If It Weren't For the Two of Us Chapter 33

July 15
Mike and I were in a good place again. I realize if a person is in love with someone, they have to allow that person to be human, to be able to make mistakes. I suppose I'm maturing. His birthday is Friday. We are heading to his parents' home this weekend. I can't wait to meet them. Hopefully, they will like me.
Lance told me he wanted to go to an AA meeting on his own. I told him to give me a call when he got home.
I'm becoming friends with a few people at work. I enjoy their company. I think one is gay. I'm considering doing a few things with them outside of work. Mike had commented that he didn't have a wide circle of friends. I'm hoping he would be willing to join me for a little socializing.
Plus I got my first paycheck today!
"Hello gorgeous! How are you!" I said into my phone.
"My! Someone is in a good mood," he answered.
"Got my first paycheck!!"
"Awesome. It's a great feeling, isn't it? It's also horrifying to see how much is taken out, right?"
"Well, yeah, but this is my first big paycheck, so it feels really good regardless."
"Be sure to not spend it all in one place."
"I'm being very frugal. Considering my apartment still needs a lot, I don't plan on splurging like crazy."
"A little at a time."
"I can't wait to meet your parents! I'll be ready to go as soon as I get off. How long is the drive?"
"A little less than three hours. I know, it's a bit of a drive."
"No problem."
A tone came in on my phone.
"Oh, Mike. It's Lance. He went to his third meeting. Can I get that?"
"Sure. Give him my best."
I switched calls.
"Hi buddy! How did it go?"
"Ok. I guess."
"You don't sound convincing."
"Oh, Trent. I chickened out."
"What do you mean?"
"I was so convinced that I was going to get up and say something. I probably fidgeted in my seat for 30 minutes. I watch everyone and listen to their stories. They seem so brave. They don't hold anything back. It has to be hard to admit some of those things out loud."
"I suppose that's part of the healing process," I said. "It's okay to take your time. I'm just so happy you are going. Look how far you've come."
"Seven pounds down."
"That's amazing. You are the man."
"Trent, I promise I am going to share at the next meeting. If I don't, I will let you have that sweatshirt of mine you love."
"From Grand Canyon? I so want to get there some day."
"Maybe we can go together."
"How many days is this? 12?"
"Yep. Evan has been helpful in being a friendly chaperone."
"Do you have less desire to drink?"
"I do. I think staying busy is helping. Just not having it within reach is the best thing."
"How's the wrist?"
"Better. Now it itches more than hurts."
"That's temporary."
"Want to do something this weekend?" he offered.
"I'm meeting Mike's parents this weekend. We're going there for his birthday. I should be kind of scared, but it's a big step, so I'm probably more excited."
"I'm jealous. You guys are so great together."
—
Mike picked me up just minutes after I got home. We both had music to play on the way. My suitcase was packed.
"Okay, is there anything I should know about your parents?"
"Well, my mother was incarcerated for a few years for being a serial killer."
"Hey!" I said, slapping him in the arm. "I'm serious. Anything I should or shouldn't do? Should or shouldn't say?"
"Just be yourself. They'll love you."
"What have you told them?"
"They know you are younger than me, so that's all addressed."
My excitement was slowly morphing into anxiety. My parents were such an unpredictable mess. What if his parents didn't like me? I am younger. What if they think it is too weird?
Mike put in his music. Our age difference isn't so significant that many of our favorites don't overlap; we enjoy many of the same artists. We sang together on a few of the songs. It was the first time I had heard him sing. He probably hadn't heard me sing either. I really liked doing that. We had pretty good harmony. It was a way we had never connected before. It was fun. Mike was a Phil Collins fan. "You'll Be In My Heart" came on. He reached for my hand as we blended our voices. We were like kids singing in the back of a parent's car. It surprised me how much enjoyment I got out of that.
My cell rang. Mike turned down the music.
"Hi Mom!"
"Hi dear. It's Friday night, so I figured you might have a chance to talk."
"Actually, I'm on the road. Mike is driving. We are going to visit his parents this weekend. Today is his birthday."
"Oh, put him on!"
I put the phone on speaker.
"Happy birthday, dear. I hope it is a wonderful weekend."
"Well, thank you, ma'am. I'm looking forward to showing off your son. I know my parents are going to love him."
"Amen! What's not to love with Trent, right?"
"Moving ON ..." I said, not enjoying being the topic of discussion. "How are things there?"
