"Good morning, babe; I love you to Mars and back. It feels so good this morning with the coolness from the temp outside, and comfortable heat of lying in bed cuddling with you."

"Jaiden, I don't know who's enjoyed cuddling the most this morning, me or you. It's nice that the children have slept late and let is sleep a little later than normal."

"Peyton, are you sure the children have slept late?" "No, I'[m not. We better put some shorts on and go check on them." "Yep, that might be a good idea. What if they have made their own breakfast?"

"Perish that thought, Jaiden. The kitchen will be a total wreck."

Jaiden and Peyton got to the kitchen and were surprised to see that, while breakfast had been prepared and the dishes had been put in the dishwasher, the kitchen was spotless.

There was no sign of Dale and Charley, so it was possible they prepared breakfast for the children and then went back to bed, or a miracle had occurred: the children made their own breakfast and cleaned up behind themselves.

Jaiden walked over to the French doors in the den and looked into the backyard where he saw all ten children playing quietly. "Peyton, the children are in the backyard. I'll check and see if they have had breakfast."

"Good morning, guys; have y'all had breakfast?" "Yes, sir, Daddy, we fixed breakfast and Alaina Noelle made sure we cleaned up well after ourselves." "Well, you all did a great job cleaning behind yourselves." "Thanks, Daddy." "You're welcome, Mark Anthony."

"What did you guys have for breakfast?" "We had scrambled, eggs, turkey bacon, and grits." "How did you learn to cook that?" "Ginny and Granny have been teaching us how to cook easy stuff, and we have a lot of fun doing that." "Wow, son, I didn't know y'all were learning to do that; that's neat!" "Peyton, apparently Ginny and Granny have been giving the children cooking lessons, and they have enjoyed learning to prepare their own food." "I didn't know they were doing that." "Neither did I."

Dale and Charlie walked into the kitchen with guilty looking smirks on their faces. Apparently, they had a good time while getting to sleep in for a bit. Dale said, "Thank the good Lord you have already made the coffee, I really need five or six cups to wake up." "Peyton smiled and said, "your morning must have been really good for you to be so tired you need five or six cups of coffee to get going." "It was a wonderfully exciting morning, Peyton, and that is all I am going to say." "Good, Jaiden and I had the same morning, and that is also all I am going to say."

"Let me get a cup of coffee in my belly and I'll start breakfast started for everybody," Dale said. Jaiden replied that the children had already had scrambled eggs, grits, and turkey bacon." Dale looked at Jaiden and said, "they what?" "Yeah, John Mark said Granny and Ginny have been teaching them to cook things they like, so they made their own breakfast this morning and then cleaned up after themselves."

"Jaiden, did you check the dishwasher?" "Shall we pray,: Dale said as he opened the door to the dishwasher and exclaimed that they dishes had been scraped and rinsed before they were put in the dishwasher. Charlie said, "there is a God!"

"Well, I guess we need to fix us something to eat. What would you guys like?" "Dale, is their still some waffle batter in the fridge?" "There is, Peyton." "What about Hawaiian waffles with strawberry preserves, some bacon, and about 5 more cups of coffee, and a large glass of OJ?" "Peyton, you get the coffee ready, I'll heat up the waffle iron, and Jaiden you can get the bacon started."

Jaiden asked, "What is Charlie going to do?" Charlie spoke up and said he'd already been given orders to set the table and clean the dishes after everybody finishes eating."

As soon as the waffles started cooking and the sweet smell started wafting through out the house, the children mysteriously appeared inside asking if they were smelling waffles. Dale told them that they were and that the waffles were for the dads since there was limited batter. Besides, he told them, you have already had breakfast.

Chuck told Dale that the children had made more waffle batter and that it was in the back of the fridge. Dale asked, "Chuck, how did you guys learn to make the Hawaiian waffle batter?" "Daddy, Ginny taught us to make it. She said if we learned to fix our breakfast, you and Daddy Charlie, and Uncle Jaiden and Uncle Peyton could sleep later on the weekends. You work hard all week so we (the children) talked about it and decided to let you sleep late on Saturday morning."

"Well, guys, since y'all made waffle batter, I guess we all can have a waffle with strawberry preserves, OJ, and y'all can have milk, and the dads will have coffee."

Then something strange happened: the children set the table for everybody to have breakfast together. Jaiden cooked a whole pound of bacon, Dale made fourteen waffles, Peyton poured ten glasses of milk, and Charlie stayed out of everybody's way.

