Recap from Chapter 6

The men all left the cabin and walked to the fire pit. The wood had burnt down once again with the rocks now glowing bright red. A couple had shattered but that wasn't too bad. You don't want to be near the fire pit when one of those rocks blows because of the potential for flying embers or rock chips hitting you. The rocks must have had water in them somehow, and it heats to steam to blow them apart. It usually sounds similar to a civil war cannon firing when they blow in the fire.

Someone had set up Jared's alter table next to the lodge. He placed his leather bag onto it carefully and then went into the lodge for a last minute check. The men had done a good job and everything was ready. Jared grabbed the wooden bucket from the corner and brought it out.

"Darren, would you please fill this and return it back inside the door of the lodge" asked Jared indicating the wooden bucket. "Please make sure the wooden ladle is in it as well."

Darren ran to the dock to get clear water and filled the bucket, returning quickly and placing it as instructed, with the ladle in it.

"Gentlemen are we ready?" asked Liam.

They all looked like kids inside a candy store as they answered a resounding "'yes."

Chapter 7

The Transformations within the Sweat

"Darren, you and Liam must understand if you feel you must leave to feel free to do so at any time. Before you get up, for convenience we will use an English phrase which you say before you leave. 'Exit please' will work this time, does everyone understand?" Jared asked. They all nodded their heads.

Jared continued. "If anyone feels ill or needs help, please speak out immediately and we will do anything we can to help. The sanctity of human life is first over continuing the sweat ceremony."

Jared looked at every one at a time before continuing. "The order in which we will enter the lodge is Liam, Tyler, Troy, Darren, Josh and then me. I will smudge each one of you before you go to the entrance. At the entrance before we go in, each of us must bow as a sign of respect for the Creator and Mother Earth. Then move inside in a clockwise ring around the rock pit inside and can sit down you find your spot.

"Although there is much tradition surrounding the sweat lodge, there are also differences in the ceremony. We have 2 new brothers here tonight so I ask for patience from us all and the Creator while they learn the ways we use here" said Jared.

"This the last call for a drink of water or taking a piss before we go in! Liam, Darren, I would suggest the two of you guzzle a bottle of water before you go in. We can't take the bottle in with us" finished Jared.

The men all grabbed a bottle of water and drank it down, and then Troy and Liam ran over to piss into the bushes. Jared walked to the alter in front of the sweat lodge, spreading the contents of his smudging bundle out for use.

"Ready?" asked Jared of everyone.

"Ready!" they all replied. Jared motioned them forward. None of the men were wearing their loin cloths and it was obvious the excitement of the ceremony was causing all of them to be in a semi-hard condition. It looked sexy having them standing in front of Jared in a line, every one of them with their dick extended and at 45 degrees.

Jared lit the bundle and smudged each one of them as they approached and as they were completed, he nodded to them and they went to the lodge, bowed and went in. Jared smudged himself and then snubbed the bundle out and placed it in the bowl. He bowed before entering and took his place. He had brought the pipe with him, placing it on his leg. He opened one of the birch bark bundles containing tobacco which he packed into the pipe with expertise. He lit the pipe and puffed on it. He then chanted out loud for a moment and stopped, handing the pipe to Liam.

"The tobacco is sacred. Liam, you may have to light it again but take a couple of puffs into you and then say out loud a prayer or tell us why you are here this evening" explained Jared.

Liam took the pipe, his hands shaking. He lit a match, put the pipe in his mouth and puffed on it a couple of times. Holding the pipe in both hands, he suddenly raised it up towards the roof of the lodge.

Jared noted this with interest and thought to himself "Liam's memories are coming closer and closer to the surface."

Liam then spoke "Creator, I am new to this. You have already healed me and I am learning to be your servant. I wish to learn the knowledge and your ways to serve you better. I am here with Jared, the first person who I have truly loved and four other men who I am learning to love as brothers. I ask for your blessings to be placed upon them in their lives" Liam finished. He then handed the pipe and matches to Tyler.

Tyler smoked the pipe and then did the same as Liam had done with raising it towards the roof and back down. "Creator, I am here with my brother's new and old, and my true love Troy. I am your servant but I ask you grant me the vision to become a better man while doing your work, doing my job, loving my brothers, loving Troy and loving myself.' He handed the pipe to Troy.

After smoking the pipe, Troy spoke. "Creator, I too ask for granting me the wisdom to be a better man in my daily life and how to serve you better. I wish to thank you for your gift of love to mankind which I can share with my brothers, my boyfriend Tyler, as well as those who I come into contact with doing your work." He handed the pipe to Darren.

Darren's hands were shaking so much he couldn't light the pipe. Both Josh and Troy leaned in to help him by steadying his hands and touching his shoulder to reassure him. Darren settled down and smoked it. "Creator, I must be honest with you. I am very new to this and feel very nervous to make a mistake to get you mad at me. You saved my life and I thank you for that. What I thank you for even more is the way you saved my boyfriend Josh's life when he hit his head. I am praying I am good enough to do your work." Darren breathed out a sigh and relaxed. He handed the pipe to Josh.

Josh smoked it and then said "Creator, I thank you for your blessings on our family sitting here under you this evening. I know every one of them; including me have been blessed with your interventions so we may continue life. You have spared me twice and I pledge to you once again to be your servant. I ask you to bless our family and allow us a group to act as a conduit for your knowledge and gifts in your service." Josh handed the pipe back to Jared who smoked the last of the tobacco and then placed the pipe in front of him on a special holder. The pipe was in position next to a talking stick which may be used later on.

Jared looked at each man individually and nodded his head. He turned to Liam and said "come with me, and I'll show you how to get the rocks."

They both crawled out and went to the fire. Jared showed him how to use the shovel to get a rock and carry it to the lodge and to place it in the ring.

"If you drop one, move it to the side of the fire and get another one. We need about 5 each time we sweat." Jared watched him retrieve and place the rest of the rocks in the lodge. He indicated to Liam where to put the shovel and to throw a couple more pieces of wood onto the fire. They both returned to the lodge. Jared pulled the flaps closed.

Jared lifted the talking stick and shook the rice inside. "This is a talking stick and we may use it tonight during our sweat. Whoever has it in their hand speaks, and no one else does unless you are feeling ill or need to leave."

