Chapter 18

He screamed when he ran into the apartment, his elevator ride was so awesome, dad had to give him another two rides before it stopped at our floor. Kasey stood to attention and Billy did the same as they both saluted.

"At ease men," Dad said very official-like, Billy laughed and Kasey relaxed. Mum nearly fainted when she saw the apartment and dad and Kasey headed with Bill to the balcony to see the sights. He was jumping up and down until Kase realized he wanted him to carry him.

"What a beautiful place Steven, sorry Adam, my God you have some wonderful things." She was looking at my display cases.

"You can play with them later if you like, but in the meantime, coffee?"

"Yes please, no alcohol for your father, he's driving to the airport." I chuckled then turned the coffee pot on.

"Come on I'll show you around."

With that, I took her on a guided tour. I knew she would love it here, before they bought the house in Cleveland we lived in several military houses and her favorite was a very old Edwardian house. Dad and Kase came back and he headed for the bar.

I placed my hand on his and said.

"Billy will have a juice, and dads having coffee with us." I smiled, he got the point and placed the scotch back on the bench.

"Stevie, Stevie can I watch cartoons?"

"Of course you can, let me turn it on for you."

"I got it." He grabbed the remote and the TV burst into life before I realized it. I laughed as he ran to claim the best seat, on the floor with a cushion or two.

"He will be okay mum and dad, where are you going anyway?"

"Flying to Canberra for that dinner at the prime minister's residence, we think tonight is the night for big announcements." She smiled at dad.

"Really? Congratulations, that's awesome."

"Well son, it means hopefully I can spend some time with my family I will be permanently in an office."

"You don't think you will be busy in the role dad?"

"I don't know son, just meetings, awards nights, talks and hosting dinners things like that. I do get to sign some very important documents, make decisions and maybe fly to England to meet the queen, but that's in the future it's a pretty sober job now everything has settled down overseas."

"Meet the queen, well that's something I would like to do." I smiled.

"No son you will be too busy looking after your little brother, so when it happens plan to go on holidays for a week or two." Mum smiled back.

"Awesome." Kasey almost yelled.

I haven't told my parents about Kasey's plan to adopt quintuplets yet, but maybe I will in the future when he finds out how to do it.

"Mum, what are you going to do with your hair tonight" "Well son, we came early because I thought you might give me a hand with it." She looked hopeful.

"Sit at the table mum, I can have you going out in that state."

"Okay darling." I heard a muffled laugh. I went to get my salon bag and fished around for my teasing comb then went to fill my water bottle. Then I lovingly started doing mum's hair, dad was on Kasey's case again.

"So Lieutenant have you an answer for me?" I could hear Kasey groan under his breath, I'm sure he thought he had another week.

"Yes sir, when my contract comes up I will sign up for another six years, in the meantime, I will take a year or two off for studies."

Kasey grinned then had to go on.

"But then again I might leave and do my studies then contract myself out to the Military."

Dad wasn't at all surprised, but he surprised us by saying.

"Well, whatever you decide we are behind you one hundred percent." Kasey's jaw dropped a little.

"Stop teasing John just tell him." Mum slapped dad's arm.

"Okay, here's the plan, your unit isn't going overseas, we already have six over there and they are returning to Australia in a month or two. Your team is going to be broken up. Don't worry about the guys I have a special project for them to do for us, but you are a real problem. We don't want to lose you, but we understand what your trying to do. We also would like to help you with your studies and will enroll you for extra hands-on tutoring, if needed . We need your word you won't leave the military and will work in our legal department when you get your certificate to practice. We also won't hobble you and make you wait around for just military work, we want you to take in civilian clients also. Does that suit you?"

"But Duntroon." I said.

"Not quite, he can be enrolled at Brisbane University part time, and he will have an office in the Fed building down the road, somewhere near mine. There are cases he can help with before he gets his degree and for that he needs a proper work place. Does that suit you son?"

