Adam
Chapter 73
Maxieplus
When we arrived back home Sam, Billy, and Mum were there. They had the best day and Billy was so awesome he sang beautifully so Sam said, they all got free pies and cakes for lunch and Sam even tried out his voice, which is good apparently.
The doorbell went and Jimmy let himself in, he hugged the kids and then he sat to have a coffee staring at me as he did.
"So what am I going to do with you Mr. Jimmy? You lured my husband to the house and made him fall in love with it, then you left him to convince me."
"Do you love it?"
"Of course I do, what's not to love."
"Then it's yours, well it's a part of the Banks trust so any outgoings will be paid by them. You will need a housekeeper, one that cooks changes linen, and maybe does the washing, the cleaners will still come in monthly."
"I don't know about sharing that home with others."
"You will need her or him. Kasey has to start having business dinners, the house is more suited to that sort of gathering. The filming will go on there, but it won't disrupt your lives too much" I looked around the apartment it was still my safe place and still beautiful. I snapped out of my funk and looked at Kase, it's time for Adam Sutton to move on.
"Okay, we will move in." Mum looked at me I handed over my phone.
"You are going to love it mum, look at the photos."
She looked, gasped, and almost screamed at the same time.
"I guess she loves it too." I smiled at Kasey.
"She will my Adam, Jimmy do you know any housekeepers?"
"No Kasey, but I believe they have them at the housekeeping shop." He laughed until the tears arrived. It has been hard for him to get me to accept what he has to give, and finally, the last piece of the jigsaw has been handed over, he can now fully relax."
"Thank you both, I will now be stepping down from the Banks trust, and I even may go on a long holiday to Europe. When you interview housekeepers make sure they are children friendly, that is important. They need to be able to cook and they need to do some housework, and the washing." He grinned at me.
"Did she have many cars, Jimmy?" Kasey asked.
"She had three, a Porsche, a Mercedes, and a Rolls Royce they are long gone but I know of a Mustang that will need a new home." He smiled.
"I can't take that, it's yours."
"I am lending it to you Lieutenant."
"I will look after it with my life."
"I know you will. It needs to be used occasionally and I can't do that from Europe."
"My cafe and the pizza shop, I will miss them the most." I suddenly realised.
"They will deliver Adam, I have spoken to the relevant managers, the pizza shop is closer to the house and Geoff from the cafe is on board, we are his best customers after all, but if we get a cook there probably won't be any need to get take away." Kasey grinned.
"You are right and thank you, Sam come here baby."
"Yes, Daddy." I pulled him onto my knees and I handed him my phone.
"Sam I want you to have a look at these photos, if you like this house then we might move in there."
"I like it here Daddy."
"It's got a big swimming pool." I smiled.
"Really Daddy, really a big one?" His eyes lit up.
"Yes son, look at the photos." I knew that would convince him.
"And we have to go shopping for another bigger grandpa couch son."
"Cool papa, can I pick the colour?"
"You sure can because you are very good at doing that." He grinned.
Billy had to have a look with him so he took it over to the couch, mum, I think, was still stunned by it all, she loves the vintage stuff and adores antiques.
'Pizza tonight Trish don't be late.' I sent her a message.
'Ok, same as usual.' was her answer.
When Jimmy went home to shower and change I sat with Mum and we went over some of the good times we had here, she also sowed a thought into my head.
"Why?"
"Why what mum?"
"Why is he doing this, the house would probably have been yours eventually, why the urgency?"
"I don't know mum, maybe because he's sick to death of looking after everything. I got to admit that Kasey does much of that work now."
"He is giving you the last of Adele and Fred's things, he's now going off on a long Euro trip. I will be blunt Adam, is Jimmy ill?"
I looked at her in shock, then remembered he hadn't looked that well in recent months, then it all hit me at once and the tears threatened to flow unhindered.
"Son please don't be sad, it's just I can't work out why the urgency. It's like he has been waiting for this moment to disappear from your lives." I looked at Kasey and said.
