"Good afternoon Mr Becker. What news?"

"They've accepted your offer. Closing will be on the 24th."

I took a quick look at my calendar and found that it was a Friday. I didn't know yet just what my class schedule was going to be.

"Can I get that pushed to the 25th? I'll be back to school at that point and I have no idea what my schedule is going to be like."

"I'm sure I can get it taken care of Mr Sawyer. Just let me get back on the line with the other party and I'll let you know."

"Thank you, Mr Becker."

I hung up and turned to the others.

"My bid has been accepted on the building. I'll need to have the funds transferred by the 20th if possible."

"They should be on deposit within the week Mr Sawyer."

"Very good, if there is nothing else?"

Nobody said a thing.

"Very well. Safe travels all."

There was a lot of handshaking before everyone left. A departure that was noted by just about everyone on the trading floor.

I walked out onto the floor and all eyes turned to me. They all knew what I had been working on.

"Looks like I'm in the exercise business!"

Which got a round of applause.

"We still have work to do here folks."

Which got everyone back to work, but mostly with smiles on their faces. I ducked into Stan's office.

"I need to see your architect friend soonest."

"I thought you might. You have a 10 with him tomorrow morning. He'll be coming here."

"When did you set that up?"

"Right after I heard you got the loan. I was pretty damn sure you were going to get the building."

"Do we have any extra office space available?"

"Yeah, there's a set of offices on the third floor nobody is using."

"They just became the offices of Sawyer Enterprises, at least temporarily. Please see that they get set up with the usual office equipment."

I went back to my office and called Karl.

"Ok lover, I'm good to go. I'm going to need an accountant PDQ. Keep your eyes open for a general manager as well, but that one isn't as pressing."

"Outstanding lover. An accountant shouldn't be a problem. Where will they be reporting to?"

"Offices are going to be here, at least temporarily."

"Convenient for you at least."

"Hey, it's space that isn't being used, so why not? Closing on the building is hopefully going to be on the 25th. Think you'll be coming home with me for that?"

"That kinda depends on how the schedule winds up I'd say."

"Which we'll know by Friday, at least for classes."

"What else is there?"

"Could be a mandatory practice."

"If there is you're screwed."

"I'm sure I'll be able to work something out. I'll see you at home."

"Mr Becker line 3."

"Yes, Mr Becker?"

"Closing on the 25th at 10 am. I'll fax you the address."

"Very good and thank you, Mr Becker."

Things were starting to move into high gear. I reviewed what I wanted for the new business and did a more formal sketch of how I wanted things to give the architect a good idea. When the inspector had done his report, there was a set of blueprints included so I got those out as well.

The day kept on going and the closing bell finally sounded.

"Nothing outstanding as far as the markets were concerned Dennis."

"Yeah, I didn't see much myself, not that I've been paying that close attention today."

"Understandable with everything that has gone down today."

"Anything I should know about Mr Mouraue before I see him?"

"Other than that he likes to get right down to business, nope."

"Sounds like a short meeting."

"Oh, I doubt that. He'll want details of exactly what you want done."

"I can do that I'm sure. This is really going to happen Stan."

"I never had a doubt, Dennis."

Not long after the closing bell rang and people were on their way home, myself included.

When I got home, Karl was already there.

"This shit is getting real Den."

"Not getting lover, has gotten. I already have an appointment with the architect for tomorrow morning."

"And what do you think that is going to cost you?"

"I budgeted $2.5 for renovations. I'm hoping it comes in less than that."

"And how long do you think that will take?"

"No idea until I talk to the architect."

We soon sat down to supper, after which we hit the workout room for a while before crashing for the night.

Tuesday morning and we were up and at it again.

I told the guys as we were jogging all about what had happened.

"So when are you going to start accepting memberships Den?"

"Not until most of the construction is done, Roland."

Laps were soon done and the morning routine taken care of.

Then it was off to work. Stan and I got the day started for everyone and then I went to my office to get ready for my meeting.

Right at 10 Stan ushered a guy into my office.

"Jason Mouraue, my boss Dennis Sawyer. I'll leave you guys to it."

"Good morning Mr Mouraue."

"Good morning Mr Sawyer, and please call me Jason."

"Fine Jason, and I'm Dennis. Stan tells me you like to get right to business, so here it is. I am in the process of buying the old "Y" building. I want to turn it into an exercise and gymnastic training center. I have the blueprints of the building and a rough drawing of what I want done. I need that all formalized, permits filed and the work done."

"Sounds straightforward enough. What kind of budget are we talking about?"

"I'd like to see it brought in for under $2 million."

"Well, let me take a look at what you have and what I have to work with. I should have an estimate for you by this time next week."

"I shall be back at school by that time, so I'll leave you my email and cell numbers. I don't yet know what my class schedule is going to be but I will get back to you as soon as I can on anything you might send me."

"Well, that will make it only slightly more difficult to get things done. Will you be able to video conference?"

"I intend to have that capability by the time I get back to campus."

We took some time to go over what I had roughed out and made a couple of refinements.

"I can well work with this Dennis. I'll get back to you."

"Thank you, Jason. I'd like to get started on this as soon as the title passes. Closing is on the 25th."

"I should well have plans done by then, and I'm doubting that getting the permits will be much of a problem."

"I hope not. Any idea just how long things might take?"

"Not until I can go through this all in detail, but I'm thinking I should be able to get everything done by March, April at the latest."

"Which would give me time to get all of the machines situated, people hired and trained, and the place promoted in time to open in the summer when I'll be home from school."

"Sounds like a plan to me, Dennis."

"Let's hope we can hold to it. I'll be looking forward to your email Jason."

It was a little after noon at that point, so I went and found my sandwich and got back to my desk.

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful and the closing bell finally sounded.

"Nothing unusual today Dennis."

"I sure didn't see anything."

"So, you all set with Jason?"

"He's going to have estimates for me next week."

"So, tomorrow going to be your last day?"

"Yeah, and no going away parties if you please, and even if you don't"

"Got it."

Shortly thereafter I was on my way home. I did stop at the mall and picked up a camera that would attach to either the PC or the laptop.

It took me long enough that Karl got home before me today.

"So how was your meeting?"

"Everything went fine and I should have estimates next week."

"Outstanding."

"Best estimate at this time, we should be open shortly after we get out of school."

"That will work out well for the guys on the high school team who want to keep it up all summer."

"That was kinda the plan. Let's eat and then get things packed to go back to college."

Which is just what we did.

Wednesday we got our laps done and the day at work was pretty uneventful. When the closing bell sounded I stepped out of my office and said goodbye to them all.

When I got home we had supper and then loaded the cars for the trip to college.

Thursday it was out for our jogging with the guys and hugs all around. Karl and I got back to the house and the routine taken care of and over to his house to say goodbye to everybody.

We were soon on the road to our last year of college.
