Wednesday dawned wet and stormy so there was no jogging today. Karl and I did get dressed and had breakfast and then headed off to classes which went about as expected. I had done a good bit of swimming yesterday, so I headed home after the last class.
While I waited for Karl to get home I got ahead a bit on my class reading. I don't know how much of it I actually retained as Thomas was still on my mind. I was going to have to get him out of my mind if I was going to really get anything done.
Karl, at some point, did get home and supper was had and then we settled in for the evening.
Thursday morning and we were at the routine once again. Today however I did intend to go to the rec center to hit the apparatus room.
When I got there, they place was pretty empty, which meant there wasn't anybody to spot me. It was a good half hour before anybody showed up and it was Greg and Josh who did.
"We missed you the other day."
"Had things on my mind and thought it better not to be here."
"Yeah I've had days like that. Got it all sorted out?"
"Not really but I've got it to the point I can concentrate on what I'm doing. I'll spot you guys until somebody else shows up."
I helped the guys through their workouts and at one point I ended up having to catch Josh before he landed badly. The second he realized I had hands on him ne went stiff and I could see a bit of panic in his eyes. I immediately let him go. It was obvious, at least to me, that Josh wasn't as over my being gay as he thought he was.
"Deep breath Josh."
I spoke only loud enough for him to hear me.
"It doesn't mean a thing. I was just spotting you like any other member of the team."
"Yeah I hear you, but damn it I can't help but think about it."
"Then somebody else had better spot you from now on."
I moved off and coach was there.
"Anything wrong Dennis?"
"Just nerves I think coach. That was the first time I ever spotted Josh. I think the reality of my putting hands on him was just a bit more than he was ready for."
"Think it's going to be a problem?"
"Not as long as somebody else spots him coach."
"Think he and Greg are ready to compete?"
"Who is up next?"
"Pemberton."
"We beat them fairly easy last year if memory serves. I'd give them their shot."
"Dana agrees with you on that, and it is here so the support will certainly be there. Well then, let me see your floor today."
When the mat was clear I went and did my floor and only threw a double somersault as this was an open practice.I then went and did my rings and high bar routines. Coach didn't seem to want anything of me so I went and changed and hit the pool.
When I finally got out of the pool I hit the whirlpool and it just happed that Greg and Josh were there. I wasn't going to let that stop me. I slipped into the whirlpool and just looked at them.
"Are we good?"
"Yeah I think so Den. It was just a gut reaction I think. I mean you've had the oppurunity to hit on us and never have. I really should be over it by now."
"So why do you think that you aren't?"
"Hell if I know."
"But I might and before I go any further with that, first I am NOT coming on to you and second I am NOT volunteering. Now, honest answer. Have you ever thought about what it would be like with a guy?"
Josh took a look around to make sure there wasn't anybody else around.
"I.........yeah I have."
"And you were afraid you might enjoy it."
"Yeah."
Greg was just sitting there kind of slack jawed at the whole conversation.
By this time Josh's color had risen through several shades of red and it had little to do with the temp of the whirlpool.
"So, you are curious, but are afraid to even try. So when my hands landed on you and you know that I'm gay, your subconcious probably said 'oh shit'."
"Sounds reasonable. So what do I do about it?"
"The answer is as obvious as it is scary. You should probably find someone to satisfy the curiosity. Having said that I would choose very carefully. You want to find somebody who when you say stop, will stop."
"Where would I even start?"
"Well you do know where a whole house full of gay and bi men reside."
"Your frat? Yeah I guess that is kinda the obvious place to look. Any suggestions?"
"Truth to tell I haven't hung out there enough to say. I will say that you should probably not consider Jared though."
"Agressive is he?"
"I'd have said single minded. He wasn't brutal about it but I didn't feel like there was any concern there. Felt like I was just another notch on his bedpost. Alternatively, keep your eyes open in the showers and see if anybody has a roving eye either here or at the dorm."
"You know something about somebody that I don't?"
