both very respectable looking.
We jumped into the Miata, and they followed us to the Smith's.
Ty has the most beautiful shade of red hair -- kind of strawberry blond maybe. He is about 6'-1" tall, and looks like there may be a body under those clothes. His face is red too, but not blotchy or freckly. His eyes are sky blue. He walked in to my flat and said, "Wow, this is great! What does a place like this cost?" He looked at his cousin and smiled.
For the first time, Rick spoke. "We are staying in a motel at present. We're looking for a place."
I swallowed hard. "I don't pay for this. It is my - er -- uncles."
"Mmm. Must be nice!" Ty said, looking jealous. I thought about the two empty rooms, but it wasn't my place to invite anyone to stay here.
"Are you guys -- um -- hungry?" Rennie asked. "We're heading over the shelter in a few minutes. Maybe you'd like to come and - "
"Eat at a homeless shelter? NOT! We're not that desperate." Ty said, defensively.
"Calm down Cowboy!" Ren said. "I've got -- well, I'm not hurting, but I like the food. You guys can help serve -- and then eat some of whatever they are serving today. Lenny and I just do it to serve. We don't need it -- either."
Looking at Ricky, Ty continued, "You sure we won't catch anything?"
Ren just looked at him -- almost with disdain.
"Sorry!" Ty said defensively. "It's just not every day we're invited to eat at a homeless shelter. If you say it's good -- that's cool! We'll go."
"What my hot-headed cousin is saying," Ricky added, casting Ty a sidelong glance, "is he's sorry -- and he'd be happy to eat wherever you say is good. The price is right!" He grinned. His teeth were perfectly straight and gleamed white. They were in strong contrast with his deep red lips. I couldn't help licking my lips as I looked at him. I immediately looked at Ren, hoping he wasn't watching. Not a problem. He was practically drooling, looking at Ty!
Well, I am really feeling confused now. Is it okay to admire a guy -- even if you have promised yourself to another? And -- if I even understand how I feel, I am hot for this Ricky! I hardly know him! And to see Ren looking at Ty that way makes me jealous, and yet I'm doing the same thing! Ren looked at me, and turned white! He noticed I "caught him."
"Rennie, come here a minute." I said, walking toward our room. "Excuse us a minute, guys."
As soon as we got into the room and closed the door, Ren looked scared and worried, and said, "I'm sorry. I'M SORRY! Lenny I - " and tears started to drip onto his face. I immediately threw my arms around him.
"Ren -- it's okay -- it's okay!"
"It - - it -- is?" he said sounding completely confused.
I took a long deep breath. "Rennie, it's okay to look. And we can't really control our immediate response to what we see. But -- well -- we have to control what we do after that happens. I DID feel jealous -- I admit that - "
"I -- Len -- I don't want to make you jealous! I - "
"I know you don't! And I don't want to make YOU jealous! Ren, I was looking too -- at Ricky -- in the same way. But you didn't catch me!"
"You did?" He said, looking relieved, but not quite believing.
I pulled him back in close and held him for a moment, then, said, "You ready to go back out there?'
"Yeah -- how do I look?"
Other than the red eyes, I'D take you to bed!"
He grinned and we went back out. "You guys need some privacy?" Ty asked.
"Naw, it's okay." I said. "Sit -- relax -- let's talk a little before we go to the Ritz for lunch!"
"So -- where are you guys from?" Ren asked.
"Oklahoma." Ty said.
"Wow!" I exclaimed. "You're a long way away from home."
"Actually we hope we're not! Where we came from is NOT our home! It's a small town-- on the Black Mesa, in the pan handle, and it's not cool to be gay there! We are hoping to call California home now."
"Why California?" Ren asked.
"No reason except we always heard it's pretty gay-friendly here. As far as we knew we were the only ones there! And we feared for our lives!"
"Wow!" Ren said. "So you never - - " Then he realized where he was going and stopped talking, abruptly turning red.
"Yeah, we have. With each other. Can't do no harm as I see it." Ty said. "It's not as if someone's gonna end up with child or sumthin'." He giggled at that -- so did Ricky.
