Adam
Chapter 82
Maxieplus.
He walked me towards home, then he had to duck into the salon for a minute.
He grabbed a bun, thanked Trish and we left.
"I was still hungry."
"Eat up fatso." He groaned.
The film crew were still there, I had no idea why until I ran into Mick sitting at the kitchen table, Nat was cooking up a storm and the smells were luring me to eat more.
"We are just tying up some background shots Kasey, we have to make up five minutes of screen time so this week we do fillins."
"You know what you're doing Mick, is it for the jewellery"
"Yes, it's all finished when do you want us to send it to the networks?"
"In six months, it's too close to the main one to bring it out so soon, But start advertising it."
"Then we work on the movie?"
"Yes, get the scriptwriters onto it and start production as soon as possible, it will take some time to make."
"Already done, do you want to read it as it's written?"
"No, but I would like Adam to." He looked at me.
"Adam, this is important, only you knew Adele and if I look at it I will miss something important, get a copy of it each week and read it for me please." Mick was making notes.
"Done boss, now Natalie, how are your bangers and mash talents?" She laughed and said.
"A winner for sure, when do you want it?"
"Friday night lovely."
"Done boss." She cracks me up, and she's much happier now there is no pressure.
One or two members of the film crew stared at Kasey when he dropped his jeans, he had those bloody micro swimmers on and was going for a swim. Like a well-trained puppy, I followed him out the back, then I dropped my clothes and dived in with him.
Mum came out of her grandma's house and smiled, Kasey was insisting he dunks me at every turn. I could see Mick's crew looking at us through the back windows so waved them to come in for a dip. They didn't need me to ask twice, and I told them they could use it anytime they were here but they had to wear micro bathers. If they are going to perve on my husband then they have to give something back. I knew most of Mick's crew were gay, Kasey had made him hire them as they left the military, someone else he is looking after.
I agreed because gays have that certain flair, there will always be some glitter in Adele's life, and they were perfectly respectable, until they tried to dunk Kase. I caught more than one hand grabbing his ass. The screaming stopped when dad arrived he ordered them to behave themselves.
"Have some respect guys, there's women around, and Adam." He chuckled.
"Sorry dad," Kasey blushed, it was all in good fun, I rarely get jealous and the guys know I am his husband.
The film company had been lined up to do the movie, Kase wanted professionals and Mick found them for him. As I said before this is a different game to the other ones and everything has to be on point. Mick's men will still be working on Fred's story and whatever else Kasey has in mind for his string of documentaries. The build had been started and the old warehouses were scrubbed, restored, and concreted, at the moment the different floors have been steel reinforced and framed. The crowning glory will be the private penthouses across the top. They will suit the outside of the buildings but be super modern inside.
I was surrounded by military men for the next hour, and by the time I got out to greet my brother and son they had almost settled down, then the boys wanted to join them. The screaming started once again as they were lifted in the air and dunked. Natalie had made some pizzas for us and after the crew left we all ate as a family.
"Nona came in looking for you Adam, I worded her up and said everything is fine. She told me that she will send Luca here to get you sorted out, she thinks Kasey is not making you happy." She giggled.
"He would be mortified if he knew she spoke like that."
"She is concerned that's all, I had better ring her and put her mind at ease," Kasey said.
"Don't you go near that woman and leave her to me, not making me happy really?" I kissed him.
It was sleepover night at our place tonight, the boys had to go to bed early because there is a horse to ride and comic books to read. I always grab him a couple if I pass the newsagents. Joe was still being a little clingy and Kasey was reminding him that his place on the Banks board is only temporary and he's not to get it into his head it's permanent.
"I can bring my expertise to it."
"You could, but you would do better targeting the building company at the moment. You know, the one that you're really on the board of?"
"Do you want to hit the gym sometime?" Change the subject.
"That would be nice Joe, anytime you want I will be available, I know Kasey can out lift, outrun, and out-pushup him. I wondered if Joe just liked the show he gave.
"I will set it up then" He gets something out of it after all.
I will speak to Trish at some stage, maybe Joey didn't have that many friends and comes across as a little bit needy sometimes.
