Before I headed for the pool, I did have a word if a few peoples ear about no pranking and asked them to spead the word as well. I was then off to do my laps and then I hit the whirlpool. There wasn't anybody there for a change.
Once I got showered up I called Karl and then headed back to the apartment.
"Hey lover, good day?"
"Yeah, at least coach was happy with my work. Which reminds me, I know tomorrow is April Fools day, but can we just not?"
"Fine by me, but you know that was more Aarons thing than mine."
"Yeah I know but I'm really not in the mood for any of that this year. Coach is really concerned that if there are any of the haters still on campus that I just might be a target and it would be damn easy to make it look like a prank gone wrong."
"I suppose I can understand that. Want to cancel jogging just to be on the safe side?"
"Nah. It's really the only thing we have to do tomorrow anyway."
"Ok lover. Still a couple of hours till supper."
"Yeah, I want to look for something."
"What? I might know where it is."
"I was thinking earlier that it would be damn easy for any of those lookiloos that have been around to plant a camera. I was going to look for the bug detector Stimson gave me last year."
"Really Den? You honestly think any of the scouts would go to those lengths?"
"Hey, if I thought of it....."
"Yeah I suppose."
It didn't take me long to find it and I slipped into my backpack for next time. Then I went and hit the books for a bit. Eventually supper was ready and Karl and I ate and then just kicked back for the night and crashed out early.
Sunday morning and we were up and out for our jogging and my head was on a swivel once we got to campus.
"What's got you going today Den?"
"It's April Fools day Gordon. I'm just keeping an eye out for any wiseguys."
"Do people still do that shit?"
"Cam, if I were at home, I could just about put money on it and be sure of winning with Aaron around. Besides if any of the haters are still around, it would just be too damn easy for things to go wrong. Let's face it, at this point its no secret about any of us anymore."
"Yeah I suppose that's true."
We made our laps without incident and then Karl and I were back to the apartment and hit the books for a bit. Eventually it was time to go downstairs for supper with Cam, Paul and his parents. It was a fairly quiet dinner tonight and we did tell the Castanzas that we were headed out the following weekend for springbreak.
"I've heard some pretty wild things happen in Vegas so you boys be damn careful."
"We intended to be Mr Castanza."
"Paul is coming home with me for the week. I'll make a horseman out of him in that amount of time."
"Going to start him out on Primrose?"
"More than likely."
"Hell, you'll have him riding 'clean up' by the end of the week."
"Clean up?"
"Tail rider on the trail rides so everybody keeps up."
Not long after supper was done and the table had been cleared. Karl and I were back upstairs.
I went and did a little book work, but Karl went to the computer and I could see him making notes.
"What are you up to?"
"Hey you told me to check out things and see what shows or whatever I might want to do, so I am. When I'm done with the possibles, well then we'll talk about it."
"Think you'll be done with that tonight?"
"Maybe."
I went back to my books but even when I was done Karl was still at it going through things. Guess Vegas had a lot more to offer than I thought.
10:30 and Karl was still at it.
"Ok lover let's call it a night. You can finish that tomorrow."
"I hope to hell I can. There's just too damn much to do even though we can't go clubbing or gambling."
"We'll narrow it down and still take a good bit of time to just relax. For now, let's call it a night."
We headed in to bed shortly after and before we knew it the alarm was going off on another Monday morning. So we were up and out and over to campus and had out laps with the guys. Back to the apartment and got ourselves organized for the day.
After classes, instead of heading home, I went to the rec center. Not many of the guys tended to work out on Mondays. I wanted to sweep the room without rousing to much awareness. No such luck.
Josh and Greg showed up when I was about halfway through the room.
"What the hell Den?"
Call me paranoid or whatever, but I got it in my head that one of the lookiloos that we have been hanging around here lately could have planted a camera. I'm just checking."
"You have got to be out of your mind."
At which point the bug detector flashed red.
"Does that mean what I think it means Den?"
"It sure does Josh."
I took out a magic marker that I had and marked the spot. Just because I had found this bug didn't mean there weren't others around.
I continued my way around the room and found 3 other bugs. Greg and Josh just stood there kind of bug eyed.
I went to the office and found Coach Warren and told him what I had found.
"You have got to be kidding me Dennis, and just why the hell do you have a bug detector in...nevermind. Left over from last year?"
"Yes it is. Now the question to answer is do we pull them or just fold up the bleachers and blind them?"
"I don't suppose there is anyway to find out just who put them there?"
"Well, I'm sure there is a way, but it would probably be expensive and would likely mean calling in some help and would attract attention we really don't need."
"I'll get the bleachers folded up. That will raise the least suspicion, at least with the team. The room is going to be locked down when not being used and all practices formal or otherwise are going to be closed."
"Stupid as this amy sound coach, you might want to keep an eye open for any unscheduled maintainance as well."
"I'm glad you're on our side Dennis. You going to work out today?"
"No sir. I just was trying to do this all under the radar. I don't need to be makng the rest of the team paranoid. Do we mention this to the governing body?"
"No I don't think there is a damn thing they can do about it other than publicy speaking out against it."
"Then I guess I'm done for the day coach. I'll see you at practice tomorrow."
I did stop on the way out and asked Josh and Greg not to say anything to the rest of the guys.
"Who would believes us if we did Den?"
I got home before Karl so I got something going for supper. When Karl came in he came over and gave me a kiss and then went straight to his computer.
"What the hell Karl?"
"I still need to finish going through all of the stuff we can do in Vegas if we're going to talk about it and get anything set up ahead of time. I mean all of the major casinos have a nightime show and a good many of them have afternoon shows as well. Most of the hotels have some kind of 'trademark' to be seen. That alone could take us at least a day, and some of them are meant to be seen at night."
"Ok lover you get to it then. Why do I see us coming back more exhausted than ever?"
"Cause just like last year, there's a shitload we can do and not all that much time to do it."
Not long after that I had supper ready.
"Come and get it Karl. You almost done with that?"
"Yeah just about. We can start going over it later. I've already put a star beside the things I'd really like to do. More than anything I think it's going to be a matter of scheduling."
"Probably a good thing we got the car then instead of relying on public transportation."
"Damn right Den."
We sat down to eat and when everything was cleaned up I started to look over what karl had found. He easily had 15 pages of handwritten notes.
"Damnation Karl, we could be busy for a month with all of this!"
"That's why I've made note of the things I really want to do."
I decided to read through to the end and then go back and see what things Karl wanted to see or do and what I wanted had in common.
By the time I had finished reading through the first time it was damn near time to call it a night.
"I've given it all a quick look at Karl and I'm sure there are things there that we both would like to do. I'll go over it again in the morning before the practicum and then we can hash it out after supper."
"Sounds like a plan to me."
We crashed out shortly after that and the alarm came for earlier than I had wanted it to today. So we were up and out for a bright Tuesday morning. We got our laps in with the guys and then it was back to the apartment and Karl was soon off to class.
I went and got the pages Karl and written and started going through them in a bit more detail. I could well see a whole day just going to the Adventuredome at Circus Circus and then heading downtown for the Strat and its rides, ad then the evening doing the Fremont Street Experience.
I sat down at my computer and set up a spreadsheet. The all day Grand Canyon tour was already booked for Monday. I figured by the time we got there on Saturday and got checked in we'd just want to crash. So I started looking at things that were available for Sunday.
Before I knew it I had to head into the practicum.