The dads were amazed that the children had already eaten and still put more food into their bellies. Charlie quipped that they would have to watch the children to ensure they didn't start getting chubby. "Not a bad idea," Jaiden said.

After breakfast, the families took a walk around to Granny's and Ginny's homes, gave them a Parkins style hug and kiss and thanked them for teaching the children to cook their breakfast thus allowing them to sleep a bit later than normal. The ladies said it was their pleasure, that it was something the children had asked to learn and that they felt obliged to teach them given the children's request.

"Ginny, Granny, they even made waffle batter that was better than what we dads make." "I know, Jaiden, I taught the children a grandma's trick to making creamy, sweet waffles." "Granny, the butter the children put on the waffles was amazing. What kind of butter was it?" "Dale, it was imported Irish butter." "Did you buy it, we need to pay you for it if you did." "No, I ordered groceries from the Neighborhood Market. Peyton set up the account, and it sure is easier to order the groceries via the internet and have them delivered. By the way, don't make plans for dinner, the children have another surprise for you." "And?" Dale asked.

"You'll see, just wait."

When the families got back home from their walk, the children disappeared into the kitchen. While they were doing their thing preparing lunch, the dads donned their toboggan beanies, their down jackets, retrieved their latest professional journals and went onto the deck to read in peace and quiet.

Jaiden was reading about the newest wholistic approaches to treating cancer and commented to Peyton that he thought their practice and the hospital's cancer should institute contact procedures identical to those being used at World of Hope Cancer Center. St. Jude's already has tremendous patient treatment teams, but Jaiden believes the procedures in Erie could be better, and he aims to make that happen. Weekly contact with patients parents by the entire team: doctors, radiology, chemo, dietetics and then some to enhance patient monitoring and progress.

Dale and Charlie were reading about new advancements in designs for hospitals, their company's specialty. It was interesting to see how the men were enjoying reading about design changes in their specialty fields, and they were ecstatic that they could possibly incorporate those changes in what they do to help patients even more. After work one night, Peyton and Jaiden were sitting on the couch in the den wanting to watch a movie but being unable to because their boys had their noses stuck in books and didn't want the television to be on. So, the men took that chance to softly talk about what they had done for Richard and wondering if they had ever done anything similar for Leon. When they realized they had not, they began plotting how to pull one over on him.

Jaiden got on his computer and began looking at small luxury vehicles. Leon had mentioned wanting an Audi 8, so Jaiden found an Audi Dealer and would pay a visit the next day after he and Peyton finished seeing patients and making rounds. The office routine would be over early, so they would do rounds at the hospital early to be able to get to the Audi Dealer on time.

They got to the dealership, owned by their Ford dealer friend, Richard Pugh. Peyton and Jaiden picked out a sleek, shinny black Audi 8, wrote a check, and drove it home. When they got home, they called Leon and Andrew to come over and see the new car they had purchased.

Leon and Andrew walked around to the Riley-Reynolds home, and when Leon saw the car, he was red with envy. It was the car of his dreams and he gushed about how much he wanted one. Jaiden tossed him the keys and said, "Let's take it for a drive and see what you think. Peyton and I want to sit in the back to see how comfortable it is riding in the back.

Leon was amazed at how comfortable the car was and how well it drove. He drove back to his brother's house, and when they got out of the car, Jaiden aske what he thought of the car. Leon was unbelievably complimentary. Peyton tossed the keys back to Leon and said, "Happy Hanukkah, bro!

Leon's knees buckled, and tears gushed from his eyes. He and Andrew got a mountain home from their families, so never in a hundred years would he have ever guessed his brother and brother-in-law would bestow such a gift on him. Peyton opened the door and made Leon sit down before he fainted.

"Jaiden, Peyton, I can't accept this, this is way too expensive. You have done so much for me already, and there is no way I can eve repay you for what you have already done to help me." Peyton told Leon that he had repaid anything he owed long ago by the way he straightened out his life, by the hard work getting his doctorate and becoming a child psychologist, and being a part of the medical practice.

The next day when Leon arrived at work, he walked into his office to find on his desk a picture of him sitting in his new car. He did look sharp in that vehicle.

The ladies in the office told Leon how cute he looked driving his gift. He told them he was still finding it hard to believe Peyton and Jaiden had bought that car for him.

