Which is exactly what we did for the rest of the day. When supper time rolled around we headed out to Riskins. As usual the food and the service were both first rate. We spent the rest of the evening in front of the tube and crashed early.
Monday and we were up and out once again. Our laps run we were back home to shower and eat and then off to class.
Investment Vehicles dragged on today as we were covering the various segments of the stock market; something Angelo had done very well at seeing I knew over the summer.
I moved on to the room for the tax course with Mr Mcembers. 11:15 came and went and there was no Mr Mcembers. 11:30 and when he wasn't there a good portion of the students wandered off. This wasn't like him not to be there. I connected to the wifi and searched Paladins, the name of his husbands club.
I took me a few minutes but I found the story. There had been some kind of a fight at the club last night. There were few details other than several people had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
So it looked like I had hours to kill until the 3pm Risk/Rewards class. So it was over to the student union earlier than usual for my sandwich and drink.
As I was on my way in, Andy, our former RA and dancer at the club, was on his way out, sporting one hell of a black eye.
"Damn Andy what happened last night?"
"Best anybody can tell is a bunch of homophobes made their way into the club one or two at a time and at 11 just started tearing the place up. Everybody got into it and a bunch of folks were taken for treatment. Mcembers got pretty beat up from what I saw."
"Explains why he isn't here today. Thanks Andy, later."
I went in and got my food an drink and went back outside and found a quiet spot. I wondered if this might well be related to the guys who were pushing the whole situation with the frat. If it was them, they were really going over the top with the whole thing.
3pm finally got there and it was off to the Risk /Rewards class and then on home. I got things together for supper and waited on Karl.
"Hey Lover. Must have been a hell of a fight somewhere last night. I saw more than one beat up face today."
"Yeah from what I hear it was and over a Paladins. Had to be pretty bad, Mcembers didn't show up today and Andy told me that he thought Mcembers took quite a beating last night."
"Damn, I wonder if the club survived at all?"
"Andy didn't say, but they must have had insurance. As long as the building is still standing they should be able to recover."
"If they even want to. This is the second fight in as many years Den. They might just be fed up already."
"Always a possibility, but the fight last year was a handsy customer if I recall and Andy said this was a bunch of homophobes. Even at that two fights in two years ain't that bad. Regarless,it got me to thinking that it might be the guys who are pushing the action against the frat."
"Wouldn't surprise me in the least. I just hope they arrested the guys."
"There wasn't any mention in the online report that I saw, and Andy didn't say. Think these morons might start targeting individuals?"
"Damn it! You'll be number one on their hit parade if they do lover."
"I think I'm to 'high profile' for them to come after me love. No they'll start with the guys who are out but are fairly unknown otherwise. They come after somebody like me and they are really asking for trouble of the official kind."
"Still something to mention to the guys just to be on the safe side."
"Yeah I suppose. Suppers ready."
Once we were done with supper, it was school work for tomorrow. I was done fairly quickly as I only had the practicum to worry about. My imaginary portolio was still looking good and I took a few minutes to check on the real one as well.
Soon enough we were crashed out for the night and then even sooner than wanted rousted out for our jogging. Over to campus and the guys were waiting on us.
"Just a heads up guys, there was a fight the other night over at Paladins. The thought occured to me that it might be the same guys who are forcing the issue with the frat and that they might start comming after individuals."
"Fuck Den, you want us all to become as paranoid as you now?"
"No Aiden just keep your eyes open and at least try to travel in pairs when you can."
"Dennis, don't get me wrong, but I'm kinda glad this is your last year here."
"Just because I'll no longer be a student after this year doesn't mean the bullshit stops Gordon."
"Maybe not Den, but we'll sure as hell not have the worry told to us so often."
"Still doesn't make it any less real, and I'm betting a lot of it hindges on the way the frat situation turns out."
"Anything new on that front Den?"
"Not that I'm aware of Cam. As far as I know they're still trying to settle on an impartial representative."
