So there is no show without punch as Kasey flew into the cabin and then down the stairs, he took one look at me and I smiled.

"It's a twisted ankle no big deal."

"By the way, Trish was talking I thought you had broken something."

"Are you okay daddy?"

"Yes baby, just a sore ankle, like you had the other day."

Billy and he went to watch something on the tv after I got cuddles, he did say he will tell me about his day when I feel better. Two men also arrived at the back door looking for Joe, they were here to pick up the beds. I asked Joe if he wanted the bedding he said yes. I told mum to get a garbage bag out and throw the sheets in, they are no good to us we all have big beds.

The kids were all pop-eyed as they watched the two men carry them outside and up the outer stairs, Joe also got them to bring the bigger bed down and place it in the room. It only took a half hour and mum started making it up.

"Are you in any pain Adam?" Dad asked.

"No dad, I took some painkillers and June has strapped it up, there's not much else I can do."

"You could go to the hospital just to be sure."

"It will be okay dad, don't fuss." I looked at Kasey who by now had taken my hand.

"I'm your father, I'm allowed to fuss."

"I know and I love you for it." I smiled at dad.

He walked over and sat on the couch, he will have a nap and I turned to Kasey and asked him.

"How did you go at the farm?"

"It was great the kids saw the newborn calf, and Chloe gave them both a pony ride, it's a wonder they can still speak they screamed so much."

Joe left to find Trish, dad went to sleep, and mum had laid on the new bed and napped herself, which left Kasey and me to our own devices. He smiled and then he helped me into the bedroom where he wanted to get naked.

I limped, trying not to put any pressure on my foot but with Kase's help, it was a breeze and even easier when he stripped me off. I was placed under the blanket and then this beast of a man slid in beside me, and he was wicked in every way, and downright dirty.

I could hear Sam talking to someone about his farm day, he went on and on as Kasey tried to get me going again. I had to go to the toilet and he groaned and then helped me get dressed, I didn't need his help but he gave it anyway. I limped to the bathroom and he even held my dick as I had a pee.

Sam was talking to Trish at the table, Billy was fast asleep in dads arms and mum was busy in the kitchen.

"Joe's mum sent a big pot of spaghetti over Adam, we will have that for dinner." I limped past and said.

"That was good of her mum, something different at least." I giggled. Joe handed a walking stick to me.

"June sent this over for you, try it." I grabbed it and yes It made my journey to the table easier.

I sat opposite Kasey and he opened his computer, Sam was looking at me and I smiled.

"Go ahead." I nodded, so he restarted his story.

I heard all about the small calf which by the way they called Sam, apparently the next one will be called Billy. He's too small to ride but he will feed him when he visits next time. The pony ride was beautiful and Chloe held onto him tightly and she did a few circles of the yard. They fed the chickens with Joe's mum, sat with her then told her all about their kindy, and eventually, he asked what I did to my ankle.

"I tripped down the stairs baby, it's okay now but I have to rest it for a while."

"Good daddy, papa and me will look after you."

"Thank you, my lovely son,"

Mum handed me a coffee when she sat down and dad woke up. Kasey opened his laptop again and I had almost forgotten about that email, but I will watch his face and see if he reacts.

I lifted my leg and rested my foot between his legs, he was going to grab it but remembered it was my sore one. Trish got up and handed me fifty dollars.

"For today."

"Thank you Trish and thank you for coming back, are you both still staying at Joe's tonight?"

"Yes we will leave soon, but I will be back in the morning."

"Good you have fun, what cabins Joe?"

"What?"

"The bunks are for what cabins?" He laughed.

"We have four cabins for hire Adam, farm stay hires. One of them needed some bunks for families that book in, and thank you."

"Our pleasure, are they like this one?"

"No Adam, they are modern ones."

"I see."

"Thank your mum for me, I will transfer the food to another pot and you can take hers back with you."

Mum got up to do that.

"Thanks, mum."

"Anything else son?"

"Not at the moment, oh grab that block of cheese I may as well grate it while I'm sitting here." I looked at Kasey his face was blank. I know that look and he was deliberately hiding something by not reacting to our conversation, he was too fixated on the screen to even hear us. I nudged him with my foot, it felt okay.