The inside of the lodge glowed from the red hot stones. Jared reached and pulled the ladle out of the bucket full, pouring it on the rock representing the west, repeating the procedure for the rocks representing the north, east and south. He poured 2 more ladles full on the rock in the centre representing the grandfather. The lodge filled with steam rapidly and completely.

Jared spoke aloud, but could barely see the others in the lodge. "I will chant prayers. The first round of the four we will complete is for the west. Each session of sweating represents each of the four directions and focuses on the different spiritual qualities brought by each."

As if Liam was in a trance, he spoke out "The west or season of fall is represented by the colour black. We are to look into ourselves deeply for the things we need to change as the sun is setting. There are two totems for the west; the beaver which works as a team to achieve their goals and the snake which sheds its skin to remind us we must do the same as we change to new ways."

Although the men we getting used to Liam and his almost prophetic information, it continued to surprise them when he spoke to share his knowledge. Jared just smiled and nodded at Liam.

Jared began to chant and pray. The men in the lodge felt the wet heat of the steam and the dry heat from the rocks, and were sweating profusely. It felt good to them as the sweat poured down their bodies and into the ground. Jared poured more water on the rocks and the steam returned, filling the lodge like it had the first time. He continued to chant and pray.

Suddenly, the lodge shook violently. The sides and top of the lodge were moving back and forth in no particular pattern. Suddenly, the men all had a vision of a wolf jumping through the lodge wall and sitting in front of Darren. Darren was actually startled and started to move backwards from his spot being unable to comprehend the line between reality and his vision. Josh and Troy felt him jump and gently put their hands on each of his knees in reassurance. Darren settled down quickly. Jared poured more water on the rocks to increase the steam.

The entire group heard the scream of a bald eagle from somewhere above the lodge. It screamed a couple more times and it swooped right through the lodge wall, landing on Liam's shoulder. Liam screamed out in shock and moved toward Jared for protection. Jared's hands touched Liam's knee providing reassurance.

Jared began to chant again and as the chant was beginning to become familiar to the men, they joined in with him.

Jared stopped the chant. He raised his hands up into the air, palms up and said "Creator, you honour us by sending spirit guides for the men of our family who had yet received them. You brought a powerful guide to both of them, and it is my honour to introduce them to their guides."

"Darren, your guide is the wolf because of your intelligence and your ability to act upon your instincts in a variety of situations and it explains why you are good as a firefighter. You are not afraid to act or express on those instincts in the service of your brothers, your family, your community or the Creator. Troy, Tyler and Josh also have wolf spirit guides and there is strength in a pack, especially when you lack trust in yourself. In a pack, you all stand together and help a weaker member during this period of self-doubt. You have a powerful totem Darren."

The steam was dissipating enough to see Darren's face. There were tears sliding down his face as his eyes were locked onto the eyes of the wolf in front of him. The wolf leaned forward and licked Darren's face with his long wet tongue. The wolf stood and jumped through the wall between Josh and Darren, causing them to reflexively move out of the way.

Jared then spoke to Liam. "You have been chosen by the eagle, also a very powerful totem in different ways than the wolf. This totem will assist you as you learn your role to work in both the spiritual realm and our world. Your clear vision of life and objectives complements your abilities to be successful in whatever you try to do. Your abilities complement those of the bear, the healer. Our relationship will allow those two totems to work together, blending our strengths and become stronger together."

The eagle turned his head and screamed at Liam. He then dug his talons into Liam's right shoulder. Liam jumped and automatically reached for his shoulder. By the time his hand grabbed his shoulder, the eagle had jumped over to Jared's shoulder. Once again he dug his talons into Jared's shoulder except Jared didn't move. The eagle screamed and flew out through the wall.

Jared chanted a new prayer for a moment, and then said to everyone "the first round has ended. We may go outside and jump into the lake to rinse the sweat off and drink some water."

He opened the door and led everyone outside. The six men ran for the lake and they dove in. The chatter between them was very animated, talking about their vision. They were so full of energy in the water. It was then Liam noticed red marks like a minor skin abrasion from the eagle's talon on his right shoulder.

"Jared, look at my shoulder. I saw his talons pierce both of our shoulders but there are no injuries other than a slight redness" stated Liam.

Jared looked at Liam's shoulder and his own while the rest of the guys gathered around them. "You felt the pain of the eagle as it bonded with you, and then I felt it when it bonded with me."

"It was a vision, not real. But I know what I felt" stated Liam.

"Liam, you have a very strong totem. It marked your right shoulder and my left shoulder in our visions. Have you ever noticed how we stand together; it's always with your right side and my left side together. He approves of us and marked us so no one else will get between us. He has marked his people to show all who our guide is. We will see the scars from his marks only when we are in the spiritual world."

Darren spoke up "I know when that wolf licked my face it felt as real as if it had been done by a regular dog. I felt the wetness and roughness of his tongue as he dragged it up my face."

"Wow" said Josh.

Josh spoke up "How long were we in there? It didn't seem to be very long."

"Looking at the position of the sun, the width of the clouds, the shadows from the trees, the frequency and pitch of the waves on the lake as well as my watch hanging on the tree outside the lodge, 45 minutes" Jared replied.

The boys all started laughing when Darren said "Dammit! You had me going until you said watch."

Jared then spoke "Get some water into you guys; we will be doing the second round in a few minutes."

They all drank 2 bottles of water each and then looked at Jared for direction. Jared motioned for them to resume their ceremony.

The second round was completed and it had an emphasis on courage, endurance and honesty calling upon the north power. The third round calling upon the power of the east for wisdom was completed as well.

After the guys consumed more water after the third round, Jared called them together. "This is the final round of the ceremony. I will be honest with you and after the unexpected visitors in the first round, I am not sure what to expect in this round. Remember where you are and we are family, here to support each other." Jared held his hand out and every one placed their hand on top.

The men were all in position and the last set of hot rocks were glowing in front of them. Jared started to pour water on them and they sizzled loudly in response. Jared started to chant and the rest joined in.

Jared spoke "this is the round for the south. The power of the south is in spiritualism and healing. We need use all the qualities we have gained from the west, the north and the east for us to grow as a person and to mature in the way we see and deal with things. This leads into the healing of the heart and spirit."

