Henry, Jesus and Karen searched for two more weeks. They were unable to find even a trace of what had been sold to the wealthy as a doomsday village. Between the hours I needed to care for the twins I worked on the drone that Tony had taken from the campus police station in Enid. Tiffan spent some time trying to figure out wiring diagrams that seemed not to match the drone but were in a booklet that was clearly marked with the same model numbers that were on the body of the drone.
The first time we tried to fly the drone it went backwards and instead of leaving the jet flew back into the galley breaking two of the six propellers. Only a year ago I would I gone on the computer pulled up Amazon or Ali Baba and ordered a half dozen of the fragile propellers. I must have been talking about the idea out loud.
"Walk over to Amazon and find one for yourself." I thought Tiffan was making a joke at my expense but when I followed where his hand was pointing I saw the huge Amazon sign on a building that must have been twice the size of the Space port.
"How can you find anything in there?"
"Amazon was well know for their numerical systems. If we can find a working computer you should be able to find their site."
"Tiffan there is no internet, no computer is going to make it reappear." I couldn't imagine having to start a search of the building across two highways from the Space port.
"I think they were like 100% dependent on their computers, they were said to have a network of their own. I still wonder if they didn't have the sense to have a fall back paper copy of the inventory or items in the warehouse by item number. Of course we don't know the item number but we are smarter than the average bear."
"Yaba Dabba Do."
"Isn't that mixing up Hanna Barberra?"
"Never watched enough to have any idea who is who."
I was walking a lot better and for further distances. Karen had joined me on the last few exploratories I had done of the Port. We had found a few items that we used to replace those that were wearing out but for the most part there was nothing we really needed. There was still a newsstand with a photo of the President and her two sons standing in front of the jet we were using before leaving Washington, D.C. Reading it I confirmed everything Rhoda had told us, on page six I saw an advertisement for the doomsday village in Ector. Texas.
It wasn't to the west of Midland at all, it was supposedly northeast of Dallas. The list of investors in the ad. included two ex-presidents, a former governor of the state various CEO's from the twenties and thirties a well known and despised multi-billionaire that had attempted a flight of engineers and geologists to Mars only to have the ship carrying them crash to Earth. We had our friends searching Ector County instead of the town. If only. We spent the next two days quietly hauling items out of the jet and packing the trucks the best we could, I couldn't do much of the lifting but we found a ladder that allowed me to carry light items into the beds. Dallas is in the same state but it is more than an a five hour drive without the road blockages, how long it might take us I had no idea. Unless we could skirt Fort Worth and Dallas it looked like it might actually take us more than a day.
"I have failed you as an expedition leader. I will willing allow someone else to take charge of what needs to be done if that is what you want. I put two and two together and didn't realize one of the two's should have been a one. The Ector Texas we should have been searching is a town Northeast of Dallas not the county. I had been confused as to why it would be here in the midst of nothing until the Space Port was proposed. I then saw the billions coming together to siphon off enough government grant money to build the infrastructure that had been proposed.
"We have been searching the County instead of the town that I mentioned.
"I intend to head towards Dallas and hope to find the actual doomsday village but reading the ad it sounds a lot less likely that anyone would have survived if they were living there.. Most of the facility was based on the idea that the inhabitants would have a half hour warning of an attack on the USA. As you are well aware there was no warning. Nothing is mentioned about metal housing that would have surrounded the homes or common areas of the village, the more I read the more it seems they were planning on going underground which we already know wasn't enough.
"There are a few other possible enclaves that might have allowed people to survive. The first is not that far from here in Los Alamos, N.M.. The government set up shelters that were lined with lead in case of a radiation leak, from any of the experiments being conducted there. In the last five years of so the director and his family had moved into one of the shelters due to uncontrolled paranoia on his wife's part. Nothing has been written that I have seen about anyone else living in the other shelters although there were op-eds written to the Albuquerque and Santa Fe Papers regularly pleading for the other families living on Los Alamos to join her.
"Yes, it is likely that she may have survived. Her husband was probably at work and the children at school. Has she been able to survive the months since the event and do we have the excess energy that will be necessary to deal with a severely paranoid individual that may also be in a severe depression due to losing her husband and children. We all have lost people but a person suffering paranoia would be affected in a much more severe and debilitating way by that loss."
"Next?" Henry didn't sound enthused by that idea.
"This one I think is really a promising repository of life. The NORAD underground facility out side of Las Vegas.
"It is also possible that there were survivors in some of the vaults under the casinos. If any of you wish to go there I wish you well, I am not particularly fond of military discipline and don't care to have to adjust to it.
