John Gets What He Needs
Part Two
Chapter Two
"The Price Is Too High"
Evan opened his eyes, only to see that it was still dark, and looked over at the alarm clock to see that it was only 4:48 AM. Awakened from prevalent nightmares that had stalked him for eternity (it seemed to him), once again. He quietly looked over at his large-framed best-friend and partner sleeping soundly, most likely still a bit intoxicated from last night's pizza-and-beer orgy. He continued watching John's soft breathing, motionlessly enjoying the sight of him in serene peace. Thoughts of what was to come had quietly plagued Evan . . . he'd said nothing to John of what he suspected.
Evan slowly and quietly slipped out of bed to go downstairs and start a pot of coffee. There was no use in trying to go back to sleep. Daylight would soon invade the night and he wanted to be prepared for the day he knew was coming. After getting the coffee maker started, he went back upstairs and took his shower as quickly as he could, so as not to wake up John. He finished, got dressed and slipped out of the room, and, going down the hall, he stopped at the guest bedroom door. Slowly, he opened the creaking door and looked in, to see Tom and Andy still sound asleep and curled up together, with the sheets kicked off them. Evan smiled at the sight of the two naked bodies in the darkness and closed the door. He proceeded to check Jacobs's room to see if he had, as planned, stayed out all night. The room was empty, so he closed the door, and then continued on down the hall and downstairs to the kitchen, and prepared his first cup of decaffeinated Joe. Regular coffee wasn't allowed because the caffeine was on his Doctors list of no-no's. The first sip of the hot brew was a welcome taste. Evan sat there holding his cup, staring into oblivion, trying to decide how to deal with what was going to be a difficult day.
He knew what Jacob had done . . . enlisting in the Marines . . . and he kept it to himself. A week ago, he was getting Jacob's laundry out of his room and had seen the Marine brochures half-hidden under a stack of papers. Under that were Jake's enlistment documents, already signed and copied. It was already done, there was nothing to do, he had made his decision . . . and telling John now would have caused more problems, because Jake would have thought that Evan had been snooping in his room. It was Jake's decision when to tell his dad and he'd just have to be strong for the both of them and get through this. Thankfully, when he found the papers, he'd been alone, because he went into a depressive and crying fit thinking Jake could die, in a war that Evan hated. He wanted no part in this shitty-ass war and was sick of hearing everyday on the news of 4 more . . . 10 more . . . and even more dead today. The whole ordeal seemed to him to be a senseless and juvenile attempt to use power by an inept President. Evan made no bones about how he felt about the war, or the Commander in Chief. Nothing but distain came from his mouth on the subject. John finally told him to stop watching the news, since it upset him so much every day.
Evan sat there sipping his coffee, trying to enjoy the quietness of the early morning. Sunlight was just beginning to appear, making its way slowly through the kitchen windows. Evan may have been alone in the kitchen as everyone slept, but, he wasn't quite completely by himself . . . a well-known visitor with a familiar voice was sitting across the table from him. Eri was there, and, as always, was telling him everything would work out. He reminded Evan of the park, with the picnic table next to the stream that John had taken him to, when they'd first begun their new journey together. Eri said that this was the place to go to when the time was right. Evan knew what Eri was talking about . . . he was one of those in his head and he'd been with him these many years, comforting him.
After the lounge-chair incident, when John had caught him talking to Eri, his invisible friend, Evan had made a point to be more careful and to keep his hallucinations to himself. Even to him, it sounded crazy, and was hard to understand or explain. Having John see him as normal as possible was what he wanted, and he was still, even after all these years, very insecure about losing John because of it.
Today was going to be a stressful and eventful day, to say the least, and Evan was preparing himself mentally for the day's challenge. He was going to have to be the strong one, along with Tom and Andy, to get John through this with Jacob. Thoughts of John going down to the recruiter's office and being arrested, from attacking the recruiters working there for talking his son into such a drastic decision, went through his mind. Evan had never seen John's temper, but knew he had one, deep down inside, kept under control and subdued.
He heard someone quietly come into the house through the front door and immediately knew it was Jacob, since Riley didn't bark. He could hear him quietly make his way to the kitchen, seeing the only light on in the house.
"Morning, Ev. What are you doing up so early? Having trouble sleeping again?" Jacob asked, even though he knew the answer. He hugged him from behind, and then started for the coffee pot before Evan began to answer.