"Good. Your father is grilling chicken in the backyard. I've got potato salad ready."
"Sounds good. How do you think he feels about ... you know ... Mike and me?"
"Well, as you requested, I haven't told him that you are dating Mike specifically. But we've talked from time to time. I think he has accepted it. Better at least. If I know your father, I think he feels he did something to you when you were growing up that caused you to be gay."
"Tell him it was the ant spray in my room in third grade."
Mom and Mike laughed.
"Do you remember Dolores?" Mom said.
"The woman with you at The Showcase? Yeah, I remember."
"We've been friends for 15 years. I had no idea one of her brothers was gay. I mentioned the tension between you and your father a few weeks ago, and she told me all this information I didn't know. I couldn't believe it."
"We're out there."
"Speaking of The Showcase, Trent is entering," Mike said.
"I know!"
"I've read part of it. It's totally fantastic. I wouldn't expect anything less from him, but it is really, really good."
"I'm confident they will pick your work, honey," Mom said.
"You are my mother. You have to say things like that."
We talked for about 10 minutes, then Dad was coming in with the chicken. Mom wished us well and told Mike to have a wonderful birthday. After we hung up, he said he liked her a lot.
"She called me `dear.'" He smiled at me.
We put music back on and sang for a while. I felt happy.
My phone buzzed. It was a text from Dad.
"Mom said you are going to your boyfriend's parents this weekend. I hope you have a good time."
Wow. For Dad to use the word boyfriend and wish me a good time was sort of a big step. I sent him a "Thanks" text.
We went through a drive-through to get a drink and just a small snack to tide us over. The length of the drive wasn't necessarily ideal, but it was nice just to be away from everything. We connected during the drive.
Eventually we pulled up. The house was a small, red-brick one-story but looked well-kept and the front of the house had several nice-looking flower beds.
"Come in, come in!" his mother shouted from the door. "Ooooooohhh, it's so good to have you home," she said, giving Mike a big hug as we walked in.
"Mom, this is Trent."
"Oh my! You are young!" she said, looking me over.
"Mom!"
"Oh, leave her alone," I said. "The woman has eyes. Hi. It's nice to meet you Mrs. Terry."
"Please, call me Brenda," she said, pulling me in for a hug, which I didn't expect.
"And I'm Carter," said a man walking up behind me, extending his hand. "Welcome."
"You two must be starved. We have everything ready for dinner."
The four of us sat around the dining room table. Pot roast apparently was Mike's favorite dish, so his mother had that, complemented by mashed potatoes, glazed carrots and a beautiful salad. A homemade birthday cake was sitting on the counter.
His parents showed sincere interest in my job. I'm sure the details of my work aren't fascinating, but the fact that I was at a radio station seemed exciting to them. I shard that I had done a small internship for a few weeks at a local radio station the first semester of my freshman year. I really liked them. They were very polite people and seemed so accepting of me. It was refreshing. It totally put me at ease.
Following dinner, we paused before dessert to open gifts. Mike made a comment about being too old to still be getting gifts. His parents had a wrapped gift the size of a loaf of bread. Once Mike had opened the box, on top was a Starbuck's gift card. He nodded, acknowledging he would use it because of his love of coffee. Underneath it was something wrapped in tissue. Mike peeled it away and there were two rolled up T-shirts. Mike rolled out the first one. It said "Terry's Vineyard and had a graphic of bottles of wine. He unrolled the other. It said, "Kyriazi's Bar and Grill."
"We got something for you both," Brenda said. "We saw these in a catalogue, and I thought it would be fun for the two of you to wear together. I had to double-check the spelling of your name, Trent."
"Ah. Now that question makes sense," Mike said.
"How thoughtful," I said. "I love it."
"Me too," said Mike.
He hugged his parents.
I handed him a card. "This is from Lance. He dropped it off last night — delivered via bicycle."
Mike opened it and chuckled at the simple humor. I handed him my gift. It also was in parts. The first bag was an assortment of numerous things vanilla — from soaps to a candle to coffees, etc.
"Oh, he loves vanilla," his mother chuckled.
"I know."
The second part was a dress shirt.
"Ooo, I love the color," Mike said.
He noticed something in the pocket. It was a small book, just like one he had shown me back in May. His eyes gave me a look. I nodded, indicating I had written something inside.
"Later," I mouthed.
Below that shirt was a T-shirt wrapped in tissue. He unrolled it. It was from Daniel's.