Jared poured more water onto the rocks and started chanting. The men joined in, repeating the verses over and over. Jared poured more water onto the rocks. The heat in the lodge was the highest it had been so far. No one could see each other this time through the steam but they could hear the chanting. Soon, Jared was chanting alone. The steam had dissipated enough now to see each of the men in the lodge as they were staring into the rocks. Jared also looked into the rocks and concentrated to increase the strength of his spiritual vision. Immediately he saw Liam talking with his parents. Tyler was talking with his grandparents while Troy was talking with his dad. Darren was talking with a man about the same age but possibly a little younger and dressed in combat fatigues. Jared then sensed it was his brother. He made a note to himself to talk with Darren about this.

Jared poured more water onto the rocks and the steam rose once again. In his mind, Jared heard the conversations going on in the lodge and how they were coming to an end. Jared could feel the physiological and emotional relief in every one of the other men in the lodge as they released their deepest fears and secrets which had been bottled up and pushed down inside each one of them. The feeling of purity in their heart and spirit was filling the lodge. Finally, all the conversations had finished.

Jared was going to end the session but he was forced by an invisible hand to reach out, adding more water on the rocks. The lodge shook violently he could see the others looking around the inside. Suddenly, Jared's grandfather was standing in front of him.

"Grandfather, you honour me by your presence."

"Jared, I am at home in meditation and smudging when I had a vision of your ceremony. I have entered my vision to visit with you. Jared, you have learned well son and I need to tell you the Great Buffalo came to me with a message for you" Grandfather said.

Jared looked quickly around the lodge and realized everyone was seeing the vision as well and they were all staring at him.

"I thank you Grandfather for your praise but my actions were the result of your teaching, and you did that well" replied Jared.

"Jared, the great buffalo has bestowed a great honour upon you. He is allowing you to be called Sacred Medicine Man of the people. With that responsibility and honour, you will receive more gifts from him to use on his behalf. They'll be given to you as the needs arise and when they can be used" Grandfather said.

"I am humbled by these gifts, but I do not believe myself worthy of the honour" stated Jared.

Grandfather turned and asked all of the men present "Is he worthy?"

All of the men replied "yes" in a chant.

"It's settled Jared. The Creator has spoken as have your friends" said Grandfather.

Jared had tears in eyes looking at the vision of his grandfather in front of him. Everyone in the lodge could feel the love flowing between Jared and his Grandfather.

His Grandfather spoke "Jared. Come home soon for a visit, and bring the new boyfriend. I want to meet the man who has the ancient knowledge and who you have exchanged hearts with. Jared, you and Liam will become very powerful together as you grow with your knowledge. I also wish you would bring the men of your tribe or family as you call them to me for a visit. It is time they did their spiritual quest on our sacred lands with their spirit guides. We can feast and sweat together after as family."

"Thank you Grandfather. May the peace of the Creator be with you in your life and journeys" said Jared. As the vision of his Grandfather faded, he said "I love you Jared" before disappearing entirely.

Jared then looked around the lodge and said "let us give thanks in silence for what we have gained during this ceremony."

There wasn't a sound in the tent for 2 minutes. Jared then declared the door open and last one in the lake is a rotten egg.

The men had rinsed themselves off and drank the last of the bottled water. They had consumed 48 bottles of water between them since the sweat started.

Jared was standing alone, deep in thought standing near the fire and staring into it. The rest of the men came to him and hugged him.

They had all stood together for a moment when Josh asked "Is anyone beside me hungry?"

"Josh, you are always hungry" said Darren. A loud smack of an ass cheek was heard and Darren yelping. "Josh, you are going to get such a spanking........" he yelled.

"That one wasn't me" Josh pleaded. Troy broke from the group and ran for the cabin. As Darren was watching him, his ass was slapped 3 more times by people running by him and up to the cabin. Jared suddenly stopped running and turned around, heading back to the sweat lodge to gather his sacred objects. With them in hand, he ran to the cabin.

"Hey guys, get the BBQ lit, I have more steaks in the fridge and there is lots of salads and bread. There's also potato's in the oven and they should be ready. I did it this afternoon after my meditation was completed" said Jared.

"Jared, you weren't kidding when you said your Grandfather contacted you in visions. Is your plan cheaper than my damn cell phone?" asked Liam

Jared smiled and pulled Liam into a hug, then smacked the back of his head playfully. "I can't believe you asked that" laughed Jared.

The men got the steaks cooked, the food spread out and they attacked it with the appetites only equated to hyenas attacking a wounded zebra. They made short order of all the food, leaving only a pile of debris on the table. They were all sitting around the table on the deck silent, but very content.

Darren let out a belch which was of such quality it resonated through the table. Josh leaned over and slapped the back of his head.

There was another belch heard, this time from Tyler.

"Amateurs" said Troy and proceeded to let out a belch of such volume and duration one would have thought it was not humanly possible. The men applauded.

Jared looked at them all and then let go a sound which sounded like trumpet, except it wasn't a belch. He sat there with a very satisfied smirk on his face.

Liam put his hand over his mouth "Oh my god Jared, that's terrible." He promptly let go his own fart.

Josh stood up and looked at his friends "is this a re-enactment of the campfire scene from Blazing Saddles?" He then stuck his ass out a bit and joined in with his own contribution.

"Good god. No more beans for you guys" Tyler said waving his hands in front of his face. They all started laughing uncontrollably.

Liam stood and gathered up some debris "I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to clean up and its bed time for me." Everyone stood and joined in the cleaning. It didn't take long, and soon they realized they were all worn out from the activities throughout the day, but especially after the sweat. The men all soon headed off for bed with their boyfriends.

Josh and Darren were lying in bed together, Darren spooning his boyfriend from behind.

"Josh, I thought I had lost you this afternoon" Darren said quietly.

Josh turned his head towards Darren and spoke "It wasn't my time and Jared won't let it happen before my time Darren."

"I'm beginning to understand what people mean when they say that Josh. I've learned so much about life tonight Josh. I'm beginning to realize there's a higher entity and he does care about us. I don't know how to describe it except I didn't think something like guardian angels existed until today Josh. Is Jared an angel and Liam learning to be one?" said Darren.