We undressed and snuggled in, Kasey was gently kissing me and thanking me for helping him.
"You have always calmed me down, I look into your eyes and I completely relax. I need to ask you something very important."
"It's the same with me Kasey, I calm down when I am with you always. Now what are you going to hit me with?"
"I don't want to interfere in your work, but, will you take over the executive producer job?"
"I'm not trained for that."
"Neither am I, my first job was to secure the money, but from there on I am out of my depth. I have learned a lot from reading, but I need you to work with the producer and help cast the actors and oversee the actual story. I can do the distribution with Mick, but I think only you can find the perfect cast for the movie. You don't need any big names, just Chloe of course, and I would like dad to play Fred Banks he is awesome in the fed building films. I also want Gloria in it, she is stunning on screen. But I will leave it up to you."
"Do you think I could do that job?"
"I know you can do it Adam, and to be honest if I did it you would be hounding me to change it anyway."
"If it helps you then I will do it, the casting director has a nice tone about it."
"No, executive director you have the last say in how the story is told, and the casting. There's something else."
"What now" I turned in waiting for the real reason for this conversation.
"I want, no I insist when the time comes you play her hairdresser and confidant."
"I'm not trained."
"You did well in the series, and I imagine your role would be small. More like a walk-in walk-off part." I stared at him then moved my hand to his junk, yes it was happy to let me hold it.
"You are such a liar Kasey Casey." He swallowed.
"I thought about you telling the story and looking at Adele's life through your eyes. That would mean you would be the leading man almost. But I know that's not what you want, so if you're in charge you get to say exactly what you will do, and what you won't do. If I'm in charge then I would have you in all the scenes."
"I can do that?"
"Yes, it makes sense. Can we talk more tomorrow I think I'm going to explode."
"Not yet you aren't, and yes we will talk more." It seems I have been lured into accepting yet another job, and he's very good at manipulating me, all he had to do was place his junk in my hands. It took me ages to get to sleep, Kasey was completely relaxed and gently breathing in my ear. I had already picked out the main characters, and I even had a role for Georgio who will be the chauffeur. I can't figure out how to place Trish and Joey into it, they would both look awesome on screen, especially Joey. His dark look with his wavy long black hair lends his looks to playing a sexy half-naked gardener.
I wasn't tired when I woke up early. I was feeling quite relieved he had asked me, it shows he doesn't want to head everything and is learning to trust people. He moaned when I moved to get out of bed, so I laid back down and played with his hair.
"I love the way you do that Adam with an a."
"I love doing it Kasey with a k."
"Adam, you will still be working in the salon, that's a given. But you will be overseeing the production, Mick knows things, talk to him then make a list."
"I already have half the cast done."
"You have?"
"Of course I have."
"That's my boy, can you move down the bed a bit?"
"It will be all my pleasure."
"No it will be mine" He moaned then moved onto his back. Sam and Billy were playing with their cars on the staircase again, I walked past and kissed them.
"Breakfast boys, have you cleaned your teeth?"
"Yes, daddy."
"Well clean those cars up someone will trip on them."
"Daddy, is papa awake?"
"Yes, son." They screamed and ran for the bedroom, the last time I saw Kasey he was wiping himself down, I hope he has his underwear on by now. I picked the little cars up and took them out the back with me. I left them on the table Sam can take them upstairs when he goes to change for school.
Kasey has his first appointment with that psych today, he is looking forward to it. He's interested in how the mind plays tricks and will be telling his story to him word for word. I think that it's the telling that eases the problem, and the more you say it out loud, the better you feel, but what would I know, I'm only a simple hairdresser. Sam and Billy were hungry this morning, they stood and watched mum do their eggs and I overheard Billy say.
"We should get Nat to give us cooking lessons Sam."
"What a good idea Billy."
They collected their eggs on toast and sat at the table talking they have so much to talk about nowadays. I had noticed that less and less Billy uses his phone to call former schoolmates, I suppose that's a good thing.
