I walked into my office and closed the door.

"It was just sitting here on the desk Dennis and I started thumbing through it when I got put on hold. Just a natural move for me. I hate to see time wasted."

"I don't mind you seeing it Daniel. Do you think it has a chance of getting financed?"

"I certainly think it has merit. Why didn't you come to me though?"

"After my telling Drake and Doug that I didn't have any interest in going after anything you had built up for them? That would have been a bit awkward."

"Yes, I suppose it would. Who have you sent this out to?"

"Several of the large investment banks and investment groups."

"And whom do you think it is most likely to be picked up by?"

"Mr Bellows seems to think our best bet is the Bogda Group."

"Hmmmmm a proposal that has a fair chance of succeeding, but with assets that should be easily disposed of if you default. Yes, it does sound like their kind of deal."

"Did you see anything that might be changed to give it a better chance of getting financed?"

"I only skimmed it Dennis, but let me take a copy and I'll pay it some serious attention later on tonight."

"Feel free. It is the first proposal I've ever written myself, though I admit I remember looking over a few shoulders over the years."

"Oh, I have no doubt of that. Well, I'm running a bit late now. I'll look this over this evening and if I spot anything I'll drop you an email."

"Do you need a taxi?"

"No, I had the limo follow us here."

"Then let me walk you out."

I got Daniel into his limo and then made my way back inside for the rest of the day.

"I noticed Daniel had a copy of your proposal when he left."

"He's going to look it over and let me know if I can improve it anywhere, but he does like what he saw so far."

"Would he finance it?"

"If I asked, I'm thinking so, but that isn't going to happen."

"Even as a last resort?"

"Stan, if I can't sell this without going to Daniel, then I probably shouldn't even be thinking about it. It's a solid proposal and we both know the biggest drawback to it is my age. How many folks are willing to invest several million with a 20-year-old? Especially one without any kind of track record?"

"I get it Dennis, but you're finding younger and younger entrepreneurs every year. I'm betting somebody will back you."

"Yeah, I just hope it happens before somebody else scarfs up the building."

"Have you even looked at it yet?"

"Not I haven't. Something to do later on this week I think. Anything happen this morning I should be aware of?"

"Nope. Been a pretty usual day so far."

"Let's hope it stays that way."

I went into my office and started looking over any new offerings to see if there was anything really worth investing in. After about an hour of that, I decided to leave things just as they were.

Eventually, the closing bell sounded and folks started shutting down for the day.

"Ok Stan, I'm heading home. I'll see you on Thursday."

"Good luck with the exam, and remember it's Commissioner Harris and not Tank, and take it easy on the road."

"I'll be on my best behavior on all counts Stan."

At that point, I headed home and got there before Karl tonight.

I had about an hour before supper was going to be ready, so I hit the pool. Karl was running late for some reason today and by the time he got there, I had to get dried off for supper.

"What kept you today?"

"Interviews just ran long today. Lots of folks looking for jobs right now."

"All of the grads realizing the summer is winding down fast and they need to get a job."

"Probably."

At that point, we went to eat. Afterward, it was back to the pool for us both for a while and then into the TV for a bit before we crashed out.

Tuesday morning and it was up and out with the guys for the jogging.

We were heading back to the houses.

"Well see you on Thursday Den. Good luck with the test."

"Thanks, Aaron. I at least have a good idea of what to expect this time."

"Yeah, good luck Dennis! Be careful on the road."

"Thanks, I will Roland."

Karl and I got into the house and hit the shower.

"I'm going to miss you tonight lover."

"I'm going to miss you too Karl, but it's got to be done."

"Yeah, I know."

We got dressed and out to breakfast. Soon Karl was out the back door and off to work. I went in and packed an overnight bag and threw it into the back of "baby".

It was a 3-hour drive to where I had to take the test but I wasn't in any hurry to get there.

"I should be home in time for dinner tomorrow night Mrs Ohanlon. If that changes I'll call."

"You be takin' it easy on the road."

"I fully intend to."

I was out the door and shortly on the highway. Thankfully it was an uneventful drive. I found my hotel and checked in and then made sure I was able to find the office for the next morning.

I had several hours to kill so I decided to hit the hotel swimming pool. There were plenty of other folks around. I did notice one guy who kept looking at me, and I have to admit, he was a pretty good-looking guy.

He finally came over to me.

"Hi, you look very familiar to me."

"Well, if you're into gymnastics at all you might recognize me from the All-State."

"Of course! Dennis Sawyer, and as memory serves, you like men. So do I."

"I'm flattered, but I'm happily married."

"As if married folk don't go 'off the reservation'."

"This married person doesn't."

I turned around and walked back to my room. I showered and changed and then headed for the restaurant. I was going to have to wait for a table, so I sat down in the foyer, as I didn't want to be in the lounge.

The guy from the pool sat down across from me. I decided to walk around the shops while I waited for my table. The guy decided to follow me.

"I'm a rather single-minded person Mr Sawyer."

"Then it seems we are at an impasse, sir. If you don't stop following me, I shall have to ask the management to intervene."

"You are of course free to do so, but I happen to own the hotel."

"I shall have to keep that in mind if I ever come this way again."

The guy took my arm in a firm grip.

"Why don't you just bow to the inevitable and join me?"

"Sir, you have exactly 10 seconds to remove your hand before I drop you like a sack of potatoes. I would dislike embarrassing you in front of all of your employees, but I won't hesitate to do so."

I had said that loud enough so that those nearby certainly heard me. The guy looked around and let go of my arm and walked away.

Several of the employees had been within earshot and I could see them whispering amongst themselves. It was at that point that I was called to my table.

I went to my table and I half expected for word to have come down from the guy that I get lousy service. I was a bit surprised when I got excellent service. I had a feeling that the staff was rather pleased that somebody had finally put the boss in his place.

After supper, I went back to my room and called Karl.

"So you all tucked in for the night lover?"

"Yeah, but it's been a heck of a day."

I then went on and explained to him how the day had gone.

"I doubt we'll ever stay at that place again Den."

"You can count on that. You try and have a good night and I'll see you tomorrow unless something comes up."

"Sleep well Den and good luck tomorrow."

I called it an early night and crashed out.

The next morning, I didn't even think about going jogging. It was a strange city after all. I got dressed and went down and had breakfast and eventually made my way over to Commissioner Harris's office.

"Well Mister Sawyer, good to see you are punctual. Let's get this show on the road."

It was easy to see how this guy had gotten the nickname "Tank". He was built like one.

I was shown into another room where a couple of men were waiting. I was once again issued a test and went right to work. It was a little after 12 when I finished the exam and turned it in. I was shown back to the Commissioners office.

"Well, why don't we get some lunch, Mr Sawyer?"

"Of course Commissioner Harris."

We left the building and went across the street to a small place and were shown right to a table.

"So Mr Sawyer, how do you see the market running for the rest of the year?"

"I think the market will stay strong as long as there are no major upheavals, natural or man-made."

"A safe statement to be sure."

The conversation went on like this throughout our meal.

"Well, I expect that you'd like to get on the road home Mr Sawyer, but would you please come back to my office with me for a moment?"
