"Good morning, everyone. Three weeks until vacation starts! Ashley, what do you and your husband intend to do?" "Nothing, really, Dr. Jaiden. Tony and I had some expenses come up last month, so we took care of that; we're broke right now." "Carol, how about you and your Jake?" We're just going to sit around Erie and do nothing. We don't have family nearby, so we don't have anywhere to visit that would be enjoyable for us. We just moved into our new home, and funds are low since the closing. We're broke like Ashley and Tony. OK, Maidie, please tell me you and Sam are going to do something fun." "Not really. We thought we'd sit around Erie and have raucous sex for two weeks." "Liar. Nobody has that much energy!"

Everybody in the office laughed until Jaiden said, "Ladies, what you three told me is unacceptable, and I'm not happy with it. Please call your husbands and ask them to come to the office at 5 pm. I want to have a talk with all six of you." Now the ladies were worried. Jaiden had never used that tone before, and they were concerned they had gotten themselves into trouble.

A few minutes after 5, Tony, Jake, and Sam walked into the office and went to the conference room. Jaiden said, "Gentlemen, it's good to see you again; please, have a seat until Peyton, Richard, Peter, and Leon can come into the room."

Jaiden walked out of the conference room and to his office to increase the tension the ladies and their husbands were experiencing. Fifteen minutes later, the doctors entered the conference room and took a seat. The look on their faces indicated that something in the office was amiss. Jaiden entered the room and closed the door rather hard, making the ladies and their husbands nearly jump out of their skin. Jaiden, Peyton, and Richard excused themselves for a few minutes and walked to the front office so Leon and Peter could talk privately with the ladies and their husbands.

Leon started by saying, "If you thought something was wrong or amiss in the office, you're wrong. There is something amiss that only the six of you will know after this meeting, and I swear you to silence under penalty of death if you let what I am about to tell you slip out of your mouths. Jaiden, Richard, and Peyton have no idea that we are also throwing a grand celebration in England after graduation. You see, they have no idea I have been carrying a dual degree program class load, and on June 5th, I will not only receive my Master's degree in Psychology, but I will also receive my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in pediatric counseling. Nobody will know about this until the day of graduation when the President and University Regent announce my accomplishment with honors." "What the five of us are proposing will be stated to you by Jaiden when the other guys return to the conference room."

Peter lifted the telephone, called the front desk, and asked the three doctors to return to the conference room. When they arrived and took their seats, Jaiden took over the meeting and said, "Ladies, it is unacceptable that you and your husbands have nothing to do but sit around Erie for two weeks while we are enjoying our trip to the UK to visit family and to attend the synagogue where my grandfather was chief rabbi for many years. We'll tour historical castles with the children and children's parks on England's west coast and meet my cousins, Jaiden and Payton Reynolds. I had no idea those relatives existed until about five years ago, and I would love to meet them, especially since we share names – and, unfortunately, grandfathers. In another way, the trip will be a photo junket for all of us."

"Ashley, if I remember correctly, you have one teenage son still at home and attending high school." "That is correct, Dr. Jaiden." "Carol, If I remember correctly, you have two children, ages 8 and 10." "Yes, Sir." "And Maidie, you are young, fairly newly married, and have no children as of yet." "Yes, Sir, you are correct."

"Don't get overly upset about what I am about to propose: We want each of you, your husbands, and your children to join us on our trip to England. The practice will pay for your flight and your hotel rooms, and to a large extent, the food you all eat. If you want to venture somewhere different from where everyone plans to eat, you may do so at your own expense. Maidie, Sam, you haven't had a honeymoon. So, we will book a Suite at the new and incomparable Raffle Hotel at Owo in London for the second week of our stay. The practice will cover your meals and expenses. That is our proposal if the six of you and your children will agree to accompany us on our once-in-a-lifetime trip. You can say it is our way of saying thank you for keeping the practice running smoothly while we did our residency in Memphis and for working your fingers to the bone since we returned. What say you all? Will you accept?

With tears in their eyes, the ladies looked at their husbands, whom all nodded affirmatively. The ladies said they graciously accepted the offer but felt that they had not earned such an honor. Richard said, "I don't care what you think about earning this trip; what counts is what we doctors think of the three of you, your families who have put up with the schedules you have kept on our behalf, and the amazing work you did in helping us get this practice established. Without the three of you, we couldn't be as successful as we have been. The other young doctors, Leon included, said, "Here, Here!"