Dad arrived and grabbed the toast and bacon mum had prepared for him, then I took over doing Kasey's and mine. He will want a big breakfast today, he's got lots to do. He arrived as soon as I filled his plate, freshly showered and shaved. I must get back to shaving him again he misses bits and I like him to be well-groomed all the time.
"You had better settle down on the fats dad."
"Why son?"
"If you're going to play Fred Banks in the movie, you will need to watch your weight." He nearly choked.
"Don't do that to me son, I haven't got the time."
"Then we will make the time." I grinned.
"Kasey, help?" He said.
"Not my gig anymore, Adam is in charge of the casting."
"He's what?"
"Executive director, so he gets to cast the movie."
"He's barking up the wrong tree here, a silent walk around in the lofts is one thing, for a speaking role you need the professionals."
"Point taken dad, you had better go and see a speech therapist then." I screamed laughing.
"Leave your father alone Adam."
"Just having some morning banter." I smiled.
"Can we eat our breakfast without the banter?"
"Of course mum, how do you feel about taking the housekeeper's role?"
"Oh you are going to get it now son."
"No banter mum, it was a simple question."
"No, so end of, or else." She shoved some toast into her mouth and I shut up.
"Adam, maybe you had better slow down a bit, watch people before you offer them parts, be cautious, and size up their worth and see what they can contribute to the movie," Kasey said to me later on as we dressed for work.
"Just friendly banter Kasey, by the way, do I get paid for this gig?"
"You will be paid, but I urge you to be discerning and very selective. One miss step with casting can ruin a film."
"I will Kasey, I was just baiting dad, but he is perfect for the role."
"He's not trained."
"He can be trained."
"I agree with you, but your biggest hurdle is to convince him he can do it."
"I think I can do that, let me work on it some more"
"Make a list Adam then show me, but don't ignore the producer's suggestions he will know what he's talking about."
"I will talk to him when the time comes."
"Now I have a very important appointment in an hour, I want to be on time so can I come in for lunch after?"
"Yes I'll order a couple of meat pies is that okay?'
"Get me two."
"Done, and don't think I don't know you have already asked dad, you thought I would have had a better chance did'nt you?"
"Yes." He laughed his way down the stairs, it was good to hear.
He dropped me off first and reminded me he would be back for lunch. I kissed him for good luck and he straightened up and sort of marched into the fed building, he will never lose that military training.
My team were happy to see me, and Trish had some clients lined up. We talked about the wedding and when she and Joe are going away for a week or two. She told me they weren't going anywhere without us, and now Joe had a new job, he wanted to impress Kasey. I said the next time we go to the cabin it will only be the five of us.
"Good luck leaving Billy behind."
"I forgot, eight of us, some things never change." I grinned, and she rolled her eyes.
"Your first clients here." I looked over and Aunty Mary was sitting quietly on a sofa waiting for me.
"Aunty Mary how good it is to see you again."
"And you also Adam, have you got time to sort my hair out?"
"I have, come this way and I will get Lynnie to start on you. Have you anything special to go to?"
"Yes Adam, those lovely children of mine have bought two tickets for us to go to the Gold Coast for a week's holiday. They shouldn't waste all their money on us, they should be saving."
"What is the occasion?"
"Our wedding anniversary Adam, a bus ride and a week at the Casino."
"Wow, you will love it there. But a word of warning don't sit at the machines all night you will leave with an empty purse." She giggled.
"I only ever play five dollars Adam, if I lose that, then I go and sit to watch the crowd."
"Very exciting for you, are you going to do any tours?"
"Yes Mal is working on that today, he is booking online. I don't know how he does it, but he said it works." I don't think Aunty Mary knows anything about the internet.
"That beautiful friend of yours who is on the TV called in a few weeks ago, she is such a lovely girl. She was telling me she will be making a movie soon, I will get Mal to book some tickets on his line."
"I am sure Chloe will send you some Aunty Mary."
"She shouldn't waste her money like that, we can afford a night out."
"She will do it anyway because she loves you."
"Well I feel very blessed Adam, the wedding was beautiful. Trisha is a very lucky young lady."
"She is, and her day was made even more special that you and Mal were there. It was a great day for everyone."