"That was the first place he took me," I explained to his parents.
"Thanks, babe," he said, giving me a simple kiss.
My card was at the bottom. It was terribly mushy. He read it and smiled. He blinked his eyes a few times to blot water welling up in them. He gave me another kiss. His parents grinned at the two of us. I couldn't fathom kissing Mike in front of Dad.
We gathered back in the kitchen and his mother placed a candle in the middle of the cake. His father found a lighter and lit it. We clumsily sang "Happy Birthday." Mike blew out the candle.
"I didn't even have to wish for anything because I have everything I want," he said, reaching for my hand.
His parents smiled at the touching remark. Brenda put her hand on her heart, then turned to cut the cake. Carter pulled out two cartons of ice cream to go with the chocolate cake.
"We have traditional vanilla and cookies & cream," he said.
Mike and I both chose cookies & cream. We all enjoyed dessert and small talk. Our evening conversation lasted longer than they had intended, but I could tell they really enjoyed Mike being home. Eventually we moved toward turning in for the night.
Mike and I brushed our teeth and headed into the bedroom. I got in bed first, stripped naked as usual. Mike turned out the lights and slipped into the sheets wearing his boxers.
"Hmm. Should I be wearing something when we are at your parents' house?" I softly asked. "Heaven knows I have a horrible record of people walking in. Should I be prepared for that?"
"Ha. Well, I always feel weird if I'm at Mom and Dad's and not wear something to bed. I don't know. A parent thing, maybe? I did with Ethan too." He kissed me. "You're fine. I doubt if they will charge in during the night."
I wrapped my arms around him and gently teased his chest hair.
"Was it an okay birthday?"
"Oh yeah. Surrounded by people who love you? It's hard to ask for more than that," he said.
"It seems like a crime to not get sex on your birthday," I noted, moving my hand down to grope his crotch through his boxers.
"Kind of hard to do it when your parents are down the hall."
"Challenge accepted," I whispered into his ear. "Pull them down."
"What are you up to?" he whispered, pulling his boxers off and throwing them on my face.
I quietly laughed and then slid my head down into the sheets. My mouth slowly took his cock, swallowing it completely. He breathed out and let his fingers gently sift through my hair under the cover. I was determined to service my man with birthday sex, so I kept up a slow, steady rhythm for several minutes. His breathing conveyed I was doing a good job. There was no slurping, no jarring movement, just slick sucking slow and easy. It took about 15 minutes for my slow-motion blow job to work its magic. Mike stayed completely silent through the entire process. The only word he softly said was "Trent" when his cum started filling my mouth. His fingers gripped the hair on my head. After I was confident every drop of his orgasm had escaped his cock, I gradually slipped my lips off the head of his hardened penis and brought my head out of the sheets. I kissed him and our tongues shared his creamy pleasure.
"Happy birthday, Michael."
"I love you, J.T. Thanks for being my best gift."
—
I had gone for a morning run. Mike stayed in to visit with his parents. Upon my return, I needed to shower before we sat down to lunch. Once clean and shaven, I joined the family. We actually used leftovers to make roast beef sandwiches with simple chips and watermelon slices for an easy meal. Brenda said dinner would be a little more than leftovers. I made sure she knew I thought everything was just fine.
Mike and his father were tinkering in the backyard early in the afternoon. His mother and I sat with a glass of lemonade on the back porch watching them.
"Michael seems very taken with you, Trent," Brenda told me. "He hinted at seeing someone new to us in the spring, but since you two have become more serious, he just ... seems happy again. You are good for him."
"Well, thanks. That's very nice of you to say. You've done an amazing job raising your son. He's a wonderful man. Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful that we've found each other. Most people either think we're adorable or a total mismatch because of the age thing."
"Can't you be both? Just because your ages don't match exactly doesn't mean you don't work. You two are such a wonderful match. He used to be the young one with Ethan, you know."
"I guess. I met Ethan this week."
She looked surprised. "Oh? Why?"
I told her the story about Mike babysitting the dog while he was away. She turned her head and stared at the two men in the backyard. Her face indicated she was deep in thought, remembering something. I didn't interrupt.
"I liked Ethan well enough. I was happy that Mike seemed serious with someone. I couldn't believe they moved in together so quickly, but I was hopeful. But it was sad. By Christmas, I could tell things had changed. The two of them seemed disconnected. I didn't see a spark in his eyes anymore."