Jaiden said, "Now, we aren't scheduled to close the office until six tonight. Since we would be doing paperwork and not seeing patients, screw the rest of the afternoon. Let's all meet at the country club for a steak dinner. They have my favorite grilled asparagus and Yukon Gold Potato souffle tonight, and that is what I have a taste for. Let's head out."

Ginny, Granny, and their husbands met them at the country club with the children in tow. This would be an experience for the office staff since they'd never had dinner when the guy's children were present. The staff's children had never eaten at the country club before, so it would be a special treat for them. The parents went home, fetched their children, and headed for the club, not telling the children where they would eat. When they arrived at the club, the children's eyes swelled to the size of cat-eye marbles – the big ones! Their parents had coached them to order a hamburger and fries, but the young doctors weren't having that and had already ordered the best steaks on the menu for everybody, the children included.

Although the children ordered as their parents had instructed, they still received the steaks the guys had ordered for them. Panic seemed to fill their eyes when the steaks arrived because they were sure they would get in trouble for ordering the wrong meal. Peyton took care of that fear by informing the staff that he and Jaiden had pre-ordered the steaks for the children; after all, they put up with the absences of their mothers while the office was being established and kept open while the guys were completing their residencies in Memphis.

After the meal was had, Jaiden took everybody to the mall so the children could get ice cream for dessert. The doctors thoroughly enjoyed seeing the children having such a good time. The next day when the mail ran at the office, Jaiden, Peyton, Richard, Peter, and Leon received thank you cards from the children. They didn't expect the thank you cards but felt honored that the children thought enough of them to express their thanks – even if their parents had them write the notes. Ladies, please thank your children for being so polite and writing thank-you notes for last night's party. You are raising them well in getting them to do that." Ashley and Carol said, "Dr. Jaiden, they did that on their own; we didn't have anything to do with that. In fact, we didn't know they had written the notes." "Even more impressive. You have good children!"

"Ashley put her face in her hands as tears flowed from her eyes. She didn't know when she had been so proud of her son, nor did Carol about her children's unprompted show of manners.

Monday, Carol's children had appointments with their dentist, so Carol took them to the office with her until it was time to see the hygienist at the dentist's office. The young doctors made sure to speak with the children, and while they were at the office, they got a free health exam – and updated vaccinations which the children didn't appreciate. Carol apologized for the children's resistance to the shots, and Jaiden told her he would object as well at their age and for her not to be concerned about it. He had fun with the children when he had a break between patients, and the children had a blast interacting with him. Jaiden was having so much fun that Richard and Leon decided to join in on the merriment.

Before Carol left for the day with the children, the boys stood in the hallway until they saw Jaiden had a break for a few minutes. They watched as he entered his and Peyton's office and followed him inside. The eldest spoke up and said, "Dr. Jaiden, my brother and I would like to speak to you for a minute." "OK, fellows, come on in. When the boys walked inside the office, they walked over to Jaiden and asked him to lean over so they could tell him something. When he leaned over, they hugged him and thanked him for including them on the trip to England. The youngest gave Jaiden a kiss on the cheek, which got to him, while the eldest boy shook his hand like a young man. He walked to the front office to tell them he'd see them later and to be good for their mother. They assured him they would. Carol noticed Jaiden's red eyes and asked him what was up. He told her what the boys did, how proud he was of them, and how proud she should be of them. Once again, the boys had shown a level of manners that blew their mother's mind. When they got home, and Carol told her husband what the boys did at her office, he swelled with pride as his eyes turned red - as Jaiden's did.

Jake looked at Carol and said, "Honey, I don't know what we did to deserve our boys, but whatever it was, I thank God he gave us our sons." "Jake, we both thank God for those boys." "You are an amazing mother, and I give you full credit for how our sons are shaping up to become the men they will be." "Jake, don't discount your role in raising our boys, you are an amazing example for them, and they really look up to you for guidance. I have caught them testing you to see if you would love them enough to correct them, and you always do. You don't see their smiles after you correct them or hear them talk about how much they know you love them." "They really do that, sweetheart?" "Yep, Jake, they do, and it always touches my heart when I hear them make those comments." "WOW! I had no idea they did that." "Well, they do. They have so much respect for you, which shows when they are around other men like the doctors at the office." "Jake got really quiet and didn't say anything for quite a while; he couldn't without tearing up. He got up and walked to their kitchen to get some coffee, and while walking toward the kitchen, he muttered, "Damn, those boys are amazing."