I shaped her hair the way she liked it, then got the drier out and brush dried it into her usual style, the hairspray was next and she beamed.
"It looks different every time I get it done, thank you, Adam, very much."
It doesn't look different, she gets the same style every time she drops in.
My next client was a private wanting a better look, he wanted someone more professional to do it, the ten-dollar jobs just don't work for him. I found out he was from money, and is used to the better things in life. His father had threatened to cut him off if he didn't find a job, so he joined the army.
"That's a bit extreme."
"He's a big supplier for the military and I told him I would be going undercover for him."
I laughed.
"He doesn't know I've always been attracted to the military, so we both get what we want."
It was funny, even more funnier when he said his dad supplies the bathroom products along with a mountain of condoms.
I figured he was straight, but we did have a good laugh. I sent Lynnie over the road to get some pies, Kasey should be here soon.
I waited in the tea room and he was a no show, I tried to ring him but no answer. When Trish arrived for lunch with Joe I asked him if he had seen him.
He said as far as he knew he had kept that appointment but had no idea what had happened to him. I started to worry so I walked into the fed building. I found the department he had to go to and then asked the guy at reception if Kasey had been there.
'He's still in there Adam."
"What?"
"He turned up at ten and has been in there ever since. between you and me I was getting worried but then I heard them laughing." At the very moment, I heard Kasey's laugh so I took a leap of faith and opened the door. There they were laughing at each other.
"Adam?"
"I thought you were meeting me for lunch?"
"God, what time is it Bill?"
"One, Kase."
"Sorry, I got a little carried away."
"A little, we have been discussing mental issues for the past three hours. You must be Adam I'm Kasey's therapist Bill."
"Pleased to meet you Bill, are you nearly finished?"
"I could talk to this guy all day Adam, but yes I have another client coming in, so Kasey, you have to go. I will see you next week and bring that book with you."
"You got it Bill, see you then. Did you get the pies?"
"Yes Kasey, that's if the boys haven't eaten them."
"Well lead the way my gorgeous husband."
I did and I gave him a great ass dance while I did.
"So why so long?"
"I talked to him about Sam and other things that happened for two hours, then I started telling him how I am changing things in my life. Fred Banks did pretty much the same, so now he wants to read the book, and then we got onto the workings of the brain. I knew a bit about that and we argued over some points. I think he's going to be good for me Adam. I know I feel a lot better inside."
"Good, now eat your lunch, you need food. Natalie is doing bangers and mash tonight too."
"Wow I am blessed." Shades of Aunty Mary.
He wanted to go home after lunch, I wanted to look at the new offices. He pestered me until I said I would go with him and when we passed Trish she said.
"I know cancel all your appointments." We laughed all the way home, he was walking backwards some of the way because he wanted to talk to me face to face. But he stepped off the footpath so I grabbed him and turned him around. The front door was opened and no film crew today, so we bolted upstairs and he threw me on the bed.
"Now where were we." He grinned.
I could smell it before I hit the bottom stairs, Nat was cooking up a storm in the kitchen and mum was helping her.
"Rich onion gravy okay with you Adam?"
"Yum, sure is Nat, it smells delicious."
"It will be about an hour, so no snacking."
"Did the guys turn up today?"
"No Adam, they were doing something in the lofts."
"How did Kasey go?"
"When I picked him up he was laughing with his therapist, and he didn't shut up all the way home."
"I guess trusting his staff has changed him a bit."
"Yes mum, he did say it all got on top of him and he feels so much better letting his people do what they do best." I winked at Nat.
"I have to speak to him about taps."
"Show me,"
She took a catalogue out and I looked through the tapware, in my mind, I was imagining them with the tiles and mirrors.
"That set Nat, perfect for the look we want."
"I'll get onto ordering them, thank you Adam."
"You're welcome."
"I have to get onto organising the shops, we aren't moving there it's too close to the build and we do excellent business where we are."
"Cindy is in the same boat Adam, she thinks pretty much the same. Will he get mad if she doesn't accept his offer?"
"Not at all, and it's early days yet there's plenty of time."