"Yes." I smiled.

In other words, they are giving Kasey a free hand to do what he thinks is best for him which is extremely unusual for the forces.

Kasey had a broad smile on his face and he looked at me. I nodded my acceptance he shook dad's hand.

"There's a proviso son."

Here it comes, I knew it couldn't be that good.

"What is it?" Kase asked.

"Just a small one Major." Kasey pretended to bang his head on the table.

"Too much, the next level is Captain why Major?"

"You need a stronger ranking son and you have earned it. We can't have you in the lower ranks, not if you are dealing with Military matters you need some extra clout my boy."

Kase once again looked at me, and I answered.

"You know you will always be Lieutenant Kasey to me, what title your job gives you will never change that fact, so go for it."

"You don't mind?"

"No of course not, and I will get a really good photo of the ceremony and send it to your father with a note saying, look what your son's achieving now he's not being pushed around." I laughed my head off, Billy came over and patted my leg to calm me down I laughed louder.

"Do you want us to invite him to the ceremony?" Dad offered.

"No!" We both said in unison.

I went back to doing mums hair, and when the hairspray came out Billy had to have a go too, he liked the smell so I put some on his hair too. She used the spare bedroom to change because they were going straight to the dinner party from the airport. Dad used our bathroom and Billy had to help him pin some medals on, there were so many I think he might set the alarms off at the airport. Mum looked a million dollars and Dad was so handsome, we took many photos of them and us if there are any good ones I will get them printed up.

"Now, he won't be any trouble, Adam and Kasey, if you wouldn't mind could you leave the bedroom door open a bit and a light on, sometimes he gets a little scared of the dark, and be aware he might creep in with you both."

"I understand mum, we might even move a bed in with us, otherwise I will be sleeping with one eye open all night."

"If you can son, and he doesn't eat broccoli he's scared of it, he thinks it's going to eat his face off." She laughed.

"Goodbye mum, and have a great night away, we will see you tomorrow." She was giving us last minute orders as dad was gathering up their stuff.

"Private Bill front and center." He roared but not too loudly.

"Yes sir, what are my orders for tonight's?" Billy said.

"Don't get into any trouble, don't eat all the biscuits and don't annoy your brother or Major Kasey."

Billy saluted again and replied.

"Yes daddy sir, three bags full sir."

"Stand at ease private Bill and give your father a hug."

He jumped into dad's arms I could see the love in both their eyes as they hugged each other to bits. There was something familiar about their little games, I can't quite remember, but I think I played the same one with dad all those years ago. Then it was mum's turn I could see a few tears forming in her eyes.

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Yes Adam, it's just that I will miss him, and you, don't forget his prayers."

"Go." I shooed them both out the door. But, oh no, we had to go with them for another elevator ride.

A half-hour later we were back in the apartment, Kasey and Billy were both on the sofa snuggled up watching the big red dog and I was carting a mattress and bedding into our room. I wanted to make the bed up for him nearer to us, so that will mean no wild sex tonight with my boyfriend, but we can frot or something maybe.

I took some photos of the boys and the bed then sent them to mum, that may calm her down a bit.

Taking coffee and milk over to the coffee table, and a few biscuits, I sat and watched the cartoon they were both enthralled in. Now and then Billy would laugh and Kasey was right behind him, it was so sweet he will make a great daddy.

After pigging out on the biscuits he wasn't that hungry when it came to dinner time so I did some chips and gravy for them both to graze on. Kasey had forgotten all about me but I didn't care, he was busy entertaining our special guest.

When bedtime arrived we got him into his pajamas and tucked him up in bed. There was no hint that he missed mum and dad, and Kasey said some prayers he knew while Billy listened. He then opened the book mum had left and started reading a story. I fell asleep listening to Kasey's voice, and when I woke the room was dimly lit by the kitchen light and Kasey and Billy were fast asleep. Kasey on the floor next to the bed and Billy twisted every way but the right way up. I reached over and tapped Kasey's shoulder, he moaned.