"Oh- - kaaay! Well, I guess you have to do what you have to do." I said. "No -- it's okay -- no problem here. But I know some would probably wince at that."
Ren started to giggle now. "What?" I asked.
"Actually, I think it's kinda neat. I -- erm -- have always wanted to do something with Morty!" Then he turned red again.
And I couldn't help noticing the way Ty was looking at him!
"Well, anyway," Ty continued, "We have experimented -- quite a lot -- but we will be lookin' for other entertainment now. Where does one go?"
"As I said, Rennie and I aren't in to the scene here -- or anywhere really. But I know of some gay bars, and a gay restaurant. Never been to any of them, but I know where they are."
"Cool." They both said in unison. Ricky looked a bit embarrassed that Ty had given up that little secret!
"So -- are -- um - " Ricky started, "are you guys -- um -- boyfriends?" Then he turned red. I don't think he ever said anything flirty in his life -- to a guy!
"Yeah!" Ren said. "Boyfriends!" Wow! That sounded like a territorial remark! He even moved closer to me. Ricky looked from Ren to me.
"We've been -- er -- dating -- for awhile." I said. I couldn't help but see the disappointment in Rennie's face when I said that. "We're both about 18. We're still young, as I see it. How about you guys?"
"I'm 18 too!" Ricky said. My mouth dropped!
"OH! Wow!"
"What?" Ricky said.
"Oh, heh, I -- well, I thought you to be about -- erm -- well, 27 or 28!"
"Naw! I'm 18, and Ty is 29. I'm a little young for him -- wouldn't you say?"
"I don't see what age has to do with it!" Rennie said. That surprised even me. "If two people get along, what difference does it make?"
Ty's eyes seemed to be riveted to Ren! "I agree totally!" Ty said, almost defensively. I decided it was time to change the subject.
"So what's the decision? Are you coming down to our "Ritz" to help out with lunch?
"Sounds okay to me!" Ty said.
"Cool!" Ricky said, smiling very alluringly at me. I couldn't help smiling back.
They followed us to the shelter. When we got out, I pointed to the park. "A lot of guys meet over there, but I wouldn't advise it. Pretty dangerous place."
"Dangerous?" Ty said, staring closely. "I don't see anyone I couldn't handle!" He said it almost macho-like!
"You probably don't WANT to handle any of that!" Ren said. You'll see some of them up closer in awhile. Some of them come here to eat."
"Ooohhhh. You're talkin' disease!?"
"Yeah. Pretty bad place." I reiterated.
"Hrmph! I got me some condums!"
"There are bugs that a condom doesn't protect you from, Dude!" Ricky said. "I keep tellin' yah!" Then he looked at me. "Ty is - " he looked at Ty, "Horny! And he didn't learn about this stuff in school -- like I did."
"Aw, that stuff in school is just to scare kids!" Ty said.
"The stuff in school is true and real." I said gravely. We walked into the shelter. Arthur immediately accosted us.
"Hey, kids! Did you bring me some more help?"
"Well, at least for today" Ren said. "Arthur, this is Ty, and this is Ricky." They shook hands.
"We'll take any help we can get. Looks like a stormy night is on it's way. That always brings `em out of the woodwork. Are you gonna all be here for dinner too?" He looked pleadingly from face to face.
I was surprised. Both Ty and Ricky nodded. It pretty much took all the time between lunch and dinner to clean up from lunch, prepare dinner and also get the place prepared for extra company, driven in by the bad weather. We all joked and carried on like a bunch of school kids! Everyone was laughing and carrying on as we worked. Once, when Ricky was laughing and he met my eye, his finger grazed my arm. It sent a tingle from my head to my feet. Ty looked like he was getting bored by the time we were finished. I was exhausted.
"What do you guys have planned tonight?" Ty asked. He was visibly disappointed when I said,
"I'm really tired. I just want to go home to bed." I looked at Ren. He also looked disappointed.
As soon as we were away from Ty and Ricky, Rennie said, "Did you mean you wanted to go home - like MY home -- to MY bed?" He was grinning from ear to ear. Hard as that was to resist, I said I wanted to go home -- to MY home and MY bed. He persisted: "Oh! Okay, we can stay there if you want."