"Penny for your thoughts lieutenant."

"Uh? nothing Adam, what are we having for dinner?"

"Spaghetti."

I didn't get the cheese because mum doing it, and now it's started raining, this will test how waterproof the house is.

Joe and Trish showered and got ready to leave, both Billy and Sam had instructions for them to say hello to their animal friends and tell them they will see them soon.

I looked at Kasey again and he wasn't with us, when he looked at me he pretended to start searching on his laptop.

Joe said goodbye to him twice before he even acknowledged him, then he stood up and stretched when they

went to go.

"Drive carefully, it looks like this rain isn't going to let up."

"We will, I will ring you later Adam." Trish smiled.

That left just us, and the rain stopped the kids from going outside, so they got under the sleeping bag and watched some more tv.

Dad's phone beeped and I could see Kasey looking at him. Something is up, it's now confirmed.

"Mum do you want a game of cards?"

"Yes son, where did we put them?"

"In the kitchen drawer."

She brought them over and started shuffling them, then dealt them out.

"Want to play Kasey?"

"Not yet maybe in a minute."

He was deep in thought and then he started typing, he was talking to dad because his phone has beeped several times.

I am going to try and mind my own business, whatever it is, it involves dad and Sam, who had forgotten his tv and crept over to my knees, I think he wants to help me play cards. I won the first round and mum won the next three. I gave up and Sam and Billy started playing snap. Mum and I went to get dinner ready as dad moved to Kasey's side.

"I wonder what's happening," I whispered to mum.

"Whatever it is we won't be involved son, I didn't think you noticed."

"Yes, Kasey goes very quiet when it's something important otherwise he would have played cards with us."

"And your father has received three messages which he was very quick to answer."

"It's about Sam."

"How do you know?"

"I wanted to play solitaire earlier and saw the email come in, the subject line was Sam Casey."

"Are you going to ask him?"

"Not yet mum let's just see how they play it."

"Set the table son, it's ready."

I placed plates and bowls on the table with the cutlery. Sam and Bill's dinners were already cooling on the bench, I better watch that cheese, they do tend to go overboard with it. I will ring Joe's mum after and thank her and maybe put a stop to her trying to feed us.

The men grabbed bowls and started filling them up, mum and I fed the kids and we tied tea towels around their necks for spillage.

We waited for a minute then we grabbed our meals. It was delicious, she's a very good cook. The rain had let up and there was a slight rainbow in the sky so I pointed it out to the kids who had to hug the windows to see it.

"What are you working on Kasey?"

"Nothing too heavy Adam, just military stuff."

I winked at mum she blushed a little and then went back to her meal.

"Adam there's a big carnival on the beach next weekend, I might take Billy do you want to come?'

"Yes, that will be good mum, what day?"

"Saturday, you will miss out on coming here though."

"We can come on Sunday or late Saturday afternoon either way I'm easy."

"I will be in Canberra next weekend Adam."

"I see, then we will come here anyway. Anything important happening Kase?"

"Not really they want me to go through some things on that border rewrite."

"On the weekend?"

"Yes, I leave Thursday and will be back Monday hopefully."

"That's a very long weekend Kasey, are you sure they want you there?"

"The email says I am required to attend."

"Liar." I couldn't help myself, if I let him go on he will dig the hole deeper. He looked at me I saw a glistening in his eyes.

"Come for a walk," I said.

"No."

"Then we have a problem, dad can you throw some light on the subject?"

"No son."

"Then the texts Kasey has been sending you are all about him going to Canberra?" He blushed and I went on.

"Nothing to do with the border laws, all to do with our son."

"Stop it Adam, I have to go to Canberra, end of."

"Okay have it your way then you go to Canberra Thursday, how long is a flight to Iraq mum?"

"I don't know son, maybe eighteen hours."

"Is that enough time Kasey or will you be requiring more days?'

I had backed him into a corner, and of course, I took it one step further.

"Show me the email."

He stopped me there.

"No, it's military, top secret."

"Then you had better change your password because you know I will read it eventually."

Dad dropped his head and looked at me then at Kasey.

"Show him, lieutenant, you know he doesn't make idle threats." He then took mums hand and said.