"I'm cold, straighten Bill up before you crawl in." After a few minutes, I heard the rustle of blankets and a very hunky man crawled in next to me. I moved my arms about him and said goodnight, then went back to sleep.

Of course, it was a different scene in the morning, Billy was curled up with Kasey and I was left out in the cold. I was lucky they gave me the small scrap of covering I was most appreciative of the thought. I went to have a pee then crept out to start the coffee, closing the door behind me. I turned the light out and sat at the table looking out at the sky, it looks like it's going to be a nice day, we might take him downstairs for breakfast this morning, there were a few messages from mum so I took another photo and sent it to her then messaged her.

"Did he get the gong?"

"Yes, two months he's being promoted."

"Good he deserves it."

"How's Will?"

"Still asleep with Kasey they had a ball last night."

"It's the uniform son, but he still loves you too, lolol."

Kasey came out or rather crept out and the first thing he did was grab me and kiss me good morning, tongue and all, with a small grope thrown in.

"I need this." He squeezed harder.

"Later baby, coffee?"

"Yes please."

"Do you think we should go downstairs for breakfast?"

"Why not, he will enjoy it."

"Okay."

Sometime after Billy came out holding his pajamas.

"Seat Stevie seat I can't pee."

I ran into the bathroom and put the seat up I didn't have a small stool so Kasey held him up and he knelt on the bowl. It worked a treat then I washed him down with a face cloth.

"Did you sleep well baby?"

"Yes Stevie, was good I gets into your bed." He giggled.

"That's okay we liked you to sleep with us."

He jumped off the seat and headed for the TV, again the cartoons started to broadcast into our living room. We washed separately because we didn't want to leave him on his own, I got the face washer out again and did the once over on him. Then we dressed him and told him we were taking him out for breakfast, he didn't seem too fussed, but I think the cartoons were winning. Kasey had a brilliant idea he mentioned we were going for an elevator ride.

That's was it, he jumped up and was at the front door within seconds.

We took him up to the next floor and then to the basement twice, then I was hungry, or should I say Kasey was nearly eating his arm off.

After finding a table away from everyone we settled in to order some food, three boys came in and made a fuss over Billy then we moved tables to a bigger one. Wilson Hargraves and Evans caught his attention by saluting to him, I heard him say to them to stand at ease and to go feed some black sheep.

The boys were going out to do some shopping and to maybe catch up with the girls, we couldn't go anywhere because we didn't know when mum and dad were arriving back. Kids are so easy to look after, all you have to do is turn the Tv on which our waiter did when he spied a little kid at the table. Billy had to move over one seat so he could get a good look. I leaned over and asked him.

"What would you like for breakfast brother?"

"Mummy's eggs brother."

"What kind of eggs does mummy give you?"

"I don't know, just eggs."

I showed him the breakfast menu and he pointed to the picture of scrambled egg's and he wanted toast too. That was easy and the boys and Kasey had already made their minds up, they will be having a big breakfast and I think I will have the same as Billy. I called the waiter over and ordered coffee and the breakfasts.

"He got his promotion orders from what I hear at the Prime Ministers' house last night."

"Who your father?" Evans said.

"Yes, he will be the new Lieutenant-General in a few months, keep it under your hats until it's announced."

"Great news." They all said. I don't think Billy knew what was happening but he did know we were talking about dad because he kept looking around for him.

The meals arrived and I helped him put some tomato sauce on his eggs, he smiled because it was exactly like what mum gets him. He only ate half of it and then his attention span got shorter he was asking when we were going back home the cartoon had finished.

"Do you know what's on this week?" Wilson asked Kasey.

