I went to see who it was, and when I opened the door it was Daniel Trenton.
"Daniel! What the hell are you doing here?"
"Rustic Acres is reopening tomorrow. I thought you and your caroling group might like to be on hand to welcome the former residents back."
"Damn, well come on in. I can't speak for the others, but I'll be there."
"You can count me in too, and I'm pretty sure that my mom and dad will make the effort."
"Which just leaves Aaron, and I can take care of that right now."
I got on my phone and called Aaron and explained the situation to him.
"Count me in Den."
Karl had called his parents as well.
"My folks are in and they'll bring Bobbie and Connie as well."
"Outstanding!"
"What are your plans for the rest of the day Daniel?"
"Oh, I have to get out there and check a few things and make sure everything is set up the way I want it."
"I assume you're staying at the Rossmire again? Just you or did you bring the family?"
"Just me this trip. The boys have a competition coming up and wanted to stay home and get ready for that. I'll be taking care of a few other things while I'm in the area."
The temptation was there to ask about those other things, but I didn't.
"How about dinner tonight? I'll make reservations for us at the steak house if you aren't already committed?"
"Unfortunately, just about every minute is spoken for this trip. I will have a bit of time after the ceremonies tomorrow. I'd like to see your operation if possible?"
"Certainly, we can head over right after the ceremonies are complete."
"Excellent, then I'll see you tomorrow. You boys take care of yourselves."
It was a quick handshake and Daniel was out the door.
"Well, that was unexpected."
"It sure as hell was, but he must have known he would be here for a while at least. I wonder why he waited to spring this on us last minute Den?"
"You think he has some ulterior motive?"
"It's that he just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to leave things to the last minute."
"Usually I'm the one who is suspicious, but I'm not feeling it this time Karl."
"Yet last year you were the one worried about a 'long con'. I'm thinking this just might be it."
"So I keep my eyes open. Not like I'm going to commit to anything before I check it out. Besides if there was something going on with his orginization, there would have been some indication on the street. Granted I don't hear a lot, but Stan sure as hell does."
"I know all that Den, but it might just look too good,or be one of those socalled 'blue sky' projects that has advanced further than anybody is paying attention to."
"If it looked to good that would really make me suspicious. Let's just take it at face value for now."
"Fine, which still leaves us with the question of what are we going to do for the rest of the day?"
"I'm all for just hanging out at the pool."
Which is just what we did for most of the day. Needless to say, we were shortly joined by Bobbie.
We had dinner over at Karl's and then just planted ourselves in front of the TV until we crashed out.
Monday morning and it was the usual routine. We got our laps run and headed for our respective houses.
"Be sure and dress nice Aaron."
"I will Den."
Karl and I got back to the house, had a quick breakfast, and got cleaned up and dressed. Karl was going to ride to the event with me but go home with his parents.
Before we left the house, I called and left a message for Stan that I was going to be late getting in today and that I'd likely have a guest with me when I did show up.
Karl and I left the house and ended up rolling into Rustic Acres with about 10 minutes to spare. Karl's family along with Aaron were right behind us.
Daniel was right there to meet us.
"Good to see you all again, but I don't believe I've met this young man Dennis."
"Daniel Trenton, meet Aaron Richards, one of my oldest friends."
"A pleasure young man. Aaron Richards.....why do I find the name familiar?"
"Thank you, sir. My name might be familiar to you if you're heavily into or invested in computer gaming."
"I'm not but my sons are. One of their favorites is Halomarian Quest. One of yours?"
"It was indeed. Dennis even had a bit of a hand in that one. He helped me work out a couple of things."
"How interesting. Well, we had better take our seats as things are about to get started."
The director of the facility was first to speak, followed by the mayor, and Daniel.
It was the usual glad to be open, and welcome to our community type of thing from the facility director and Mayor.
Daniels speech was short and of the thank you for welcoming us into your community type of thing.
When Daniel was done speaking, a bus rolled into the driveway and up to the front doors. Very familiar faces started to make their way from the bus. When we were noticed amongst the crowd we were soon surrounded by the clients of the facility.
"Oh how much you two have grown," was heard several times, and yes cheeks were pinched.
About 11 things started to break up. Daniel sent his entourage back to the hotel and he rode with me to the office. We toured the building and were soon enough back on the main floor when Daniel's phone rang. He looked at the called ID.
"I need to take this in private."
"Use my office."
I ushered him in and then closed the door on my way out.
Stan came out of his office at that point.
"What does he think of the place?"
"He hasn't really said but he did smile a lot as we were going through."
Daniel was in my office for some time and I was beginning to wonder what was going on.
When the door opened, Daniel was standing there with a copy of my proposal in hand.
"Let's talk."
Sorry for the short chapter, but time got away from me trying to resolve all of the lost wallet issues.