"Maybe a small supermarket would be handy for the residents," Mum said.
"You're right, some of them are unique, I might look into it when I get to see the plans of the shops. They will be at the fed building somewhere."
"Has he moved everything there?"
"Yes mum, the office here will be used for phone calls and private meetings."
"Good." She smiled. Kasey came in and the first thing he did was look in the oven.
"Smells wonderful Nat another one of your triumphs"
"A version of an old classic Kasey, can I show you the taps for the bathrooms."
"Sure." She opened the catalogue and pointed. He flipped a few pages then went back to them and said.
"What did Adam say?"
"Order them, they are perfect." She grinned.
"Do it."
He made a coffee and then sat on the big kitchen island bench.
"Now mum, I want you to take a day trip down to the Gold Coast one day. I have a list of small exclusive shopping centres I want you to call into on the way. All you need to do is look at how they are set up and what kind of shops are in them."
"You were listening to our conversation weren't you Kasey?" She smiled.
"Yes, there will be eight shops and depending on what footage the supermarket would need there could be only six. Look at Oasis and Europa I like the look of their shops, and we need a bread shop maybe a Sushi bar." He laughed.
"I will take the boys with me."
"Thank you, there's plenty of time but I want Joe to lock them in so we aren't chasing our asses at the last minute."
"Joe?" I lifted my eyebrows, I could have done with a nice day at the Gold Coast beach.
"Executive producer, actor, picker of fine mirrors and tap ware, have you forgotten your roles already?" He looked at me.
"No, I just thought I would go with mum for the day." I looked at her.
"You are most welcome to come son. I value your opinion."
"Is that what you wanted Kasey?" Nat said laughing.
"Yes. Now we get the pool to ourselves before the kids get home, hurry up Adam." I saluted him and dropped my jeans.
We dived in and swam around for a few minutes then sat on the bottom step.
"It's hard to know what mum can do Adam, I thought she might like to be involved but I want your eye on it all too."
"I guessed that, she is good at a lot of things Kasey, you should put her in charge of these shops she has seen a few in her lifetime."
"That's what I want to hear, and Adam I only want to see the final plans, I will get the guys to do you and mum a copy of what I envisaged."
Later on, when Nat placed the big roaster of bangers in a dark rich gravy on the table with a big bowl of peas and a ton of mashed potato, I got the chance to talk to mum.
"He doesn't know what to do with you."
"I gathered that son, I can do pretty much anything, but I would much rather look after the boys. I am good at that."
"So you don't feel left out mum?"
"Not at all son, and someone has to look after them, and it's all my pleasure."
"I will talk to him, but we will still do that beach run, it will be fun."
The food was amazing and Nat took some for Cindy's dinner. She said her good nights and went home, but not before she wrote down the recipe for mum and Trish. Later on, after we tucked Sam into bed, he pulled me in to whisper to me. He likes to do that when he wants to tell me something secretly.
"I was told to tell you what I said at the meeting, he said I had to start sharing my memories with someone. So I am starting with you Adam,"
"You don't have to Kasey, I understand more than you know."
"When I found Sam he was covered in blood, he wasn't hurt just terrified I was going to harm him. He was hiding in the bushes but not doing a good job of it because I could hear him sniffling. He was holding a gun and if I hadn't spoken softly to him he would have tried to shoot me. That gun, I kept in the safe downstairs. I don't know why I held onto it but I thought one day I would throw it into the ocean when I felt Sam was safe again, but I never did."
"He's a very brave little kid, so much has happened to him in his short life." I stroked Kase's face.
"He trusted me because he had befriended the prisoners and I had much the same uniform on. I coaxed him to come with me, and the rest is history."
"I sort of knew there would be more to the story baby, it's all over now and Evans will get rid of the gun. Has he spoken to you about it since?"