His smile was delicious, and made my body react in the positive way, but I still refused. I almost cried at his expression on his face, but I remained firm. He waited until I was up the stairs and in the house to drive out of the driveway.
I had just shut the door when I heard
CRASH!!!
I jerked the door back open. He was not in the driveway, so I ran down the stairs three at a time and then it hit me. That was thunder. The lightning was so close it sounded like an explosion. Before I cleared the wall, I saw that it had hit a power pole. I looked back for a second and the lights were still on, so I kept running to check out side the wall. No one there. I heaved a sigh of relief. I couldn't live with myself if I had sent him out there to be hit by lightning -- or have a power pole fall on him!
Then all hell broke loose. It was raining sheets before I got into the house. Rennie was only 5 minutes away, so I called. He was not home yet. I tried his cell phone. No answer there either. I left a voice message: Call me as soon as you get this!" I then left the same message on his home phone.
I picked up the phone in mid-ring! "Hello?" It hadn't been two minutes.
"What's up? Change your mind?"
"So! You're okay!"
"Soooo - am I coming back there?"
"No I - "
"Then I'm not okay!" I could hear the pout in his voice.
"Lightning hit the power pole in front of the house. I was worried about you!"
"Oh! Well, I think you better let me come over there and protect you from the goblins in the dark!"
"It's not dark. No, Rennie -- not tonight, please? I just want to sleep! I'll see you in the -- er -- morning -- k?"
"Oh KAY! But don't expect my right hand to be in any kind of shape!!"
"Will you be thinking about me?" I asked.
"Mayyy-beeee."
G'nite, gooney!
"I love you!"
"Luv you too! I said and I hung up."
I walked over to the window and the rain was not stopping for anything. And the lightning was everywhere. I was drenched from running around in it, so I shed my clothes and headed for a hot shower. The window at the end of the shower room clearly showed the rocks below, with the lightning about every five seconds.
I turned off the water and the noise was deafening. The thunder and the pounding rain. But there was something else. I walked out toward the living room.
POUND POUND POUND!!
Someone was at the door! I shook my head and went over to unlock it. I didn't have any clothes on, but I knew who it was, so it didn't matter. Before I got to the door, I had already determined to give him a stern lecture -- then invite him into my bed!
I was talking -- no, yelling -- as the door was still opening: "RENNIE, I TOLD YOU NO! I WANT - "
I stood there looking at a very drenched boy -- and even though it was raining hard, and his whole face was wet, I could see he was crying.
"Ricky!!" I exclaimed. I forgot all about my nudity, and opened the door wider and grabbed him, pulling him in. I then noticed I was not wearing anything. I think I saw it in his expression first. "OH! Sorry! I ran and grabbed a pair of the white boxers Rennie had given me. I came back into the living room. Ricky was still standing in the same spot, looking very forlorn.
"What's -- Where's uh -- Ty?"
"He -- he -- he insisted on going to that park as soon as we left you guys. I wanted no part of it. He told me to get lost -- and NOT to go back to the motel room -- that was HIS destination - with his -- whatever he found!"
By the time he was finished talking, his grief had turned to anger. "Hey, bud!" I consoled. "Come on in and jump in the shower to get warm. I'll find something for you to put on. Here's a clean towel."
I pointed him to the shower room. "Cool!" I heard him say. All I could find for him to put on was a pair of black boxers that Ren loaned me once and I refused to wash them for a long time because they smelled like Rennie! But they were clean now, so it wasn't a problem.
When he came from the shower, toweling his hair, so I couldn't see his face. That was the only thing I couldn't see. He had a nice compact package, with an almost lily white shaft and a dark red head. It made my stomach churn. I turned and left the bedroom before he could see I was even there.
He came out of the bedroom with those black boxers, looking sexier than I was ready for. It was obvious he was a serious workout junkie! He smiled demurely and asked if I had any jammers. I went into the bedroom and retrieved some of mine. He put them on. his hands and feet were both hidden in the excess length. He giggled. So did I.