"No, I won't know until we turn up in the morning. Probably the airport, it's pretty busy out there." I didn't want to say anything about dad disbanding the group to them, because I didn't know what he had in mind so I shut my mouth, I think Kasey had the same idea. Billy was antsy so I left the guys there and took him back upstairs, no extra rides, just TV. I sat through the big dog again and we discussed it at length, I enjoyed it. I went and ran a bath I thought I would give him one before the folks turn up. Kasey came back and he sat with him until I was ready.

He didn't fight too much because Kase had lifted him onto the washbasin and had him stripped off in no time. I washed his hair and made sure he was squeaky clean then dried and dressed him in some clean clothes. I thought about washing his old ones but I didn't know what time mum and dad would be here.

They eventually arrived just as Kasey was teaching him how to play cards. His giggling muffled the doorbell but when they walked in he ran to greet them with a boisterous yell.

"Did you have a good time?" Dad asked he nodded yes.

"Was he any trouble Adam?" mum asked as I put the kettle on.

"Not at all mum, he was a perfect angel."

"Good to hear and I see he's had a bath too."

"And his hair washed and blow-dried." I grinned at my brother who was grinning back.

Dad told me about the dinner party and mum was so proud that he was offered the promotion, it was very rare someone had that rank. She gets to do some more entertaining and he will be home more often, they both hoped. Billy sat quietly in front of the TV while we all caught up, Kasey seemed a little more relaxed around dad which I was happy about. I told them that he wasn't homesick or didn't ask for them but whenever their names were mentioned he started looking for them. They were very happy he settled in with us so easily, but I guess the photo of me beside his bed always made me a bit familiar to him.

Kasey had to piggyback him down to the car then dad strapped him in. His cartoons burst into life from the car's DVD player, and as they drove away we were just a nice memory for him. Back upstairs Kasey finished what he had started earlier on and a nice long shower followed by a very nice massage, we managed to kill an hour or so, and a few needs too. He set himself up at the table again, and again those loose papers appeared for him to review.

"Is it going to be easy for you babe?"

"Yes, I think so, but I'm only skirting the small stuff at the moment, the real classes start in two weeks so I want to be well and truly ready for anything."

I started the washing then looked in the freezer for something for lunch, nothing too heavy just a snack type of thing. I found some crumbed fish and started cutting up some potatoes to make some chips. I got a phone call from Trish she was in a big panic, she had more stuff than she realized and was running out of packing boxes. I told her we will bring some over.

"We need to go over to Trisha's Kase, she needs a hand."

"Okay, can we have lunch first?"

"Coming up baby." I started lunch while he had his nose in some paperwork.

We got to Trisha's at two, the place looked like a bomb had hit it, there was stuff everywhere.

"Thank you guys, I have no idea where all this stuff has come from, I guess I had better stop shopping altogether." She grinned. I started making up the cartons while Kasey started wrapping the kitchen plates in some newspapers. I told her we would take a few with us and store them upstairs.

"What's Cody doing at the warehouse?"

"He's having TV's installed and hanging racks, then he's going to put in some change rooms and a counter I think, it should look cool. He said he's ordered some mirrors and the chandeliers will be delivered Tuesday."

I left it in her capable hands, she can update me on Cody's progress.

We worked until Kasey was hungry again and I looked at my watch it was eight o clock, Trish ordered some pizzas and when they arrived the place looked like it had some order to it again.

We loaded up the car with cartons just to get them out from under Trisha's feet, she had received three sets of keys from Dan and she gave us a set so we can dump what we have in her flat, I was exhausted by the time we did that then I eventually headed for the shower.

"No bath Adam with an A?"

"No if you don't mind Kasey with a K, I'm too bushed to do anything but sleep." We jumped in the shower played around a little bit then went to bed. Dan's apartment was a mirror image of mine same details and fittings, Trish will be safe and happy there I just know it.

We started some foreplay but he closed his eyes and I dropped off because I didn't have the energy to go the whole nine yards.

The following week was made up of Trish dropping off cartons then going to work, on the third day the boys moved her furniture in and I helped her make the bed, she only had the one and Evans had one in storage that he made her take for her spare room.