"Morning, Jake ... glad you made it back safely from your all-nighter. I just woke up early and wanted to be ready for the day that's to come," he said, looking at Jacob as his back was to him while he was pouring himself a cup of coffee. Jacob stopped dead in his tracks, hearing what and how Evan had said what he had.
Jacob turned around, looked into Evan's teary eyes, and asked, "How long have you known, and does dad know yet?"
Evan looked down at his coffee mug so he could control himself, and took a deep breath, then said, "I just figured it out myself a few days ago, and no, your dad doesn't know yet."
"Ev ... you've got to help me make him understand . . . this is what I've decided to do with my life, and I'll go to college after my tour is done. You've got to help me make him understand I'm just not ready yet for more school," Jacob said, sitting next to Evan.
"Jake, I'm gonna have to help him through this, it's what people do when they love each other. You know he's always been here for me," Evan said, with a sad expression on his face.
"Thanks, Ev, I knew I could count on you to be on my side," Jake said, as he hugged him from the side.
Evan jerked away from him, and the sadness grew into anger . . . he stared at Jake and began spilling his guts. All the things he thought about saying just started coming out.
"Your sides . . . are you damn crazy, kid? I'm so mad at you I could just . . . just . . . shit I don't know, I just can't believe you'd do this, and especially at a time like this? Don't you watch the news and see what a mess it is over there and how big of a mistake it was to go there in the first place? Fuck, Jake, you know what it put me through when my nephew was over there . . . your cousin . . . in harm's way, every day, in that shit hole."
"I thought you'd understand, Ev ... I thought you'd be proud of me serving in the Marines and fighting for our country," Jake said, trying to defend himself.
"Jake, I'd be proud of you no matter what you did . . . I love you like my own son. I just don't want to see you hurt or your dad loosing it if anything happens to you. Jake, don't you know YOU are his world? Yes . . . he loves me, and we have a special, wonderful bond, but you are his only son, his blood . . . he'd do anything for you, you're his world," Evan said, looking into Jake's eyes.
"I know, Ev, it's just something I have to do. And besides, this is all water under the bridge, because I'm already signed up," Jake said, staring back.
"Yeah, I know . . . I saw your papers in your room when I was getting your laundry," Evan admitted.
"I hoped you would. I knew you'd see them and I figured you'd tell dad so I wouldn't have to. I've been putting it off because I'm afraid he'll be disappointed in me. I don't think I could leave, knowing he was sorry about how his son turned out," Jake said, as he sipped his coffee and stared out the window.
"So let me get this straight . . . you want to become a Marine, but you're afraid to tell your dad? Something I'm missing here?"
"It's not that I'm afraid to tell him, I just don't want to hurt him. I know he's made a lot of sacrifices for me and I really appreciate him a lot. I love you both . . . you know, Ev?"
"I know you do, Jake, and we love you, too," Evan said, as he tousled Jake's hair.
"Guess I won't be doing that anymore, after the Marines get a hold of that pretty head of hair of yours," Evan chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
"Guess not," Jacob said, smirking at Ev.
Evan smiled and added, "I won't have to wash all those stained aromatic socks you seem to like to use as cum rags when you wack off anymore either."
Jacob looking embarrassed and caught off guard put his face into his hands and just said, "Oh shit!"
Evan laughed and tried to reassure Jacob that he was just razzing him and it was more than a normal thing to do. Jacob knew it was normal, bit didn't think Evan had noticed all these years that he had done that into his socks while doing his laundry.
Try to change the subject seeing Jacob was totally mortified, Evan said, "Look . . . your Uncles Tom and Andy are going to be here too . . . and they'll help your dad keep from snapping you like a twig when you tell him, so don't worry."
"Very funny! That's ... um . . . really reassuring."
"Well, with them here, too, your dad will probably be madder at them for not telling him."
"How did you know they already knew . . . they tell you?" Jacob inquired, feeling a bit confused and hurt that they would betray his secret.
"No . . . Tom gave it away that he knew what you'd done, when he was talking to me last night. You know he's easier to read than Shakespeare for me. He could never hide anything with his telling eyes," Evan smiled. "You know your Uncle Tom always says exactly what's on his mind and doesn't bother to sugar coat it to protect anyone's feelings, so when he's trying hard not to say something it shows."
"What is it with you two? I swear there's this vibe you two have," Jake laughed.
"I don't know, he just trusts me and feels guilty when he's keeping something from me. It always shows in his eyes and demeanor."