That day, at Lunch, Leon took everybody to the Country Club for Prime Rib, Jaiden's favorite meal. There was enough room in the back of the new car for Richard to ride with them, so the 5 guys had an amazing time relaxing and spending a quiet lunch together.

Jaiden and Peyton had long thought their salaries as Chief of Staff in Oncology at the hospital along with their practice were somewhat high, but, today that salary averages $382,360 per year. If they were just Chiefs in Oncology, the pay would only be about $64,000 in addition to their practice salaries. Working at St. Jude's in Memphis and being chosen to lead oncology at the hospital has really paid off for the young doctors.

"High, mom. What's up?" "Jaiden, I am so proud of you for how successful you have become, but what I am most proud of his how you and Peyton look after his brothers and how had you two work to help them be as successful as possible. You remind me so much of your dad, and I know he, too, would be so proud of you."

"Thanks, mom. I don't feel like we are any sort of special people. What we do for one we believe in doing for all. Yes, we have five boys, but if we do anything for any of them, we do it for all ten children. It's a mitzvah to us and a mitzvah to God the way we see it. We feel truly blesses to have our parents, and our success is due in large part to how we were raised, which reminds me, have you heard what the children did on Saturday morning?"

"No, I haven't; why?" They prepared their own breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen, and put the dishes into the dishwasher. They even made a batch of the Hawaiian batter for waffles and put it in the back of the fridge for us. Then they were quiet outside and let us dads sleep in a bit. It was awesome. I talked to Ginny and she said the children asked to learn how to cook their meals, so she and Granny have been teaching them to cook. They prepared scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, grits, and Mary B's Homemade Biscuits. Then, when we dads prepared our breakfast, the children came inside and had waffles and moreturkey bacon with us.

"Wow! It sounds like you guys had a nice, eventful weekend." "We did, Mom, and we were and are so proud of the children and their desire to learn whatever they can." "That is so wonderful to hear son. It sounds like they are taking after you in a lot of ways." "Well, Mom, the desire to cook is something they didn't get from me. Peyton, maybe, but not from me. And Dale, he is so patient with all the children learning to cook things in the kitchen with him. I don't think I could be any happier than I am."

"I needed to hear some good news, Jaiden; thank you!" "You're welcome, Mom." "Son, while I am thinking about it, I am taking a two week vacation around Christmas and Phyllis and I would like to visit and help with the children while Ginny, Granny, and their husbands are on their Christmas trip." "That is awesome, Mom. We and the children will be glad to see both of you and to be able to spend time with you. We'll have hospital rounds to make, but we are closing the office for two weeks during Hanukkah and Christmas time, so we can plan and do something to have some fun and relax. The ladies in the office are getting a three-month bonus for Christmas, and they have no idea. So they may join us for dinner on December 25." "Jaiden, we are Reform Jews, so you can call it Christmas dinner." "Yeah, I know, but I have discovered I like Conservatism Judism since a friend in Savannah told me about his Park Avenue Synagogue in New York. Ari Schwartz is an amazing Cantor, and Rabbi, Dr. Elliott Cosgrove is beyond amazing delivering some of the best sermons I have ever heard. Someday, hopefully, sooner than later, I will get to meet my associate in Savannah and thank him for referring me to the Park Avenue Synagogue webcasts. The boys have enjoyed watching the Bar and Bat Mitzvahs on the web casts. They are already studying for their Bar Mitzvahs, and Alaina Noelle is studying for her Bat Mitzvah. I am so proud of my children."

Oh, and by the way, a man in a restaurant spoke disparagingly of the children when we sat next to him. I called him to task and he wanted to fight, so I told him, to bring it on. I ducked his swing and hit him so damned hard, he sailed over two tables and scattered food everywhere. Ronnie, kicked him out of the restaurant after refunding his money and told him not to come back. I went to the hospital and Peyton had my hand ex-rayed and it was broken, so I have been wearing a soft cast.

