Jamie Lawrence - Chapter 2
As Jamie alighted the bus just behind Shane, he quelled his immediate urge to take Shane's hand in his own. The two had briefly held hands on the bus until Shane became convinced that another passenger was staring at them and yanked his hand away.
"I understand," Jamie had whispered, offering an encouraging smile.
"For now, I'm the only one who needs to know. I'm okay with that." Shane didn't respond. He simply stared sadly into his lap.
Now, he was walking alongside Jamie with his hands tucked firmly into his pockets, looking somewhat withdrawn. Matthew squeezed himself between the two and slid an arm over the shoulder of each.
"Shake a leg, boys. I've got a leggy blonde waiting for me." As always, Matthew's goofy demeanour and natural charm lifted the mood and brought a smile to Shane's face.
As they rounded the corner and the cinema came into view, Matthew's face lit up. He released Shane and Jamie before running at full tilt toward his girlfriend.
Samantha Cole was a stunner, and Matthew told her this often. She was physically more mature than any of the girls at their own school; something that Matthew enjoyed immensely. Sam's blonde hair was always exquisitely crafted into a cascade of loose curls, and her make-up was understated yet immaculate.
She was wearing a red summer dress which swayed playfully around her knees, and as ever, her four inch heels lengthened her legs to almost supermodel proportions.
Matthew reached her, and in one smooth motion, scooped her up into his arms before firmly planting his lips on hers.
Jamie and Shane reached the two just as they were pulling apart and Sam was saying "Phew! That was a good one." Matthew set her down. As she turned to Jamie, she smiled, revealing her perfectly white teeth. "There's my Titch!" She spread her arms for a hug.
Unfortunately for Jamie, the height difference between him and Sam meant that any hug with her involved his head being buried in her ample chest. Mid-hug, he tried to say "Hey Sam," but all that came out was "Mmff hmff."
When she released him, Jamie caught her giving Shane a funny look. Shane, who was again looking unhappily at the ground, hadn't noticed. Jamie jumped to make the introductions.
"Sam, this is my friend Shane Carter. Shane, this is Sam Cole." Jamie shot a pleading look at Sam who responded with a well veiled roll of the eyes. She extended a perfectly manicured hand to Shane which he took for only a moment before returning his own to his pocket.
"Well!" Matthew piped up. "That was sufficiently awkward. Shall we?" He pointed to the building's entrance.
The ticket stall of the GN16 cinema was on the first floor above a high-end restaurant and bar. The building was massive and very modern. As a result of a recent construction accident however, the only access to the first floor was via an escalator. This was a problem for Jamie who was petrified of escalators.
As he always did whenever faced with an escalator, Matthew waited while Jamie braced himself and Sam and Shane waited for them at the top.
"You ready?" Matthew asked taking Jamie's hand and cradling him to his chest. Jamie nodded, and Matthew took a step backwards, bringing Jamie with him as he did. Matthew hummed "Sweet Child o' Mine" as they travelled to the second level of the building.
At the top, Jamie shook himself. "The sooner they fix that bloody staircase the better."
"I'll go get the tickets." Matthew started away. Without thinking, Jamie followed.
Shane was freaking out. Only an hour ago he had run to the sports hall to recover his jacket. Now he was on a double date with a guy; a guy he had spent the last eighteen months terrorising in an attempt to avoid facing something too big and scary to face.
He had enjoyed sexual encounters with other guys, and had always avoided any kind of true intimacy. It was just sex as far as he was concerned. What was the harm in getting his end away? As long as there were never any feelings there, he could go home at the end of the day and talk to his father about whatever girl he was using as a beard. Then he had let Jamie kiss him. In that one moment, Shane had lost all will to resist and found himself willing to do almost anything.
Jamie had left him alone with a girl he had never met, who was now watching him pace back and forth frantically as if she were waiting for something.
Shane didn't care. He had the face of his father plastered across his vision, hatred pouring out of his eyes. He knew that his father would disown him, or worse, if he were to be a "fucking fairy" as he so eloquently put it. Shane stopped dead.
"I can't do this!" He turned to run.
"Oh, no you don't!" Sam grabbed him around the waist and lifted him bodily from the ground. She threw him against the wall in much the same way Shane had done to Jamie earlier. She pointed an inch long fingernail at him. "Look here you little shit."
She stopped a moment, as if to gather herself. "Let's skip over the part where I pretend that I don't know how you've been treating Titch for the last year and a half and get to the point."
"I don't know the full story here. What I do know is that Titch has a look in his eyes that I haven't seen in all the time I've known him." She put her hand on Shane's shoulder. "He likes you. If you're not going to stick around then you at least need to tell him so."
Shane wanted to explain; to put into words all the horrible things he had imagined could happen if he ever told the whole truth. He wanted to tell her that he was on the verge of tears. Then he wanted to tell her that he had dreamed of Jamie a million times and every fantasy of his future happiness was dependant on his smiling face, but even trying to use those words silenced his voice and stalled his heart in fear.
