Andy headed back to his office and Stan and I got to checking things over for the day.

Right at closing time Andy showed up at my door again.

"Only thing the rental agency could tell me was it was an Illinois license on a corporate card registered to Maripaeu Investigations."

"Run them as deep as you can Andy, but don't spend all night at it. Tomorrow will do."

"You go it, boss."

I was on my way home shortly after that, and Karl was right behind me. He read my body language or my face.

"What now?"

"Had a guy show up this afternoon insistent on talking to only me. Mrs Daniels didn't feel right about it and eventually, neither did I. Turns out the guy is somehow connected to an investigation company out of Illinois."

"Think it might have something to do with the Bogda Group?"

"I guess it's a possibility, but to what end?"

"Hell if I know lover. Maybe they were going to try and run a scam on you to see how alert you are?"

"You mean to see if I'm 'worthy' of their money?"

"Yeah, not completely unheard of."

"I suppose it's possible. Regardless I've got security digging into it to see what they can find."

"And if they find that these guys are connected to Bogda? Or better yet if they aren't?"

"If they are connected to Bogda, we consider it a test. If they aren't, well I guess that depends on who they are connected to."

"What are the possibilities there?"

"Far too great to speculate on. I mean it could be anything from a rival investment group to somebody trying to launder money. Regardless, forget it for tonight."

"Yeah, let's eat."

Which is exactly what we did. Once Mrs Ohanlon was on her way, Karl and I hit the pool for a bit.

We spent a little time in front of the TV and then crashed.

Friday morning and we were up and at it once again.

When I got to the office, Stan was there with his overnight report.

"Nothing unusual last night or this morning Dennis."

"Then business as usual I guess."

I settled into my office for the day and set myself up to monitor the markets.

Shortly after the bell, Andy was knocking on my door with a not to happy face.

"Lay it on me, Andy."

"Unsubstantiated rumor has it that Maripeau is 'connected'."

Which immediately had me wary.

"Any particular people mentioned?"

"No, but we're still digging."

"Stop. Right now."

"If you say so boss, but why?"

"If they are connected I don't want to be stirring that hornet's nest."

Was I concerned? Damn right I was. Andros was still out there somewhere. What if he had finally decided to look for a way to ruin me?

After Andy left I got on my computer and dashed off an email to Stimson.

Approached by Maripeau Investigations. Rumored to be connected. Any ties to A.T.?

I didn't expect an immediate reply as I'm sure Stimson had other things to tend to.

Shortly after lunch, my intercom buzzed.

"Oliver Adams line 3."

"Good afternoon Mr Adams, what can I do for you today."

"It's more what I can do for you, Mr Sawyer. Congratulations, your loan has been approved, contingent upon your getting the building. Our closing team can be there Monday morning if that works for you?"

"I'm sure I can make that work Mr Adams, and thank you."

"Very good. They should be there for 10 am."

"I'm looking forward to it."

I hung up and stepped into Stan's office.

"I got the loan."

"Hot damn!"

"I need to get on the phone."

The first call was to the Realtor to submit my bid for $3 million.

The second was to Mr Jacobs to have him and a team of lawyers here to look over the contracts before I signed them. I also needed him to set up a company for the new endeavor.

"Neither will be a problem, Mr Sawyer. We'll have the papers with us on Monday."

Thirdly I called Karl.

"I got the loan!"

"Out frigging standing! Where are we going to celebrate?"

"How about the Steakhouse at the Rossmire?"

"I'll meet you there at 5 lover."

Lastly, I called Mrs Ohanlon and told her not to bother making supper tonight.

At some point, my intercom buzzed again.

"Mr Becker line 1."

This was the realtor so I was hoping for good news.

"What news Mr Becker?"

"They rejected your offer I'm sorry to say."

"Do they have another offer on the table?"

"They do at $3.2 million."

"Go to $3.3 million."

"Very good sir."

The original asking had been $3.5 million and I would go that high if I needed to but not a penny more.

The afternoon wore on until the closing bell sounded.

"I didn't see anything to be concerned about today boss."

"Neither did I Stan. Rest up this weekend. Monday looks like it will be a hell of a day."

"Especially if you hear from the realtor over the weekend."

"Always a possibility I'm sure. I'm outta here. I'm meeting Karl for supper."

I got on the road to the Rossmire, a 20-minute drive at the best of times seeing as it was on the other side of town. With Friday traffic it took me more than 30. It was a little after 5 when I did get there.

Karl was waiting for me at the head waiter's desk.

"Sorry to keep you waiting lover."

"Hey, I expected you to take even longer than this on a Friday."

We were quickly seated and for a change had a celebratory drink before we ordered. Our dinner here tonight was every bit as good as what we got at Riskins.

It was well after dark by the time we got home and after checking the doors and windows we just headed for the bedroom.

As you might think we didn't go right to sleep. We pleasured each other to near exhaustion before we fell asleep.

Still, Saturday morning and we were up and out for jogging with the guys. Aaron and Roland both knew something was going on just by my body language or it could have been the big grin plastered across my face.

"Ok Den, what gives?"

"I got the loan for the gymnastics center."

"Out fucking standing! And what about the building?"

"The offer is in and I'm waiting to hear Aaron."

"When do you think you will?"

"I'm hoping today but more likely sometime Monday, hopefully before the Bogda Group legal team leaves."

"Looks like things are going to be moving pretty fast."

"Yeah I'd hoped to have things all settled before we headed back to school, but I don't think that's going to happen."

"I'd be damn surprised if you could close that fast on the building. You're heading back on Thursday, right?"

"Or very early Friday."

We soon had our laps done and were back home. Showered and clothed, we went over to Karl's house for breakfast with the family.

"So, what are you boys going to be up to today?"

"I don't know about Karl, but I'll be hanging waiting to hear from the realtor."

"I'm going nowhere without you Den."

"So, lazing around the pool then."

"Yeah, pretty much I would think Stan."

"Then I know for sure where Bobbie will be and Connie too most likely."

"Hey everybody is welcome Stan, you know that."

"Yes I do Dennis and we may all well take advantage of it this afternoon."

So as you might suspect, the afternoon turned into somewhat of a pool party. After dinner was had the family trooped back through the gate to their own house.

Karl and I cleaned things up and once again crashed fairly early.

Sunday went pretty much the same.

Monday and we got our jogging done and I was at the office even earlier than usual.

"I haven't seen anything to get excited about yet Dennis."

"Just as well, I think I'm too excited to pay attention anyway. I expect Mr Jacobs and his team will be here about 9 and the Bogda team is due at 10."

"You have every right to be excited Dennis. This is a big deal. $8 million isn't a drop in the bucket."

"Well let's have plenty of coffee ready today. I've no idea how long this is going to take."

"Go sit down and take a few deep breaths, Dennis. You need to relax."

Right at 9 Mr Jacobs showed up and we got the papers forming the new company taken care of.

Just before 10, the Bogda team showed up. I got the ball rolling with them and my lawyers and the just stood back and let them have at. By a little after 1 everything was settled and contracts were signed. Even before the ink dried the intercom buzzed.

"Mr Becker line 2."
