How did I end up here? It was a Sunday and I sitting inside a local community center sitting leaning on a moon bounce while kids screamed inside. I mean I couldn?t really say no when I got a call from the counselor yesterday asking me to volunteer. She said if I did it I could use the hours as extra credit and use it on any class, not that I needed it. I figured maybe Cleo could use it to catch up or something. Anyway, now I?m sitting here trying to focus on my book as I glance at my watch waiting for the 5 minutes to be up and a new group of kids to go in. I found it hard to focus on my book with the kids screaming in the background, and the camera flash every now and then. I held the book open in my hand and looked around. There were kids everywhere and a lot of parents too. No boys my age to stare at while I wait.

My watched beeped. Time to switch the kids. I counted out the next six kids to go in, two of which had returned for the third time. As the kids were climbing in and out I turned back to my book. Excuse me?? I looked up, a man about 5'10 bald, wearing glasses, in perfect shape and on the more muscular side was looking at me. He looked to be about in his mid thirties and was wearing a blue Nike shirt and silver sports pants with a pair of Nike shocks. Through his square glasses I could see he had blue eyes. He reminded me of a bald, muscular, Greg Kinnear. Can my son go in? We have to leave soon, and he hasn?t gone in yet. Now normally anyone that age wouldn?t have attracted me, reminding me to much of my father or of the real world that was waiting for me. There were multiple reasons, but this man just caught my eye. I had learned long ago that age does matter and maybe you can fool yourself, but you can?t fool anyone else. I waved him in trying not to look away from my book. As the boy raced past me to dive into the moon bounce I got a good look at him. He was small with blond hair cut short, blue eyes, and a mischievous grin on his face. It made me smile.

Hey, weren?t you at the PTA meeting? I looked up thinking he was talking to me. Of course he wasn?t. Instead he was talking to a brown haired lady who looked like a model with kids. Oh yeah! I?m Tara, nice to meet you. They shook hands and I realized that I was still noticeably staring. I looked back into my book, but continued to eavesdrop. Are you new around here? I haven?t seen you. Tara said. He hesitated for a second. Yeah, my son is in 1st grade, we started here at the beginning of the semester. She smiled a beautiful smile of blinding white teeth. My son is in first grade too! He acted surprised, and I couldn?t tell if he was serious or not. Well we should get them together sometime. Sounded like an excuse for a date to me. I was waiting for a surprise when a loud smack came from the moon bounce. I turned and the blonde kid who belonged to the hot dad had fallen into a side and caused a mini cave in. Drew, be careful! The Hottie-Dad called over his shoulder. I sighed; I was going to have to go in there to avoid getting in trouble by the other parents. I was taking off my shoes when someone tapped on my shoulder. I turned and there was Hottie-dad. Hey, if you could wear him out a bit before we leave that would be great. I flashed a fake smile too the dad. Glad too. Every kid left that moon bounce with their hair sticking straight up and a dazed look on their face. It was good they were young, because no one would believe them that the mysterious moon bounce worker caused them to free fall for ten seconds before landing back in the moon bounce. I laughed. I was deflating and folding the moon bounce and out of the corner of my eye I saw Model mom and hottie-dad picking up trash. Guess she convinced him to do some real PTA work. Drew was running around with a balloon hitting it up and down while holding onto the string. Drew, time to go! The boy stopped knocked out of his trance by his dad?s voice. He let go of his balloon. And then watched it drift toward the clouds. I watched it for a couple of seconds before I jumped grabbed the balloon in mid-air and jumped back in front of the boy. He looked up at me and smiled a smile with one of his front teeth missing. That was impressive. Hottie-dad said as he approached us. You should?ve run the magicians booth. I smiled a half-hearted smile. It was nothing. He extended his hand. My name is Tim. I shook it. ?I'm Sam.? He smiled a charming smile and I knew I was about to do something I would regret.

6 days later I was standing on the doorstep in the freezing cold thinking about the previous week. Cleo went to school and danced. As expected she was amazing and everyone there was confused about her history as she told them she had never danced before but yet was the one of the best dancers there. She was the only person I had ever met who could become that intimidating in their first week of school. She got to completely skip the new kid phase. Layla had made me feel like I had done that too. Those thought made me sad though, so I pushed them out of my mind. Cleo and I were called the vampires. Not because we were part of some animal sacrificing bloodsucking cult, but because we sat alone at lunch and without much to say we kind of just sat there and stared. Our pale Complexions and our new hairstyles we looked like the vampires from twilight. Beautiful and unapproachable.

The door opened and then there was Tim standing there. He smiled and I walked in the door. I looked around his house. He had a regular sized house, it looked like it had just been moved into because there were barely and decorations on the wall. Just the essentials. He was telling me something, but I wasn?t listening. ?You got that?? I zoned back in. ?He can be kind of a handful sometimes, so call me with any problems.? I smiled to myself. ?I think I can handle it.? If only he knew what I could handle. ?So did you just move in?? I asked. He was looking in the mirror fixing his clothes, which I was just noticing. He was wearing jeans, a red polo button down, with a black jacket over it. He looked hot. ?No, I just got a divorce, and my wife chose to move out, and she took most of the stuff.? I was surprised. He was dating right after a divorce and he didn?t even seem bothered to talk about it. ?How long ago was the divorce?? he was doing a final check. ?8 months ago.? So not so recent I thought. ?Anyway, Drew is in the living room watching tv, and I shouldn?t be gone too late. Just call if you need anything.? I followed him into the living room where he said goodbye to Drew, kissed him on the head, and then walked past me out the door.

I heard a car door open and close, and even though I knew that it was probably Tim, I still tensed up like it could have been an intruder, ready to fight. Drew had been asleep for at least an hour, the boy seemed like he would never tire. Eventually he crashed, but I was exhausted. I stood up and faced the doorway and as Tim walked in a waft of air blew in behind him, and the smell of perfume and wine blew over me. He staggered a bit, but for the most part he didn?t seem drunk. He dropped his keys on the hall table and walked into the living room. ?How?d it go?? he asked then moved towards the kitchen. He opened the fridge, and pulled out a beer and a coke. He popped open the beer on the table, and slid the beer on the table over to me. We took seats on either sides of the table. ?He was good, a lot of energy, but good.? Tim laughed, and that caused me to smile. ?So how did the date go?? Tim took a sip of his beer, swallowed, and rolled his eyes. ?She was nice but I?m not sure she?s the one, ya know?? I scoffed and smiled. ?Not really, my love life has been kind of bad lately.? Another sip of his beer, there was a silence. Which I filled by taking a sip of my Coke. ?Why because your last two boyfriends hate you now?? I choked on my Coke. ?What?? He started laughing. ?There?s a hate page for you on Facebook.? I sighed, I guess I wasn?t too surprised. I wouldn?t let a random guy in my house around my child. ?Well why did you and your wife break up?? A big sip of his beer ?I cheated on her.? I didn?t know what to say but I guess he read my expression. ?She cheated on me first, but it couldn?t be proven. Thankfully she was so caught up in this guy she let me have custody of drew, and then he broke up with her and the judge wouldn?t change his mind. Saying a that her choices showed bad judgment. It all worked out really well.? I didn?t know if that was how I would put it, but I thought the whole Two wrongs don?t make a right applied here. ?So did you keep a relationship with the girl you cheated on her with?? He didn?t move his head, but moved his eyes. So at this angle, he had a very mischievous look on his face. ?Who said anything about it being a girl??