Ashley's son, a teenager, had liberties the younger boys didn't have, and the next day after school, he got off the bus at the hospital and walked to his mom's office. "Mom, may I talk to you for a minute?" "Sure, Jonathan, let's go to the breakroom."

"OK, Johnathan, what's on your mind, son." "Mom, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the trip the doctors are taking us on. I feel like I should do or have done something to deserve that." "Jonathan, the doctors are really good men, and if they didn't truly care about us, they wouldn't have offered us the trip. Why do you think you should do something to earn the trip?" "Mom, I don't know; it's just a feeling I have. I appreciate it and everything; I just don't understand it."

Leon was standing outside the breakroom door and heard what Jonathan said. He walked into the breakroom and said, "Jonathan, sit down, and let's talk for a minute. Jaiden and Peyton saw Leon enter the breakroom where Ashley and Jonathan were, so they walked close enough to hear the conversations that would be had.

"Jonathan, you don't have to do anything special for people, especially adults, to respect you. The fact that you don't understand your feelings about us wanting to take you and your parents on this special trip speaks volumes about your great character. Believe it or not, we have noticed that before and admired you from a distance for a long time. You try hard to make your parents proud of you, but you don't realize that at the same time, you make us immensely proud of you too." "Really, Mr. Leon?" "Really, Jonathan. You are a good young man who tries hard to do what's right. You may not always be successful at that, but you must realize that neither are the doctors nor me. I've worked very hard to get over the abuse I suffered at your age, and I don't think I have quite gotten to where you are. I have that much respect for you as a great young man. Some adults will say you are an amazing credit to your parents and how they have raised you, and you should be proud of that; I certainly am."

"Mr. Leon, nobody has ever said that to me." "Jonathan, people won't always tell you what they think of you, but one way you can tell what they think is how they treat you." "I never thought about that, Mr. Leon." "Most of us don't, son. Sometimes we don't know until they decide to tell us like I am doing for you now." "Wow, Mr. Leon, I'll have to pay more attention to the people around me, especially how I choose my friends." "Jonathan, somehow I don't think you need to worry about that; you're already doing an amazing job with how you treat people and how you choose your friends."

Jonathan sat down at the breakroom table and stared out the window as his eyes turned red. He had no idea people thought so highly of him, much less that they felt it was partly because of how well his parents had and were raising him. He was so proud of himself – and so was his mother. Leon told Jonathan to accept that someone was doing something nice for him and that he could more than repay them by continuing to be the great young man he was and had always been.

When he left the breakroom, Jaiden hugged him and said, "Leon, that was so awesome what you just did for Jonathan; you are truly an amazing person! Peyton looked at his brother as a tear escaped his eyes; he was so proud of Leon. He grabbed his brother and hugged him for the longest before letting go. He looked at Leon and said, "I am so proud you are my brother and proud of the person you have become. You are just as amazing as you told Jonathan he was." Peyton was so emotional at what he had witnessed that he couldn't say anything else. He would, however, call his parents that night and tell them what Leon had done for Jonathan to settle his bewilderment at the trip on which the guys were including him.

Leon walked to the front office and told Ashley she had an amazing son she should be proud of. "I spoke with him about the trip, and I think he feels a lot better about us helping him in that regard. If every young person had Jonathan's morals and self-esteem and acted in the best interest of everyone who knows him, this world would be a much better place for all people to live in. Ashley, you have no idea how proud I am to know your son; he is an intensely amazing boy." Richard heard Leon's comments to Ashley and thought, "WOW! Leon has come a long way. I am so proud of him."

That night, Peyton called his parents and became emotional when he tried to tell them what transpired during the day with Leon. "Mom, he made Richard and me so proud to be his brothers. I wish you could have been there and heard how gentle he was in talking with Jonathan and how he set the boy at ease about the trip to the UK. Jonathan felt he should have done something to earn that trip and felt that he hadn't. If the way Leon talked to Jonathan indicates how he will be as a psychologist, he will be incredibly amazing as a psychologist." Peyton and his parents talked for quite some time before ending their call. When they hung up, Peyton's mom called Leon to speak with him `to see how things were going.' Of course, she would mention what she had heard about his talk with Jonathan and how proud she and his dad were of him."