"What do you know, don't you dare lie to me."
"I don't know anything Adam, but I'm about to find out. It never occurred to me that he may be ill." We were talking in hushed tones I didn't want the kids to hear us.
He took his phone out to the balcony and called someone.
"Mum I never even thought that he may be saying goodbye."
"I'm sorry son, it's just that I feel uneasy about all this, that's all. Don't upset yourself about it, it's probably nothing."
Kasey came back and smiled.
"All is well Adam, he just wants to do things he's been unable to do for all those years. Walsham reassured me that Jimmy was in good health and there were no underlying issues in his life. He said that the house was his last tie with Adele and since the museums are almost organized, you and I had taken a burden off his back, and with Sam, it's all guaranteed to continue."
"Good, you didn't detect any lies?"
"No Adam you know me I can smell a lie from ten paces." He got up and rummaged through the kitchen drawer then handed me two sets of keys.
"These are for Trish and Joe, yours are in your bedside drawer with a bear dangling from it." He grinned.
"So Sam knew about the house?"
"No, I just thought you might like a bear also because I was buying one for Sam's key the other day."
"He has Chloe's."
"Now he has two, well three, I went overboard." He laughed.
Dad came home and we all looked at the pizza menu, they said they would stay the night then Mum showed him the photos. Joe and Trish came by and they placed their orders, I gave her the phone and said to look at the photos we took today. I noticed Sam and Billy were talking quietly I believe they are planning swimming sleepovers.
"Adam this is beautiful, I had no idea she lived in that house."
"You know it?"
"Yes, it's in Joe's street up the posh end, there's some pretty big properties up there."
"Well, how would you like to live there?"
"What?"
"There's a separate apartment in the house, two bedrooms updated kitchen all that."
"You are serious aren't you?"
"Rent free, all utilities paid for through the trust and Joe?"
"Yes, Adam." He smiled.
"We need a sexy pool boy, you're him, that pool is huge." Trish burst out laughing.
"I'll take the job." He laughed.
"What about Cody he has been very generous with us," Trish said.
"He gets free rent at the salons, I was thinking Anne Marko and James would take your apartment."
"They would love it here."
"Same contract as you, but no parties."
"They don't have them anyway, they go out." She giggled.
"I will ring Cody later and ask him, if not they can take Evas when she moves."
"And this one?"
"I would like to keep it empty, my parents may want to use it."
Dad's eyes lit up and he looked at Mum. She had no idea what I had in store for her.
"I have a home already."
"It's close to work, my tenure is up in a few months and I wouldn't mind living in the city, no grass to mow." He laughed.
Jimmy arrived back and the kids jumped him, they were talking to him about the new house and the big pool.
He listened for a few minutes then sat with us. passing a key ring over to Kasey he said.
"Look after this for me, the keys will get you into the garage downstairs, use the cover when you settle it, and this is the card of a garage that specialises in them." Kasey took the keys.
"I will look after it until you get back."
"I will still drive it occasionally, but it's best it goes to your new home so you can have some fun in it too."
"So this big trip you're going to do is to rest and regroup?" I had to ask.
"Yes Adam, I have many friends throughout Europe I have been ignoring lately and I want to mend some old wounds."
"Like what?" Kasey asked.
"There is a very special person in France I need to visit, he has been waiting for me to call by."
"Okay, so you're not sick and will come back home."
"Whatever gave you that idea Kasey, no, I'm as fit as a fiddle. I feel a kind of relief at the moment and I want to breathe again without the worry of the trust. I have felt a bit off these past months but that's just the stress of making sure everything is put right with Adele's property "
"You will still have to vote at the meetings." Kase smiled at him.
"I am making the necessary arrangements now, you will be told at the next meeting. Have you ordered the pizzas yet, I'm hungry?"
"On their way Jim, Trish give me a hand with the plates."
"We have to work out a date to move, I think we will get some movers in Adam, you had better write down what you're taking." Kasey is thinking ahead.