Shane had almost managed to free his mouth enough to speak when, from behind he heard Matthew bellow "You little fucker!" Shane turned to see Jamie giggling and dodging Matthew who was giving chase. As the pair approached Sam and Shane, Jamie missed his footing slightly and toppled over forwards, directly into Shane's waiting arms.
Cradled in Shane's arms, Jamie looked into his eyes and beamed. "We must stop meeting like this." Shane stared back into Jamie's eyes, noticing for the first time that they were a marvellous shade of pale blue with a happy twinkle dancing around within them.
He moved one hand to Jamie's face and gently touched his cheek. In that one moment, Shane felt like he had fallen in love with Jamie. His fears about the potential collapse of his life shattered in his chest and he could breathe again
Lost in Jamie's eyes, Shane hadn't noticed how long had passed until he heard a delicate cough from nearby. Snapped back to reality, Shane looked to Sam and Matthew who were staring at the boys. Shane's cheeks went immediately red. Jamie took his hand and whispered "Don't be embarrassed. I felt it too." He gave Shane's hand a little squeeze as they made their way to screen thirteen.
It was more than an hour into the film that Jamie noticed Shane's disinterest in it. Rather than avidly staring at the screen like the fifty or so others in the room, he was staring at his own hand entwined with Jamie's.
"Strange, isn't it?" he asked suddenly in that hoarse whisper people adopt at the cinema.
"What is?"
"That just holding someone's hand can be so scary and then so thrilling."
"Well, if you like this, let me introduce you to the reason I choose this theatre over the Printhouse Screens." Jamie leaned forward and lifted the arm rest between their seats before lying on Shane's chest with Shane's arm around him.
"I think I might have to choose this cinema more often," said Shane as he rested his cheek against the top of Jamie's head. Jamie closed his eyes and listened to Shane's heartbeat for a while.
Twenty minutes later, Shane's cleared his throat. "As much as I would love to stay like this, the large Sprite I just downed has other ideas."
Jamie chuckled. "Come on, I'll show you where the loos are. I need to go too." Jamie leaned over to Sam. "Just gonna show Shane where the toilets are."
Sam raised an eyebrow. "I'll bet you are." She grinned and kissed Jamie on the cheek. "Hurry back, the big climax is coming."
"In more ways than one," said Matthew, not taking his eyes away from the screen. Sam immediately dug her elbow into his side. The boys hurried away.
While Jamie was washing his hands and Shane was finishing up at the urinal, Shane asked a question that had clearly been playing on his mind.
"Can I ask you how long you've known? That you're gay, I mean."
"Sure. Let's see." Jamie pondered for a moment. "I knew from year seven. Saw all those guys getting undressed for PE and knew right off."
Shane laughed and came over to wash his hands.
"I didn't tell my parents until year eight, and even then all I said was that I 'thought' I was into boys. My mother told me to just focus on school until I knew better."
"Sounds like good advice," Shane shouted over the noise of the hand drier. He came over and lifted Jamie onto the counter. Jamie wrapped his arms around Shane's neck and his legs around his hips. Shane's hands were playing around Jamie's bottom.
"It really was. I got really good at all my classes, and nobody had any reason to suspect anything at school. Then my Matty came to our school." Jamie felt a silly smile spread across his face. "Up 'til then, I'd kept to myself. No friends to speak of."
"And then Matty."
Jamie jokingly clipped Shane on the nose. "Only I get to call him that. Just like only Sam gets to call me 'Titch'." Jamie kissed Shane's nose. "Anyway, once he and I started spending all our time together, I figured I should tell him. He kept asking me to sleep over and I kept thinking of excuses not to."
"Finally, I just blurted it out. 'Matthew. I'm gay.' And guess what he said." Shane shrugged. "'Cool, you want a pop-tart?'"
"A pop-tart? Seriously?"
Jamie nodded. "Turns out, I'd made a big issue out of nothing. He didn't give a damn. Still doesn't. He even let's me stay in his room with him." Jamie neglected to mention the fact that they invariably slept in the same bed.
Although nothing sexual had ever happened, and never would as far as Jamie was concerned, at least twice a week Jamie would sleep at Matthew's. It had come to the point that Jamie occasionally couldn't sleep in his own bed without first calling Matthew to hear his voice.
"So, there just six people who know you're gay?"
Jamie nodded. "Matthew thought it was best. I wanted to come out in year ten, just so that I wouldn't have to pretend anymore, but he felt that it would be safer to wait."
"Why'd you let him make that decision for you?"
Jamie felt a little defensive at that. "I didn't. I listened to his advice and decided to go with it."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like that."
"It's okay. Matty talks badly of you all the time."