"If people didn't know you two, they swear you hated each other's guts. But it's all just a game with you two. You both are defiantly two weird dudes." Jacob laughed.
"I know it's a long story, but with those two here, too, we can get all the drama over in one big scene. Your dad's not gonna be pleased that they didn't tell him what you were planning on doing. Even though I know, it wouldn't have made a difference . . . you're just as stubborn as your dad is, once you two have made up your minds you're gonna do something," Evan chuckled.
"Yeah ... I guess you're right. Speaking of stubborn, what about Grandma? She gonna be here too?"
"No . . . she's all yours, to tell on your own."
"Shit . . . she's gonna go berserk like dad is," Jacob said, frowning.
"Your decision . . . your problem, Jakey boy!" Evan laughed.
"Jeez, thanks a lot . . . any other help you can give me?" Jake asked half-sarcastically.
"Well when you were younger ... I remembered you'd put on about 4 pairs of underwear on under your jeans when you thought your dad was gonna spank you for something bad you did. I don't think that's gonna help in this case Jake." Evan laughed.
"Ok enough with all the embarrassing stuff I have done already." Jake said while he smirked at Evan.
"Jake, I love you, and I wish this wasn't something we had to go through. But we're family, and as soon as your dad cools off, he'll be right behind you, supporting you all the way. He may not like it, but he'll be there for you."
"Thanks, Ev ... I love you, too, and I just want you to know this . . . in a way, you've always been sorta like my mom . . . not really a mom, but definitely my other parent. I don't know, really, how to describe our relationship, but I'll miss you a lot when I'm gone. Promise me you'll take good care of dad for me?"
"You know I will, Jake."
"Have you told your mom yet?" Evan inquired, knowing that bringing her up wasn't pleasant for Jake.
"Fuck her . . . Ev . . . She only calls when she feels guilty for not being in my life. I could care less if she knows or not."
"Well, it's always been your call, bub."
"I know . . . I just have no feelings for her. I've always had the best two parents a kid could have. I don't need her or her guilt-ridden chats on the phone once every two years."
"Jake, it's not her fault. Some people are just different. Having a child doesn't make a person a parent, love and sacrifice does. Some just don't have what it takes to be that, it has nothing to do with you. You know that, don't you?"
"Yeah . . . I understand I have what I always needed, my family that's here. You and dad gave me all the love I need, and Grandma and Uncle Tom and Andy are my life. I love you all and will miss you a lot when I leave."
"Let's not talk about leaving right now, I'm not ready to hear about it or prepared to see you walk out that door just yet."
"Sorry, Ev...are you gonna be okay and deal with all this alright?"
"It's gonna tear me apart, Jake, but I have to be strong for your dad. I owe him that. He's always been there and been strong for me when I needed it."
Evan looked at the clock and couldn't believe how the time had flown while they'd talked. It was already going on eight AM. "Look . . . Go take you a shower and I'll make some breakfast a bit later, after I awaken the dead around here. I'm gonna go get everyone up in an hour and we all can have a big breakfast together, like we always do on Christmas morning."
"Sounds great Ev . . . I'm starved. I'll come down and help when you're ready." Jake exclaimed, as he rose and gave Evan a big hug, taking Evan's breath away from him as he squeezed.
"Dang, kid, you're getting strong! The Marines are sure getting a good one here. Won't be much work to get you Marine-ready, kiddo!" Evan chuckled.
"Dang straight," Jacob proclaimed, as he flexed his muscles while turning and leaving the kitchen.
Jacob went quietly upstairs to his room and closed the door. Evan followed behind, to the guest room, and quietly opened the door to see both of his friends still asleep, and their bodies contorted all over the bed. Both of them must have gotten hot while sleeping, because they'd kicked off the covers and their nice-looking, naked bodies were in Evan's line of sight. Evan quietly walked up to Tom's side of the bed, and gently ran his hand across Tom's hairy stomach and down to his flaccid cock, gently wrapping his hand around it and massaging it to life. Tom was almost fully hard when he began to wake from the pleasant feelings down in his groin. He slowly smiled and opened his eyes and looked up at who was playing with his cock and quickly rose up and covered himself, yelling," Evan, what the fuck are you doing?"
Tom's voice woke up Andy next to him, and he could see Evan standing next to the bed, with Tom trying hard to cover himself up. Andy never bothered to even hide his nakedness.
"Morning sleepy heads . . . Sorry, Tom. I couldn't resist giving that nice thing a few tugs to wake you up."