"My things, the statues, mostly personal items Kase, the furniture can stay here and we need to pack up all of Sams's room."
"Well there's no need to take anything, the beds at the house are all nearly brand new, there are those large display cases on either side of the dining room fireplace for your trinkets, the linen cupboards are full of the best bedding in the world."
"What a headache," Mum said.
"If you want to store anything here use the lock-up garage, it's dry."
"So when do you think we will move Kasey?"
"Two weeks at the latest, we can organise Joe and Trisha's move at the same time."
"Cool, are we going to move in my lovely?"
"Anything for you Joey." I nearly barfed.
I know my man, and if the truth be told he's already hired moving men to do it in one day. Trish can help me pack the statues up I won't let anyone else touch them, and Evans's handbag, that was a very special present, I don't want damaged, it can ride with me in my car.
Joe was excited to go see the house so we made a date to go there after work tomorrow, it looks like Mum will miss out but we can go anytime.
I was wrong again because after we ate they were all waiting at the front door ready to do an evening tour.
I handed the keys to Joe, and he said they would meet us there.
Mum went crazy, she had never seen this sort of opulence in one home, she touched everything sat on every chair, and deemed we would be very happy living there.
"You will be too mum." I smiled.
"Oh no you don't, I'm not looking for a housekeeper's job."
"The cleaners come in once a month all we have to do is change beds do washing and plan some meals. When Kasey starts having corporate dinners, we get a catering firm in but you will be the hostess."
"Living the high life, it's not for me."
"You have been doing that with Dad for years, you know how to work it. Mum come for a walk with us."
"Where are we going?"
"I want to show you something." I took her hand and Kasey and I walked her and Dad out to the summer house.
"What's this place it's lovely?"
"Three-bedroom summer house, big windows family room, full kitchen two bathrooms, Billy would love it here."
Joe and Trish followed, they looked at everything.
"It's so magical Adam, look at those fittings they are awesome, and the cornices." Trish was in awe.
"Do we get to come to these corporate dinners?"
"Of course you do Joey, you can even sit at the head of the table if you want," Kasey assured him.
"Wow!" I could hear the boys outside running around the pool so Jimmy went out and turned the lights on, the wows got a lot louder as the whole thing lit up, it was so magical. He then hit another switch and the four big Dolphins started spewing water out of their mouths. The exploration started immediately with them both, they had to know how it all worked so Jimmy explained some of it to them. Dad was looking at the lawns he said to me.
"Not a lot of garden beds son, a ride-on mower will do the job easy."
"We have a gardener Dad, don't stress."
He then looked at Mum, she was watching the boys play with Jimmy. When she collected herself she said.
"Does Sams's school have an art class darling?"
"Yes mum, he likes doing that sort of thing haven't you been listening?"
She cleared her throat and started walking back to the main house.
"I guess she's thinking about it, Dad."
"It's ideal for Billy, and if she was to be honest she has missed you so very much. The way I see it is we give it a try and if she doesn't settle in, we go back home."
"Good thinking dad, I love you so much." That brought tears to my eyes and I hugged my dad. Tomorrow I will go and get one of those garden stakes with a sign that says 'Grandma's house this way' and place it in the small garden bed.
Trish and Joe looked at the apartment a few more times and he and Kasey agreed that they both would use the big library but Kase gets the biggest chair. My eyes were tired of me rolling them.
The night was a late one, and I had to get some sleep although I was very excited about Anne's return in the morning. Kasey made love to me and I basked in the afterglow as he pulled me in.
"He knows," I whispered to him.
"He knows what baby?"
"Jimmy he knows about Johnny."
"What?"
"Didn't you hear what he said, he said he had to visit an old friend in France, he had left it too long." I turned to look at him.
"He meant Admiral Thomas, Dieter is over there training new naval officers. I think Jimmy and him have a thing going on."
"Probably just a good friendship."