Josh rolled over and faced Darren. "No. Although it's easy to understand why you'd think they were. They are as they say, just men who are the conduits for the Creator's will and powers. You've begun to learn Darren, but there's so much more to this and it'll take time. Open your mind and heart, and it'll help you to comprehend."

"I will Josh." Darren looked into Josh's eyes and smiled. "Falling asleep with you being the last l thing I see before I close my eyes is perfect Josh."

Josh tenderly kissed Darren, and they both fell asleep, holding each other.

The men all got up at different times in the morning. By mid-morning, they all found themselves sitting in pairs on the deck, picking at the remnants of their breakfast.

"What's up for today?" asked Troy.

There was a long pause and Jared said "Not much, a day to relax by waterskiing, fishing, swimming or laying in the sun. I want to cut some wood and bring it in to make sure there is enough for the fire pit and the house."

"I'd like to help" said Tyler. "It's a good workout." The rest volunteered as well

The group cleaned up the breakfast mess, and at Jared's insistence they all got into clothing for cutting wood. Jared led them past their parked vehicles and into a large Quonset behind the treeline. Inside was large pickup up truck and all the equipment they would need to get wood. The Quonset was garage height but long enough to park 8 vehicles. In the back was a work shop area with chainsaws and safety equipment.

"Hey hose puller, do you know how to run one of these?" asked Jared.

"Yes, of course. I love running a saw" he replied.

"Grab that one" Jared said pointing "and the chaps, helmet and muffs are over there" as he pointed another direction.

The men checked the equipment out and loaded it into the back of the truck.

Josh asked if he and Troy could use the quads and Jared nodded his head. They grabbed helmets and started them to make sure they ran. The rest of the guys got into the truck and Jared backed it out. He headed down the laneway and turned onto a cutline leading into another part of the forest. After a few minutes, they arrived at an area which looked like the trees had been snapped off by the hand of God pushing them down.

"What caused this?" asked Liam, amazed at the destruction.

"It was a plough wind. This happened a few years ago. Before you ask Liam, a plow wind is the result of a strong storm front and a very strong wind being formed within it. Instead of a tornado, the plough wind is straight, and impacts with the ground at an angle. Look at the trees over there and do you see how they are broken off high? You see how they are broken off or pushed over lower and lower until the ones at ground level were hit. If you were to draw a line from the ground up to where the trees first show damage, this one hit the earth at about a 30 degree angle."

"Are they common?" asked Liam

"They seem to be getting more common" Jared replied. "I like to get my firewood from this area. It has been drying in the sun for a few years now and the wood has dried quite well."

Soon the sounds of chainsaw were heard as Jared and Darren began limb the trees and buck it into stove cord length. The others were piling the wood into the back of the truck. When the truck was full, Troy and Liam drove the truck back to the cabin and threw it out near the Quonset next to the splitter.

The men had made 6 loads of wood when Jared said "Enough guys. I think we have enough stored for a few sweat ceremonies and use in the house. Over the summer, I hope we can get some more and get everything split and stacked as well."

They headed back to the Quonset and stored the gear away after unloading the last load. They headed back to the cabin and lunch.

After lunch, Tyler, Darren and Josh wanted to split some of the wood to get a better work out for them and headed out back. They were now back to their usual cabin dress code, wearing their loin cloths as they split wood to prevent slivers in vital organs.

Jared and Liam stayed dressed after Jared suggested they go for a quad ride on some of the trails in the area. They put their helmets on and headed out, Jared in the lead. They drove along trails, through swampy areas and mud.

Liam hadn't driven a quad much, but he was getting more confident. He managed to splash Jared a couple of times with great gobs of mud having the consistency of homemade thick gravy, coating him from head to toe.

Jared had got more than even with Liam. One time, he gunned the quad causing the wheels to spin throwing clumps of mud directly at Liam. By the time he was finished, there was about 4 inches of mud stuck to Liam's head and upper body.

Soon enough, they ended on top of a hill. They parked their quads and took their helmets off. Jared led Liam on foot up higher and then around the peak. When they broke through some bushes, they found themselves on a large flat rock outcropping which was high above the lake giving them a stunning view of the entire area. On the outcropping was a couple of handmade willow chairs, a table and a fire ring made of rocks.

"This is a fantastic view Jared" stated Liam. Jared came up behind him and embraced him.

"Yes it is. You can see the top of the cabin in that direction" Jared pointed. "The area where we were cutting wood is over there. Over there, you can see the river feeding the lake and then out of it again over there. This is a sacred place once used for spotting enemies and signal fires. Sacred ceremonies were also conducted here."

Jared led Liam over the rock face, and showed him some drawings of men with spears and animals painted about 1,000 years ago.

"Touch them" suggest Jared.

Liam reached out his right hand and with his fingertips touched the figure of a man. His head was immediately flooded with visions of a large camp of natives located on the banks of the lake where it meets with the river. There were children playing, women weaving or sorting grains for storage and men practicing their spear throwing or using their bows to shoot arrows at a target. There were racks of split fish and strips of meat hanging from them to dry in the sun. The tribe appeared to be healthy and very happy in their lives. The vision changed to a medicine man sitting on this ledge by the side of a fire. The man suddenly sat straighter and turned slowly to look directly at Liam. He stood and walked towards the boys.

The man raised his hand, palm facing upward and said "Greetings travellers. Standing Maskwa (bear), it is good to see you again my friend" he said looking at Jared.

"Greetings Sacred Medicine Man of the people" replied Jared.

"You have brought a man. Is this Soring Mikisow (eagle) who we saw in our vision? The man of two spirits who will stand by your side and will blend his powers with yours?" he asked.

"It is so Sacred Medicine Man of the people. He has arrived as foreseen" replied Jared.

Jared looked at Liam who was standing very still, his beautiful eyes wide open. "Jared is this real?" he asked, his voice quivering.

"Yes, Liam. You may take your hand off the painting now" said Jared. Liam did so slowly.

"Liam, your name is soaring Mikisow or soaring eagle. This man is the greatest medicine man of the people who ever lived. I introduce you to Trumpeting Wâwâskesiw, Sacred Medicine Man of the people and my grandfather. You would call him great-great-great-great-great grandfather Liam in English. Grandfather, I am honoured to bring to you to Liam or Mikisow, my soul mate" said Jared.