"Tugs my ass, you perv . . . you were whacking me off," Tom snarled, trying to act like he was pissed but more just embarrassed.
Andy smiled at Evan and began laughing, and then looked over at Tom and said, "Jeez, Tom, it's not like he hasn't seen it before."
Tom didn't say a word, but only looked daggers at his naked partner. Tom's and Evan's earlier hookup was rarely brought up, and Tom wanted to keep it that way.
Andy stopped chuckling and began to tell Evan, "Hey, we need to get out of here and get home; we have stuff we need to get done today."
Evan cut him off as he sat on the edge of the bed and said, "You two aren't going anywhere. We're all eating a huge breakfast and hanging out for the day here. You can wear what you had on yesterday, I washed your clothes already this morning and they're good to wear again. Hell, you weren't in them long, anyways, since we were in the pool most of the evening last night."
"Sorry, Evan, but we really need to get home today . . ." Evan looked at Tom and quickly cut him off, saying, "Jacob's already home, and you two are going to be here to help me get John through this day."
"Shit . . . Jacob already told him, Andy," Tom said.
"No . . . you did, last night . . . well, sorta. I just didn't know you knew until last night."
"Fuck . . . See, Andy . . . I told you he can fucking read me like a book."
"Well, maybe a pop-up book, but, yeah, you were really transparent last night."
"Fuck you, Beavis" Tom snarled.
Andy laughed at Evans quip and at Tom's embarrassment.
"I wouldn't be laughing, Officer Andy . . . John's gonna be as pissed at you as he is with Jacob for not telling him about this," Evan blurted out.
"I know, Evan, and we're sorry for not telling you guys. Jacob had us wrapped around his finger again, like he always has, when he wants something from us; we just used really bad judgment."
"Andy, I know how Jacob can be when he's like that, trust me . . . he's done it to me more times than I'd like to admit. John's not going to be happy with me, either, for knowing before he did. Look, he can't kill all of us if we stick together and help him get through this. We really need you guys more than ever to get through this day. I can imagine John'll need us more than he'll be mad at us."
"But just in case . . . I think I'm having Riley stick close by me the whole day for protection," Evan half-heartedly laughed.
"Good idea . . . what do you want us to do?" Andy asked.
"Use the hall shower and get dressed, and I'll get John up, and we can all eat a good breakfast. It should be ready in about an hour. See you two in a bit, I'm off to go wake up John now."
"Okay, Evan, see you in a bit," Andy said
As he left and shut the door, Tom looked at Andy and said, "You think we should sneak out before he wakes up John?"
"Coward!" laughed Andy.
"Hey, I'm not the armed one . . . who's going to protect me if he goes ape-shit. I know John . . . he's going to explode." Tom whined, lying back down on the bed.
"Don't worry, I'll protect you," Andy said, as he leaned over and kissed Tom on the lips. Tom, caught off guard, jerked back and then got an evil grin on his face and said, `If you want to kiss something, why don't you finish what Evan started," and pulled the covers off him, showing his morning wood, ready for action. Andy laughed as he went down to do his best to remedy the situation. Tom leaned back against the head board and put his hand on the back of Andy's crew cut head and pushed him down on himself with a moan.
Evan entered the master bedroom and could see that John was still passed out. He got into bed next to him and began snuggling up to him, and ran his hand over his hairy chest and down to his soft cock, and began massaging his second one for that morning. Only, this one was much more familiar to him, much thicker and a bit longer. A smile formed on John's face with his eyes still closed and he quietly said with a smile, "You better hurry, Andy, before Evan comes back and finds us." Evan squeezed John's cock firmly, and John winced in pain as he opened his eyes and quickly exclaimed, "Joking . . . I was joking . . . honest, Ev."
"You better be, Mister!"
"What? You don't think I can tell who's in bed with me? I wasn't that drunk last night. Nice way to wake up though . . . you're not gonna stop, are you?"
"First, let's get you up and into the shower, and I'll finish what I started, in there."
"Dang, Ev, you always like it in the shower! We do it in there more than anywhere in the house."
"It's just sexy to me, to be standing next to you all wet and feeling your skin slippery with soap and all. I can't help it; it just turns me on to be in the shower with you. It always has."
"I know; I like it too, bud. It's like we're the only two on the planet, and the world stops when I'm with you," John smirked at Evan.
"I love you, John."
"I love you back, Ev."
"You ready for that shower now?" Evan asked.
John looked down to his hard cock and then looked back up, and asked, "What do you think?"