"Come for a stroll mother,"

The computer was pushed in front of me and he opened the Sam Casey email. I sat and read it, it broke my heart, and tears formed but didn't flow. He has lost both parents, that poor little soul so young, so I won't go on about this, let's just say the bodies of the younger woman they found on Sam's father's estate were tested and one was a perfect match for Sam's DNA.

"Come into the bedroom Kasey." I took his hand and he followed me, he then touched my face and said.

"Hold me."

I did because I wanted him to hold me also.

"Where were you planning to go Kasey?"

"To Iraq to give Sam's mum a proper burial."

"Do we have a name?'

"No. I was just going to put 'Sam Casey's mum' on the grave."

"Then do it."

"Do you want to come?"

"No I need to be with Sam, and I would prefer you to be with him also. Can you get someone to organize it without you being there?"

"I suppose so, but I felt I needed to be there."

"You need to be here with your family. Get someone in the military to do the grave site."

"The Australian consulate, she will be buried on our soil over there in their grounds, by the military."

"And the others?"

"They will be buried separately and will have markers, nothing has turned up yet about them, only Sam's DNA."

I pulled him down on the bed and my arms went around him. I will never ask him how old the girl was or how she passed, and I will make sure after we see the photo we will destroy everything on the computer about Sam's heritage except his adoption.

"I'm sorry Adam, I didn't mean to drag you into this."

"I was going to play solitaire this morning and saw the email. I didn't open it Kasey I promise. And you didn't drag me into anything, now I know we can make sure her son has the best life ever."

"I know he will." He kissed me and told me he loved me, we didn't sleep we only held on for some time then it was Sam's turn.

I rinsed my face and went out to see him, they were still watching a program and mum had washed up and was now putting the dishes away. I kissed both the boy's heads and asked her if she wanted a hand. I looked at dad and said.

"Thank you." He nodded. I was thanking him for encouraging Kasey to tell me, I would not have blamed dad for his disappearance, and I know it's not always his fault.

"I have some self-saucing pudding in the oven Adam, is Kasey far behind you?"

"No, he's just refreshing himself." Dad raised his eyebrows.

"No dad you know we weren't up to no good in there."

"Sorry son, but the mind does boggle sometimes."

"Dirty bugger."

"Oh, that reminds me, I have something for you. I bought it a few years ago and only just found it in the garden shed." He got up to go to their room and I looked at mum, she shrugged.

"Beats me, he never tells me anything."

"But he told you what was up?'

"Yes Steven a very sad story, but he told me." She kissed me.

"This time." She added.

Dad came back and handed me a paper bag.

"I bought these the day after you told us you were gay, I suppose you don't use them now." I looked in the bag and yes there was a six-pack of condoms, unopened. I started laughing and Kasey came out.

"Only six, dad I was really popular back then."

"Steven!" Mum nearly screamed.

"Well in my head I was and thank you for the thought dad."

I placed them in the bedroom, maybe Kasey would like to use them on his new friend Joey.

"What smells so good?" He has arrived.

"Chocolate pudding, get the cream out of the fridge Kasey, they are ready."

There were two puddings, one for the older men and one for mum, myself, and the kids.

I will think of today as one of the bitterest but best days in my life, as I sat with my Kasey and dad and watched them fight over a chocolate pudding like kids in a candy shop. I understood dads role so much more now, he was the head of my family, but Kasey was in charge of my and Sam's lives. My ankle was much better and I was putting some weight on it, I stood on the bed and looked down at my Kasey, he was getting an eye full of what was to come before I pounced on him.

We wanted to sleep with Sam and Billy on the floor, just to be near him but they had other ideas, they ended up with mum and dad in their new bed, I could hear the giggling, and my son was very happy. Surprisingle we slept well and i was woken by my lover to maybe have a romp.

"You had enough last night, bloody hell Kasey what's wrong with you?'

"I'm randy Adam, please can I have another go?"

"Okay but just once, if it doesn't work then I'm out of here."

He giggled and of course, it worked, perfectly.

I showered and went to find some coffee, the kids were still in bed and dad was playing with them, they giggled while he made growling noises. Mum was sitting at the table having her coffee and looking out at the forest.

"It's beautiful this morning, the rain has rejuvenated it."