"It is a fifty-fifty gamble. If there were people entering or leaving the facility when the attack hit everyone will be just as dead as the rest of the country. If it hit between entrances and exits they might be alive, but I have no specs for their doors and seals to say any more than that. They may have switched to the highly touted carbonite enclosures DuPont was selling the government for other secure buildings and lost their lives to new, better, more effective, magical thinking. I haven't been able to find anything that says there would be metal enclosures but NORAD was always said to be able to withstand nuclear attacks and that generally means lead enclosures of some kind."
"You said there might be people that were in the vaults doing the counting or whatever." Karen asked, I thought she was set on going to Dallas, but I answered.
"Gambling is mostly done on debit cards so the counting rooms of the past are often just a single woman running a dollar counting machine with a security guards standing watch over her. Are they locked in the vaults like the counters were decades ago? I don't know."
"You said there were a few, that is only two." That Henry was paying that close attention was promising.
"When I first started to the Mid-Atlantic from Maine I thought I would be looking for some of the missile silos that hadn't been decommissioned due to nuclear disarmament. They would be difficult to find as the government didn't like to spread word of the existence of the silos to the neighborhoods where they had been placed. Even if we find a missile silo from the list I have it may have been decommissioned and be empty. If it is still housing a missile and personnel, the commanding officers may have taken it upon themselves to go down with the ship, never opening up to anyone they see on land that is not military." That would make sense only if they had no communication with the outside world.
"There may be other places, do any of you have ideas?" I had talked too much. If they wanted to take over the sinking ship I was okay with stepping back and taking care of my children and taking orders. Not that I had given that many orders.
"Roger, should we possibly stop looking for others and let them look for us? The doomsday village would be a place where we might live out another attack if we fortify it so that everyone is within metal enclosed space most of the time."
"Tiffan, I hope you weren't reading my mind. I had started the search for this village with the dual hope of finding a place that would be safe for the future and finding other survivors. I would settle for the first part. I feel safe enough with the people we have now. We may have to do risky runs to gather food and supplies for a few years but until we feel safe from another attack I can't see us trying to farm or manufacture goods." I thought there was supposed to be a plot of land under cover for farming at the village but that seemed to be the reason they were still having money problems.
"Rather like some of those Armageddon movies. Raiding the countryside for food?"
"If you have a better idea, please share it. Like I said if someone else either wants to become the leader of this group or is selected by a majority I will step down without an objection."
I hadn't planned on a physical display of loyalty, but when I was done talking Jesus and Tiffan stood up and walked in behind me. Rhoda took a second and joined us. That only left Henry and Karen, I thought they might want to go off in another direction but Karen asked for the map that showed the way to Dallas. She handed Ginger to Rhoda and talked to Henry off to the side beyond my hearing distance.
"We need them. Without them we don't have enough drivers for the trucks."
"If they go off on their own or even if just Henry does we will agree to a fair division of goods, they have helped gather what we have and a portion should be theirs."
"Henry has agreed to come with us as far as Dallas to guarantee we get there safely. If we aren't able to find any survivors in the city he will continue with us to Ector. Once we are safely in the village he intends to head north to see if any of his relatives have survived. He understands as well as you and I that there is almost no chance but he still wants to look in the territory that was the home to his people."
"I had some poor cousins that would often let their kids nap in refrigerators or car trunks. They have the best chance of having survived May 1st but without parents I don't know if any of them were old enough to survive afterwards." Thinking about what he said I almost told him to take off on my cycle, an hour might make a difference if there were kids trying to scavenge a living out of the village where he was raised, unaware that there would be food in the next town and the next.
"Henry, I hope some of the kids survived. If you want, you could bring them wherever we decide to live when you leave." Two or three more kids would surely make the possibility of repopulating Earth greater. One of them may be close to the age of having babies, either mother or father.
The trip back across Texas was about the same as our trip to the Pan-handle, close to the towns and small cities there would be more cars blocking the roads but we had learned that taking FM (Farm to Market) roads generally gave us a free lane on the long stretches between towns and we made good time. It was barely sunset when we arrived outside of Fort Worth, unintentionally we pulled the caravan into a Ducati dealership. None of the others were bike riders or I would have asked someone to scout out the road north of the city on one of the hot bikes, that might help us avoid the loop that circled Ft. Worth and Dallas. I had never visited there but their roads had always been listed as some of the country's most congested
"You've been looking in that window at those bikes for and hour."
"Tiffan, I wish I was ready to ride again. I have always wanted one of those even after I bought my first Harley. I planned on having a Ducati as my "second car".
"We should take one with us for when you get healed enough to start riding again." It was the type of thing a lover would say. I gave him a glance and a hug.
"The trucks are all filled and unless they have a trailer around back I don't know that we could do it. The trucks are all too high to hook up a trailer anyway."