"Who knows, I hope they do get together it would be wonderful." He smiled and then added.
"Are you still on board with the move?"
"Yes Kasey, I'm fine with it all. As I said it will be awesome for Sam to have more playroom."
"That house is huge."
"I believe there is a basement. Man cave Kasey." I smiled.
He giggled and pulled me closer then he started smelling my hair, oh no you don't mister, I need my sleep.
I did sleep well and I woke to more of Kasey's smiles and two ragamuffins that had crawled in during the night, I guess they are excited too. I threw back the blanket and headed for the bathroom then the kitchen, mum was up having her toast and coffee, so I took my mug and sat with her.
"Good morning mum."
"Good morning darling, did you sleep well?"
"Yes eventually, Kasey wanted to talk, and the kids crawled in around one, but I did sleep well."
"That house is wonderful son,"
"Mum, please don't think we said that you could move in to be our housekeeper, nothing will change from here to the house."
"I didn't think anything of it son, my main concern is my lady's groups and Billy's welfare."
"Well, it shouldn't be, you're our mum and Sam's gran so we are now calling the summer house, granny's cottage."
"Thank you son you sure do know how to build me up." She laughed.
"We don't need a helper mum, I can cook and we can order food deliveries. I can change the beds and that's about it, your time is your time completely. Maybe not, I will need some quiet time with you and Dad and Billy."
"Yes I have been thinking about that, I am sure if we did move in we can work something out."
"It's not urgent Mum, and I am being selfish. I want Billy there so I can watch him grow up too."
"I have classes to attend, some meetings, and I have just started my pottery classes."
"Time to stop being a suburban housewife then, you can come to the salon every week to have your hair sorted, do the Museums, go to the theatre. Join the local historical society, all the things you love are here in the city, you can also install a kiln in the workshop if you want."
"Billy?"
"He will be fine, Sam has plenty of mates that will like him too. Mum my old school isn't the only one that has plays and music classes, Sam is already keen to do more. We are holding him back because we want him to get a good education, but we also know he needs to have fun."
"Okay, son I will think more about it then. Can we go and have another look?"
"Of course you can anytime, I will give you a set of keys." I smiled.
"More coffee?"
"Yes please."
I could hear the kids and Kasey laughing, it won't be long before they wake Dad up. My early morning was like a family reunion, kids running everywhere men talking business, and mum and me smiling at each other.
When mum and dad left I dressed for work, I was very excited to welcome Anne back and I had changed twice, Kasey was watching me and smiled.
"She will be okay Adam don't smother her."
"I won't Kase, it's just I want to hug her and make sure she is okay to come back to work, seeing is believing Kase."
"I get it Adam we will drop you off on the way. Sam, are you ready for school?"
"Yes poppa." Billy will be having a day off school because mum and dad want to have a big talk to him about something.
We locked up and started our journey, me to work and Sam to school. I was dropped off at the bakery where I bought buns and a nice cake to welcome Anne back. A tap on the shoulder from Trish brought a smile to my face.
"Where's Joe?"
"Meeting Kasey and Sam on the way."
"It's exciting isn't it?"
"Yes, I can't wait to see her again."
"The move I meant."
"Oh that, yes I have no doubts that between you and Joe my life will never be dull. But I can't help but feel you have stuck us in the servant's quarters." She laughed.
"Never, you saw how big that place is, and I would never treat you like that, and you know that anyway my friend."
We opened the big door to the salon and we both leaned against it and took in the smells, welcome home Adam and Trish, it seemed to whisper in our ears.
"I have to ring Cody today, are you sure you want to move in?"
"Yes Adam, Joey's very keen, and even if it doesn't work out we can move back into your old apartment or Eva's"
"Or buy one of your own, you have the money."
"It will never be my money Adam, I'm only holding it for Joe."
"Have it your way then, but I doubt Joe sees it that way."
She helped me cut the cake and butter some buns.
"You know if you want to reorganise the apartment at the house you can, if you reorganise the library that will extend your living room some."