"Yes, the wildlife is becoming part of the house I can almost name every bird I see each morning now."

"Are you all right son?'

"Yes mum, we will put it behind us and get on with the job of being good parents, which reminds me I must ask dad if he can pick up that chimenea and wood."

"No son, we already have a fire pit."

"When did you get that?"

"The same time as you. Wilson had it installed." I laughed so now I am stuck with it, maybe it will look good with a pot plant placed in it.

I checked the salon and there were no notes, the kids from next door arrived and they all went to play, things were getting back to normal. When Joe and Trish arrived they had fresh scones, so we put some aside for the kids and ate the rest, they were delicious.

"Mum makes a lot of food Adam, she's always cooking. Mostly for the farm hands and she makes extras for anyone that calls in. I think it's a local tradition, many a time I have been handed cakes and stuff from the workers in the dairy."

"Well, she's a bloody good cook Joe."

"She's as pleased as punch with Chloe and what she's doing, it's like she has found another life."

"That is good Joe, she probably had given up on her."

"Never, not our mum she is a real go-getter when she gets fired up."

"And how often does she fire up Joe?" Trish asked.

"Never." He giggled.

"Did you enjoy the sleepover lovely?"

"Yes Adam, I had to move a ton of bears off the bed to even find a blanket."

"I like bears." He kissed her and then added.

"And I like you."

"When are you shopping for rings?" I thought I had better ask because our Trish won't.

"Soon Adam, I would like to buy a vintage one but of course, it's up to Trish."

"I want a one-carat solitaire I can go you halves, Joe."

He kissed her again.

"We start looking Tuesday okay?"

"Okay."

"I would offer you mine but it's too lovely for me to part with." Mum smiled.

"It's okay Mrs. S, I got this." Trish looked at me, I think she and I are going to the shops before Joe takes her.

The tv lit up and Eva and Wilson were at the door, it was so nice to see them.

"What are you two doing here?"

"We have been looking at the house, any room at the inn tonight?"

"Of course, we have a room but not a bed," I said.

I told them what happened and they giggled.

"June has a king bed in the house she said we could have, Wilson, get the boys to help you bring it over." Eva smiled.

"Great."

"It can stay here until we are ready to open the b&b."

"Get the sheets too and blankets if there are any."

I have got some extras but a few more wouldn't go astray and we will probably buy them a new bed and linen before they move in.

Dad and Kasey with Joe and Wilson got that little job done and I decided that Pizza and wine would fit the bill tonight.

We made coffee and we 'Girls' sat around the fire in the chillout area, the kids had gone with the boys to help with the move.

"What sort of a ring do you want Trish?"

"I want a nice vintage one Adam, I love the one your mum wears something like that but less ostentatious." She smiled.

"Will you please do me a favor and look through Adele's rings, not her engagement one that's too precious to Jimmy, but the others are available."

"Then it won't be mine, Adam. I want one to be mine."

"It will be, trust me."

"No taking it back if we argue."

"Maybe for one night, but it will still be yours or we go find another one."

"I don't want Joe to spend a fortune on it, if we buy I want to go halves."

"I think he could cover the cost of a ring Trish," Mum said.

"Yes I know he can, but it doesn't sit well with me, and I know it won't be cheap." She grinned.

Eva was looking at her ring, it is beautiful and it sparkled in the light.

"How is that nephew of mine doing."

"He's a strong little tacker, I can feel him kicking already."

"He will, and it will get worse, Billy was so eager to be born he took to constantly kicking every time I sat down to relax."

"And me?" I had to ask.

"You were an angel Adam, not much kicking, I was blessed and didn't know how lucky I was until Billy started."

"Mum you called me Adam."

"So I did, I think it's about time I called you what everyone else does son." She smiled.

I didn't mind, it was a unique name mum and dad had given me but so was my grandfather's name, Adam.

The men joined us and I asked how the kids were, they were watching Superman cartoons this time. Kasey sat with me and he smiled, the bed has been set up for Eva and Wilson.

"So when do you start on the renovations?" Dad asked.

"Soon general, the plans are in and it was indicated that we won't have any trouble getting a b&b license to trade. Which is half the battle thanks to Eva." He kissed my dear friend's lips.

"How so?"