"That's not right, the plow Karen was driving has a trailer hitch that might work." I was surprised he had noticed that and I hadn't. We started looking around the garage and the lot to see if there was a cycle trailer. It was dark before Tiffan saw a tongue sticking out from a splattered painters tarp. We tried to mark the route as we headed to the front of the lot to rejoin the rest of the group, we didn't need tow waste time the next morning. Henry had promised a meal cooked on an outdoor fire, corn on the cob, steak and potatoes buried in the coals, everyone was glad to have him cook for once.
The flames or the smoke drew unexpected attention. Karen and Rhoda were setting up a table using a door Henry had taken off the hinges when they saw eyes poking out from a car parked alongside the road. They didn't have any idea what they were seeing but were startled so badly they screamed, chasing the eyes from the opening and bringing Henry and Jesus running with pistols in hand.
Sometimes I say Jesus is brave others foolish, but I never doubt Henry's attitude in a situation like that. They started towards the road where the women pointed to the car. Later they said they weren't even half way across the four lane street when the child dashed out an open door and attempted to escape. Jesus caught her within fifty yards even with the head start she had. By the time she was brought back to the area that had been set around the fire for us to enjoy Henry's attempt at camp-fire cooking Tiffan and I had returned and were talking to the doctor and nurse attempting to calm them down.
"Amigos, her name is Maria. She is seven years old, siete, si? She has been living in cars and empty stores since the attack on May 1st. Viviendo, solo?" He was attempting to be sure that he wasn't telling us anything the girl didn't want us to know. If I had been her I would have been very afraid, four and a half months without seeing another person and here were nine strangers, one of which had chased and caught her.
Jesus asked if she was thirsty, gave her a bottle of soda he had been saving for himself and let her know that dinner would be ready soon. Rhoda tried to examine her to make certain she was healthy but the girl wouldn't cooperate without Jesus sitting beside her. Since he was the one speaking so that she could understand and be understood it made sense. The rest of us stayed back, prepared what needed to be done for our supper, tended to the infants and talked normally. I hadn't known that Jesus and Henry had loaded the freezer boxes with Strip steaks but once they were on the fire my stomach began growling. Karen, Rhoda and Jesus shared a section of their steaks, a whole ear of corn and at least half a potato with the starving child.
"Maria and her brothers were playing in the junkyard off to our left. Her older brother had shut her in a refrigerator while her younger sister counted to a hundred. He had promised to get her out after their sister found someone, it was a trick they had pulled dozens of times previously. They were as close as twins so when he didn't open the refrigerator she knew he wasn't trying to hurt her but didn't know what to do, for a few hours she wasn't getting any fresh air, kicking and pushing she was able to get the door open enough that she could breathe. For two days she was stuck in there, crying, afraid and hungry and unable to open the door any further.
"She thinks it was the second or third night that there was a big storm that tumbled the refrigerator off the trash heap where it had been laying. Her head was hit hard and when she woke up she was in a pool of ice water. Weak from hunger and the cold water she climbed out of the refrigerator and fell to the ground where she cut herself." He held up her left arm where there was an infected scar that ran from her elbow to her wrist.
Maria had stopped listening to him, she was force feeding herself although Rhoda and Karen kept telling her to slow down. Jesus saw what they were saying and held her by the hand while explaining to her the food wouldn't disappear and she needed to slow down or she would be making herself sick. She would try to obey him but every few bites he had to hold her hand back, I suppose it would have been amusing if we hadn't known it was because she hadn't had a warm meal in all the time she had been alone.
After everyone ate and cleaned the area we sank into normality; feeding the infants, preparing the bottles, Tiffan held Ton and I held Dana for awhile after they finished getting them to burp. It is difficult to tell them apart unless you're changing their diapers. Dana always gets an erection when fresh air hits his little prick and Ton sprays piss everywhere. If they changed that pattern they would be impossible to tell apart, I was debating with Rhoda about circumcising one or the other. I didn't know about the benefits but I personally enjoyed an uncut cock in my ass but a cut one in my mouth, they might grow up lucky enough to find a partner that felt the same way, who knows? We had come to the decision that we would do it after we found the village if the proposed medical center had been built, neither of us wanted to be dealing with an infant with an infected dick. I could imagine the incessant crying.
Jesus asked the adults if we would let Maria stay with us. I thought it would be more up to her wanting to stay but we all agreed without discussion. We didn't look for a motel, most of the buildings we had seen that weren't built with most of their walls concrete or glass lay in ruins. We had enough ground pads for the adults and showed Maria what we intended. She began crying and screaming. Until she calmed down some we didn't understand that she was afraid of "los lobos"
Once we understood she had been seeing wolves prowling the streets most every night we all agreed to keeping the fire lit and stand guard for a couple hours each while the others slept. The last time we had heard of wolves or seen any had been a few hundred miles to the north in Enid, all I knew about wolves was unless they had no food to prey on they wouldn't roam that far. I had no idea what they might be living on, we hadn't seen any other animal and wolves are definitely carnivorous.