She turned toward me.
"But I see it now. You've returned the spark to my boy. Thank you for that."
"I hope to keep that spark burning for as long as I can," I told her. "I truly love him."
"And I can tell he's madly in love with you. A mom knows."
I smiled feeling so supported by his family. What a drastic difference to my family's high drama. I reflected on what she said. I truly felt my mother knew how much I loved Mike.
His parents had invited a few of Mike's old school friends who still lived in town to come by. He introduced me to them. The curious stares conveyed what they were thinking, but they were still polite. One of them brought him a card.
Mike and I were sitting on the couch after they had left.
"How hard was it to come out to them?" I asked.
"Well, I only had to do it once. After I told one, he told the rest of the town." He chuckled. "I was worried. We had grown up together. I thought it would freak some of them out. One of them wasn't too keen on the idea of me being gay, but most everyone else seemed perfectly fine with it. I thought that was a pretty good ratio."
"What took you to Jackson Bend?"
"College, I guess. My first two years were at your alma mater. When I graduated from Harding – Wesley, I kind of missed Jackson Bend. It was bigger ... and certainly a bigger city than this. I guess because I kind of knew my way around, not to mention was exposed enough to the gayborhood, I wanted something like that where I lived. I've been happy there."
—
That evening we played cards. It was fun. I hadn't played cards in a long time. Part of the fun was watching Mike interact with his parents. I've always looked up to him as this older man, but with them, he's just a kid.
Between games, I texted Mom and Dad at the same time.
"Having a wonderful time. His parents love me."
Dad replied first, surprisingly. "That's because you are a wonderful young man."
Mom added, "Of course. You're an angel."
I rolled my eyes, but it was nice feeling a little better about my own situation. They weren't Carter and Brenda, of course, but ... steps in the right direction.
Just before sunset, we heard a knock at the door. Carter answered and said hello to someone named Nathan.
"Hey, Mr. Terry. I heard Mike was here!"
Mike heard the voice and hopped up.
"Nathan! Dude, get in here."
They hugged.
"How long has it been?" Nathan observed. "Like forever. Is Ethan with you?"
Mike's parents looked at me. I'm sure they were concerned I wouldn't like that. I was okay.
"Sorry, Nathan. I guess you didn't know that Ethan and I split last summer. I'm with someone new. I'd like you to meet Trent." Mike waved me over.
Nathan looked at me and laughed. He laughed hard. "Like I'm falling for that, dude."
"Nathan, calm down. I'm serious. Trent is the new man in my life."
"Oh, sorry man. I didn't mean anything. Shit, you're a young dude."
"So I've been told."
I didn't know what to make of this Nathan. He didn't seem like a person Mike would pal around with, but then again, high school friends are a mixed bag sometimes.
Things were awkward for a few minutes, but the two tried their best to get past the moment. They visited for about 10 minutes. I didn't feel a need to interject into the conversation.
"Nice to meet you, Brent," Nathan said, preparing to leave.
"Sure," I said, not correcting him. I gave a simple wave.
Mike walked over and opened his arms. I walked into them. "Sorry about that," he said.
"I think we could use some cake," Brenda said.
We chuckled and thought it was a good idea.
—
Mike joined me for the run the next morning. Much to my surprise, he joined me in the shower. I didn't think he would do that at his parents' place. Not that they were listening at the door. It was nice to lather up and just feel each other's bodies naked with slippery suds. Both of us got stiff erections, but there wasn't a lot we could do. We just kissed and groped in the water, and that served as welcome intimacy.
We enjoyed a great lunch but knew we had to be heading back shortly. I packed up things as Mike visited a little longer. I tried to make the bathroom look as neat as possible. I pulled the two small suitcases out and set them by the door.
"Trent, you take care of him. It was wonderful meeting you. I hope you visit with him often. You two are always welcome here as much as you want to come."
That was a real mom thing to say, but I knew she was sincere. She gave me a huge, tight hug.
We didn't sing as much on the way back. Mike seemed drowsy so I offered to drive a bit. He let himself slip off into a nap. I tried to picture taking Mike home to my parents. They both knew him. Mom seemed to be pretty accepting nowadays. Dad was just now getting to the point to where he believed I was gay. Would a man many years older be too much — particularly the fact that Mike used to be one of my teachers!? That scared me for sure. Lost in my thoughts, I reflected on how much had changed in the span of just a few short months. Final exams seemed like eons ago.