Grandfather stepped forward and embraced Liam strongly, patting his back 3 times and then stepping back. He then motioned to the fire and said "Join me for tea. I have been waiting for you and it is ready" he said.

"How shall I address you wâwâskesiw?" asked Liam.

"Liam, you may call me Grandfather. It is term of respect for anyone young to call an elder Grandfather regardless of the other's culture to assign only two grandfathers for a family. In the people's culture, it takes an entire community to raise a child, therefore the young may call all elders grandfather or grandmother" he explained.

They sat down and Grandfather Elk poured tea into the 3 cups and handed it to them. The drink wasn't made with actual tea leaves, it was made with various herbs and berries provided by Mother Earth locally. "Maskwa, I sense a change in you since last time. The Creator has touched you." He stated.

"Yes grandfather, he did. Although I am not worthy, he has named me Sacred Medicine Man of the people in the sweat lodge ceremony" Jared said. "The Creator also reached deep into Liam to bring the knowledge of the ancients near to the surface in him. He needs to be trained so it will surface completely."

"Then we will start" the old man said. "First, Mother Earth needs her dirt back and you two have much of it on you. Do you not take swims in the lake to be clean in your time?" he asked while smiling.

Jared and Liam both smiled back. Liam said "Grandfather, we were playing in the mud like children, but it was fun."

The old man smiled and said to Jared "You have chosen well. Let's go to the lake and you may swim to clean up. I have loin cloths for you ready to wear."

They took a trail down to the lake and the boys jumped into the water. They took off their clothes and rinsed them as much as they could, and taking them out to dry on the rocks. They returned to the water and finished washing themselves. Coming out of the lake, the old man met them at the shore and gave them some loin clothes. Liam and Jared put them on quickly.

"I shall lead Liam into the forest and we shall look at the medicines and talk with the spirits" stated Grandfather.

"Yes Grandfather. I shall remain here in meditation until you return" said Jared and made himself comfortable on the moss on the edge of the bank, leaning against a tree crossed legged. Liam and Grandfather disappeared into the forest.

Jared had been sitting and meditating for quite some time when he heard some children yelling in the near distance. Curious, he got up, stretched and walked towards them. There were 6 or 7 young teenagers standing around another teenager on the ground. He was crying.

Jared approached the group and held his hand out palm up "Greeting cousins." The youth were startled and turned to him.

"Who are you?" the biggest one demanded. "We don't know you."

"You are old enough for proper courtesy and a proper greeting" said Jared sharply.

The youth were startled by Jared's words. They began to get nervous when the bigger one spoke again "We don't know you. You are not of our tribe so we do not need to show respect."

Jared walked up to the group. The little tents in their loin cloths, the stains on the front of them and the crying youth with his loin cloth pulled down made things obvious to Jared what was happening. He looked at them all, towering over even the biggest and held out his hand, palm up again "Greetings cousins."

"Who are you?" the biggest one demanded again.

Jared was getting upset at their rudeness. "I am Standing Bear, Sacred Medicine Man of the People. My Grandfather is the most Scared Medicine Man of the People Trumpeting Elk. You have not learned your teachings for someone nearing the age of a man and not knowing when to show greetings."

"Trumpeting Elk has no grandchildren" the big one said.

"Now you call me two faced" steamed Jared. Jared stared at the young man who looked back at him. He was trying to square off with Jared. Jared looked skyward as he raised his arms up with the palms facing the heavens. The boys stepped back a bit.

When he brought his head down and looked at the boys, his eyes were glowing bright white. "You have dishonoured yourselves by forcing this boy to have sex with you. In my life, it is called rape and in some cases is dealt with by the punishment of death. You have also failed to properly greet a visitor and by calling him a liar." In a thunderous voice Jared asked "Why do you choose these paths."

The young men were scared now, except for the biggest one. "You don't scare me with these tricks water spirit." He turned to look at his friends and realized they had stepped back and he was alone with the boy on the ground.

"Now you insult me boy" said Jared. Jared focused his eyes on the young man and commanded "Stand with your friends" he said with a thunderous voice again. The boy didn't want to move except he had no choice now as he was now being wiled to move by Jared.

Jared kneeled next to the young man and took him in his arms and pulled the loin cloth back into place carefully. He spoke very gently "what these boys have done to you is a dishonour to them. They will be punished. But first, I wish you to share your pain and suffering with those who have done it to you."

Jared placed his hand on the young man's forehead, and raised his other arm fingers upright like a stop signal pointed at the group of boys. The hand on the boy's forehead glowed and he stopped hurting. Jared looked over at the group and saw them all on the ground crying, and in pain. Jared then gently placed both hands on the head of the boy in front of him and prayed to the Creator. His hands glowed briefly, and the glow spread to the boy and throughout his body. "The Creator has chosen to heal you, the damage, the pain and shame has been removed. You will walk a long path in your life and be with your people for many years of plentiful food, good weather and many children."

The young man looked up and said "Thank you Standing Bear. I will hear your words and make them happen."

Jared stood up and looked at the group of youth on the ground, still crying and in pain. Once again, Jared looked up to into the sky and prayed. The youth were released from their experience.

"Stand up" Jared commanded them.

Jared did not lose his temper very often but, he was fighting it at a level he had never experienced before in his life. He was fighting to remain calm and to think of actions which were suitable for this situation and not over react. Suddenly he filled with rage and thought with what these youth did, they should be destroyed, killed, put to death. They should not be allowed to live and do this ever again. Jared had never felt anything so vivid in his life. He could feel his body breathing quickly, increased heart rate, narrowing his vision to what is called tunnel vision and focused only on the young men. He felt his hands moving with the fingers stretching out and then into a tight fist. He was sweating profusely in spite of the wind and suddenly become aware all of the muscles in his body were tightening and ready to spring into action. His training in Aikido could be used to deal with these young men effectively. He also thought of ways he could make these young men be punished or tormented for years in the spiritual world, made to suffer for their actions.

Then, like a light come one, Jared thought "I am not the creator, I am not the judge, I am not an executor, I am a healer. My body has gone into "fight or flight" mode and I am not thinking about the full picture. I hate their behavior but the tribe has a justice system to deal with transgressions using tribal history and beliefs. I cannot hate, that is an emotion which can run out of control and cause rash decisions. I must only disagree or not like their behavior, never hate the person. I can determine they have broken rules, or laws, or behaved unacceptably but I cannot let hate dominate me. Even the guilty must be healed and dealt with properly. I would be no better than the youth who raped this boy. I must allow the people to deal with their own."