It was sweet to see Jesus taking care of Maria and allowing her to curl up against him to sleep. If she had been any older or he had any interest in females it might have worried me but as it was I thought it was what she needed and might do him good, too. When his time to stand guard came Maria wouldn't leave go so I stood a second turn before waking Tiffan and handing him my pistol. None of us had seen anything on the streets but Henry said that shortly after midnight he had heard two packs of wolves calling back and forth in the distance, we all hoped they continues on further into the distance.
Maria was holding so tightly that Jesus wasn't even able to drive as we started to work our way around the touching cities. About twenty minutes east of the DFW airport we saw a sign directing us towards Ector. I know my heart started pumping harder, I assume the same for the rest of the group. I had a hard time watching the country side searching for the doomsday village, the sight of two Ducati cycles trailing behind a snowplow was somehow hypnotizing and the village was all I could think about. The closer we got to our destination the fancier the cars stopped on the road seemed to get. Whether that was because of the expense of living in the village or there was some warning residents of Dallas, Turtle Creek had received that no one else had, was an unknown and would remain so.
We were still ten miles from Ector when we had to stop to give everyone a restroom break. Just like at breakfast Maria didn't want to let Jesus free but the women took her by her hands and took her into the concrete women's room to give him time on his own. "What am I going to do? I can't live with her attached to my side. Roger tell me what to do."
"I'm not an experienced parent, Jesus. I think you are going to have to start training her the way you would a pet with separation anxiety. You start moving a little further away every chance you can and be sure to praise her when you get together again."
"But she won't even let me get two inches away."
"You are going to need to tell her how life is now. Make a couple promises and fulfill them. She needs to learn to trust all of us not just you. Take one of the trucks with Rhoda as your passenger, seat her on Rhoda's lap, be as stern as you need to telling her that is where she is to stay while you are driving. Ask Rhoda to comfort her more than she and Karen have been trying. Hopefully she will soon understand that she is in a different family and that everyone will help protect her."
If I could do more than speak a few words to her I would have tried to help in the needed separation but she seemed more afraid of Tiffan and I than anyone else. When Tiffan was at my side Maria wouldn't even look in my direction if asked a question. We hadn't been affectionate with each other in public even though there had been times that I wanted to grab his hand or to kiss his cheeks. Jesus was still standing in the restroom enjoying the time away from Maria when Tiffan rushed in and passionately kissed me. He was followed by Maria who saw what we were doing and ran back out of the restroom.
"Well, I guess there is one way to get her to leave you alone."
"Stop it." Tiffan had pushed me up to the sinks and was unfastening my shorts.
"What? Kissing or letting Tiffan go down on me?"
"Both. What if she comes back?"
"Then I guess she'll be getting an education she seems to have missed at home." Tiffan had my cock out , stroking it with one hand and playing with my balls with the other. "Jesus, Tiffan will share my balls with you."
He had been greedily staring at me even while worrying about Maria. I wasn't going to let Tiffan take it any further but the idea struck me that Jesus and I hadn't had any time together since Henry had fucked him, other than one night. He walked over to stand beside us, trying to position himself so Maria wouldn't see anything if she returned. I didn't think she would, I heard Rhoda outside trying to explain to her in English that we were in a building for boys and the one she had been in with Karen was for girls.
I couldn't resist. "Rhoda, it's Muchachas for girls and Muchachos for boys. O boys, A girls. Okay."
When she responded I pushed Jesus down by the shoulders, it was only a light push because I felt a pain in my side as soon as I exerted any pressure. That was all it took. Tiffan didn't let him get down before him. I'd had double-mouth blow jobs before but I think they were both trying to prove something to me and each other as they licked and sucked my cock and balls. None of us had done anything since two nights before so I was soon feeding both boys a full hot load. They had surprised me and jacked each other's dicks while sucking me and when they tasted the cum filling their mouths shot all over the floor.
They remained on their knees, mouths open like baby birds.
"Sorry guys, I don't have any piss to give you, you're too late." The look on their faces almost matched, I had a difficult time believing they were so sad at not getting a drink of my piss. Still they massaged my taint and balls to get the last few drops of cum before heading out of the restroom.
"Why are you still standing in here. We're ready to leave."
"Those guys know I'm not supposed to lean over that far. They dropped my pants on the floor before sucking me off and ran out of here like two spoiled brats." I was surprised Henry was standing there looking at me without my shorts and not doing any more than asking why I was still in the restroom.
