The teddy bear became a part of Sam's routine, at tv time it sat on the coffee table and when it was bedtime, he cuddled him while he went to sleep. He talked to Billy on the phone then Buddy had to have a word also. I was brokenhearted that this little boy didn't have a proper childhood, and I hoped that bear would be in his life for a very long time to come.
The floor had dried and the pool table had been moved in, the tv sat on the wall, and there was no fire because there was no gas connection close by. The bar was another fail he couldn't find the right one, and the one at Adele's museum was too vintage and frail looking for what Kase wanted, he's still looking.
The next day the biggest module sofa arrived and my old one had been moved to the games room.
It was a dark grey velvet one with plenty of room for my small family, Sam commandeered the corner one it was more like a bed than a seat. I had to laugh at Kasey's face when he tried to entice him to come and sit with him and watch the big tv.
"No this is daddy's couch and it is soft, good soft for me and Buddy to lay on."
"Big fail that tv." I laughed as I took the casserole out of the oven. I knew Sam wouldn't sit out there because I'm in here. The new games room was great but it still felt a little cold.
The first night I snuggled up with my son on the oldies sofa, Kasey couldn't stand it any longer and joined us. I giggled so much that he pounced on me rubbing my crotch as he licked my neck.
The first sort of opening night had dad, Mick, Wilson, Joe, and Kasey playing pool, the tv was on and they looked like they were having some fun. Mum Trish and I sat at the table and had a wine and talked about how long it was going to last before the boys got sick of it. Sam and Billy had shared Buddy tonight and were teaching him how to watch cartoons, or was that a spiderman movie? I was telling mum I heard from Anne today and she's very happy where she is and loves the new salon. Trev and Janice had done a great job getting it off the ground.
Jimmy arrived and rolled his eyes.
"Memories of yesteryear Jimmy?"
"Definitely, as much as Johnny tried I couldn't come at it. I didn't see the sense of it, but Adele was a very good player." He laughed.
He looked a lot better and younger if that was possible, I guess letting me into his life has taken some of the stresses away, and he got along well with all our friends.
It was two am when he crawled into bed, he moaned so much I turned my back to him and tried to go back to sleep.
"Have they all gone home?"
"Yes dad has just gone to bed and the rest have gone, I'm buggered."
"Get some sleep Kase, they will return to do it all over again tomorrow night."
"Do you think?"
"I know they will,"
It only took three nights of this and it was Eva that put the breaks on Wilson. Her nights had now become lonely and it was showing at work she wasn't getting enough sleep, I was the same, Trish was just furious, but she was trying to be sweet to her new man by not flying off the handle. We have to go to the cabin this weekend anyway, Marko has to do a special dry run for a bride-to-be, and I needed my husband to myself. I had kept my eye on the community page and the appointments were building up. I thought Trish, Marko, and I would do some of the longer items this weekend and the easier ones next week. I spoke to her about it and she looked in her diary, she was going to Joe's farm to have a look on the Friday but will be with us Saturday and Sunday, she contacted a dozen clients and shifted their times, they were happy.
"What are you doing about the inquiries on your love life?"
"Oh. You haven't read them yet?" I blushed because I had, and she was fending off questions left, right, and centre.
"Maybe a general announcement saying that Joe and Trisha's lives are private and you won't be answering any messages that pertain to them."
"I will do that now, thank you."
"Well, it's none of their business anyway."
"I think they are scared for their jobs, the last lady wanted him to sell up and move permanently to Fiji."
"That bad was it?"
"Yes, and she let all the staff know he was selling, he had to go into damage control for weeks after that, then he dumped her. She tried to sue him for broken promises but the lawyers laughed at her and told her to pee off."
"Was she Fujian?"
"No Australian, without a brain, she just fancied living there that's all."
Kasey had crawled in around one again on the third night, he was so tired. Mick and Joe had kept him up this time, they were fast becoming good friends.
"I think I failed Adam, this is no good. I'm tired all the time."
"Yes well, that beautiful room you designed earlier on was the better bet I think." He moved to my side.
"Adam do you think....."
"No, I'm tired, and you are exhausted." I went back to sleep.
When I got home on the fourth day the table was gone, and my outdoor setting was back along with my barbeque, they had been in the storage cage downstairs.
