Well at that point I figured I was screwed as far as the proposal was concerned.
"I told you he was sharp Oliver."
"You did indeed, but I really didn't expect anything less from Martin's son."
I knew from before when I had done my research that Mr Adams at least had known my adoptive dad. There was no telling if any of the others did or not.
"I recognized you from the plane when I arrived this morning Mr Sawyer, you were rather engrossed reviewing your presentation. So I volunteered to be the holdout this morning so you could go through your interview without being overly intimidated."
"Yes, I'm sure having you here would have put quite a different spin on the proceedings. As a matter of curiosity, that packet you were working on yesterday?"
"Is under a much closer review. Regardless, Mr Sawyer, you made an outstanding presentation. We have several more to hear today and we shall inform you of our decision as soon as we make it. The phone number you provided is good anywhere?"
"No sir. That is the office number, they will however be able to reach me, unless you want my personal cell?"
"We would please. If the loan is made we will be contacting you throughout the whole process of getting your doors open."
I gave them my cell number and it was a shake of all of the hands and I was back out in the reception area. Pete was still the only one sitting there.
"Well?"
"They'll let me know. Let's get back to the hotel."
"That's it? They'll let you know. There's got to be more than that Den."
"They liked the presentation and were a bit impressed that I had all of the information they asked for right at hand. I think I might have been a bit better prepared than some other first-time presenters."
"So did they give you any type of a time frame?"
"Nope, they said they had several more proposals to hear today, but I'm betting it will be before the end of next week."
When the elevator got to us a group of men exited and headed for the main offices. Looked like the next people were on deck.
Pete and I finally got back to the first floor and outside to grab a taxi and then got ourselves back to the hotel.
"So what are we doing for the rest of the day?"
"I was thinking of hitting the pool after lunch, maybe the exercise center."
"Hey, we're here, let's go see something."
"I promised Karl I'd stay right at the hotel so there was little chance of us getting into trouble. Matter of fact I should call him."
Which was just what I did once we were back in our room.
"Over and done with lover."
"And how did it go?"
"I think it went great, but they haven't committed yet. They said they had several more proposals to hear today."
"You see any of those folks?"
"Just one group and they looked damn nervous to me."
"So no timeframe was given?"
"Nope, but I'm betting before the end of next week."
"Going to make for a long week Den."
"Probably. Pete wants to go exploring, but I told him I promised you that I'd stay in the hotel."
"Don't suppose that made him happy."
"He'll get over it I'm sure. We're off to get some lunch and then maybe hit the pool or something. See you tomorrow afternoon."
"Have a safe trip."
It was down to the coffee shop instead of the main restaurant and then back to the room. I read for a little bit to let lunch settle and then headed for the pool.
I swam for a bit and then noticed an older lady who was trying to attract my attention. She swam closer to me.
"I do admire a fit young man such as yourself."
Just what I needed to make my day, a "cougar" on the prowl.
"I'm flattered ma'am but I'm a married man."
"Oh, and married men don't cheat?"
"I'm sure there are some that do, but beyond that, I'm gay."
"Such a waste."
At which point she swam away.
I heard a decidedly male voice behind me.
"I heard what you told that woman. Is there any chance for me then?"
I turned to look at the guy. He was a few years older than me and not that bad-looking.
"The odds are better, but not great. Sorry, I meant it when I said I was married."
"I could certainly make it worth your time."
"I doubt that very much sir."
I swam away from the guy. A bit later I saw him talking to one of the employees. While I was drying out, a suit came over to me.
"Excuse me ....sir. Are you a guest of this establishment?"
"I am."
"Indeed, your name and room number please?"
I gave him both and he entered them on some type of tablet.
"Sir, I'm afraid that I'm going to have to ask you to leave the premises."
"On what grounds?"
"One of the other guests has charged that you tried to solicit him."
"And this guest is someone who is respected I take it?"
"He has been a guest of ours several times."
"Well, I was going to let it slide, but seeing as whomever it appears to want to be vindictive, it was I who was solicited, not once but twice."
"I beg your pardon?"
"An older woman spoke to me first. She wanted to get better acquainted. I told her I was flattered but I was married and gay. A gentleman heard that particular exchange and asked me if he had a chance. I told him no and swam away from him. If he wants to pursue the matter I shall be happy to do so. Otherwise, I intend to stay the evening as planned and leave in the morning. If that isn't acceptable to you, I suggest you either get your owner or a policeman as you see fit."
The guy turned on his heel and left. I made it back to my room without any further difficulty.
"Heads up Pete, we may be having company."
I quickly got some clothes on.
"What did you do now?"
"I was propositioned, twice and I told them both no. One person didn't like that and accused me of making the proposition and called management. I told management that I was the one who was propositioned and to either shut up or call the police and let them sort it out."
"Hell, I better make sure everything is packed."
"We're not going anywhere until it's time for us to head to the airport, Pete so relax."
"What if they do call the police to have us removed?"
"I'll let the lawyers have a field day with them. They accepted my reservations and credit card when we checked in. We have a contract and I won't hesitate to sue them for breach if they force us out, and I'll make it very public. Something that they are likely considering right now."
Time passed and it was soon time for supper.
"Do we go down to the restaurant or have room service Den?"
"I don't intend to be held hostage within this room. We shall be dining in the main restaurant. If they decide to get cute, well Mr Jacobs is on speed dial, and I'm sure the local media would likely have a field day."
"You actually think they'd try something stupid like locking us out?"
"Not outside the realm of possibility."
I called down to make sure we could be seated immediately. Pete and I made our way down to the main restaurant. I had also checked to see if they had any type of a dress code and they didn't, which was nice seeing as Pete and I were dressed casually once again.
Pete and I were seated without a problem and had ourselves a rather good meal.
"Think we're safe for the night?"
"We'll find out in a few minutes."
We got back to our floor and made our way to our room. I stuck the key card into the slot. I was prepared to head down to the desk for a new key and some kind of song and dance from the management, but the key worked and Pete and I walked into our room.
Everything was just exactly as we had left.
"Guess somebody chose not to push it."
"For which I am very glad. So what time are we out of here in the morning?"
"Our plane leaves at about 10:45, so we need to be at the airport by 9. I timed it when we came in and it was a 25 minute drive so, be on the safe side and leave here no later than 8. So up at 6, grab some breakfast in the coffee shop, and then hit the road. I'd rather be early and sit at the airport than take the time hanging around here and to cover any unexpected delays."
I called down to the desk and left a 6 am wakeup call. Pete and I spent the rest of the night watching TV and I sacked out right after exchanging texts with Karl.
Ok guys it's that time of year again. I'm headed north for a week and I know for sure there won't be any net service, so no chapter next week. Hope to be back in time for the week after.