He began to control and will himself to settle down. This time he used his Aikido training to defuse his body from the "fight or flight" mode it was in. He willed his parasympathetic nervous system to work immediately and return his body to normal. It worked and the monster which had grown so quickly in him was slain. He was in control again.

"I have made you to experience how your actions felt on the boy when you forced him into sex against his will. You felt the physical pain, the shame of being used, the pain of the spirit being broken and the mind's thoughts as you did it and how he felt afterwards. I shall take you to the council of elders for them to render a verdict. It is not my place to use my gifts to punish you. Do you understand?" asked Jared.

The boys were all now looking in fear at Jared and nodded their heads slowly.

Grandfather had taken Liam into the forest, showing him the plants, berries, roots and flowers which heal the body and spirit of the people. He sat Liam on a clear area between the jack pine trees. They were sitting knee to knee and holding hands and Liam felt the presence of the Grandfather's spirit and it drew Liam's spirit out of his body. They were both hovering above their physical forms. He taught Liam how to move and control his actions in this form.

"Can I be seen in this form grandfather?"

"If you will it, you can appear to be solid in another place, or time. You must learn to focus your thoughts and the gift of spiritual seeing and hearing to do it" he replied as they sored over the forest. "I'll show you" grandfather said as he took Liam's hand.

The world around them began to move out of focus and suddenly, they were standing and watching his friends split wood.

"Can they see us?" asked Liam.

"No, they can't see or hear us. It's better that way unless we have a purpose to achieve. I wish you to know doing this to pinch someone's butt is not a good use of the gift, unless it can be accomplished while you are doing the creators work" he said with a smirk.

Liam face had shock on it initially, but changed into mischievousness. "Would it be inappropriate to do it once, and get it out of the system, so to speak?"

Grandfather was smiling at Liam. He was definitely going to be a match for Jared and that meant he now had two young men who were best described as "handfuls." Grandfather finally spoke, "I guess Darren is the big one with blonde hair? The one with the big bulge?"

"Yes grandfather. I told him I would do it if I could."

"I believe I have learned your English language now when I say .......go for it and make sure he knows he got it too."

Liam moved quickly behind Darren and got him good. He was jumping up and down holding his ass. Josh was standing there watching and trying to figure out what had happened.

Darren blurted out "Son of a bitch, he got me. Did you hear Liam laughing?"

Josh smiled "I thought I did, but I thought it was my imagination."

"The little twerp....." continued Darren. His voice was fading as Liam and grandfather walked away and into the forest.

Suddenly, the world around them swirled together again and suddenly Liam and grandfather were standing near a camp of Indians. The camp had been attacked by a war party and many people were wounded and laying on the ground.

"Can we help them grandfather?"

"Yes, you are here to learn the skills of healing. Concentrate on making yourself appear solid, and we will work on the wounded."

Liam concentrated and he was standing next to grandfather, both were dressed in the buckskins of a Medicine Man. There had been people nearby when they appeared and they fell to their knees.

"Help us spirits. We have many wounded" said one woman.

"Rise and continue tending to the wounded" said grandfather. "Your work will help them from walking the next world." The women continued washing the wounds of the wounded nearby but kept the spirits under observation from the corner of their eye.

"Liam, come to this man and place your hands on his chest. Pray to the creator that he may guide your hands to do his work, you are a conduit for his work."

Liam did as he was instructed. Suddenly, he felt warmth building within his hands as he saw them begin to glow. Liam could see inside the wounded man's body. The arrow which had been pulled out had pierced his lung and liver. He could see the blood collecting in his lung and around the organs.

Grandfather had his hand on Liam's shoulder and was watching the vision in his head of the wounds.

"Concentrate on the lung tissue, and watch it rebuild" he directed. Liam again did as he was instructed. He saw the fibres of tissue move towards each other and bond, sealing the hole on the front and back. He concentrated on removing the blood from the lung, and he could see it becoming a vapour, and being breathed out from the man's mouth as he exhaled.

Liam concentrated on the liver, ordering the cells to grow and bond together, repairing the organ. When it appeared in vision to be healed, he began to concentrate on the skin wound.

"Liam, just heal the skin wound enough to seal the abdominal cavity. He will live and heal himself with time and you can't use all your energy on that type of wound. You must choose what to heal carefully."

"I saw Jared heal Josh entirely."

"Yes, and he did so using a tremendous amount of his energy. I was aware of his actions and you must understand he chose to expend his energy to heal his friend because of what the wound was and how far it was to get him to a hospital. Josh would not have lived through the trip, and Jared chose to heal him. He also knew he could purge himself right after he did it with no danger to himself. You have much to learn."

Liam once again watched as the tissue grew and bonded together, and sat back on his heels when he thought enough had been done.

"Grandfather, I heard Jared say something every time after he had healed someone."

He looked into Liam's mind and said "It is appropriate Liam."

Liam looked up to the heavens and said "Thank you Creator for guiding my hands so this man may continue the path you choose for him."

The two of them moved about the village and healed many men, women and children together. Liam also was not allowed to heal a few people. He heard a voice inside his head speak and tell him this person has reached the end of their journey in life. Liam understood.

When they had finished tending to the wounded, Liam felt very tired in a way he had never experienced before. The only thing Liam could equate the feeling inside his chest and abdomen as similar to severe cramping, muscle strain and feeling like his chest had filled been inflated with Jello.

"What you are feeling is the energy of the wounds and spirits you healed. When you heal, you use your energy to heal the wounded, but the bad energy of the wound and person is absorbed into your body. I'm impressed Grandson, you have healed and absorbed more energy than I have ever seen before."

"Thank you grandfather, you taught me well."

"We must release the energy Liam, come with me."

Liam followed him to a corner of the village and into a hut where many sacred objects were very specifically placed a circle around the inside. Liam recognised many of the objects from the memories deep within him. Liam sat near the cold fire place after picking up two rocks which were near the door way. Grandfather did the same while also picking up a smudging bundle. He used a match to light the bundle, fanning the smoke around Liam and himself.