"What about the smells from the barbeque?"
"We open the big windows when we are cooking out here, and keep the original ones where they are, closed."
"Good and the tv?"
"Swapping it with the one inside, your couch is softer, so the old one can stay out there."
So now I have a big useless room on my hands, but slowly I will change it into Kasey's original plan. It will be more of a conservatory now. It was that night I heard him say to Mick.
"Adam insisted, it didn't look good, so I had to remove it." I didn't care. I have big shoulders and he can dump on me anytime.
Peace at long last, and the thank you text from Trish was not unexpected.
We headed for the cabin Friday after kindy, some KFC was sitting in the back seat and our boy was holding his Buddy and pointing out the scenery on the way. He did fall asleep ten minutes from our destination. Kasey put him to bed and then he unloaded the car. I put the chicken in the oven and he pulled me into our bedroom. The lovemaking was back to being urgent. It was like, I must have you now or I will burst moment. He was going hammer and tongs and I couldn't stop laughing, he had completely missed the mark.
"Slow down for fucks sake."
"I can't help it." He came long and deep and I moaned because it had been a few days since we were together.
I laid back and he flopped half on top of me and half on the bed.
"That was awesome baby, give me a minute and I will attend to you."
"You got one minute."
"I don't seem to have much time at all now, and I miss you so much."
"Set boundaries Kasey, you have work to do, and a family to look after. The table being returned was a good thing, leave the rest to me."
He didn't hear me he was under the covers chomping away at my very horny bits.
I got some photos from Trish, the place was beautiful and the house was a standard ranch style but big. There was even a house maid, she bragged.
The kids from next door arrived and they ate their treats watching tv. Sam had gone very quiet he didn't seem happy at all. Kasey and I were back to our normal positions, he was eating chicken and my foot was his crotch again. His laptop had appeared and he was working on something, I watched him and our son.
The boys had finished and wanted to go and play in the forest but Sam just picked his phone up and rang Billy. All three went off to play, I guess he will catch up with them.
Kasey was deep in thought then he would do a line then stop and think about it.
I was looking out the window and thought I had better go set up the salon but when I went to get up, there was no Sam.
I looked around and noticed his bedroom door was closed, he wouldn't need a nap now surely.
I opened it and there he was laying on his bed with Buddy crying.
When he saw me he tried to stop, but I was onto him within seconds and held him softly. I didn't know what had happened but it wasn't anything small I thought. When he settled down he sniffled and said he was sorry for being a baby.
"Your not a baby son, you are my beautiful little boy."
"But they said I was a baby because I had a teddy."
"Did they? Well, I bet they all have teddies at home I think they were joking son."
"They said I couldn't play with them."
"Did they?" I asked again.
"Yes they don't like Buddy and now they don't like me. I don't want to throw Buddy away, uncle Jimmy gave him to me, and I never have one before."
"I think it's all been a little misunderstanding son, do you want me to speak to them?"
"If you want to daddy, but they are mean today and we buy food for them too."
"Okay. How about you go and talk to poppa and I will go and talk to them."
"Okay, daddy but I am not going to throw Buddy away."
"You certainly are not son, he's part of our family." I smiled and kissed him. Kasey had been at the door listening, he never misses a trick that one.
"Talk to him while I talk to the boys."
I had to take a few deep breaths but they weren't far away, they were playing quietly in the hut. I asked them what was going on and they were confused, and also wondering why Sam had stayed inside.
I told them in the simplest of terms that he thinks they think he's a baby for having a teddy, then I explained to them who gave it to him and in a roundabout way why he never had one before.
The eldest was the spokesman, he was telling me that they did say he was a big baby, but they were only joking because they all have a teddy at home, and they love them because their mummy gave them the bears. He told me they told him not to bring him into the forest because he will get dirty and he was too pretty to get soiled.
"Okay boys, can you do me a big favour?" They nodded at a hundred miles an hour, I went back inside and grabbed my boy.
"They were joking with you, they didn't want Buddy to come and play because he will get dirty and they said he was too beautiful to get dirty."
"Really daddy?"
"Yes, really, they love Buddy and are very happy you have a friend like him."
"But I am a baby."
"You are not the only baby living here son, wait and see." I winked at Kasey.