"Hell, everyone other than Maria has already seen what I have, I guess walking out without the shorts is no big deal." It really wasn't other than the fact I wasn't sure about exposing my self to another child. It wasn't like at home where the parents had a good idea what they would be seeing when they took the kids for a walk through the CO Zone most of the time the kids were naked by they had gone a half dozen blocks.
"Move over and I'll get the shorts." Was he playing games? I knew he had already seen everything Jesus had to offer and had gone back for more, was getting close to my cock that repulsive to him? I would have to ask Jesus if Henry had only gone for his ass and not touched his dick. Why would he need to see stare at I had hanging if he was supposedly hetero? If I moved for him to pick them up I would have to hold the shorts in front of me but he could help me pull them up where I was without touching me and why would he be afraid of that since he had already been in a man.
"Just help me pull them up or send Jesus in to help me." I couldn't believe how angry he was making me. Between the disability and what ever it was he was displaying I was coming to a full boil, fast.
"Fuck you. You can just stay here." The conversation that morning about someone else taking over hadn't gone the way Henry wanted but I doubted that any of the others would want to desert me unless he had already sent them ahead and drove off with his passengers without saying what he was doing. I realized too late that was exactly what he was doing. Had Tiffan and Jesus been in on the plan? Was my pistol still in my shorts?
I found a push broom in the women's room. I hooked my shorts on the head of the broom and after a half hour of attempting to get the shorts up my legs I was pulling them up by the crotch, the right side hanging low with the weight of the pistol. I might be alone, without food and on foot but I wasn't going to be defenseless. I know that was an odd consideration with as few people as I had met but the shooters in Midland had made me think there could be aggressive hunters around any corner, I was in Texas so no crazy moose. After looking at a framed map outside the men's room I decided that attempting to follow the roads was going to take me longer than going over the fields.
There weren't many hillocks or hills for me to climb, that was good since the abdominal wound hurt every time I started to climb even the slightest up hill incline. I was able to circle around many of the hills but there were ridges that might have taken me days to circumvent so I worked my way up them as slowly as I needed to walk without causing myself pain, the last thing I needed out there on my own was to rip the stitches. It was September but if you have ever been in Texas in September you know that the temperature averages in the high nineties with a chance of showers almost every day.
The first evening I found a farm house that could have been listed in an architectural magazine as one of the finest homes in America. There was any and everything I needed, including an emergency generator with an extra can of fuel sitting by the back door. By the time I had finished cooking a meal for myself I was tired enough to collapse. I didn't even stop to think how far I might be off the best route or how far I still needed to walk. Sometime during the night I woke to the sound of wolves howling, how had a breed of animals that was mostly in isolated spots of the country come so far? Even if they were Mexican Gray Wolves it was quite a distance for them to roam. The owner of the house must have been interested in zoology because one of the books on the shelf over the kitchen table was about animals thought to be extinct in Texas that had once roamed freely. I read about two species of wolf that had been wide-spread but unless a genetic study then happening in Galveston proved to be true were both completely extinct.
No one had been at the house on the day of the event, there were no cars, trucks or piles of ash. I would try to drive them if there had been anything. When I started searching the only thing I found that would run was an older tractor with wide front wheels. I didn't know how well it would do on the roads, but I filled the seat with pillows I found in the house, one of which had a hand stitched picture of the White House I was hoping that would be enough cushioning. I looked back at the house as I started across the fields and convince myself that if I didn't find the doomsday village I would return with my twins to live in unexpected luxury.
I remembered the roads we were supposed to be following to Ector, I had been supremely lucky and stayed the night less than a thousand yards from where the final road turned off the blacktop I had started to follow when I pulled from the driveway. The tractor took me around the few wrecks and was easy to take around the single vehicles on the road. I didn't think I was making very good time, but it was definitely easier than walking and not as painful. I'd had coffee and some rolls from the freezer. Less than two hours from the house I needed a pit stop. I was pulling to the top of a hill, I thought it would be a good place to stop and pulled off the road.
As I looked out over the corn and hay fields I saw an area that seemed to be glowing and not as green as the fields. Sure that I had found the doomsday village I drove slowly over the fields so I didn't bounce around too much and could keep it in sight. It didn't take more than another ten minutes until I was approaching what I had seen, the sign told me I was in the right place but the gates were locked with chains high and low. I drove the tractor around the chain-link perimeter finding no way in. When I reached the original gate I knew what I had to do, I had partially prepared when I left the farm, I didn't know what was coming so I had picked up a heavy chain with hooks on both ends, something that a farmer might have used to drag trees or a vehicle that was stuck. It had taken me time to wrap it around the hitch of the tractor since I was not to be lifting more than ten pounds, we had carried one in the V-shaped snow plow and had used it to move some vehicles that the truck couldn't push off the road.