Liam must have had a strange look on his face when the match was used. Grandfather smiled and simply said "not everything that is made by the others is evil. To use some of your language Liam, matches are pretty cool and make fire lighting easy."

Liam laughed at the comment and Grandfather sat and smiled at the young man. He is a very powerful healer the old man thought.

"Place the rocks on the ground, and keep your palms on the rock. Visualize the energy in your body, and use your will to force it out your body through your hands, through the rock and into the ground."

Liam closed his eyes and concentrated, he felt a cold feeling begin to grow, and it expanded quickly. He willed it down his arms to his hands and into the ground. It took a few minutes before Liam felt the cold energy was finally gone from his body before he opened his eyes.

Grandfather taught Liam a chant to repeat while he was releasing the energy and to continue after while mother earth was refilling him with good energy. He told Liam to place the palms of hands directly onto the ground as he chanted. He could feel his hands begin to warm, and it soon began to travel up his arms and into the core of his body. After what seemed to be an eternity in time, it was done. Liam felt refreshed and full of energy.

"You have done very well grandson. Many people have been saved and you have learned to control the healing energy quickly."

"Thank you grandfather for teaching me as well as you did."

They left the hut and walked towards a group of people near the centre of the camp. As they were approaching, screams of agony were heard. Liam broke through the crowd and saw a nude young man tied to a travois in a spread eagle position. He was being tortured by two warriors.

"Stop" said Liam.

The two warriors looked at him and laughed. "Who are you to give us orders?"

Grandfather broke through the crowd and stood next to Liam.

A woman spoke from the crowd and said "They are spirits who healed the wounded."

"You have no business here now spirits, be gone" said one of the warriors. He had a knife in his hand which he had been using to cut the skin of the young man in long lines over his chest. The warrior grasped the young man's genitals and moved the knife towards them to remove them.

Liam was thinking about what to do when memories again came from deep within him. Liam raised his right hand and made a grabbing motion. The warrior could no longer move his hand. He tried hard to move his hand, but it felt like someone had grabbed his wrist and was preventing it from moving. Liam then quickly threw his hand to the right, and the warrior moved to the right like he had been dragged and thrown by someone. The crowd was silent, and staring at Liam. Liam's eyes were pure white, and glow emanated from his entire body.

"Grandfather, more of the old knowledge has been awakened within me."

"So I see grandson."

The other warrior had his knife out and was moving towards Liam. Liam brought his right hand up with the palm facing the warrior and pushed away from his body. The warrior flew backwards twenty feet, landing flat on his back.

The crowd fell to their knees and bowed their heads. Some called Liam the Creator. Liam moved to the wounded man and faced the crowd.

"I am not the Creator; I am merely one of his servants who do his will. The Creator understands the use of violence to combat the dark one and the dark servants to but to fight another group of the people is wrong. You are all children of the Creator, even this man you are torturing. You are torturing one of your brothers. This must not continue" demanded Liam.

"But they were on our hunting grounds" said a man in the crowd.

"Since when do the children of the Creator believe they own a part of mother earth?" said Liam with a voice which shook the ground. In a normal voice, Liam continued "Mother earth and everything which lives on her is for all the people to use and share. There is enough for everyone and all of the Creator's children."

The crowd was silent.

"The evil one has darkened your thinking. We must fight it" added Liam.

Liam turned to the tied warrior and released him with the bonds disappearing as he waved his hand. He fell to the ground in a heap. Liam reached over and placed his hands on the man's chest. The entire tribe watched as the man was healed before their eyes.

"Grandfather, this is the son of the other tribe's chief. How may I create peace between the tribes?"

"You are handling this very well on your own grandson, reach out for guidance and think hard. I believe your second grade teacher used to say "put your thinking cap on.""

Liam smiled at the old man and thought for a moment. An idea suddenly was created in his mind using the old teachings.

"You will let this man go back to his home and tell them of what has been said here today. He shall tell his people the words of the Creator about sharing Mother Earth. The leaders of his tribe and this tribe will meet within two days and make peace. My Grandfather and I will come to the meeting to make sure the will of the Creator is being followed and peace has begun. Do the children of the Creator understand his words?"

A big man who had been silent stepped forward. "Your words shall be followed. The warrior may use my horse to go home and I will meet the leaders from his tribe as you said."

"Very good. Our time here is ending, but we shall meet in two days."

Liam walked to Grandfather and stood beside him. The both disappeared and immediately reappeared in front of the gathered tribes at the meeting. There were many chiefs present at the meeting discussing the Creators words. All conversation stopped when the two appeared.

"It's true" said one of the Chiefs. "The messengers of the Creator are here."

"Have you made peace?" asked Liam.

"It is close Grandson" said the young man who Liam had healed.

"What's stopping it?"

"We have a gift, and we need your help to finish the peace" he replied.

"How may I help?" asked Liam.

"First accept this gift as a symbol from all the chiefs." An old man dressed as healer stepped forward with a 7' staff made from diamond willow. The bark had been removed, exposing the white wood and the dark diamonds of the knots. The wood was forked on the top and from it hung five eagle feathers and five fox tails.

The old healer explained "each of the tribes has given a feather and a fox tail to show their commitment for peace. We need you to use this staff to banish the evil ones who create the wars between us."

The old man stepped forward, and then knelt with his head down. He held the staff with his hands up above his head, parallel to the ground.

"Healer of the people, you honour me with your gift" said Liam.

Liam also knelt on the ground in the same position except he used his hand to raise the old man's head up. "I wish you to see me humbled as I accept your gift of peace and love."

Liam lowered his head, and accepted the gift into his hands. He stood with the staff and bowed first to the old man, and then each of the chiefs. They were impressed with the respect shown to them by a powerful spirit, and bowed back to him.

Grandfather spoke up "We shall now honour your request Chiefs of the Council and banish the evil servants. Please, follow us outside."

The group went to the edge of the forest. Grandfather raised his hands and the earth before separated into a deep trench. He began to chant and Liam joined with him. The old medicine man had his drum with him and started to use it. Soon the whole group was chanting.