"Shit that may take longer than actually getting the thing settled."
"Always a possibility Paul. We'll just have to wait and see."
We finished our laps and Karl and I were back to the apartment. Karl was soon off to classes and I just hung around the place until it was time to head in.
There was the usual 15 minute discussion and today I did have my review.
"Well Mr Sawyer I see you didn't do any trading this week. Still in it for the long haul."
"Yes sir. I figure all of these investemnts will be declaring their dividends close to the end of the term, which should keep me in good standing."
"Yes timing can be the key Mr Sawyer. I'll see you next time."
So now it was time to kill until the practice. I grabbed a sandwich and drink from the student union and went outside as usual.
Pete and Susan stopped for a few words as did Carleton and Devon of frisbee fame.
Time finally came for me to head over to the rec center. I changed up and went to the floor to stretch out with the rest of the guys. The coaches came out and it was right to work fo us all. Not a word was said about who was going to be the alternates. It was a full run through and it being a closed practice, I threw all of my triples.
Along about 7 we were dismissed and there was no announcement. I looked at Coach Warren and he wouldn't look me in the eye. That pretty much made me think I wouldn't be starting this meet.
I went and changed into my bathing suit and hit the pool and then the whirlpool. I noticed that a good portion of the team was hanging around. I showered up and changed into street clothes.
I was on my way out when Coach Warren came out of his office and posted a sheet to the team bulletin board. Everybody was there all at once.
"That's bullshit!"
"Does he want us to loose?"
Well you get the drift. I didn't really need to see what was on the list at that point. Coach must have heard the comments as he was out of the office to answer them.
"Ok quiet down! I understand your gripes, but I have to think of the welfare of the whole team. There's a possibility that some members of the Anderson team, or their supporters, may be holding a grudge over last year. I'm trying to deflect that by not having Mr Sawyer as a starter. This also gives those that haven't as yet been in competition the chance to do so as I promised at the beginning of the season. Piss and moan all you want in private, but take it out of here."
We moved outside pretty much as a group.
"This sucks!"
"Easy Jack. Like the coach said he has to look out for the whole team. Do I like it? Hell no. I wanted to be in this meet like I told their coach last year. Can I live with it? I don't have much of a choice if I want to stay on the team. I don't want any of you guys kicking up a fuss and maybe getting yourselves in trouble. We can come back from loosing a meet, but I sure as hell don't expect that to happen. You guys are all going to kick ass!"
"Listen to him guys. He's, as usual, right. We're going to wipe the floor with Anderson. Now get the hell out of here and rest up until we leave."
"Damn right we are Dana!"
Everybody started going their own way at that point, except Dana.
"You going to be alright with this Den?"
"Like I just said, I'm going to have to be Dana. Would I like to be out there and show them what for? Absolutely. But I have to support the coaches decision. It is what I have to do as a team member."
"I've said it before Dennis, you got more intergrity than half the school."
"Thanks Dana now go follow your own advice."
Dana took off and I called Karl to let him know I was on my way.
When I walked into the apartment it must have been written all over my face.
"Shit, you're running alternate aren't you?"
"Yeah looks that way."
"The squad put up much of a gripe?"
"Yeah and coach came out and told them off. There was still a lot of gripeing once we were out of the coaches hearing."
"And I'm betting you put a stop to it?"
"I tried. Don't know how successful I was. Hey I and they will all get over it I'm sure."
"I'm betting there's going to be whole lot of finger pointing if we loose this meet."
"Probably, but we can come back from one bad meet."
"Yeah probably, unless it plays with the guys heads, you know breaking their momentum."
"Karl look at last year. We had two bad meets and we came back and took the all state. We can come back from just about anything, except a mass wipeout of the team."
"Shut your mouth Den! Stop tempting the fates."
I let it rest and we soon had supper.
The rest of the week went about as you would think, right up until the time we loaded the bus for the trip to Anderson.