If I hadn't still been hoping to find survivors, the time I spent unwrapping the chain and hooking it to the gates and tractor would have felt useless. I knew I wasn't going to be able to reach the higher set of chains that were holding the gate shut but if the tractor had the power I might be able to dislodge the gates completely It had probably been twenty years since I had tried to pull anything with a tractor, my great-grandfather allowed me to drive a tractor much like the one I was on but always said other than a wagon with wheels it wasn't good enough to pull much else.
Rather than the double or triple hinges you would expect on that type of gate they had been hung with a hinge that went from the top of the gate to the bottom like a piano. That was going to making doing more than bending the gate extremely difficult but I couldn't see a reason not to try it if I wanted to reach any survivors. Other than getting the gate to bulge at the bottom the tractor did nothing. I looked around and it hit me that I was being stupid, the way the builder of the fence wanted everyone to be. I unhooked the chain from the gate dragged it down a couple sections of fencing hooked up to the fence itself and with the tractor fully revved took a run and felt the fence give way. It took me two more runs but I managed to pull the fence away enough to drive the tractor through the hole I made.
Ector Survival Village was deserted. I walked through every house, apartment and the huge common area before stopping the search for the night. I was trying to decide what house to use when I heard a truck at the gate that sounded like the Monster truck we had been using. I debated taking up a seat in the common area and waiting for whoever was outside but was hoping and eager to see Jesus and Tiffan.
"Hey man you aren't wearing any clothes." Leave it to Jesus to state the obvious. I had been enjoying the freedom of being alone for the previous few hours having been certain there was no one in the village to startle. I was so comfortable that I hadn't thought about it when I walked from the common area through the block long entryway and stepped out under the yellow sky.
""Getting ready for you."
"You're ready to fuck?"
"No, its going to have to be another blow job unless we stay the night and you ride me." I knew that I always had to respond to his desire for sex in some way or he would keep coming until he got what he wanted even if I wasn't ready when he wanted it.
"How did you get here first? You didn't have a vehicle to drive. Henry had us in Ector last night and sent us in four directions looking for the village this morning after breakfast. He had made us pledge to support him and not run off on our own."
"He believed you after you all said you would support me and then deserted me to follow him?" Much like a man being trusted by a woman he had been cheating with not to cheat if they were to get married.
"I'll tell you about it while you give me a tour. Is this going to be our home?"
"When we made the next stop after you gave me the advice about trying to separate from Maria little by little Henry pulled a pistol on Tiffan and I, saying that he had left you behind and that he was in charge. Neither of us was too happy so he didn't let us drive for the rest of the day, Tiffan was stuffed in the back of the Monster with the diapers and I was made to ride with Henry, Karen and Rhoda drove the other two vehicles. I guess that is why he had been training Rhoda how to drive the plow truck, waiting for an opportunity to sneak away for the group.
"We didn't think we would ever see you again. After all we had to drive for hours to make it to Ector and Henry had said he left you in the restroom unable to walk."
"Ass-wipe."
"Karen and Rhoda begged us not to leave on our own, they were afraid what might happen to your boys if we did. Tiffan didn't want to stay with the group if Henry was in charge. He tried to talk me into returning to Tulsa, although the Doctor was hard on him he knew there were people and food there."
"Last night we stood watch over the door at a house in the center of town after hearing los lobos howling. They scared Maria so she was hanging on my side again. She finally slept with her head on my lap."
"How are my boys?" It was the first chance I had to inquire about what was becoming the most important part of my life.
"Rhoda wouldn't let anything happen to them, they are eating and shitting. Ha ha, they are fine but they were not as easy to settle down after their first bottle as usual, do you think they know you aren't there?"
"It is likely, we were bonding tight." It made me smile to think they knew enough to miss me. Wasn't that the way it was supposed to be?
"There weren't any people here?"
"No one. Everything was closed up behind the fence and gate you saw out there."
"Who tore the fence open?"
"I used that little tractor."
"What happened to you? I thought you didn't believe in ruining things." I knew it was a fake frown but I thought I should answer.
"I tried to pull the gate open but the chains were too heavy for that pint sized tractor to break. Tearing the fence open was the only way I could think of to get in here. We should fix it if we decide this is where we're staying, the wolves were not far away last night. The fence might be the best way to keep them at a distance.
Jesus was thinking about sex more than wolves, he would reach down to play with my cock as we entered every new building, in some of them he never let go until I tried moving away from him to open another door. The ads that had said the homes and common areas would be underground were mostly correct, the houses were all two or three stories with the top story three-quarters hidden by soil and greenery. The builders hadn't planned for the event that had occurred and had built in barred slot windows to allow for some daylight. If there had been any occupants they would have died just like everyone else. I looked a second time as I showed Jesus the complex not seeing any of the piles of ash prevalent everywhere else we had been.