While we were at the hospital, Roger was there and the guy lied to Roger about what happened and got caught in his lie. We went to court Monday morning, and the judge just happened to be the one and only. The guy confessed to lying to Roger and wound up with a number of years on probation, 4,000 hours of community service, and fines and surcharges totaling $14,000. I had to get onto Nathan Robert because when the man walked past him leaving court, the boy called him a sorry piece of Scheibe, and he didn't say Scheibe. The guy was furious, but he didn't dare say anything in Don's courtroom, not if he wanted to go home instead of to jail." "Don really let him have it, didn't he?" "He did Mom. When it comes to children, don't insult them, and don't abuse them or you're gonna get it in Don's courtroom. "Did you talk to Nathan Robert about what he said?" "I did, Mom, but I don't think it did any good. You don't mess with him or his family without drawing his ire." "Good for him, Jaiden. He won't be bullied and he won't be afraid to stand up for himself. And I do hope your hand is better." "It is -- as long as I don't hit it on a doorway."

"Well, Phyllis and I will be at your house on December 15 and we'll be there for at least two weeks while Ginny and Granny are in Paris. Oh, and do me one favor! Kiss Peyton." "Bye, mom!"

"Peyton, mom asked me to kiss you." "Do we have time after we go to bed?" "I hope so, because my flashlight is very rigid and lubing itself." "Oh, that sounds good to me babe!" "Mee, too!"

"OK, kids, it's 8:00 and time for your baths so you can get to bed." The children being the polite, mindful children they are, took off for the shower to hopefully bathe and engage in water wars with each other.

A few minutes after running to the showers, Abraham Dovid came back into the den -- naked as a jaybird! "Son, why are you in the den with no clothes on?" "Daddy, I am soaking wet, so I can't put clothes on and I didn't get a towel before going to the shower." "But still, Abraham, you could have gotten a towel and wrapped it around yourself before walking into the den!" "I'm sorry, Daddy, it's just that Nathan Robert farted in the steamy shower and it stunk so bad I had to get out. I still smell his fart." Jaiden, Peyton, Dale, and Charlie were about to roll in the floor laughing their butts off.

"OK, son. The smell should be gone by now, so go back and finish your bath and get ready for bed. Daddy Peyton and I will come up in a minute to tuck you boys into bed." With that said, Abraham Dovid disappeared back upstairs to the shower.

Jaiden and Peyton went into the boy's bedroom to tuck them into bed and say their prayers with them -- prayers from their Jewish prayer book. When Jaiden bent over to tuck Nathan Robert in, the boy let out a huge blast that made Jaiden sick to his stomach. There was a can of Linen scented Febreze in the room, and Jaiden sprayed a shot under Nathan's covers and a good spritz around the room.

Both Jaiden and Peyton were gagging when they descended into the den. Charlie said, "That bad, Jaiden?" "That bad, Charlie." Dale was dying laughing because he knew well the kind of stench Nathan Robert could send through the air -- especially in the vanazvk

When the children were fast asleep, the dads went to their rooms and proceeded to send lightening bolts out the windows and under the doors. For some reason, the next morning, the men were in an unusually good mood! One wonders why.

The next morning at the office, Jaiden and Peyton continued the Christmas spirit by giving the ladies their unexpected bonuses -- something that left all three ladies with tears in their eyes.

That same morning, Ginny came in singing to her hearts content, and Granny joined in. They were looking forward to their Christmas trip. Jaiden had never seen Ginny so gleeful. When the children got off the school bus that afternoon, Ginny and Granny told them their grandmothers would be coming to stay with them during Hanukkah. Dale's and Charlie's parents called that morning and said they, too, would be coming to spend the holidays with their grandchildren.

When the children found out their grandparents were coming to Erie, little minds began plotting what they could do to surprise their grandparents. They would fix breakfast for everybody: French style scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, Mary B's homemade biscuits, Hawaiian waffles with strawberry preserves, coffee (they would get Daddy Dale to make that), fresh orange juice (Granny taught them how to peel the oranges and to use the juicer), and milk (for the children of course).

When the grandparents arrived, they took Ginny, Granny, The Reverand and Grampy to the airport and saw them off on their trip to Paris. The guys let their parents know not to come out of their bedrooms until the children came to get them, that it would be an extra special morning.

At 6:30 the next morning, the children bounded out of bed and headed to the kitchen to start their surprise for their grandparents. A number of years had passed and the children were aged 9 headed for 10. They didn't bother changing from their underwear and tee shirts, but several boys had to give themselves a little extra time for obvious new bulges to subside. Even their dads didn't know that time of life had arrived for their sons until they walked into the kitchen and saw a couple of their sons in an excited state. Jaiden got with the other dads and let them know it was time for the `Talk' that needed to occur sooner than later. There are some things the boys need to understand about their bodies, and that it was OK to let their dads know that they may be having pain occurring in their private areas. Since their Uncle Leon was a child psychologist, Jaiden clued him in on the new phase of life and Leon howled with laughter and said he would be glad to talk with the boys." "Jaiden thanked Leon profusely for his offer, because that is not something Jaiden wanted to approach -- at least not yet.