She started spending the night there and the first night we had a small party, there was still a few packing boxes for her to collect then she had to get the cleaners in so she can leave her old digs spotless.

By the time she had moved in Cody's part of the shop was nearly completed, his stock hadn't arrived as yet, but our customers were eagerly awaiting it's delivery from his workrooms. There was a buzz around the new salon and more and more people were calling by to see if the outlet was open, I doubt whether Cody's stuff will sit on the shelf for too long his popularity has soared somewhat in the past six months.

Kasey got a call from the commander while he was in the salon during the week. He insisted I accompany him to the fed building to catch up with Keith.

Hargraves, Wilson and Evans were waiting in the reception area and when Keith appeared everyone stood to attention and he saluted them back. They were stood down and I felt like the fifth wheel so I told Kase I would meet him back at the salon. I figured this meeting was business not pleasure. As I walked back to the salon it was a different sort of journey, many guys and girls said hello to me, some I recognised and some I didn't know at all, but it was nice to get some respect for a change.

Eva asked me what it was all about and I couldn't tell her anything, she was setting up her station for a two hour appointment, hair extension's on a trans lady who was absolutely beautiful, she travels from down the coast just to have our salon do them. I told her I would come and give her a hand when I finish my next client who just wanted a trim and a shave.

Surprisingly enough I knew this man although I have never met him. He was the Commanders secretary, a not bad looking guy with a great smile.

"Hi Adam, thank you for fitting me in today."

"My pleasure..."

"Shannon, my names Shannon I'm the Commanders secretary."

I shook his hand and apologised for not making it my business to introduce myself to him earlier.

"Yes, we have crossed paths quite a few times lately how have you been?"

"Good, Keith's got a meeting with the guys as you know this morning so I'm here to get a little pampering." He grinned.

"Yes, do you know what it's all about?"

"No, he doesn't tell me everything, and the stuff he doesn't tell me is big, like important stuff. He told me the meeting will go on for a couple of hours so I thought I would take some time to myself."

"Good Shannon now what are we doing for you today?"

"I need a good shave and can you do anything with my hair, I believe its long enough to do something with at least." He laughed.

"Let me wash it first, then we can talk about what style will suit you." I led him over to the wash troughs just as Eva's customer arrived. She was stunning and I believe she just landed a big contract for underwear modelling, I was dying to find out how that was all going, but firstly Shannon needs my attention.

I found out he was actually from Canberra, and did his training when Kasey was there although they weren't in the same platoon they knew each other. I was thinking about Kase as a private, he would have been so scared back then, but maybe not.

He has two sisters and a brother still living in the Canberra region and he gets home as often as he can. He was a pleasant guy but there was something about him I was trying to figure out, was he gay? maybe, I wasn't sure. Anyway he was very happy when he left and I washed up and went to help Eva with her extension lady.

"Hi Michelle, how's things with you?" "Good Adam, my agent has got me more work than I can cope with, this is a treat for me sitting around for two or three hours doing nothing." She laughed.

She's one of the beautiful people of Brisbane, she's very much in demand and had the change a year or so ago, since then her modelling career has taken off, it helps that she has a very feminine voice quite undetectable. I helped Eva for the next hour then she started giving the tresses a trim and shape, they looked stunning on this six foot dazzling Amazonian woman.

I hadn't heard from Kasey so I shot a message off to him, but didn't receive an answer. Maybe the commander has sent them interstate and he couldn't ring me, maybe he's sitting at the computer at home and forgot to contact me. I pottered around for the next hour then I decided that I was done for the day and started walking home.

I looked in the café but no, he wasn't there, maybe he's still at the meeting. When I opened our front door there was a party going on, four guys in uniform were trying to drink my home out of scotch,

"Adammmm!!!" Evans yelled.

"Adam with and A, your home at last." Kasey jumped up and came over to hug me. Wilson and Hargraves were sprawled on the sofa but almost came to attention when I walked in.