When Leon left school and went by his office, he saw Peyton and said, "Mom called me last night. I miss my bio mom, but I wish our mom had been my mom a lot earlier than when she came into my life." Peyton replied, "we all do, Leon; we all do."

Jaiden called his mom and asked her to see if the children would like to go to Tony's for dinner. She told him she would ask, that they were outside and that she would call him back shortly. When she posed Jaiden's question to the children, they went wild with anticipation. The answer was definitely yes, and she let Jaiden know. He asked his mom to load the children into the van and meet them at Tony's at 6:30 that evening.

"High, guys; what do y'all want for dinner tonight?" "Peatza, Daddy. The lone dissenter was Alaina Noelle, who wanted – and got spaschetti. After finishing their dinner, Phil served the children their favorite ice cream and sat down to rest and talk to the dads. They got caught up on all the gossip since they last saw each other, and the guys told Phil about the trip to England. "Dang, guys, I'd like to go on that trip." "Phil, all you have to do is arrange it with Tony, buy a plane ticket, and join us. We can make room for you at the hotel with no problem." "Jaiden, are you serious?" "As a heart attack, bro. The only thing you'll have to pay for besides your plane ticket is your meals while we are there - if you choose to eat somewhere different from where we will eat. Otherwise, your meals are included in your room. We simply need to add you to our itinerary."

After the families left Tony's for home, Phil called Tony to tell him what Jaiden and the guys had offered to him. Tony told Phil to let him think about it and that he would call him back the next day. As soon as Tony hung up, he called Jaiden and Peyton to verify what Phil had told him. Jaiden assured Tony that Phil had been correct in what he said. Tony said he just wanted to make sure. "Jaiden, by the way, I'm sending you a check to pay for everything for Phil; he has more than earned that trip, so I don't want him to have to pay for anything." Jaiden assured Tony he would take care of everything.

The next day, Tony called Phil and told him he could take the two weeks for the trip and that it wouldn't count toward his regular vacation time, and everything, including his room, food, and flight, would be paid for by the company. Phil was shocked beyond belief, sort of like Ashely's son, Jonathan. Phil was so shocked that he called Jaiden that evening and told him what Tony had said. "Phil, did he say anything about spending money?" "He didn't, Jaiden, and I wasn't about to ask a question like that." "Well, Dude, you're gonna need some spending money, or you aren't going to be able to do anything like the amusement parks, go to the beach, ride on the trains around the UK, and see the sights in London. By the way, we'll be staying at the Holiday Inn in London, and believe me, it is a lot fancier than Holiday Inns we are all used to." "Jaiden, I'll see what I can do to get some money from my savings account to cover the incidental expenses."

"Phil, you dumbass. Peyton, Richard, and I are millionaires several times over, and we'll pay what Tony doesn't. He called and said he'd pay for everything, and that should include the incidentals. If it doesn't, we'll cover those for you. Besides, my mother and Peyton's parents are going on the trip with us, and we can guilt them into paying for almost anything you want. You have done a lot for my family, and we need to do something to repay your kindness." "Dude, I haven't done anything that Tony hasn't told me to." "Bull, your kindnesses to and your interaction with my children come from your heart, not from Tony." "True, but that doesn't earn such a trip for me in my book." "Tell you what, we'll book you an appointment with a psychologist and let you debate that idea with him; he's already had to speak with a young man we're taking on the trip with his mom."

"Jaiden, who all is going on the trip?" "Well, let's see: Me, Peyton, Dale, Charley, and our children; that is 14 people off the bat. Then there is Richard, Sally, and their three boys, bringing the total to 19. Then, there is my mother, Jaiden's parents, Seth, Richard's and Peyton's brother, and Jenny, their sister, her husband, and their three boys, bringing the total to 28 people. Suppose I can talk Ginny, Gampy, Granny, and The Reverend into going with us. That will make 32 people, 33 with you."

