Sunday morning and Karl and I were up and headed for our laps with the guys. There were a few reporters still hoping to get a statement when we left the house. We left them hoping.
We got to campus and the guys were waiting on us.
"Paul, Cam, if there are still reporters hanging around when you get over for dinner, just roll on through them and please don't make any comments."
"Yeah we planned on it Den. No need in stirring things up right?"
"Precisely. Let's get this done."
So it was our 5 laps of the quad and Karl and I headed home. Showered and fed we settled down to school work for the morning. After lunch we just laid back until supper time.
Cam and Paul made it over and thankfully there weren't any reporters for them to contend with.
Supper was a little more spirited this Sunday now that everybody was present. Paul had to tell his parents all about being cooped up, and that he had also seen guys being escorted off campus the other day.
"Still no further word on that fire and explosion?"
"Not that I've heard dad, then again I don't hear everything. I doubt anybody does."
"Well I sure haven't heard anything about it and I've been trying to listen."
"Yes I'm sure you have Dennis. We may never really know what was going on there."
Dinner was soon enough finished and the table cleared. Karl and I headed upstairs and Paul and Cam headed back to campus before it got dark.
Monday morning dawned cloudy, but at least there weren't any reporters for us to navigate through today. So it was in for our jogging with the guys and then home again to get ready for the day.
Classes went pretty much as expected and there were no new rumors about any of the guys who had moved off campus, or anything else for that matter, at least none that I heard.
So it was back to the apartment and getting something going for supper. Karl showed up when expected.
"You hear anything today Karl?"
"Not until I was about ready to leave lover. Seems those two who were in the explosion spilled their guts which is what led to the others being expelled. The bomb was just a couple of M80s that burned faster than they thought they would but it was enough to start a fire in the car. They were just going to blow the mailbox at the frat."
"Well at least that's all cleared up. I hope to hell that is the end of things, but I'm not counting on it."
"I heard that, but we can hope."
Supper was soon ready and we ate. After things got cleaned up we hit the books for a while and then relaxed in front of the tube before calling it a night.
Tuesday we were again up and out for our jogging with the guys and it was uneventful. Back to the apartment and cleaned up and fed Karl was off to his classes and I once again did a review of my imaginary portfolio. Everything looked to be going along as expected so I again made no changes.
I eventually went down and checked the car and then headed in for the one class. The usual 15 minutes of discussion and the reviews followed.
"Still taking the long view I see Mr Sawyer."
"I am sir and it seems to be standing me in good stead."
"It does that Mr Sawyer. Have a good day."
I made my way over to the student union and grabbed a sandwich and found my regular bench. For a change nobody took the time to stop today. I guess everybody wanted to get stuff done before heading home next week for Thanksgiving.
I headed over to the rec center and got changed up and headed into the apparatus room. There wasn't anyone about to spot me this early in the day so I headed into the weight room for a bit.
A few reps of each station on the weight machine and then I headed back into the apparatus room. Josh and Greg were there by this time.
They were taking turns spotting each other so I stood by until somebody else showed up. When someone did we took turns spotting each other as well. This was an informal workout so none of the triples were thrown today except the high bar which eveyone knew I had anyway.
Soon enough there were more guys around as they finished classes for the day. I finished up for the day and went and got my laps and then the whirlpool before showering up and heading home.
Karl was already there and had supper on the stove for us.
"Hearing anything interesting today Den?"
"Nope not a word, you?"
"Rumor is that they are going to remove the curfew when we get back from Thanksgiving."
"I'm sure people will be happy about that. We taking both cars home next week or just one?"
"Well Pete has his own so we can do it with one, question is which one?"
"Makes no never mind to me Karl. I do know I'm driving 'baby' when I get home."
"Like there was ever a doubt?"
We settled down to eat and then got things cleaned up. It was a little school work and then we settled in for the night.
Wednesday rolled in bright and clear and it was off to our jogging with the guys and then back to clean up and get ready for classes. The classes all seemed to run short today, at least for me. So I had extra time between Taxes and Risk/Rewards. I still made my way over to the student union for a quick lunch.
Pete and Susan stopped by and they each had plans to head out Tuesday after class, as did Gordon and Aiden. Karl and I had decided to wait until next Wednesday morning to head home. Paul obviously didn't have to worry about getting home. Cam on the other hand was undecided what he was going to do even at this late date.
"Dad can certainly take the time to come get me, but I want to be with Paul as well. I've got to decide pretty quick so dad can make arrangements."
"Push comes to shove Cam Karl and I have the room to take you home."
"Appreciate it Den. I'll let you know as soon as I decide."
"Ok, we won't be leaving until Wednesday morning. Doing the drive after classes is a bit much for me. I can do it if I have to but I'd rather not."
"Yeah I heard that Den. Well we have to get it in gear."
"Later."
It was finally time for me to head over to Risk/Rewards and for whatever reason today this one class seemed to run long. Finished for the day I headed home and decided on something for supper.
Karl showed up at the usual time and he had just as uneventful a day as I had.
"I think people are starting to get ancy about going home next week."
"I don't doubt that in the least lover. Cam is undecided at this point between going home and staying with Paul. I told him if push came to shove he could ride with us."
"Which will mean we will have to take your car."
"Yeah but it's not like that is a problem Karl."
"No, it just adds about another hour and half to the drive time."
"We can always have his dad meet us at the house."
"Yeah I suppose."
We had out supper and got things cleaned up. I decided to work my way through my emails. There were still a few there trying to get interviews and those were all refused. A couple from friends that needed answering and the usual spam no matter how many filters there were.
Thursday and we were up and out as usual and then back to the apartment as our usual routine was followed. Karl headed in and I waited until about 11 to head in.
It was once again the usual 15 minute discussion and then, as I had my interview on Tuesday, it was over to the union for a quick lunch. After which it was over to the rec center. For a change there were plenty of guys around to spot me today. So I did a complete meet. All of the guys told me I was looking first rate, which meant a lot to me.
I hit the pool and then the whirlpool. Greg and Josh were there when I slid into the tub.
"You look damn near unbeatable out there Den."
"Thanks Josh, but I'd be awfully damn full of it to think that I am unbeatable. There's always someone better out there."
"Well we sure as hell haven't seen them."
"Wait until the all state. We only see about a third of all of the squads in the state after all."
"Yeah I suppose so. What do you know about this Aldean Tech coach seems to think we'll be up against?"
"I haven't heard a thing about them or researched them. I suppose I had better."
"We looked the other day after coach mentioned them. They're undefeated so far this season."
"Well so are we when comes right down to it."
"Yeah I suppose so Den, but they're beating their opponents by quite a bit. We're beating ours sure but not by as much."
"My question though is, are they holding anything in reserve?"
"You mean like your triples?"
"That's exactly what I mean Greg. If they're leaving it all out there all season and they aren't holding anything back, well that might well give us the edge. Now, I haven't been watching all of the time, but I know you have both been working on triples. If you've got them down and we hold them back as well, just think of the advantage that could well give us. I know people all over are working on triples and I'm betting we see some thrown before the season is over. If you've got them hold them until we really need them."
"We've both got a triple for the highbar Den and Josh has one he can throw in his floor. We took your advice though and are going to leave it up to coach to decide if and when we need them."
"Sounds like a plan to me. Take it easy over the long weekend if I don't see you before."
"You too Den."
I headed in for my shower and then got back to my car. I checked it over as usual. Today though I found something.
