We all hit the showers and I was on my way back to the apartment for a rather late supper.
"So, how'd the practice go?"
"Everybody looks to be in good shape to me. Pretty sure all of the remaining team kept at it all summer. Wouldn't surprise me if Eddie and Steve had been going over to Edgeton during the week."
"That would explain why you never saw them over there. What about the other new members?"
"They seem to be in pretty good shape as well, but they are still going to be the alternates for now."
"Same deal as last year?"
"Yeah, at least that's what Coach said.
"Who is up first?"
"Kilbride and it's here in 3 weeks."
"Not a lot of time to get ready."
"From what I saw today, we're more than ready lover."
"Let's hope so. Come eat while it's hot."
So we sat down to dinner and then I hit the books until it was time to crash.
Friday morning and we were at it again. The morning routine was taken care of and we hit the road back to campus for our classes. I gave Karl an extra long kiss this morning as I wouldn't see him until at least tomorrow afternoon. I hadn't bothered to pack anything for the trip home this afternoon.
English went along without a hitch today, as did public speaking as I didn't have to make one today. I went and grabbed my lunch and finally made it over to my Logic class.
Once the class was over I went and checked the car out and was soon on the road home. I wasn't in any hurry, which ended up being a good thing. Traffic, for whatever reason, was extremely heavy today and the going was slow. Instead of getting home at around 7 as I had planned, I didn't make it into the house until almost 10.
First thing I did was call Karl.
"I'm finally home lover."
"Damn, it took you long enough."
"Traffic was heavy and slow for some reason."
"You still looking to be back here tomorrow afternoon sometime?"
"That's the plan. If it changes for any reason, you'll be the second to know."
"Well, you had better crash. Tomorrow is going to be a big day."
"Ain't that the truth. Love you."
"Love you more."
I did a quick once around the house and then went to bed.
Bright and early the alarm went off and I grabbed my jogging stuff. Aaron and Roland weren't surprised to see me as they knew I was going to be here this weekend.
"This is getting damn real Den."
"Don't I know it. This doesn't work out in the long run, I could lose everything."
"Not going to happen Dennis."
"I sure as hell hope not Roland. Let's get this done."
We got our running done and Dana pembrose rolled by and slowed down.
"Anything wrong at school Dennis?"
"Nope, just home to transact a bit of business, and then I'm back at it."
"Then take care and I'll see you whenever."
I got home to shower and change. It was then over to Karl's house for my breakfast with the family.
"Well, are you ready for this young man?"
"I had better be Stan as it is going down."
"Want me along for support?"
"No, I've got the lawyers attending for anything that might come up."
I hung out here for a while and then I headed back over to my house. It was out to the garage and I grabbed the keys for "Baby". It probably would have been more appropriate to take the Toyota, but I wanted to drive the Triumph.
I found my way to the right building and made my way inside. Mr Jacobs and his team were there waiting for me.
"Good morning Mr Sawyer. Big day ahead of you."
"Good morning Mr Jacobs. Yes, it seems so. What are we waiting on?"
"Mr Becker apparently."
No sooner was his name mentioned than Mr Becker walked in.
"Sorry to hold things up. Traffic was a little heavier than anticipated this morning."
We were shortly shown into a conference room and we got down to business.
A little over an hour later, papers were signed, checks passed over and keys were given over.
Now the "fun" really started. I turned the keys over to Mr Jacobs.
"Jason Mouraue will be contacting you for those once all of the permits are in place. He doesn't expect it to be that long."
"Very well Mr Sawyer. Congratulations, and have a safe trip back to school."
"I certainly hope so."
It was back to the house, where I grabbed a quick lunch and then made damn sure I cleaned up after myself. Over to Karls to say a quick goodbye and then back to my place to lock up and hit the road.
One would have thought I learned my lesson yesterday. It was once again a slow drive, punctuated by several accidents which brought the speed down to an absolute crawl. With still at least two hours to drive, I pulled into a service plaza to fill both the car and myself up. I also called Karl.
"It's taking forever today. I'm pulled off at a service plaza at the moment. Don't wait for me to eat. I've still got almost 2 hours to go and that's at normal speed."
"Shit, you won't get back here until bedtime."
"If then. I know you'll be waiting up for me no matter how long it takes."
"Damn right, I will Den."
"I'm going to get back on the road lover. Hopefully, this all breaks up soon and I can make some time."
"Just take it easy. I'd rather you get here later than not at all."
"I hear you, lover. I'll be careful."
I got back on the road and took my time. Finally, at about 10:30, I pulled into the Castanzas driveway. I locked the car and made my way upstairs.
"Damn Denny, you must be exhausted."
"I'll sure as hell not have any trouble falling asleep tonight."
"What makes you think I'm going to let you sleep?"
"You're going to let me sleep because you love me and it's been a hell of a drive."
"Shall I text the guys we won't be jogging tomorrow?"
"If we crash now, I should be good."
In short order, we were in bed and quickly asleep.
Sunday morning and the routine kicked in. We were over to campus and met the guys in front of Cochran Hall. I was a bit surprised to see a couple of extra figures there. Steve and Eddie had decided to join our little group.
"Well, this is a bit of a surprise."
"We figure what's good for the goose....."
"Well then let's get this herd moving."
We all started our laps and picked up Gordon and Aiden along the way. Steve and Eddie were the first to drop out at their dorm and then Cam and Paul along with Karl and I, while Aiden and Gordon continued to their dorm.
It was back to the apartment for Karl and me. We got showered up and took the rest of the day to hit the books. Come 6 o'clock I heard the gates open and we were soon downstairs for our weekly supper with the Castanzas. They already knew about the deal with the "Y" and I just had to confirm the deal went through.
Next morning we were up and at it again.
Freshman English was gotten through without any problems and then it was on to Public Speaking. We got our next assignment. This next speech was one to inform. There was no time limit on this one. We listened to the last of the "Hello I'm..." speeches and were released a bit early. So it was over to the student union to grab my lunch and bench time.
Pete and Susan stopped by real quick.
"Everything go as planned this weekend?"
"Yeah, I own the building, the permits are being applied for and hopefully, the renovations can get underway in short order."
"You let me know when you start taking memberships Den."
"I will Pete."
"Later!"
He and Susan were off to be replaced by Aiden and Gordon.
"How you holding up Den?"
"I'm fine guys. How about you?"
"We're good Den, then again it's only the second week of class. When's the first meet and who?"
"Kilbride here in a little less than 3 weeks."
"We ready for them?"
"I think so. Look at the team. Josh, Greg, and I all medalled at the All-State. So did 2 of the new freshmen. From what I saw at practice last week, they did the same thing I did and kept it up all summer long. Hell, even the two other freshmen looked to be in good shape."
"So it looks like another good year?"
"It does to me."
"Outstanding! Ok, we have to get. See you in the morning."
I finished my lunch and then made my way towards my Logic class. When I approached the room, I saw something that didn't particularly make me happy.