"If I did I wouldn't tell you Josh. Not everybody is as forthcoming and open as I am."
"I guess I can appreciate that. I'll think about it."
"You have got to be kidding me!"
"Damn Greg take it easy, I just said I'd think about it."
"That you'd even consider it is weird."
"Yeah maybe, but Dennis does have a point. If I'm ever to 'get over it' I may just have to satisfy my curiosity."
"Well you can damn well count me out in that endeavor."
"Guys, just do yourselves a favor and dicuss it only in private, if at all."
I shortly after headed for the showers and changed. I gave Karl a quick call to let him know I was on the way home.
"So how was your day lover?"
"Not bad and yours?"
"Great up until practice. I spotted the new guys and when I had to catch one of them he damn near freaked out."
"Thought that was all behind you guys?"
"He did too right up until he realized I had hands on him."
"So did it get handled?"
"Yeah I think so, but only time will tell. Looks like their going to get their shot at the next meet too."
"Who is that against?"
"Pemberton and it's here in three weeks."
"Think they'll return the favor from last year?"
"What get a busload of people over here? Always possible, but they didn't have that large a turnout even having home court."
"Yeah I remember. Think we had about twice what they did."
"Regardless, they didn't give us that hard a time, so I'm confident."
"You're always confident Den. Doesn't mean you can't get beat."
"I said comfident not arrogant. There's always a damn good possibility that we vould get beat and I'm realist enough to know that."
"Easy lover, I'm not looking for a fight. Get the table set, supper is almost ready."
We sat down to supper shortly after that and then settled in for some school work until it was time to sack out.
Friday morning ans we were up and out for the usual routine, back for our showers and breakfast and then off to campus.
Today Investement Vehicles started getting into commodities. This was something that I really had to pay attention to as I had little idea about them. The focus was on futures. If I had understood this right, you could buy a future crop as X today and when it was due to be harvested sell it at X+Y, but only if everything broke your way. Were there large profits to be made? Sure but there was also a big risk. If weather affected the crop adversely, you could loose big time. If there was more crop that there was demand you could loose. Overall I think commodities was something I was going to stay away from.
Then it was on to Tax Law. The individual circumstances that governed how an investment was taxed could well drive most people around the bend. Needless to say it took a special kind of mind to be an expert in this field. Make no mistake, I'm sure we had a division that kept track of that for all of our clients, because lord knows I wouldn't have been able to.
After that I grabbed some lunch and sat outside in the sun to enjoy it. A few people stopped for a few words and eventually it was off to Risk Rewards, which seemed to drag on forever today.
Finally finished there I had a couple of hours to kill before the meeting at the frat, which I still had no idea what it was about. So what to do? The options were to go over to the rec center and get ina bit of a work out, head home, but Karl wouldn't be there for at least another hour and after that there wouldn't be time enough for supper before I had to head for the frat. I could hit the library and use the time to study, or head over to the dorms to see how everybody was making out, but mostly they all still had at least another hour to finish.
I decided to hit the rec center and have a good swim for myself. The pool was relatively empty this afternoon and I had a good bit of a workout. I was into the whirlpool for a few minutes when Dana joined me.
"Hey Den. Haven't seen you the last couple of days."
"Yeah I had something on my mind so it wasnt't really into the gymnastics."
"Yeah I understand. Seems there's a bit of that going around.'
"Oh?"
"Yeah our two freshman don't seem to have their heads in the game lately."
I immeidiately thought of the conversation of a couple of days ago. I hoped to hell they weren't still upset over that.
"They working out today?"
"They were here earlier but coach could see that their minds weren't on it so sent them home. He's having doubts about starting them against Pemberton."
"Did he tell them that?"
"No he hasn't said anything to them yet. He's hoping whatever it is works itself out PDQ."
Now I felt like I had to say something to them as I thought I might well be at the base of their disagreements. So I was up and out and changed pretty quick today. I still had about 45 minutes before I had to be at the frat,so I headed over to Ingram Hall to see if I could talk to Greg and Josh.