"I wouldn't dare touch it baby, and there's plenty of space for us."
"But what if you fall pregnant?"
"Hush your mouth, I am having too much fun with my man to worry about babies. do you know what they do to a woman's body?"
"Yes, I talked to Eva." I giggled.
"I'm here where is my station, how many clients have I got today?" Anne burst into the tea room with Marko and James.
"My god you look so beautiful." My arms went around her and the hugging started, and there were some tears, she had lost some weight and her hair was as beautiful as I remembered.
"God I missed you guys so much, Trish you look awesome."
"That's because she's getting a bit of Joey," Marko smirked.
"Yes Joe I have to meet him, I believe he's a babe."
"He certainly is, and he's more than ready for your cuddles. Pleased to meet you, Anne." Joe hugged her and Kasey was just behind him. They both welcomed her back then the rest of the crew arrived. No champagne today but plenty of cake. Eva and Wilson arrived to welcome her back, and by the look of her, she was about to have my new niece.
"I saw what you did with Chloe Gloria, I think another star is born."
"Why thank you sir, Kasey give it up." She snapped her fingers.
He dug in his pocket and pulled the memory stick out, she walked into the salon and stuck it in the TV we all followed.
Gloria did look beautiful on screen, she was born to do this kind of work, Ethan hugged her and Anne had her arm around Trish, but Tim arrived and took over for an even bigger cuddle.
"Put it on rotation Kasey it can play throughout the day."
"It's only five minutes Adam."
"Then put some more on it and bring it back at morning tea time."
"Yes boss, I see nothing changed between you two then." Anne saluted me, my smile turned into laughter.
"Now which station can I have?"
"Your old one or you can take one of the other two."
"I think I will take my old one."
"Good, do what you want baby. Trish, we are now open."
Everyone went back to their stations, Lynnie manned the wash trough and I unlocked the door.
"Good morning my friends. I have been up all night making these biscuits, so do not be shy, hand them around please Marko. Welcome back Miss Anne, you look well rested, and have you got time for this old nona's hair today?"
"Of course, Zena go with Lynnie for a wash." I leaned over to Zena and said.
"When she tells you everything, let us know will you?"
"That is why I am here Mr. Adam." She grinned.
Kasey and Joe left and I received a very nice kiss, Joe did Trish and they both were off to Kasey's office to do some work. Eva and Wilson went with them and I hugged her tight.
"Have you got any pain?"
"A little discomfort Adam, bub's time is near I think."
"Go get some rest and I will ring you later on."
"Anne looks well don't you think?"
"Yes, she does baby, let's hope it's all behind her."
Wilson had collared some men in a jeep to drive them home, he didn't think Eva would make it on foot.
My first client was a very nice ex-military man who had heard good things about the salon, so he wanted the work's today. I did hear James and Tim wolf whistle Georgio as he walked past them. I try to discourage that sort of behaviour in here, yeah right. But they did have a ball with him at the club the other night I believe. After he greeted his aunty Zena he took a couple of biscuits and I made him a coffee.
"I am in love Adam, there is no other in my life." He said out of the blue.
"With Chloe?"
"No with the local tramp, who else would I be talking about." He laughed.
"Well she is a gorgeous girl Georgio, I am pleased you are attracted to her. Is she in love with you yet?"
"I think she may be Adam, but I will have to explore that more."
I had to contain my laughter because Zena was watching me.
"Have you had many girlfriends Georgio?"
"No Adam, I was kept busy. I rarely had time to myself, so no big romances for me."
After I trimmed his hair I got Trish to do his foils a tone or two darker but still looking blonde. It would be Trisha's day today she has to do mine again, that grey is running rampant through my hair and I had resigned myself to having it dyed once a month. I didn't like it but Kasey, funnily enough, kind of thinks it's nice.
