Gordon and Aiden could see that whatever was going on was coming to a head and just kept running. Paul luckily stumbled to the grass before completely loosing his footing and going down.
"What the hell Cam?"
"You know damn happy well what! For the last week and a half you haven't been able to keep your eyes off of every guy that walks by! I thought I was suppose to be your boyfriend?"
"So I'm not even allowed to look?"
"If we have something why should you want to?"
"Cam,Paul, not really my business but hell, I'm a married man and I still get to look. So does Karl. Touch on the other hand is something completely different."
Cam gave me a rather dirty look for a second, but seemed to be thinking about it.
"Dennis has a point Cam. I haven't 'touched' anyone since we got together."
"That you would even want to look just bugs the hell out of me."
"Cam, looking is second nature. It's a habit that is really hard to break. Not that I want specifics, but who is it that Paul cuddles with at the end of the night?"
That seemmed to take the wind out of Cams sails.
"I'm going to finish my run. You two need to go talk this out sooner rather than later."
Karl and I left them sitting there in the grass and went around and finished our laps. We got back to the apartment and got ready for the day and were on our way.
Classes went as expected today and with the meet tomorrow I just headed home after them. I was home before Karl so got supper started.
Karl showed up a while later and we ate and crashed early. I had to be on campus by 5:30 for the team breakfast. When I got to the cafeteria the Pemberton team was already seated and the rest of our squad was working their way through the line. I looked over the Pemberton team and it looked like most of the same guys were on the team as last year. When I sat down it just happened that I was across from Albert, the great grandson of the schools founder.
"I see by the line up that you're not an alternate this year Dennis."
"Nope first string and ready to take on the world."
"After the all states I don't doubt that one bit."
We both pretty much paid attention to our meals until it was time for the Pemberton team to go over to the venue and warm up.
I found a quiet place to get my head in the game while I waited for our warm up time.
It was eventually time for our team to warm up and I was right there with them.
When our time was up, we headed back into the locker room. The doors opened and the people filled the place in pretty short order, more than a few of them in Pemberton colors.
We were all called to the floor and opening ceremonies took place. Soon enough I was paired off with one of the guys from Pemberton and we took our first position which happened to be the pommel horse today. Being the home team, I was up first. I mounted the horse and did my routine as solidly as I could, and remembering to keep my toes pointed, and nailed my dismount. The guy I was up against did a pretty good routine and made a solid landing as well.
We moved on to the next station which was the vault. I landed my first vault solidly, as well as my second, though Coach Warren hadn't let me throw the triple here. My opponent didn't do quite as well. As usual I didn't look to the scoreboard. When we got to the rings I looked at the coach and he shook his head no. I did my routine and only did the double somersualt dismount. I wobbled a bit,but didn't step out. Here the toher guy was pretty solid.
I got the same shake of the head when it came time for my floor excercise. When we hit the highbar I got an affirmative nod for the triple, but everyone expected it here anyway. My final station for the day was the parrallel bars where I did my routine and landed my dismount once again.
Now I could look at the scoreboard and it was easy to see that we had taken this meet. The announcement was made and our folks rushed the floor and Doug was right there with the rest of them.
"Damn fine showing all around Dennis!"
"Thanks Doug. That means a lot to me coming from you."
We got things organized pretty quickly and the awards were passed out. I made my way to the showers and soon enough was outside the venue to the praise of my friends. The team had decided to make it a practice from now on to go over and see the visiting team off. So I trudged on over to Cochran hall with everybody else.
When we got there I was surprised to see what a wreck their bus was. The team was on their way out at that point and Albert looked at the bus and just shrugged his shoulders.
"We had a breakdown and had to take what we could get. It got us here and hopefully will get us home."
"Shit happens even to well off people. Take it easy and better luck next time."
We all shook hands with the guys as they loaded on the bus and they were shortly gone.
It didn't take long after that for everybody to go their seperate ways and I headed back to the apartment. Karl was there waiting on me and we both just crashed out for the rest of the afternoon. We at some point had our supper and made an early night of it,
Bright and early we were off to campus and our jogging with the guys. Cam and Paul ran with us but didn't have anything to say this morning.
Our laps completed we headed home for showers and breakfast. We settled in to book work for the rest of the morning and afternoon until I heard the guys pull in for supper.
Karl and I were soon enough downstairs to help set the table and Cam and Paul didn't have a lot to say, which was fine. They at least didn't seem to be arguing.
Dinner was finished and the table cleared and Karl and I were on our way back upstairs.
"Den, can we have a few?"
"Come on up guys."
We were all standing in the living room area.
"So spit it out already."
"We just wanted to let you know that we had a long talk yesterday. I guess I just need to stop looking so much and Cam has to be a little less the green eyed monster. Something we're both going to have to work at."
"As long as you get it worked out guys. Like I said looking is just a natural thing, harmless. It's following through that gets you in trouble."
"Yeah well I have no intention of following through."
"First time he does and he'll be sleeping alone, permanently."
"And what if he's not the one who follows through? What if your eye wanders Cam?"
"Not likely Den, but I guess the same rules would have to apply."
"Sounds like you guys have got it pretty well ironed out. Just cut each other a little slack."
"Yeah I suppose. We'll see you in the morning."
"You bet Paul. Good night Cam."
"G'night."
Once the guys were gone Karl just looked at me.
"That ended up better than it had any right to."
"Yeah guess we all lucked out this time."
We did a little more school work and then crashed for the evening.
Bright and early Monday we were at it again with laps being run and then back to get ready for the rest of the day. Classes went pretty much as expected and I was home directly after them today. I was there so I started supper for us. While it was cooking, I checked my email which didn't have anything but spam. My smail mail on the other hand had an envelope from the district court at home.
I had been selected for jury duty. I looked at the date and it was smack in the middle of classes. It was early enough that I called the lawyers.
"Well Mr Sawyer to do I owe the pleasure today?"
"I just got a jury duty notice and the time they want me there is right in the middle of classes. What do I do? I mean if it weren't for classes I'd gladly do it."
"Fax me the notice and I'll handle it for you. Next time though I expect you to stand up."
"As long as next time is during the summer or after I graduate I'm fine with that. Thanks Mr Jacobs."
"Not a problem Mr Sawyer."
I got the thing faxed out to him and not long after Karl showed up. He saw the notice as I had left it on my desk.
"What are you going to do about this lover?"
"Already done. Mr Jacobs is going to file whatever is needed."
"Not like you to say no."
"Hey if it weren't right in the middle of classes it wouldn't have been a problem. If it ended up a case that dragged on for more than a week,I'd never be able to pass the classes, even keeping up online if they'd let me do that."
"Which wouldn't be likely with a jury trial. Guess there's nothing for it then."
We shortly had supper and got things cleaned up and settled in for the night.
Tuesday morning was bright and clear and our laps were taken care of and it was back to the apartment for Karl and I. He was off in short order while I hung around for a while. I did do a review of my imaginary portfolio and got that squared away as it was a review day for me.
Eventually I headed in for the class and had the review taken care of.
"Looks as though you are still on track Mr Sawyer. Keep up the good work."
I headed over to the rec center for a workout after that. It was open practice and I just worked my floor and rings again. When I was finished I saw Doug heading towards me.
"Dennis, I just wanted to see you before I left. I couldn't count on you coming by the frat, but I knew I'd find you here."
"You've finished your investigation?"
"Yes I have."
"And?"