They arrived five minutes later with their teddies, they have had them since they were tiny. Sam is just catching up that's all.
He was a happy kid now, and they let him play with their bears, and they played with Buddy, catastrophe avoided and Kasey smiled, then he handed the chocolate biscuits out.
"He misunderstood their comments that's all, hopefully, it will settle down again."
"The biscuits will do that." He reached for another one and grinned.
Sam left buddy inside to play with the other teddies and they were all laughing and screaming within minutes in the gully again. I got a message from Trish she was having a ball at the farm but will see me early in the morning.
"Don't get too comfortable."
"I won't, but it is an amazing place, for a farm." I could hear the laughter coming from the background, shes goading me again.
Kasey went back to his work I went to the bedroom and stripped off, then I called him. Clothes flew everywhere and he was on top of me shortly after. I could see the kids playing but they couldn't see us because of his amazing windows, so I washed him from head to toe without any concerns. After we dressed he went back to his job and I went to check the salon out. It was fine and there were some notes under the door so I will ring them later on. With not much to do, I thought I would go and sit in the barbeque area. With my phone in hand, I looked through the local and our community pages.
Everything had settled down and there were no big gossip pieces. I then went to sleep, it had been a nice afternoon and we will get pizzas tonight, so I wasn't worried about cooking.
The kids had to go home, there will be no sleepovers tonight, so Kase and I will do that special job for Sam, maybe Buddy will join us. I do get ahead of myself because just as I was about to order dinner a beautiful woman's face appeared at the front door. I went to let Trish and Joe in.
"Surprise!"
"What took you so long, I'm about to order pizza."
"Thank you Adam mines a family one, Trish?" Joe asked.
"Medium seafood thank you, Adam."
"What happened?"
"Joe's sibling, that's what happened."
"Oh, I didn't know you had a sibling Joe."
"Sister Adam, I thought Trish was ready to cope with her but I misread the situation." He laughed.
I ordered the pizzas because Kasey was hungry and Sam was famished, so he said, another dad word. I gave him a biscuit to dull his hunger pains.
"So what happened?"
"Things were going good Adam until Chloe turned up."
"I take it that's your sister?"
"Yes, Chloe had three girlfriends with her." Joe laughed.
"So?" I looked at Trish she giggled.
"Four ladies wanting new looks, don't get me wrong they were lovely, but work?" She laughed again.
"Again, so?"
"We escaped out the back door, we told Joe's mum who is lovely, we had to get back here urgently and would see her tomorrow." She giggled.
"She understood Adam, it was all too much for us." Poor Joe said.
"I guess they were excited Joe, but doing hair on a Friday night isn't my idea of a great welcome to the family."
"My point exactly, they should have made an appointment for tomorrow or next week." Trish went to talk to Sam, and Kasey gave Joe a beer. I noticed Buddy was sitting proudly on Trisha's lap.
"So what are you working on now Kasey?"
"Same thing Joe, it's going to take ages to finish and I'm already over it."
"You're bored and need a distraction."
"Probably, I have to do some trust fund stuff this weekend but that can wait."
"What trust fund?"
"Mine, Sams and Adams, we have two on the go at the moment but I'm thinking I might merge them."
I stared at Kasey and lifted my eyebrow.
"Maybe not then." He giggled.
"No, I think that's a good idea, but what about your mum and Maree?" I said.
"I was finally going to break it up now dads gone, and set mum up with her very own accounts."
"I see." I didn't know what he was thinking of really doing, but I'm sure it will be something awesome.
"I have set one up for my family, the accountants run that for us, can I get you to look at it?"
"Sure just give me the codes and I can go in and have a good look around."
"So you own the dairy straight out Joe, not your family?"
"Yes, my grandfather started the dairy years ago and when he passed, he left it to dad then it was passed to me, he left the farm to mum and my darling sibling."
"He broke it all up then?" Kase asked.
"Yes, he knew I would run the dairy expertly and the farm has a manager and people to run it. Mum is interested, but she doesn't get involved much and the other one is just acting clueless."
"Really?"
"Not wholly useless, it's just that everything is done for her. Let me say one word on the quiet, shes become a spoilt brat."