He looked stunning when he left to go pick Chloe up from the studio which is somewhere close by, I believe. She had a rehearsal day and will need Gloria in the next few days, so again I will be one down. When I found the time I rang Cody, he was in one of his moods. Dan had gone off somewhere without telling him, so he was in a grumpy mood, but we talked and he okayed the boys taking the flat at the same rate. They will have to pay all the outgoings and he did mention, the no-parties policy which I agreed to.
"Oh, you bought me some flowers, you wonderful man Dan." He chuckled down the phone.
"Dan's back with flowers Adam, looks like I will have to thank him for them." He giggled.
"Have fun baby." I hung up laughing, they are like rabbits at their place always heading for the bedroom, sounds like my life at the moment.
I clapped my hands at morning tea time and said.
"Listen up you lot I have some news, Trish and Joe are moving from the apartment building, so we would like you Marko, James, and Anne to take the flat over. There's plenty of room and the only rent is you pay the outgoings like insurance, body corporate, water, and rates it doesn't cost a fortune. The only stipulation Cody has is there will be no raging parties."
They looked at me and Marko said.
"Are you bloody serious?"
"No, I'm joking. Of course, I'm serious. I am also moving to a new house so keep yourselves nice kids we won't be there to supervise."
"Thank you so much," James said and all three jumped up and down to hug Trish and myself. It felt good to give them a helping hand, I know they will treat the flat well and maybe Lynnie will move in too.
"It looks like Kasey and Joe aren't arriving so now is a good time to do my hair Trish."
"Come on let's get it started."
She sat me in her chair and started mixing the dark liquid, thankfully Lynnie will wash it all out.
"So, if mum and dad don't take the cottage you and Joe can have it."
"I think your mum and dad should live in it, the extra bedrooms will be good for Billy, and Sam will be over the moon to have him as a brother, not to mention the endless sleepovers."
"Good, I hope they do too, and you will be nearer to us."
"Well I am kinda used to it, and your mum is going to love it out there."
"If she agrees to it."
"I think she might Adam." She gave me a grin.
Kasey came in and Joe followed as usual, he had done a bigger memory stick and Gloria stuck it in the tv, we watched a half hour of snippets and some funny outtakes, Lynnie washed my hair and Kasey watched Trish trim it. I noticed his trousers had a big lump in them, he loves running his hands through my hair.
When it was done and dried, we went to the tea room to have some lunch.
"So what have you been up to, any break-ins or car chases?"
"Keep trying Adam, my world is full of business meetings and paperwork now thanks to you. When do you think we will move?"
"I'm in no hurry Kase, as you said maybe next week or the week after. I need to start packing up our things."
"How about we get the movers to do all that, you can sit at the other end and show them where to put stuff."
"My treasures they need to go in the car, it's safer."
"There are really good movers out there Adam I'm sure your things will be safe."
"I will take the main things then, like Sam's little bottles and lamp and Evan's handbag I don't want that scratched."
"The statues also, did you keep their boxes?" He said.
"Yes, they are in the storage cage."
"Why Evans handbag?" He asked.
"Because it was something he especially bought for me, he even traveled miles to get it. It was given out of love not friendship."
"He loves you?"
"No, he likes me, he loves to torment me. I think that bag is very special, something given by a straight man to a gay friend." I smiled.
"I see, so what did I give you?"
"Your uniform, it's very special to me Kasey that will travel with us and your medals and awards."
"It's all in the past." He kissed me.
"It's a huge part of our past, we can never forget that. As much as you have become an awesome corporate manager and father, I will always see you as Kasey with a K."
I kissed him back.
"Would you like me to try it on Adam?"
"Yes."
Someone cleared their throat and I looked up at James who was standing in the doorway.
"Your appointment is here."
"Thank you, won't be a minute." He left and we stood up, I embraced Kasey and dove right in and that smacker came from my heart and he felt it.
He left to go back to work and after my client left I finally snaffled Zena, her hair looked lovely Anne had done a great job.
"Coffee madam?"
"Yes please Mr. Adam, then I have to go and do some nice things under my husband's desk."