I suppose I didn't need to worry about it, but I still felt like I was a guest here, so I didn't offer to let him sleep in one of the other bedrooms. I told him he could have my bed and I could sleep on the couch. He refused adamantly.
"That's the biggest bed I ever seen, uh -- Lenny, is it?"
"Yeah -- Lenny."
"Could -- couldn't we both hang out at separate edges of the bed. I promise, I won't be a bother. I hug the edge anyway."
How could I refuse. "Sure." It was then that the lights went out. We just climbed into the bed and each said good night.
I slept so soundly I didn't know when the rain stopped, or when I had made my way over to Ricky's side of the bed. As my eyes slowly got used to the dim light from outside, I also noticed that he was lying half on top of me, and drooling on my neck. I guessed this was how he and Ty slept. I heard a very slight creak and looked over at the door. It was slowly opening.
My mind was racing! OH SHIT! I didn't lock the front door after letting in Ricky! My body felt as if it was not attached to my brain. A shadowy figure moved into the room, which was spinning. I felt dizzy. And I was just waiting until the right moment to pounce. As he got closer, I think I smelled Rennie before I saw him! He looked down at the two of us. Our eyes met. His were already glassy. "Sorry." He whispered, "I thought -- never mind." And he quietly left the room. I turned back over wondering if it was a weird dream. I went back to sleep.
"DUDE!" I am so sorry!" Ricky drawled. "I didn't -- I mean -- I wasn't - "
"It's okay," I said, "I was the one to wander over to your side of the bed." I vaguely remembered a disturbing dream. Something about Rennie and a dark room and - -
"I woke up once," Ricky said, "and your friend was standing over us. He said something -- I don't know what -- then left the bedroom."
Then it WASN'T a dream! I flew out of bed and into the living room.
"Dear Lenny," the note started. "Dude, you could have just told me that you wanted to sleep with Ricky! You didn't have to lie about it. I know we're not exclusive, but I still FELT that way. Obviously you don't. Lenny, I can't even write how that made me feel -- to find you two in such a loving position. I guess we maybe are not for each other -- well at least in your mind. Bye. I love you."
"NOOOOoooo!" I wailed. No no no no no!"
Ricky came running from the bedroom. "What?"
I handed him the letter. "Oh, Lenny. DUDE! I am so sorry! Hey! I can tell him we didn't do anything!"
I dialed his cell number. "HI! I'm not here! Leeeeeave a message!"
"Ren -- please -- you HAVE to call me. It's not what you thought -- at all! Please call as soon as you can."
I hung up and dialed his cell phone. It rang three times and then "Hello?"
"Who's this?" I asked.
This is George from next door. I should have let it go to message but my kids were distracting me and I answered it. Sorry!"
"Is he there?" I asked.
"Who's this?"
"It's Lenny!"
"Oh! Okay, well, I KNOW he'll want to wake up for you. He was crying when he came in last night, and I eased it out of him. he really wanted you last night! I'll just push open his bedroom door here. Oops! Nope!"
"He's not there?" I asked.
"Er -- well, no -- I mean yeah -- he's here, but, ummmm - "
"Who is it!" I asked. "Who's with him?" I demanded as if George could know all of Ren's friends.
"I dunno -- oh! I think it's that big guy who was helping you yesterday -- the new one."
"Who?? Ty??"
"Is that his name? I guess."
"Don't bother them." I said. I hung up the phone. I looked almost through Ricky. "Do you have any idea what time it was when he came in last night?"
"Yeah. It was 10:52. I saw your clock."
"Well, I guess Ty found someone." I said, feeling completely defeated. Ricky walked up to me and hugged me, and lay his head on my chest. Then he looked up at me.
"Question is -- have you?"
I seemed to looking into his soul. I saw hurt and innocence and something else -- I don't know what. Before I knew what was happening, our lips were softly locked in a gentle kiss.
"Wow!" Ricky said. "That's the first time I ever kissed a guy!"
"Wait -- you mean you never kissed Ty?"