"So this is where you have been, I was getting a bit worried you would be sent interstate without me knowing."

"No we came straight here to celebrate, we are free and I am now on a year's holiday."

"What?"

"The commander has broken the team up, I get to go to University for a year, Hargraves is going to Canberra to teach new recruits, Wilson is going to be sent to Uni to do graphic design and Evans is either going to get a new team to do the airport, or go back to Uni and do agricultural studies, he can't make up his mind." "So you all have new jobs but still are employed by the military?" "That about sums it up baby, we are free of the bomb squad except Hargraves he's going to teach it."

"You don't mind Hargraves?" I looked at him.

"Not in the least Adam, I told you I am career army and this is right up my alley." He grinned and lifted his scotch and saluted me. Then he said.

"To Lieutenant General Sutton." They all said the same thing and saluted with their drinks.

I felt a bit left out and this news is fantastic. If dad has done this, word had better not get around because everyone in the military might want to bed me to get ahead.

I giggled to myself as I opened a wine, and as if on cue Trish came through the door so Evans picked her up and kissed her while I poured two glasses.

"What the hell's going on here Adam?" She asked. "I will let Evans tell you and then you and him had better have a big discussion."

"All right mister start from the beginning." She sat at the table with Evans.

"Well it's like this, we met an awesome fag in a salon one day with an awesome receptionist."

"Not that story dim wit, start from ten am this morning." She giggled.

"OH, okay sorry Adam." I laughed as Kasey put his arm around me and kissed my neck, well he actually licked it.

Evans told the whole story from start to finish, the commander had told them he was breaking up their squad, he was now in charge of a new one that will be doing nothing but the security of Military bases and airports, he will stay in Brisbane. Kasey and Wilson will take a year off with pay to study, Kase will go into the legal department and Wilson to the design and architecture side of it. Hargraves is very happy to become a teacher, he has as much knowledge as Kasey and Wilson and he loves that side of things. Evans has a big decision to make either stay in security with Keith or go back to University and do agriculture, which I think he should do. Trish's eyes widened as she whispered to me.

"Your father?"

"Yes, but don't tell anyone except Eva." I whispered back.

I was as pleased as punch, with dad manoeuvring the boys, he did a great job. I poured Trish and I another drink and then we got into the party mood. Wilson rang Eva and she turned up a half hour later, then we all had to explain to her what was going on. When it all sunk in she and Wilson had a moment on the balcony, this means she can make plans and I know what that plan will be. They were holding each other for a while then they joined us again.

"So when are you moving in?" I looked at Eva

"How do you know I was thinking that Adam?" I could hear Trish laughing behind me.

"Well that's if the military and you don't mind." I think she blushed.

"There will only be Wilson in that apartment there's still a lot of months to go on the lease, and if you and him decide to stay there when it's up for grabs, let me know. I can extend or make up a new contract. Either way you get to move in here with us, I'm sure Evans has already started moving his gear into Trisha's place." I smirked at my tight lipped friend who is almost settled in to her new apartment.

Eva jumped up and down and her and Wilson clinked glasses and had a toast to each other, my heart gladdened because I know they were a forever couple.

"What do you think Evans will do Trish?" She asked her friend.

"I really don't know Eva, I would like him to do Agriculture at Uni he's got the brains for it but he misses the farm now and his brothers, he's taking me up there next weekend to introduce me to his parents. I have no idea if I want to go live there let's just play it by ear."

Which is what we all did, they were well suited but I didn't want to lose my best friend to a dusty dirty old farm and whenever in the past I have approached the subject of living on a farm with Evans, he avoids my questions, maybe it's a shack in the middle of nowhere and he's a little ashamed of it.

We partied into the night. but like all good things it had to come to an end, the boys had to work in the morning and I needed to go see what Cody Mitchel is up to in his shop, well I wanted to go see his stuff, if it has arrived that is.