"Do you have knee pads?"
"Yes, I always have them in my handbag, you never know when he needs some attending to." I laughed.
"Now what did you find out?"
"Many things Mr. Adam." She looked at the doorway I placed the coffee in front of her then I took one of her biscuits.
"The boyfriend she had in Melbourne decided he didn't want to move here, she said it was only a casual thing and she's happy for him. Nothing has come her way about Mitchell but she did hear he was doing good things at the university. She is very happy, to have had that break and she's put it all to rest. She is still embarrassed about the overdose but she is working on it daily, it will never happen again."
"Good, thank you so much for that."
"It is a good thing they are moving into Cody's place, she isn't worried about being in anyone's way anymore. Mr, Adam do you think Cody and Daniel would like a foursome?"
"You had to go and spoil everything, didn't you? No Dan just bought Cody flowers so they are spending the afternoon in bed I should think."
"Sadly it is only a fantasy of Luca's, I miss out again." She smiled cheekily.
"Have it your way, your nephew is very much smitten with Chloe."
"He is Adam, and I think they will make a gorgeous couple in the future."
"He said he hasn't had any big romances."
"He hasn't, he has been concentrating on his career."
"Good." I sat back and smiled to myself, that man of mine is a star when it comes to seeking the best out of people.
She left to go and see Luca, I would have offered to get on my knees if she was too tired, but Kasey's image came into my head and he toyed with my imagination.
Anne laughed and I looked around the salon, it was almost back to normal. I did two cadets and one Major then I had to go see Kasey otherwise my balls will explode. I walked up the street with confidence in my step, the closer I got to the building the quicker my pace got. There was a crowd outside and my heart sank once again. It soared when I saw what was happening, Eva's waters had broken and Wilson Joe, and Kasey were helping her get into the car. I almost screamed with excitement and looked at her with tears in my eyes and said.
"Don't forget to breathe." She groaned, then yelled.
"Wilson get me to the hospital, now, it's coming."
He jumped in the back seat with her and Joe took the wheel, Kasey jumped in with them and I was left standing on the sidewalk.
I will pick Sam up from school and then head for the hospital, by the time we get there it should be all over.
I sent Trish a message to let the staff know Eva was giving birth then I went to get my car. Finding a space outside the school was painful but I managed to get one around the corner. I waited across the road until the bell went and the message I got from Kasey made me laugh.
'It's a girl, born in the backseat in the hospital car park, mother and daughter fine, Wilson is still in shock.' of course I sent the message on to Trish.
I watched my big boy walk across the road and he jumped into my arms, although I now kneel for him to do that, he's getting quite heavy.
"Where are we going daddy?"
"I have a surprise for you."
"Can you tell me now?'
"Aunty Eva had her bubs not long ago, we are going to see her."
He screamed with joy and insisted we buy her some flowers and a teddy. He picked both and we caught the lift up to maternity. Kasey got his cuddles and so did Uncle Joey. Wilson was in with Eva and bub's so we all had to wait, except Sam who can go anywhere unnoticed.
"I saw him go into the room Adam, he's not lost." Kase smiled.
Wilson came out and said she was happy we were all there but she was exhausted. Sam is having a good look at bubs and could we all come back later on or in the morning? I understood he wanted to be alone with his family, so I went into the room to get Sam and to get a look at the little one.
"You get some rest, I just wanted a look."
"I told Wilson to let you all in for a peek and then I will sleep, Adam."
"Well, she's bloody beautiful."
The boys followed and both of them cooed and fussed over the tiny pink baby.
"So you nearly didn't make it?"
Wilson laughed and Eva blushed.
"You haven't heard the worst of it yet Adam, Kasey had to deliver our daughter in the car park." Eva smiled.
"Really?"
"Yes, he was the only one around that knew how to do it." She stared at Wilson.
"Sorry." He said.
"And just like that, we have a name for her."
"Please tell me," I asked.
"Casey, we are calling her Casey, with a C."