"EWE! He's my cousin!" he exclaimed. "I may be from Oklahoma, but it's another thousand miles to West Virginia!"
I laughed. "That's not very nice! So -- it's okay to have sex with your cousin -- but not to kiss?"
"Sex is -- well -- it's just to feel good. Kissing is -- is -- so -- um - "
"Intimate?"
"Yeah!" I could never do this with Ty!" And he kissed me again. I responded passionately. I felt his member pressing on my thigh -- and mine on his stomach! I pushed him away.
"Dude!" I exclaimed. "We gotta take a step back and think about this. I love Rennie!"
"Yeah -- I figured. Just my luck, too! Ty finds sex with a cute guy and I miss out again!" He pouted, but it was clear he was teasing.
"But -- what about - - him and Ty?"
"Well, if we looked bad -- and we WEREN'T -- then I have to wait for an explanation -- from Rennie -- before I jump to any more conclusions. Let's get dressed and catch a bus over there." I said.
When we got there, I saw that Goerge was home, so after trying Ren's locked door, I knocked on George's.
"Hey Lenny! Come on in!" He said, then his smile faded. "How are you doing?"
"Not so good, George. But -- last night Ren saw something that was completely the wrong impression. I have to give him some leeway."
"Hmm. Well, do what you have to do, Lenny."
I walked over to Ren's side of the condo -- and then into his room. I motioned Ricky to wait out in the living room. They were sleeping in a very intimate spoon. I sat down on a chair and waited for one of them to wake up. As I sat there, I started to run all of our relationship through my head. By the time I got to the present, the tears were drenching my face.
"Dude!" Rennie whispered. I hadn't noticed that he woke up. "I know this looks bad - "
"Yeah, it does. But no worse than what you saw last night!" I retorted.
"Oh. Yeah. It hurt that you didn't seem to care that I saw you." He said matter-of-factly.
"I thought I was dreaming. Ren -- nothing happened. NOTHING!"
"It didn't look - "
"We fell asleep on opposite sides of the bed. I was dreaming that you were - "
"Heh. You were thinking of me the whole time - - right?" He said sarcastically.
"Rennie! We didn't DO anything."
"Len -- it's okay! Really! I think -- well -- I -- um -- Len," he paused way too long, then swallowed hard. "NO ONE has made me feel like this guy makes me feel right now."
If it felt like there was a dagger through my heart before I came into the bedroom, it definitely felt like it was being twisted now. I stood there with my mouth open. I was hyperventilating. I felt like I would any moment explode. It was a familiar feeling. How many times do I have to go through this?
I turned without another word and walked out. Ty was awake by this time, but he didn't say a word. I walked out of the house and started down the street, blindly.
"DUDE!" Came a voice behind me. I turned hoping he had somehow -- miraculously -- changed his mind. It was Ricky. He ran to me and stopped just short of running into my body. "Wait for me. I want to come with you." The way he said it -- it was like he was choosing me over his cousin.
"Rick -- you don't have to -- I mean -- your cousin - "
"What he did was crummy! I knew this a little, but I didn't think he would stoop to this level."
"Dude, Don't! He's your - "
" -- but -- that's not why I ran after you."
"Oh. Well, why -- uh - "
"Lenny -- I -- don't quite know how to say this but -- I think you need me -- now -- and," he hesitated only a moment. "And I definitely need you!"
"I -- I don't understand." I said, woodenly.
"I just can't be with him -- Ty -- right now. And I don't wanna -- well actually I'm afraid of being alone. Can I come with you?" He seemed like a little boy.
"Of course!" I said. "Let's go home!" I was not a happy boy.
Notes: Did Rennie just need someone older -- having lost his dad and mom? Is he just too mixed up to really commit to anyone? Will we ever find out? Your guess is as good as mine. And don't even TRY to get me to guess what -- if anything -- will happen between Ricky and Lenny! Comments are ALWAYS welcome tho! Please send them to Steve, at s4d@hotmail.com. Please put "Lenny" in the subject line if you're a new friend. Thanks and love, Steve
Bottom line: Love will Rule in the end.
