Chapter 2: Jackson And Brett
By Caleb O.
Jackson POV:
I am thinking about Brett's Kiss. I don't understand it, but it has affected me more than I care to admit; not only is he my roommate, but Chad's older brother, my first love.
The first week of college is going okay. I met some of Brett's buddies, and they seem nice, especially Scott; he is funny and seems to understand me; he even suggested that he senses a vibe between Brett and me.
Natalie is so sweet, and she even asked me to be her "gay best friend." I feel so bad that Brett would kiss me while he is dating her. I can't say I don't feel the same about him, but it would kill me to see Natalie get hurt by us.
So far, Brett has ignored the topic of our kiss and seems to suffer a case of amnesia. He is the one who kissed me and asked me out, and when I asked him about it the other day, he froze up, and then he made some excuse about having to leave to see Natalie.
i am walking to the dorm from my Ecology Class, and i hear loud, angry voices coming from inside; it is Brett and Chad. I say, "i enter and say, if you want me to go while you two figure out whatever is going on, I can do that,"
Brett inhales deeply, saying, "No, Jackson, you don't have to go; it's your dorm, too. Chad gives me a kind of death stare and storms out.
I then say, "What's his problem? Are you alright? What got you two so worked up about?
He says, "Actually, it kind of relates to you."
I say, "Really? What about.
He says, "Well, the other day when you ran into us in the hallway, he accused me of staring at you,
I say, "What? he sounds jealous; he has no right to be; he broke up with me in high school. Why does he care?
And about that, you are confusing me; you kissed me the other day, then we don't talk about it; when I bring it up, you run away; what is that about?
He then says, "I'm sorry about that; I just always thought of myself as straight, but you bring out feelings in me that I never thought I had; it is confusing. I do think I might be bisexual; on the other hand, you are the only man I ever have these types of thoughts and feelings about
Anyway, I was wrong to kiss you and then ask you out. I am embarrassed that I did that. Can you forgive me?
I say, "Of course, I just, uh... it threw me for a loop, and I feel some attraction towards you, but it would be better for everyone involved if we just stay roommates and Nothing more.
He looks at me with a sad face and says, "Yeah, you are right. Do you want to play any video games? We both deserve to relax a little bit before tomorrow's classes.
I say, yeah, sounds like a plan. First, I need to call someone.
I dial my parent's phone number, and my first my mom answers,
"How are you doing, honey? Is everybody treating you well? Are you eating? Did you make any new friends?"
Whoah, slow down a bit, I say with a chuckle. What with all the questions,
She says, "You are my son, and it's your first Week at college. I just wanted to make sure you're doing all right.
I get it, Mom, I do. Is Dad there?
She says, "he's outside talking to our neighbor again, fighting over the fence again. I told him not to worry about it so much, but he's so insistent on being right he did it anyway.
I say Sounds like Dad.
She says Dan and Julie are here; they're having a baby.
That's amazing. I said I get to be an uncle.
She says, "You could be a father too someday; you just have to, um...
I then say I have to what, Mom?
She says, "Nothing, I didn't mean anything by it; you know I love you; I don't understand this homosexuality phase and stuff. Anyway, I got to get going to make some dinner. Thank you for calling me. Talk to you later. Bye." click.
Brett then approaches me and says, "I overheard your conversation with your mom. I didn't mean to eavesdrop. It sounds like she's struggling with accepting your sexuality.
I then say with an attitude, 'That sounds like someone I know.'
I didn't mean to upset you. I'll go
Don't go, I say, please. I don't want to be alone right now.
Okay, what I want to say is you are becoming a good friend of mine, and regardless of what feelings I may or may not understand, you are a special person, and you deserve true happiness and understanding.
Before I could reply, my phone rang, and it was Dan.
I answer it and say.
Hey Brother, why are you keeping secrets from me? I heard from Mom that you and Julie are having a baby.
No, Jackson, I was just about to call you before you called Mom,
Sure, you were where I said. Anyway, do you have a name picked out?
Yeah. We have a boy's and a girl's names, and Julie wants it to be a surprise until we know the sex.
I say I understand.
He continues and says I also want to know how you're doing; I heard from Jessica that your roommate is Chad's brother. That's going to be awkward, no?
Yeah, it is a little bit he is a nice guy, and unfortunately, Chad visited him in our dorm the other day. And he seems to be mad at me but also jealous.
Sounds like A very complicated situation.
Definitely, but I'll manage. You are becoming a father. Isn't that so exciting?
Yeah, but I'm also a bit nervous.
What are you talking about? You'll be a great father and do excellent if you're half the father as a brother.
Oh, stop, you're too kind anyway. Julie wants to talk to you now, so I'll let you go. Talk to you later.
Hi Julie.
Hey Jackson, I'm glad you and him got to talk, but I wanted to tell you that I appreciate how good you are to Dan; some siblings like to fight a lot, and you, Dan, and Jessy seem very close, and I'm happy about that.
my family is so dysfunctional that I don't even think I will tell them about being pregnant; they will probably use that as an excuse to try to see me, which I don't want, and then like to pretend that they were not drug addicts who abandoned me,
anyways, I did not mean to spring that upon you,
It's okay; having someone to talk to about it can be helpful.
I then hear my door open suddenly, and Chad is standing there,
I say, "What are you doing here?
He says...