We stopped for a bathroom break, and he resumed driving. Later in the trip as we were getting closer to home, I got a text. It was Lance.
"I did it. I shared at the meeting."
"I'm pleased. Need to talk?"
"Nah. Not now. It did me some good."
"Okay. We're not quite back yet. I'll call you tomorrow. Love you."
He sent me back a heart emoji.
When Mike pulled into my parking lot 45 minutes later, I told him once again how much I enjoyed meeting his parents. He was pleased. He thought it was a great birthday weekend. I told him we needed to take a picture of us wearing the shirts soon and text it to his parents. He agreed.
We ordered take out for dinner. Italian sounded like a suitable change from pot roast. We ordered a slice of lasagna and chicken parmesan. We divided them so we could each enjoy both.
As I put the few dishes in the dishwasher, I felt his arms come around me. He whispered into my ear, "You haven't come all weekend. I think we have one last thing to accomplish before I head home."
"Only if we brush teeth first. The garlic bread is doing a number on your breath."
"Fine," he said letting go.
Mike had toiletries at my place, so we both brushed our teeth naked. I never tired of watching his dick swing as he did so. I was already hard, so my erection bobbed more than swung. Once we rinsed and spit, he pulled me to the bed by my erection.
Our kisses were deep. Passionate. Mauling. Tongue-filled. Deep.
We had been groping each other while we kissed. He moved first to take me in his mouth, but he turned his body to where I could shortly do the same. We feasted on cocks. If the toothpaste was still holding out, our penises were minty fresh. I loved consuming his organ. My tongue glided over his flesh, tasting the essence of his skin. We each got sloppier, and the slurps of our blowjobs became considerably more audible.
He pulled his mouth away from my crotch and maneuvered a pillow to prop up against the headboard. "Come up here," he directed.
I straddled his shoulders and force fed my cock to him a few inches at a time. He consumed me. I felt him jerking his own erection behind me. I let my left arm gently graze his hairy arm as he serviced himself.
He pulled his mouth off my dick. "Grab the lube."
Slightly confused, I did. He squirted some in his hand. He glided the slick lubricant over his cock as he moved me into his mouth again. He moaned into my groin in pleasure of sucking my cock and jerking his own shiny rod.
"Yeaaaahhhh," I moaned.
Switching hands, he worked a slick finger into my hole. Gently, tenderly, lovingly. He probed me. I wasn't expecting it. A single finger maneuvered in easily. His tongue toyed with my cock as his finger wriggled in my ass.
"Fuck! I'm coming."
The sensations drove me wild and pushed me over the edge. Bullet streams of cum fired into his face, and I could hear his throat's efforts try to consume the release of my orgasm. As I groaned in my climax, his finger pulsed my ass further, intensifying the sensation. I screamed his name as the last launch of cum escaped my cock.
The bed shook harder as his right hand moved back to his shiny erection. His fist pounded his cock; his mouth still savored mine. His arm raged, his hips bucked, and he groaned into my stiff flesh. His first shot splashed my left ass cheek. The second stream hit my crack perfectly aligned to where it dripped in. The rest of his cum was filtering through his chest hair. Eventually all was still. I slowly pulled my red organ from his mouth. He exhaled.
"Happy birthday to me," he softly said. "What a nice weekend."
After cleaning up, we went to the main room. I threw our towel toward the laundry closet. We embraced at the door.
"I'm glad the weekend went well. It was great to meet your folks."
"My favorite birthday ever," he said, staring into my eyes.
We kissed and he was gone for the night.
I pulled out the journal to scribble a few more notes on the play.
July 19
Mike's parents are great. What a blessing to feel such love and support from family. While not horrific, my situation could be so much better. At least Dad was making headway. But I have to admit, having your parents accept you is a big thing. Mike is so lucky.
I can't wait to connect with Lance. He seems to be making some great steps.

You'll notice a red "3" there at the conclusion of this chapter. This is the point where the third book begins. Look for it to post soon. Hi, I'm Lance is the title, and Lance's story will now align alongside Trent's.
If you would like to be notified when those chapters drop in the future, send me an email: timothylane414@gmail.com
As always, more information is available on the blog: timothylane414stories.blogspot.com
As much as I love Trent's story, Lance's really moves me. I hope you will enjoy the third part of this "trilogy" of sorts. But fear not, Trent's story is not over.
