"That was the last I saw of either of them until Gordon came to our room a couple of hours later.
Gordon was smiling as he came into our room.
"So?"
"All we did was talk, honest. I may be fresh out of the house, but I'm not totally green. Aiden and I have an agreement of sorts. Neither one of us is going to push the other into something he doesn't want. We're going to take it slow and easy. Only meeting in public places for a while, and we are both free to end it at any time with no hard feelings."
"Sounds like you know what you are doing to me. I hope that agreement works out well for you both."
"Yeah so do I."
"Really Pete, but I thought you said you are straight?"
"I am. Doesn't mean I can't support the choices of others. Dennis taught me that."
"I think I was more right than I thought when I said I already found the two best people to befriend. Aiden says he'll be joining us jogging if that's not a problem. He's not up to 4 miles, but at least he'll start with us."
"We'll get him there. So what's on the agenda for tonight?"
"It's Frat House Friday. We're going to visit the houses tonight."
"Thinking about joining one?"
"Probably not. Just something to kill time. Wanna come with us?"
"Pete?"
"What the hell, beats sitting around here all night."
At that point my phone rang and it was Karl.
"It just dawned on me that its Frat House Friday. Do yourself a favor if you're going house hopping tonight and stay out of the last house on Frat road."
"And we want to avoid this house why?"
"To avoid temptation. The house is loaded with gay guys. You would be invited upstairs in a split second. They only do that for one thing and given how you reacted with Jason, well I don't need to arrive there to a basketcase."
"No promises but I'll keep it in mind. I do have some self control afterall."
"Just thought I would warn you. Love you. I should be there about 2."
"Which means that by the time you process in and moved into your room it will probably be around 5 before you make it over here."
"Unless of course you meet me in the parking lot and help me move in."
"True enough. Call me when you know where you'll be staying. Andy seems to think you'll end up in Cochran Hall."
"That sounds about right but you never know for sure."
"Ok then later love."
"Ok what was all of that about?"
"Karl just wanted to warn us of one of the houses. Seems that last one down on Frat Road is a house full of gay guys. He's worried that I might be tempted, and whatever else might happen."
"Maybe Aiden and I should start there?"
"If you do,don't accept any invitations to go upstairs. Karls says that only leads to one thing, and you've already said you aren't ready for that."
"So I've been warned. Like you said before college is a place for learning. I have to learn how to handle myself. Guess I need to get this stuff stored away. Aiden and I plan on leaving around 8."
"We'll be ready."
Seeing as we were going house hopping tonight I opted to take a nap. I woke up around 5 and Pete wasn't in the room. I headed downstairs to get something to eat and then went back upstairs to the room. Pete still wasn't there. I didn't think much about that. He was either out exploring or had gone to the rec center for something to do.
I stripped and went in to shower and get ready to go house hopping. Pete was back by the time I got out of the shower.
"Still going house hopping?"
"Yeah let me grab a shower and get dressed."
8pm rolled around and Pete and I would step out of our room. Aiden was coming down the hall and it looked like good slacks and a top were the order of the evening.
"We walking to Frat Road or taking a car?"
"Gordon as far as I'm concerned we should walk. It's likely to be impossible to find a parking place anywhere around there, plus we don't have to worry about a DD."
"A DD?"
"Designated Driver Aiden. Beer,if nothing else,is liable to be flowing freely tonight. Either of you been drinking yet?"
"My father would have decked me."
"I used to get a little champagne on New Years Eve."
"Then do yourselves a favor and take it easy tonight. I want to have my jogging partners tomorrow."
I knew damn well I didn't have to warn Pete. I would be surprised if he even had one given his dads history.
It was fairly easy to find Frat road as the crowd was already on the move, with many of the same mind on the parking situation.
Music of varying types was heard coming from the various houses and we stood there at the head of Frat Road.
"Where do we want to start, Hip Hop or country?"
"I'm all for starting with Country Dennis."
"I'm with Pete Country."
"Country works for me too."
So we went to the left side of the street and into the first house.
"Hi guys! Please sign in. You guys serious or just killing time?"
"Just killing time, but we could change our minds I suppose."
"So that's a definite maybe. Better than no. Look around, but unless you're invited stay on the first floor please."
We circulated around and spoke to a few of the house brothers and they were a fairly mixed bunch.