More old memories came from deep within Liam and he raised the staff into the air, speaking Gallic. He commanded the evil one's to leave the people and never return. He brought the staff down onto the ground which caused the earth to vibrate. Shadows began leave the chiefs and warriors in the circle. Liam slammed the staff down again causing a larger vibration through the earth. More shadows left the people present. Liam yelled in Gallic at the top of his lungs and brought the staff down one more time causing the people to shift their weight to remain steady on their feet from the vibrations. The final shadows left the people. Liam walked to trench and tapped it with his staff.

The shadows had been collecting like a cloud over the people. The cloud was churning and forming faces showing agony were seen. When Liam tapped the open trench, the shadows were drawn into it. The fought the pull into the trench, screaming and painful cries came from the cloud as it disappeared into mother earth. Grandfather closed the ground with a wave of his hand. He then reached into the forest and brought a large sapling spruce tree and planted it over the spot.

Grandfather spoke to the group "This is the tree of peace. It shall grow and flourish, keeping the peace between you. The roots shall form the cage to keep the shadows safely inside Mother Earth's womb so they will not return to possess you. Continue to plant trees here for many generations to replace this tree before it dies so the cage is always in place."

"I thank you for your gift of the staff and I will use it to help me do the work of the Creator" said Liam to the group. "It's time for us to leave. May you all receive the blessing of the Creator for long, healthy life with many grandchildren.

Liam and Grandfather turned into orbs of light, and disappeared into the sky. When Grandfather and Liam reappeared, they were standing next to Jared.

Jared was surprised by the sudden appearance of his Grandfather and Liam. The boys Jared had been confronting disappeared and a buffalo appeared. "You have done well Jared. You saw your anger and experienced hatred. You now know how it can undue all the good of everything else you have done. You learned to control it and give fair justice in your decision. I am proud" the buffalo said. "Your soulmate Liam has learned a lot today as well Jared. Much of the old knowledge has surfaced and Liam is able to heal and use some of his gifts. You two are powerful together."

Grandfather stepped forward and said "I too am proud of both of you. You two did well especially for someone of young ages. The creator chose well. Jared, Liam, we will meet again for more teaching to you and your soul mate. Enough has been learned today."

With that, the two of them we back on the rock outcropping standing there looking over the lake.

"Was that a dream?" asked Liam.

"No, it wasn't. Look our clothing" said Jared. The two of them looked at the clothing. It looked as if it had been rinsed and dried. Definitely less mud than when they started whatever happened to them.

"Nice staff" said Jared looking at it.

Liam replied "A gift to help do the work of the creator. It is a staff of peace between the people, brotherhood, respect, goodness and love."

"Liam, you have the power to turn that staff into the energy of the spirit of the wood. It will always be with you, but in an energy form. When you need it, you will it into your hand."

Liam thought for a moment. "You mean it becomes the same form of energy when I leave my body for a trip."

"Exactly" replied Jared with a smile. "The student is going to surpass the teacher soon Liam."

"It will never happen Jared. Our powers together will do the work, not separately. As soulmates, we are one Jared" replied Liam.

They turned to each other, hugging and kissing passionately. Together, they walked down the path and back to the bikes.

"It's late in the day Liam. We should get back before they get worried about us and get lost trying to search for us" said Jared.

"I agree" responded Liam. "But, there is something important I have to do first."

"And what would that be lover?" asked Jared.

"This!" said Liam as he shoved Jared backwards into a large gooey mud hole. Liam ran and put his helmet on, started his bike and took off down the trail.

Jared got up and was laughing. "Darren is right, he is getting bad" he thought to himself as ran for his bike.

Jared caught up to Liam, and by the time they were back at the cabin, Liam again had more mud on him than Jared did by a longshot. The two of them pulled up to the Quonset, and used the pressure washer to clean the bikes. They parked them inside and striped off their clothing, spraying it down gently. The boys hung their clothing of the clothes line to dry.

When the entered the kitchen, the rest were sitting at the supper table with the meal ready to eat. Liam and Jared quickly found their seats and thanked the others for their thoughtfulness. Jared and Liam cleaned up the kitchen after the meal. Liam ran for the shower while Jared talked to the others on the deck.

"So what's on for tonight?" asked Jared.

"Since we have to go back to the city tomorrow, we thought we could have a campfire and maybe get Josh to play his guitar a bit" replied Tyler. "We actually got all the wood split and stacked too. It became a real contest between Darren and Troy and they weren't using the splitter either. It was done all by hand. They are already feeling it" laughed Tyler.

"I'm not, but he is!" said Darren.

"Am not" replied Troy.

"Am so" said Darren

"Am not" replied Troy.

"Oh my God, they've been reduced to a monosyllabic argument" cried Tyler.

"Enough" said Jared as the two continued saying "am so, am not" to each other. They looked at him and both had fake pouts on their faces, their heads tucked down and their arms crossed tightly across their chests.

"Both of you stand up, bend over asses facing me." The two complied. Jared gave them both a playful smack and then said "No more fighting or pouting children. Play nice." He then gave them a good smack each, leaving a nice pink hand mark on each ass.

The both stood up and grabbed their asses "ok daddy, we'll play nice." Then they stuck their tongues out at each other.

Jared stepped towards them "Don't make me get the hairbrush!" and then started to laugh.

Liam came onto the porch, smelling all clean and looking beautiful. "What the hell is going on out here?"

The two boys looked at each and ran over and hugged Liam tightly. Darren said "Daddy, other mean daddy slapped our asses for doing nothing."

Jared was laughing by now and said to Liam "they're your kids; I'm going for a shower!" He was leaving the deck when he heard 2 slaps on bare asses. He could hear Darren saying "Daaaadddddiiiieeeeeeeeee."

A short time later, Jared returned and found them all in the hot tub. Liam was sitting alone in a corner with his arms stretched out along the top of the tub.

"Coming in daddy?' Liam said.

"You continue along that line and you will get a spanking you will never forget!" said Jared.

Jared stepped into the tub and snuggled up to Liam. Tyler and Darren admitted they were stiff, and for once they didn't mean their cocks. The hot tub felt good to everyone. It was getting dark by the time they got out and dried off. They split up with Darren and Josh going to light the fire, Tyler and Troy getting the drinks with Jared and Liam looking for marshmallows and snacks.

The guys sat around the fire telling jokes, swapping stories and listened to Josh play the guitar. They were now roasting marshmallows and drinking some beer, wine or tea. Life is good, for all of them.