"I got her to lodge the request and they saw she worked for Adam, the lady behind the counter said she loved the way you did her hair and there shouldn't be any problems with the license." He laughed.

"Well, your name does mean something Adam." Joe smiled.

"So it should, next step is to run for mayor." I laughed.

"I should open my law practice here Adam, I think I could do well."

"Yes you would Kasey, there are many businesses here that could do with your expertise," Joe commented.

"That's of course if the government doesn't want anything further done," I said.

"I will still have to finalize the border issues I'm sure the government will be making some adjustments, they can't help themselves."

We sat there for ages it was so nice but all things must come to an end, I took the pizza orders and rang them in. The boys from next door had strict instructions to get home early their gran was visiting for dinner so we didn't have to feed them tonight. Trish opened the wine and Eva pouted. We didn't rub it in and we only shared one bottle, with mum.

The boys grabbed theirs and now it was a race between Kasey, dad Wilson and Joe, thankfully there were extras.

The rest of the night was spent playing Uno, and feeling Eva's belly when bubs kicked.

Wilson will make a great father, he doted on Eva and they were very much in love. I said goodnight to Kasey and rolled onto my side, he enclosed me in his arms and we had a good night's sleep. Billy and Sam were both in with mum and dad again.

The morning came too soon and it also beckoned Chloe to our door, she was excited because the film crew is going to do some footage today at the museum and she gets to dress up. Gloria had the task of doing her makeup and dressing her, under Marko's supervision. We didn't need to be there because Jimmy was going to supervise.

"We need to take an inch off the length Chloe, it won't make any difference to your daily look just that Adeles was a tiny bit shorter." Trish notices these things.

"That's okay, I'm getting into this role, she was an amazing person. Did you know she lived with Coco Chanel at one stage when she was doing some catwalk in Paris?"

"No, I must have missed that."

"Well she did for three months, it was after the time Coco was restarting her career but Adele was contracted out so she got another model to be the face of Chanel. After three months she then moved to London."

"So you have read all the letters and notes then?" I asked.

"All Adam, three times it's so fascinating I wish I lived in those times."

"Coco Chanel was labeled a nazi sympathizer during the war, I don't see it as that, I see it as survival, but she managed to rise above it and get on with the job," Mum said. I looked at her and smiled.

"You read all about her life too?"

"Only Chanel's, your father bought me her perfume years ago so I took it upon myself to go to the library and read all about her."

"Well done mum."

"Yes I took you with me, you kicked a lot while I read. That's where you get your love for vintage things from." She laughed.

"So what scenes are you filming today?"

"A reflection on the fifties Adam, big skirts, tailored suits hats handbags, with gloves, we can't forget the gloves." She giggled.

"You will look lovely Chloe, come on let's get that hair sorted out." Trish was going to do it today.

"Adam do you want to help?"

"I'll come and keep you company Trish, but you won't need my help." I smiled.

We took Chloe out to the salon, she sat in the chair and Trish sprayed her hair with water, no need for a wash today.

"Now we have you all to ourselves, Miss Chloe, what was Joe's ex like?" Chloe's face clouded over.

"She pretended she liked me, but she was an absolute bitch behind my back. I started resenting Joey about then, before that he was just an annoying big brother. My off-handed approach wasn't about dad, even though I missed him so much, it was her. She kept telling me I should go see a stylist and get my act together before it was too late. She gave Joe such a hard time and he didn't see it, which infuriated me and mum. Thankfully he recognized something awful in her and you know the rest."

"I see and where does this woman work?"

She laughed and said.

"She's a stylist at Myers city store, people go to her for advice with makeup and hair problems. She also dabbles in fashion but she's not very good. I can't wait for this documentary to be released, with me as the star that will be a sweet revenge. In essence, she works behind the Revlon counter." She laughed again, such a nice sound to hear.

"Trish you should go and ask her about hair tips."

"Not likely Adam, I don't want anything to do with her."

"When Joe goes shopping for your ring Trish make sure he buys you the biggest and best," Chloe said.

"Chloe, I'm marrying Joey for himself not his money."

"But he is loaded."

"Baby girl, the biggest and dearest isn't always the best. Sometimes it's just for show and I think you will be surprised with the ring I choose."