"That's five words." Kasey laughed and the pizza guy arrived so I went to pay him, and the first cab off the ranks was Sam, he was still hungry.
I have no idea what Joe's family is like, and I don't want to know anyway, leave me out of it. But I know Trish won't put up with it if it continues. I think she has another Evans situation, a dysfunctional family and I felt sorry for Joe, according to my sources he's a brilliant businessman, well thats what Kasey says.
"Cards or chill?" Joe said.
"Cards uncle Joe."
He came over to the table and sat with his buddy, Joe stared at him and I nudged him under the table.
"We have been through all this today, and I don't need to go through it again, ask Trish later on."
"Got it." He looked like he didn't get it.
"Hello buddy, you look very nice tonight. I see you have the same coloured eyes as Sammy, that is awesome." Sam puffed up and smiled as Joe made a fuss, he is going to be a great dad. I looked at Trish and she squinted at me, yes Trish I will leave it alone, babies, how awesome.
Three rounds of cards and the wines were going down very well. Kasey wanted to go for a walk and I accepted his invitation, Sam followed us with his buddy. Trish and Joe settled into the outdoor area. The big Hippo stood proudly amongst the forest and of course, Sam had to have a ride, so Kasey slung him on top Sam grabbed his ears.
The old grey giant wasn't going anywhere but he did have a secret. When Sam got down Kasey showed him the secret latch under his hind and a door opened.
"Lieutenant Sam, any trouble you come here, you can lock it from the inside and be very quiet until the danger passes.
"Really papa, can I try it?"
"You sure can, but don't tell the others it's our secret with dad okay?"
"Ok, sir." He saluted Kasey then climbed into the Hippo's belly. There was plenty of room and he did 'wow' a few times.
When we got back the outdoor fire was on, and I was handed a wine. We sat with them and Joe and Kasey started talking about finance, Trish rolled her eyes a few times when big money was mentioned. I know she's overwhelmed, but also very grounded. Sam fell asleep with his buddy in his arms, my heart once again skipped a little for his innocence.
"Well, ladies and gents I'm off to bed." I stood up and placed his head onto my shoulder then kissed Trish and Kasey and left to go sleep with my son.
I didn't get the bags ready and decided we would sleep in our bed tonight, so I undressed him and placed him and his buddy in the middle of our bed. I then stripped and crawled in with him, I set my alarm for seven because I have work at eight, I don't even remember Kasey coming in.
Sam was nowhere to be found in the morning, but I heard the tv. I kissed my husband good morning and went to get him something to drink and then eat. He was happy to play on the floor with his buddy one eye on the tv and one eye on the bear. I passed him a drink and he smiled.
"Are you happy son?"
"Yes daddy very happy, can I have some toast?"
"Coming up sir." He laughed, he is happy.
Kasey sort of strolled out in his shorts, he wasn't quite awake yet I don't think. He found me in the kitchen and kissed me, then he went to sit with Sam. After my shower, I found them both asleep on the sofa. Well, my day won't get any better than this, I may as well go to work. I picked Trish up on the way after saying good morning to Joe, they had been sitting on the balcony having breakfast.
"Stay here Trish I'll open up."
"No Adam hang on a sec." She kissed Joe and then we left for work.
One car was in the car park and I waved as the door was opened. I turned on the lights and Trish turned the coffee machine on. The salon was set up and ready to go, I was excited to see Marko later on and hopefully between Kasey and Joe, they will get our morning tea and lunch sorted.
Our first client was lovely, she needed her roots done and a good trim so I sat her in the chair just as the next customer arrived. The morning went very smoothly thanks to Trisha's booking skills. Some mums had their kids and Sam was the perfect host as they played with the boys next door in the gully.
We cruised until Marko arrived, he had buns and a big smile on his face. I was happy to see him because his bride had been so excited she turned up early. I don't mind working on brides and this one was no exception she was beautiful.
I gave Marko my station and moved to the garage, I can watch him work from there and do my ladies in peace.
"Marko my dress is from the sixties, it belongs to my mum, and I want to get married in it. So here are some photos, do you think you can work with them?"
"Hollywood."
"Yes, Marko. That's exactly what I am looking for." She was right up our alley, vintage Hollywood, when I looked at the photos and Trish we both said.
"Our Eva's Princess Margaret."