I almost forgot Ashley, Tony, and Jonathan; that makes 36 people. Add to them Carol, Jake, and their sons Brandon and Alex, and the total climbs to 40. By the time we add Maidie and Sam, we'll have 42 people total on the trip." "Jaiden, are you paying for all those people?" "Phil, Peyton, and I are fairly well off, but we'd be broke if we paid for all those people to go on the trip. We're paying for our office staff and their families to repay them for all the help they gave us while we were working on our Residency in Memphis and trying to keep the office open and staffed here in Erie. They did an amazing job accomplishing that. Everybody else is financing their trip with us. We're a very close family, and we couldn't think of a better way to have fun than to be with our family on a once-in-a-lifetime trip." "And you are including me on that trip?" "Phil, you are family to us, and we take care of family, you know that."

Jaiden, I know we have been and are close friends, but I never knew that you considered me family. Thanks for telling me that; it makes my day, my life even." "We'll to us you are family, and to our children, you are their Uncle Phil. Next time you come to the house, ask the children who you are; they'll tell you you're Uncle Phil."

When the guys got home, Jaiden told Peyton, Dale, and Charley that he got a total on the number of people going to England. "Charley asked, "How many, Jaiden?" Jaiden said, "Drum roll, please! There are 42 people making the trip, including us." "Jaiden, you put this trip together, so may I ask you one question?" "Sure, what do you want to know?" "ARE YOU CRAZY?" "Probably, Charlie, but think of it this way: there will be enough people to help watch our children that we'll be able to have some fun too!" "I didn't think of it that way, bro; that's smart thinking!" "Yeah, I know." Everybody started laughing after Jaiden made his admission.

"Charley, do you know what will be fun taking the trip?" "What, Jaiden?" "Watching the stewardesses on the jet become horrified when they see us get on the airplane with 13 children, granted Andrew isn't a small child." "No, I can see the stewardesses' reactions now: gentlemen, we're sorry, but you can't make this flight; we feel the children will be too distracting to the other passengers."

"Charley, if any one of them says that, take ten steps backward and get ready. When I get through with them, United will charter a jet just for us – at their expense!"

"Jaiden, you would do that, wouldn't you?" "Damn straight I would, Charley; besides, my mother's second cousin is vice president of customer relations at United Airlines, and I don't think she would take kindly to someone dissing our children. I think it will be fun when we get to England, deplane at Gatwick, and hear our fellow passengers comment on how well-behaved our children were on the flight." "Do you really think the other passengers will do that, Jaiden?" "I sure do, Charley; the children will sleep most of the way to the UK, and they will sleep hard." "How do you know that already, Bro?" "Easy: Peyton, Richard, Peter, and I are pediatricians, and we'll ensure the children rest comfortably on the trip so we can do the same. We'll be riding on an Airbus jet, and they are pressurized at a lower altitude pressure than Boeing planes, so we won't have the usual jet lag when we get to England. Remember when we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and how we weren't tired when we got there and weren't tired when we got home? It was because we flew both ways on an Airbus jet." "Yeah, I forgot about that."

"England is six hours ahead of us, so if we leave at 7 am, we should get to Gatwick Airport around six pm our time and midnight England time, provided there are no delays leaving Erie International. That'll give us a good night's sleep in the UK, and we'll be raring to go the next morning." "What is the first thing you want to do that morning, Jaiden." "Charley, I want a full, traditional English breakfast. Since the children will eat the same thing, please make sure to have several bottles of Beano on hand." "Why Beano at breakfast, Jaiden?" "A full, traditional English breakfast has baked beans on the plate, Charlie."

"Enough said, Jaiden. Damned if I am riding in a vehicle with ten children who have eaten baked beans." "Charley, it isn't ten children; it will be 14." "In that case, I am not riding in any vehicle carrying that many children who ate baked beans for breakfast, Beano or no Beano." "You won't have to, bro; we'll be taking the trains most everywhere we go. Everything will be within a short walking distance from where the trains start and depart, and you can sit far enough away that you might not smell the remnants of the children eating baked beans." "Jaiden, that means I will have to ride in a separate train; those children make an excruciatingly pungent stink when they eat beans." That will be OK, Charley, because I will be in the same car with you – provided Peyton will let me."

"Not a chance, Jaiden!" "Why not, Peyton?" "If I am going to have to smell the children's bean farts, you have to as well; don't think you're going to get out of it that easily." "Damn. Told you, Charley." Charley and Dale laughed their butts off until Peyton reminded them: they were responsible for their own children, especially after they ate any kind of beans." That got to Charley, and he gave Peyton an eat crap look that caused Peyton and Jaiden to laugh in turn.

Yep, it's gonna be an interesting and eventful trip with 14 or so children!