"Trish, can I tell you something, please don't get offended?"

"Of course you can, and nothing you say offends me."

"Well, when Joey told mum she said he could use grandmas diamond ring. He argued that you will want your very own style he didn't want to push someone else's ring on you."

"She was his gran, she was someone special, is it nice?'

"I wanted it, but I am happy for Joey to use it, especially with you. I have a photo I took the day mum showed him."

She shuffled through her phone and found it, handing it to Trish she almost dropped it.

"That's exactly what I'm talking about Adam?"

I looked at the vintage ring with a large one-carat diamond and smaller ones graduating in size to tiny stones that were scattered down the shank, I smiled, yes this is Trish.

"You don't mind if I have it, Chloe? Because I won't take it if you do."

She squealed and answered.

"That's awesome, and of course, I don't mind. If I want to use the family jewelry I will ask mum for one of hers, she never wears it now. She will be so happy Trish do you absolutely like it?"

"I love it. Adam?"

"Bloody perfect, deco setting big diamond and just perfect for your hand what a wonderful gesture."

"Well don't tell Joey I told you, he still thinks you would want a modern one."

"I won't, and after we go shopping he will know by the stores we go into what I like the best, it's bloody beautiful." She looked again and said.

"Can you send the pic to me?"

"Sure can dear sister-in-law, welcome to the family." She stood up and hugged Trish then me. She also looked a million dollars with her hair a little shorter.

"By the way Chloe, head bridesmaid, no need for an answer I insist." Another happy moment.

She went to say goodbye to the others, and Sam and Billy while we cleaned up.

"You made her day my friend."

"I will make it even better soon."

"What are you up to?"

"Her name is Chris and she works on the Revlon counter. I think you Chloe and I are going shopping soon. I will let you know when."

My Trish is an unknown when it comes to making her friends happy. I did wonder what it was all about. But if it involves revenge I'm in.

We said our goodbyes to Chloe and Joe gave her an extra hug, he was pleased Trish had asked her to be her head bridesmaid.

"And do I get a role, Trish?"

"Yes, I want Billy and Sam as ring bearers, and you and Kasey will be my flower boys, won't you." That sarcastic tone, bloody flower boys what is she thinking. She fumbled with her phone and showed me a clip of a guy doing the flower boy dance up the aisle.

"Okay looks like something we can do." I laughed and passed it to Kasey.

"He can't do it Adam, he's my best man," Joe said.

"You don't have any friends Joe?"

"All the friends I need are here in this room." He kissed Trish.

"Wilson you and Adam are our flower boys then." She decreed and Wilson had to have a look at the vid, he then slapped my hand.

We had a wonderful day and did some wedding plans which Kasey typed into his computer, later on, they were even picking suits out.

"Black dinner suits boys, I won't accept t-shirts and shorts."

"And your dress Trish?" Mum wanted to know.

"Vintage Mrs. S, I have my eye on a very special one and need to speak to Jimmy It won't fit me of course but I can have it copied."

"Wow," Joe exclaimed.

"Yes calf length vintage Joey, I love the style and when we go shopping for a ring it will be old, well used, and will come to me full of love. I will know it when I see it." She kissed him and they cuddled for a moment. He looked at me and winked that smile won't leave his face for weeks.

"I wanted to ask you something my lovely."

"Yes, my Joey." I nearly threw up, I am doing that a lot lately.

"Well, it's like this. When I told mum I was going to ask you to marry me she went and got grans diamond ring from the safe and said I could use it. I don't think it's the one you will like but I would like you to at least look at it."

"Go get it Joey I'm open to anything."

He placed his hand inside his jacket and pulled out a small box.

"I don't suppose this is what you have in mind."

Trish took the little box and gasped as she opened it.

"Put it on my finger Joey." He did that task and it did fit, it was perfect, the stones were bigger than shown in the photo and it did sparkle a lot.

"Thank you, this is the ring I want." Tears were almost erupting from my face as she showed everyone.

I did think after some deliberation that the Merchant siblings set this all up, Chloe was to show Trish the photo, and Joey conveniently had the ring on him. It all worked well, and he confirmed that was their plan to me later on. He needed to know if the ring was perfect for Trish's hand and if she would like it.