"Roger, are you wanting to stay here? There is everything you promised but is the area protected the way it needs to be? Or can we do something that would give us protection from another attack like the one that left us like this?" It was a question I had been asking myself, what was it going to take to be protected while here?
"I haven't had much time to look that closely, Jesus, but the covering over the common area says it was made with a 40% lead compound. I don't know if that would be enough to protect anyone but it sounds better than the open sky or tile roof.
"I think we would have the same problem we would have anywhere else, without a warning only some of us would be in areas that are fully enclosed in a proper metal screening unless we start reinforcing the roofs and try to make the areas we plan on using in the short term fully enclosed, I don't know if that would include new flooring or if we could work on whatever covered us from the top and sides. If we stay there will be a lot of work and I really don't think we are a construction crew capable of doing it.
"You and I have worked construction."
"But my work was all in glass fitting.
"I don't even know where we could find the metal we would need." We settled into the common area after sharing a lite meal that Jesus had packed for himself that morning when he left the town.
"Why is the temperature in here so simpatico? While I was driving I thought I was going to burn up."
"Part of it has to do with being below ground level but I think the clear covering was made with the intent of blocking out heat and letting in only a certain amount of light. There also may be a power backup that is running a temperature control device, A/C or heat as necessary."
"So everything that uses power is working?" He didn't sound surprised.
"Everything I have checked. Even the swimming pool has the skimmer and pump running. That is a good thing, imagine the smell in here if it wasn't working. It doesn't smell like anyone ever smoked in here either."
"All of Ector had power, too. Karen thought that part of East Texas is powered by a nuclear plant that might still be running." That sounded dangerous, weren't nuclear plants normally manned day and night?
"Not smelling any smoke in here is rather pleasant."
"Are you asking if I have a cigarette?" Jesus was an occasional smoker, generally only after being fucked although I had seen him sneak a few if he was upset with someone. He would carry a pack, making it even harder for me to quit.
"I can wait. I wish my twins were old enough to enjoy this sight." Jesus and I had laid down on a spread that pulled out from under what looked to be a team bench on the side of a green field that hadn't been marked for any sport but that I assumed was either supposed to be football or soccer.
"Are you sure it isn't Tiffan you were wishing was here?" I had wondered how long it was going to be before the jealousy that I had seen between the pair would need to be addressed, The double blow job just before they disappeared had made me think they were going to work out an agreement that I could follow or ignore at my own risk. The question made me understand I was premature in my thinking.
"It would be nice to lay here with each of you with your heads tucked into my armpits, he is almost as pit crazy as you, Jesus. Did you get into Henry's pit while you were out exploring West Texas? I wanted him to remember that I wasn't the only one having sex with a second person.
"NO. He fucked me a couple times but wouldn't let me do anything else, he wasn't even willing to let me blow him."
"Was his fuck worth it?"
"Naw. He has a lot he could learn about fucking. You and Tiffan are both much better than him." Jesus had started playing with my cock again now that we were talking about sex, I had glanced down and seen that his dick was already hard.
"I wish I was healthy enough to give you a good fuck or two or three, but the wound is still healing and if I move too much still hurts. I should have brought the brace Karen lent me along but I didn't know I was going to be separated from you all."
"Does that mean you won't fuck me?" The disappointment in his face and voice almost made me laugh.
"Jesus. You can fuck yourself on my cock if you take it easy and don't act like I'm a bucking bronco, I can't stand too much bouncing but my cock would love to feel that tight ass all over again." I went from soft to completely hard just thinking about having him riding my cock right then.
"Maravilloso!" He had found some lube, most likely in his front pocket and had my cock lubed and his asshole greasy faster than I could have imagined. The were times he had wanted me to go slow and times when he wanted all eleven inches at once. That night he took an inch of the shaft, relaxed and sat the rest of the way down on my cock yelling about how great it felt. I wish I could have done more than stayed in one position, having Jesus ride me was great but I wanted to make him feel great, too. After all sex is a two way street, if it isn't you should just call it rape.
I guess it was a unreasonable insecurity. Five minutes before I shot a load in his ass he shot his across my belly and chest. I wasn't certain that all the lessons he had with Tony and I or Tiffan and I had really made an impression on Jesus but when he finally pulled off my cock he took it in his mouth and sucked me clean before moving up my body licking up his cum. I had been watching him do a proper cleanup with my hands behind my head. He took that as an invitation and dove into my pits greedily licking out the sweat of two days.
"Gracias mucho. Lo necesario, mucho." Truth be told I needed that too. I was very happy that Jesus was the first one I met, although if I had met Tiffan the scene would have played out much the same, just without the shouts of gratitude.