In due time we made our way outside and started to head across the street to the Hip Hop house. We got to the sidewalk and saw that there wasn't another white guy in sight.
"In or not guys?"
"Not"
"Not"
"Not"
We zig zaged down the street, pretty much getting the same treatment at each of the houses.
Finally,we started across the street to the final house. We were stopped about mid street.
"You guys don't want to go in there."
Just what we needed. The red neck squad had shown up. It had been going so nicely too.
"I think we can well decide that for ourselves, but why not?"
"Cause it's a bunch of fags, and we don't want them on campus. If they don't get any new members then their charter will be revoked and the house disbanded."
"You guys obviously don't give a shit about the college policy of no harrassment."
"Policy sucks so they can get the state money to keep the place running."
"Nevertheless, I think we will take our chances."
"Another bunch of faggots guys. What do you say?"
There were no words spoken but the guys started to surround us. We moved back to back to protect each other.
That was when the blue lights came on and everybody froze in their tracks. Campus security officers stepped out of the shadows and started to round up the guys surrounding us. We just stood there and waited to be told what to do.
"I'm going to need your names and room assignments please. You may or may not be required to make an officail statement, That will be up to the office of the Dean of Men."
Naturally we cooperated and gave our names and info and were then told to be on our way. We made our way across the street and were greeted at the door.
"Hope that wasn't too traumatic for you guys. We called them a while ago and it must have taken them so much time to get everything in place for a sting. I'm Kurt, house president. Come on in."
"Those guys said if you didn't get some new members you were going to loose your charter. True?"
"Unfortunately yeah. We're down to 12 members and the charter calls for a minimum of 15."
"Do you take 2 year students?"
"Not normally, but I think we could make an exception."
"Why don't you let us take a look around and talk about it."
"Be my guest."
We went into the house and took a look around. There were a few other guys who seemed to be thinking about it. The brothers that were there were all fine looking guys and Karl had been right. I think just about everyone of them invited me upstairs. I simply told them that I was engaged and that put an end to it.
Pete and I had gotten seperated from Gordon and Aiden, but they had been warned and Gordon had promised to take things slow.
"Pete, I'm thinking about joining just so they can keep their charter. I don't want to see them pushed off campus."
"Hey I sympathsize Den,but I'm not ready for this. Bunking with you is one thing, this is a whole different ball of wax."
"I won't ask you to join Pete I just want you to know where I'm coming from."
"Yeah I can understand that Den and you should do what you think is right."
I looked at my watch and it was almost 11. I took out my phone and dialed Karl.
"You're at the last house aren't you?"
"Yes and they are about to loose their charter if they don't get some new members. I don't want that to happen Love."
"I won't say no Love. That is the surest way to make you sign up. Follow your heart love. I know I can trust you. Love you to pieces."
"I love you to. See you tomorrow. Sleep well."
"Karl dumped it right back in your lap didn't he?"
"He did. I need to find Kurt."
Which would be easy as he was still by the front door greeting people now that they could get to the house unmolested.
"Kurt, can we talk?"
"Sure follow me."
We went into an office and he just turned and looked at me.
"Balls in your court Dennis."
"If you don't get enough guys interested within the alloted time period and you need one more to make it, I'd like to submit my name."
"I'll gladly take it to. What about your friends?"
"Truth to tell, one is totally straight, one is gay and one just plain doesn't know yet. I'm not going to put any pressure on any of them."
"Well I appreciate the honesty. Give me you room assignment and your cell and I will let you know by 5 Monday. I heard you telling guys that you're engaged and that he would be here tomorrow. What are the chances that he will join us?"
"I'm thinking very slim as he was here last year and obviously didn't seek you guys out though he did warn me not to accept any invites up stairs,as that only lead to one thing."
"Oh so he did stop by then,or so it would seem."
"Apparently. I was in a coma this time last year so I really don't know."
At that Kurts head came up.
"So you're - that - Dennis. I remember Karl from last year. He showed up alright and was the biggest downer all evening. All he could talk about was you and your accident and all. Well,I'm glad to see you finally came out of it. How long ago?"
"Just before Christmas and I had amnesia, still do for that matter."
"Well he was invited upstairs a number of times as memory serves,if only to help him take his mind off of things. Far as I know he didn't accept."
"That doesn't surprise me in the least. I don't know if he will join so that we can have a place to be together without a problem, but I'll ask him when he gets here tomorrow."
"I SAID NO!"