Richard, Sally, Peyton II, and Andrew would be joining Leon, big Andrew, and the Riley-Reynolds and Anderson=Leonard clans for a Hanukkah dinner, which the Rabbis and their families would also be attending.

The outside temperature was rather warm for the time of years, so after dinner, Leon had the boys get their jackets and toboggans on and go outside and sit in the middle of the backyard. The Rabbi asked what was going on and Jaiden told him matter-of-factly, and the Rabbi asked if his son could join the `talk'. Jaiden said yes, and the Rabbi's son bounded outside and joined the other boys.

You never know what to expect coming out of the boys, so when Leon asked them if they knew why he wanted to talk to them in the backyard, Chuck, the blunt child, like his grandfather, said, "Yeah, you wanna talk to us about why our dicks are gettin' hard." Leon threw his head back and lost it. He knew the talk with the boys might be challenging, but he had no idea the discussion would start off on such a funny note. He had a Bluetooth mike on and a Bluetooth speaker turned on in the den so the boy's parents and grandparents could hear the 'talk'.

When Chuck said what he did you could hear Jaiden's mom howl, and her hands clap all the way into the middle of the backyard. It wasn't much different with the other grandmas!

Charlie's dad, Chuck 1, simply said, "I knew that boy was tough and not afraid to speak his mind; just like me!" Charlie's mom, Lindsey, said, "Damned if that isn't the truth," drawing a laugh from the other women.

The talk was short lived with the parents realizing the boys knew more about their bodies than anybody realized. Jaiden said, "Well, so much for the talk of life. Those children know more than I do.

The dads went to the deck to watch their children playing. Peyton walked into Jaiden, put his arms around him and asked, "Babe, what do you want to do tonight?" Peyton, I am so tired today that I would really enjoy snuggling with you under warm covers that our bodies heat up. I still love to smell the scent of your hair, and I enjoy the feel of your skin next to mine. It is funny to me that after 15 years of marriage, I still get excited when I feel your skin next to mine." "Jaiden, it's the same for me. One of the most important things people can experience in life is human touch. Like when we were in college, I still feel an electric sensation when you snuggle up to me. That is something that has become more special by the day. Every day that goes by, I love you a hundred times more than I did the day before." "Ditto, Peyton."

Peyton's mom was watching the young men through the French doors and said, "Peggy, look at our boys. I thought they were truly in love when I got up that morning and saw that Jaiden had held Peyton all night in his lap on the swing on our deck. They are more in love today than they were back then." "I agree, Phyllis, I so wish Jaiden's dad was alive to see how happy his son is, and how his happiness and love for Peyton has grown stronger by the day."

Angela, Dale's mom said, "It's the same way for our boys. I am so sorry that we treated Dale so horribly after he came out as gay. Lindsey replied, "Angela, I know how hard it was for you and Dale when Dale Jr. came out, but it was worse for Charlie, because Chuck and I were so angry about him being gay that we all but disowned him. Now, we are so proud to see him so happy with Dale and their children. We never dreamed we'd have grandchildren, and then our sons gave us their biological children. I still cry at times when I think about how badly we treated Charlie. Now, just look at him and Dale together with their children. They couldn't be happier. They have grown so much, and thanks to Jaiden and Peyton, they have graduate degrees and doctorates in their field and doing well in their work. Yeah, even through the mistakes Chuck and I have made raising Charlie, he has turned out so well and made us so happy."

Peggy said, "Lindsey than you so much for the lovely words about Jaiden and Peyton; however, I think it is a little different from what you described about the boys. I believe all four of the boys have contributed to each other's success and happiness. Would we be seeing what we see had they not become closer than blood brothers and stayed together as family? I don't know the answer to that thought, but I don't think they would have been as happy. How blessed we are to have the sons we have." "Phyllis said, "Peggy, you may have a point there. It is so evident how much our boys love each other and how much they love each other's children."

The moms sat quietly, tears streaming down their faces, as they watched their sons playing with their children in the backyard. The do, indeed, know they are truly blessed parents.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, everybody!