"I think I can probably guess why." Shane looked ashamed.
"Hey, beat a little queer kid up enough, his best friend is going to be a little disparaging about you." Jamie winked slyly.
"I know you're trying to be nice about that, but I think we need to talk about it."
"What's that really going to achieve?" Jamie didn't like the turn the conversation was taking. For over a year, Shane had been a symbol of fear for Jamie. Whenever Jamie was scared to go to school in the morning, Shane was the reason. Jamie distinctly didn't want to drudge up the past, when the future was so tantalisingly close.
It had barely been a couple of hours since their tryst in the gym, but Jamie felt like he was falling hard and fast. He didn't want any hurt feelings to tarnish what had been a great day.
Shane seemed determined to continue. "Well for a start, it'll give me an opportunity to apologize." Shane looked straight into Jamie's eyes as he said this. It was all Jamie could do to hold that gaze. "Jamie, I am so sorry for everything I said and did. I took my own fear and turned it into hostility and that was wrong."
Jamie found his voice and used it to ask a question that had often nagged at him. "What I would like to know is-" He hesitated. "Why me? I mean, there was nothing to suggest that I was a legitimate target for homophobia, and yet you went for me. Why is that?"
Shane's cheeks went bright red and he laughed nervously. Jamie raised his eyebrows, suddenly suspecting he knew the answer.
"I, uh, I-" Shane stammered.
"Just give me a nod if I hit the nail on the head." Jamie smiled knowingly. "You felt something for me, even all the way back then. You didn't know how to deal with that so you turned it into hostility."
Shane nodded.
Jamie put a hand on each of Shane's cheeks. "You're forgiven." Then they kissed. This kiss was not like any of their earlier exchanges. earlier they had been born of sexual energy or shared in the afterglow of it. This kiss was tender; loving. They stayed connected for what felt to Jamie like an eternity. The world around them disappeared until only Shane remained. For the length of that kiss, they belonged to each other.
Suddenly Shane pulled away, a huge smile on his face. "Wow." He looked flushed. He glanced quickly at his crotch which was clearly expanding.
"Already? It's only been a couple of hours. Where do you find the energy?"
"Grade A stud, right here." He smiled and pounded his fist on his chest a couple of times. He motioned towards the stalls with his eyebrows.
"In the toilets? Really?" Shane grabbed Jamie's hand and shoved it firmly onto his hardening cock. "You really want to pass this up?" Jamie's objections immediately evaporated as he started to stroke it, gently at first, and then harder. His own growing member pressed uncomfortably against the inside of his jeans.
Seeing the growing tent in Jamie's jeans, Shane smiled, took Jamie's hand and led him to the stall furthest from the door. Once inside, Jamie pushed Shane against the wall and dropped to his knees. He pulled Shane's jeans and shorts down to his ankles and ran his hands back up Shane's legs, admiring the muscles as he went.
Jamie grasped Shane's dick firmly in his left hand. With his right he massaged the sack beneath. Shane let out a soft "Mmm." Jamie stuck out his tongue and touched the tip to the slit. He kissed the head of Shane's cock before taking about half of it in his mouth.
"Oh, yes." Shane started moving his hips forward and back, effectively face-fucking Jamie. Jamie pulled off and ran his tongue down the shaft before continuing onto the balls. He took one into his mouth and then let it slide out before taking the other to do the same.
"Mmm, that's good. I'm getting close." Shane had his eyes closed and his head tilted back. Jamie placed a hand on each of his buttocks and went to work on his shaft. He slurped and sucked, relishing the taste of Shane's pre-cum and feeling his own cock leaking.
All too soon, Shane took a deep breath. "Oh fuck! Aaah!" He let off four streams of cum, all of which Jamie swallowed. Jamie kept Shane's dick in his mouth as it started to go soft again. He milked the last few drops of Shane's cum into his mouth, sat back on his feet and stared at the drained thing as it shrivelled up.
Jamie lifted Shane's jeans back to his hips, fastened them up and kissed Shane.
"Don't you want me to do you?"
"That's okay. I think we've probably missed the end of the film. We should find Matty and Sam." Jamie took Shane's hand and led him from the stall.
As they approached the door, it opened and a thirty year old man came in. He took one look at the boys holding hands and said "Fucking faggots."
Shane swung Jamie around and planted a big wet kiss on him, even slipping him a little tongue. He pulled back, smiled at Jamie and turned to the guy. "What do you know!" he said in mock surprise. "We are faggots! How remarkable." The look on the man's face was priceless, a mixture of shock, disgust and a little fascination.
Shane then led Jamie out of the toilets and back towards screen thirteen. Jamie desperately tried to suppress a giggle.
I hope you enjoyed this. I'm sorry it took me so long to get this chapter up; I got really into reading 'Rock and a Hard Place'. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it. It's in the high school section of Nifty.