"I agree, right let's get started." He didn't wash her hair, he just proceeded to do big barrel curls with wispy offshoots surrounding it with his fingers. He worked on it for ages, he's such a perfectionist and truly a designer stylist.
After an hour of teasing setting and spraying it into place, he was finally finished. Of course, everyone was gob-smacked. She was stunned into silence and so were we, he had done an awesome job she looked superb and Marko has struck again. He took some photos on her phone and she booked the whole wedding party. That will almost fill our morning, oh goody bridal chatter and champagne.
Sandwiches arrive with a grin, Joe and Kasey had been busy and they placed the big platter out in the garage. Sam was called for lunch and we all grabbed something to eat. His new salon mates had long gone and the kids next door had gone home to dine.
The clients didn't mind and waited patiently and Marko took up the brush and did a few for us, then he ate while I did some. It all worked out very well.
Around two pm, after I had done a perm I heard the shouting. I looked out the doorway and Joe was arguing with a girl who seemed adamant she was going to ruin his day. Trish came over and groaned.
"Chloe?"
"Yes, Chloe."
"Well, I at least want my hair done."
"You need to make an appointment." He shouted back.
"She will do mine."
"She won't."
"I will ask her then."
"You stay away from her, I warn you, Chloe, don't go in that salon."
"You can't tell me what to do."
"I can."
She started storming towards the salon, I was ready for anything, but when all hell was about to let loose, it was Trish that calmed it all down. She stepped onto the little porch and said.
"Chloe, it's really good to see you again. What are we doing for you today hun?" She stopped in her tracks and looked like she had forgotten what she was there for.
"Umm hi Trish, can I get this hair sorted out I need a new look badly."
"Come in, do you want a sandwich coffee or both?"
"Yes, I haven't eaten yet, that pig of a brother has upset my plans for the weekend." She blushed.
"Trish, I apologise for last night I went overboard with my friends, it's just that we were so excited to meet you."
"And I was just as excited meeting you Chloe, can I ask you something?"
"Yes, anything." She was very willing to chat.
"Will you let my friends Adam and Marko look at your hair and give you their opinions, they are the best stylists in the business, and I want you to have the very best you can get." In the meantime Joe stood at the doorway staring at her, I guess he is waiting for trouble to start.
"That would be so cool thank you." We both looked at her features and hair which was below shoulder length but quite acceptable.
"What do you think Marko?"
"I am thinking a hint of blonde highlights, and a good streamlined shoulder-length cut." I smiled.
"I am thinking Renee Zellweger, Bridget Jones behind the ears Marko." Chloe's eyes lit up and she got what she wanted, a fuss, and she is back in the spotlight again.
"Chloe I won't do that, but I can assure you Marko will do a perfect job of your new look, he's not just a hairdresser, he's a designer. Will you let him do it, he's not often available and I would rather put you in his capable hands today?"
"That's so cool. Thank you Trish I know we are going to be good friends, I just know it."
Marko started with a good wash and condition, then he propped her front and centre to do his magic tricks.
Trish had moved out the front and was talking to Joe, I spotted Kasey leaning on the door post so I went over to maybe fondle him.
Joe and Trish moved our way and we slapped hands. We have dealt with spoilt brats many times, and as long as you put the focus back on them, the attitude disappears almost immediately.
"How the hell did you calm her down?" Joe was very interested.
"Experience Joe, she only wanted to be the centre of attention. I think Trish's arrival intimidates her a bit, she wasn't expecting someone so beautiful in her brother's life. She's the top dog in your home, but we all know Trish has this." I chuckled.
"And you don't mind a little competition my lovely."
"Bring it on, she will settle down when she realises I'm no threat to her. And she and Marko will become great friends I am sure of that." I couldn't stop laughing she has passed Chloe off to Marko.
We finished up for the day and Chloe did look wonderful, she was so happy and she promised Marko she will be in town soon so they could, do lunch. Sam was my first port of call, he was in front of the tv with his friends again, I called him over and gave him the biggest hug and told him I had missed him today.
"You work too much daddy." I heard Trish laugh as she opened a wine and poured me one. Marko said his goodbyes and headed back home after many a thank you, especially from Joe.
We then sat around and Trish did the money we will pass Marko's on to him Tuesday. We had done very well as she passed me two hundred.