He gave me about fifteen minutes before he started sucking on my cock again. I had thought I was going to be going to sleep but as soon as he had me fully erect he sat on my cock again. The smile on his face was worth any of the discomfort he caused when his knee hit my side or he bounced too hard. I lay back comfortably watching him, I didn't know if I had ever been that eager to have as much cock, as I have, stuck in my ass. I was happy that Jesus and Tiffan both enjoyed the whole length unlike many of the pickups I had back home. Of course Luis had always wanted every inch and there were times when he begged for more, those were the times we satisfied him with a dildo.
We fell asleep on the quilt. Jesus rolled over during the night and pulled a second quilt over us. Someone had planned to sleep under the stars when they designed the dispenser for the quilts. I woke around six in the morning sure that there was another person in the vicinity. The lights had gone off automatically during the night so we were laying in the dark. I elbowed Jesus to wake him but all he would do was grunt and roll further away. My eyes were adjusting to the darkness but for a few minutes while I tried sitting up I couldn't see anything. Still I reached for my shorts that I had used as a pillow, the pistol that I had been carrying lay next to them within my easy reach. I was glad I hadn't had to stretch too far, I hadn't hurt myself enough to groan.
After a few minutes of searching from left to right and back and forth I saw a glimpse of gold. Then whatever was gone. A few minutes later twice the amount of gold showed up and I could tell that it was four gleaming eyes. I tried waking Jesus again. He rolled towards me and when I grabbed him by the tit hard sat up startled.
"I need you fully awake. We are being stalked by someone or something." I was trying to whisper to him.
"Do you have your pistol?"
"No, after I saw you I left it in the truck. I didn't think I would be needing to defend my self. Can you tell if it is un hombre?" The eyes moved to the side and I caught the faint image of a wolf slowly walking to our right and another standing still.
"It's two wolves. At least two. Take my pistol if you are awake." There was no fumbling as we exchanged the hand holding onto the pistol. The times we had practiced I had seen that Jesus was deadly at thirty yards or less, better than me. The wolves were well within that perimeter. He didn't even wait three seconds and let off a shot. There was a howl of pain and then all the golden eyes disappeared.
"Jesus, I hope you scared the one you didn't hit but I think we should take cover in one of the houses for the rest of the night. Can you tell if there are any more wolves nearby?"
"No. But, I agree. We should be behind a door."
"He had to help me off the ground. We tried to walk as close to back to back as we could but it was hard in the dark. I think it may have taken us fifteen or more minutes to find one of the doors leading to a house. I sank into the sofa, there were emergency lights in the corners that helped Jesus seal up the house and I felt secure once more. My past flashed before me, I hadn't been as scared of the bear as I had been seeing the two wolves pacing not twenty feet away.
"Do you want to find a bed?" He had bent over me and was kissing at my tits.
"Jesus. I don't think I want to move again." I was getting better and hurting quite a bit less than I had a week earlier but I knew that the less I moved around the faster the healing would happen.
"OK. I'll get you a cover and find a bed for myself." I would miss his warmth beside me but it was the smart thing to do, we both needed the rest.
"There is one dead wolf on the fifty yard line." What a way to wake in a strange house, but seeing Jesus smile I felt safe.
"That field isn't marked."
"It seemed like the exact center of the field." He seemed extremely proud of himself. I was grateful for his sure shooting and let him know that.
"Grateful enough to give me a good morning drink?"
"Sure, you know I always enjoy that." The house we picked didn't have any food so we needed to search the nearby houses before finding anything to eat.
"Jesus, are you staying or are you going to gather the others so they can come here?"
"What do you think I should do?"
"I have promised them this village since the start of their journey. I was not particularly pleased with any of you leaving me behind when Henry pulled that stunt but I will live up to my word and bring them to the doomsday village, then they can decide if they want to go north with Henry or stay here. I want to be with my boys again but I am going to let you go alone while I work at getting some of the houses ready for everyone." I didn't want a confrontation with Henry in Ector, if we were going to be face to face again in the village would be my choice.
"There are enough rooms in this house for the boys, Tiffan, you and I. Is it okay with you if we all live together?" I was glad to hear him include Tiffan but living under the same roof as the two of them?
"What are you going to do with Maria?"
"I'm hoping she sill stay with Rhoda in one house and Karen and Ginger stay in another. It still feels odd not to have Tony with us."
He left for the town and the rest of our group leaving me to think about the loss of the first man in the group that I had allowed to get beyond the physical. I still thought he would have made a great father.
I spent the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon getting food located in the three houses I hoped we could use as a small enclave while we decided how to protect ourselves from another attack. They were far enough from the entrance to make them defensible if our attackers were other humans. They were close enough to the open common area that we could have the children there in moments. I was proud of myself and the work I had done when I heard trucks pulling up to the other end of the entrance tunnel.