"No, he seems to have forgotten the ordeal, but it was pandemonium that night and we had other kids to rescue as well, but he stuck like glue to my side. It was like I was his family and he felt safe with me. Adam. I was no one, and to be truthful, I was just as terrified as him. I kept thinking about you and how I had placed myself there without thinking anything about how you would feel if I died. That frightened me the most when it dawned on me what I had done. I talked about you with Sam a lot, and by the time we got to your hotel, he was smiling because he wanted to meet this wonderful person I had told him about. I had been building up a better picture of a better life for him. So he loved you even before he met you, I worry he doesn't sleep that well, and many times I get up in the middle of the night just to watch him."
"You are waiting for his nightmares to return, your quick action saved him from the camp, and from the bad man he saw at the cabin. He knows you are his protector, so I don't think it's Sam you should be worried about, it's you and your nightmares. I haven't got the answers but I do know if it hadn't happened, if you had stayed at home, we wouldn't have Sam in our lives. The first day I met you at the salon I saw something in your eyes. I remember thinking at the time that you were in the wrong job. Because you were in the bomb disposal squad. There's nothing more dangerous than to take on that role in the military, you joined them because you felt you either would die fast or you die proving to your father he was wrong. Both ideas were bad, you changed when you met me. You became the person you are today, and along with saving the children you also saved my staff and me, so let's not talk about bravery again. The thing is Kasey if you hadn't thrown yourself in the deep end you would be dead now, you forced yourself to be military, like you are forcing yourself to be a top businessman. I can't force you to lose that inner strength, but I can help you."
He sighed and moved onto his back, moments later he was asleep and I didn't get a reply, I turned into him and held him tightly.
Through him, I have also learned to be brave. I was a blithering mess when we met, he had passed some of that courage onto me and I built on it, but I do know, he isn't that brave inside he's still a scared boy. His father needs to be bloody shot for doing that to him.
I finally slept well and didn't detect any movement from Kasey. In the morning when I opened my eyes he was staring at me.
"What happened did I dribble?' I made light of it.
"No Adam, I was going to tell you that I wasn't brave back then but after I met you I felt I could conquer the world, you made me brave." he kissed me.
"Do you think he can help you?"
"Yes, he and I think the same. I would like to get him involved with the vets."
"Then ask him."
"He said he doesn't see enough of them, and I wanted your opinion."
"If he makes you feel less guilty and you feel better within yourself go ahead, ask him to volunteer. If you still have doubts then really think about it but I doubt you will. I can see an improvement after just one session."
"Thank you." He kissed me, then he told me he liked talking to me, he gets a kick out of it. I rubbed my hand down his back and stopped on his tight ass.
"When are you and Joey going to the gym?"
"Soon."
"I might come with you." He started laughing.
"I can take the photos."
"That's my boy." He kissed me again then dry humped me.
"Oh and don't worry about mum she is very happy with what she already does, she said she is keeping busy with the kids and the house."
"I was just trying to include her."
"She knows that, but there's no need.
"Adam, are you up for a play?"
He didn't have to ask me twice.
"So what have you on today Kasey?" Dad was asking at breakfast.
"I'm going into work, sort out my office and check that the different departments are running smoothly. Your office is waiting for you when you need it. I thought you might like to use the one here or your new one, you have choices."
"Not likely son, mother would eat me alive if I shut myself in the one here. I will come to the fed building, it will just be like home to me."
"Your office is next to mine we can do lunch." Kasey laughed.
"That would be excellent son,"
"I want to go to the build at some stage to get a perspective of how it is being set up." I looked at Kase.
"We can go this afternoon Adam."
"I will cancel your appointments then." Trish smiled.
"You do that," I smirked.
She doesn't cancel them, she only gives me a few regulars and walk-ins. I have staff to do most of the work. I'm not lazy it's just that's the way it is nowadays.
"Don't forget my play daddy.
"Yes, next week and we all will be there to watch."
"Thank you daddy."
He's up to something, I will ask mum when she's finished her breakfast.
It turned out that the other parents were taking their kids out for ice cream after the play, and he and Billy do like their ice cream.
Kasey got a phone call and I overheard him say.
"Steff I think a games arcade will attract unsavoury clientele, but you're getting there." After a few minutes of back and forth, he hung up then he picked that book up and started reading.
"You have already decided on what's going on those docks haven't you?"
"Yes but don't tell Steff, he's nearly there."