"Not a lot of cash Adam all cards mostly but the totals are very good."
"So you are keeping the cash, Trish?" Joe asked.
"Yes Joe, it's the only way to avoid the taxman's sticky fingers."
"I wish I could avoid him, he's a greedy bugger."
"Why don't you lease the farm from your mum at a blushingly top price, then you have a huge write-off and your mum gets a good rent?" A little whisper was heard.
"What?" Joe looked at Kasey.
"Want me to show you?"
"Want a beer?"
"Yes please."
Joe opened beers and Kasey went to work. I walked outside with Trish and we sat with the fire going.
"They will be at it all night." I smiled.
"Let's hope they don't forget which one of us they are sleeping with." She giggled.
"Could be a problem if they get too close." I giggled and was rising.
"We did well today, what was Chloe's problem?"
"Joe says she was devastated when their father died, he had spoilt her rotten but his mum had grounded her, or so he thought. When the dad died she started looking for attention and is what he says a spoilt brat. I have a feeling theres more to the story, it was after the father passed he got involved with the bimbo. Mind you Adam I kind of like her, all she needs is a direction and a decent job or hobby to distract her. I told Joe to loosen up a bit, and encourage her instead of telling her off every time he sees her."
"I guess he's hurting too Trish."
"He is, he loved his dad, but he says he's coping fine. His mum is divine a real lady, the calmest person I have ever met. She thinks Chloe will grow out of it and do good things with her life."
"He should offer her an office job or something."
"Leave it to me, Adam. I have something in mind."
"We don't need another apprentice."
"We do need to replace Anne, any thoughts?" She asked.
"We get a temp in until I can get my head around Anne not coming back."
"I know the feeling we all miss her terribly, yes I will get a temp in then."
"How old is Chloe Trish?"
"I think eighteen, Joe is a little older twenty-six."
"He's a hunk that man of yours."
"So is Kasey, and keep dreaming of that threesome Adam, because it will only be a dream."
I burst out laughing.
"Hey I meant to ask you, what was that thing with Joe and Sam's teddy, he said he had to ask me?"
"He got something wrong that the kids had said. He thought they had called him a baby and didn't want to play with him yesterday. He misunderstood because they all have teddies at home. Joe was staring at him and ted last night, so I stopped him from saying anything. I wanted you to tell him Sam's history and because of it he's never had a real teddy in his life, things like that."
"I see, I doubt whether he would be saying anything like that Adam, his bed is covered in them."
"He has teddies still?"
"Yes, of course, don't you?"
"Well I think I have them at mum's place, maybe Billy has them now."
I left it at that and if Trish wants to say something she can, I guess I misread his intentions.
"What are you two up to?" Joe and Kasey have finally arrived. Sam followed with Buddy he wanted to sit on my lap, and I wanted Kasey to, but my son is so cute, and light.
"What are we having for dinner folks?"
"Stuffed if I know, what do you want son?"
"Pizza daddy, always pizza."
I looked at the others who were drooling.
"Pizza it is then." I smiled.
"Did you reorganise the whole corporation, Kasey?"
"Almost, he's given me a lot to think about. Dad had it all set up years ago and I just carried on, but I will get those codes off to you Kase, and if it's no trouble can you have a look?"
"Of course, I will do anything to distract myself from what I'm doing now."
"You should send it back to them and tell them to finish it."
"Can't do baby, they wouldn't understand it." he grinned.
Joe was a nice guy, he sat on my other side and took Sam.
"I have something I want to show you tomorrow while daddy is at work, do you think you could spare an hour or two in the morning?"
"Yes uncle Joe, where do we going?"
"To my farm, you can see the cows, chickens, and dogs and I have some bears also."
"You do, big ones?"
"Yes big ones, small ones, baby ones, and some growly ones."
"I don't think I like growly ones." he shook his head no.
"You will like these."
"Is it okay if I take him to the farm?"
"Of course it is, you will have to take our car its got his seat in it."
"Good, what time will I pick you up?"
"Can papa come too?"
"Yes, we go nowhere without papa Sam."
I leaned over to Trish and said.
"Shame you have to work, I guess that bed of Joe's will get a good solid working over."
She slapped me.
