Al hung up his phone and looked at me.
"They just found Andros's body in his home. He was shot apparent suicide."
"That doesn't track from what I've seen of the guy."
"I said apparent. It's still being looked into."
"Yeah he wasn't married so there isn't anyone to worry about, well other than his brothers. As far as we know though they have stayed away from the family business. There's going to be a rush to fill his spot and the agency is going to have to keep a close watch on things. I'm to finish out the week with you and if nothing happens to report back to the office on Monday."
"So Stimson thinks I'm in the clear?"
"Yeah that is the thinking, next couple of days should give us a good indication."
"Well best get some sleep. Tomorrow is another day."
To bad I couldn't follow my own advice. When I got into bed, Karl knew something was bothering me.
"What gives Den?"
"They found Andros shot dead, apparent suicide."
"And you're not buying it?"
"Not from what I've seen of the guy. I want you to be extra careful the next few days and Mrs Ohanlon is not coming back for a while I think. We need to learn to survive on our own anyway."
"Yeah I doubt Mrs Castanza will be looking out for us like Mrs Ohanlon does. Try and get some sleep lover."
"Tonight that's going to be easier said than done."
I must have eventually dropped off as the alarm was soon ringing in my ear.
"I really don't want to do this today."
"To bad lover. We're committed, or maybe we should be."
I didn't comment but slid out of bed and grabbed my jogging stuff. We were soon enough out the door and meeting up with the guys, black and white in tow, which pleased Al.
Roland and Aaron both gave the black and white a curious look.
"Andros Teramedies was found dead last night. This is just a precaution."
"Dead how?"
"Apparent suicide Aaron."
Little else was said this morning as we headed down to the track. Nothing of consequence happened as we all returned to our homes. Karl did us up some scrambled eggs and ham and Al and I were on our way to the office, once again tailed by a black and white.
I went and found Stan and before I could say anything he spoke up.
"Yes I heard and that is going to have repurcussions of its own. Best advice is to be cautious today and to not over-react. Otherwise things were quiet overnight."
"Not like that is going to last long I'm betting."
"All we can do is keep our eyes open Dennis. Get to it."
I went out and got my desk organized for the day and Angelo was soon there.
"I take it you've heard Mr Sawyer?"
"Indeed, I was informed last night."
"The usual advice is forth coming I presume?"
"As far as I know, yes."
The day was pretty unremarkable. Lunchtime came and went and there was no apparent reaction to Andros's death. That may well have been because so much of his companies had already been sold off.
It was bugging me that Andros was dead. It didn't make a lot of sense to me for him to sell off and raise all of that money and then kill himself, especially if he didn't have anybody to leave the money to.
Angelo saw something was bothering me and when he had a bit of a lull he put his question and I told him what I was thinking.
"Yeah that is kinda strange but stranger things have happened I'm sure."
"I'm sure as well, but damn it this just isn't sitting right with me. I wish there was a way for us to keep track of all of that cash."
"Even if he left a will, it will probably be tied up for years."
"Yeah probably."
The temptation was there to see if Stimson and his guys could track the money, but I had already pushed that connection as far as I thought I could.
We all kept our eyes open and rolled with the market, which remained pretty stable throughout the day.
4:30 and the closing bell and people started getting things ready to go home. Hump day was over for another week.
It was an escorted drive home and Karl had dinner just about ready for us. Tonight he had gotten daring and made a meatloaf, with baked potatoes for us. I was going to have to learn to cook a few things myself as it wouldn't be fair for Karl to do all of the cooking, especially where I was likely to have the lighter class load even with the gymnastics thrown in.
Tonight we didn't bother with either the pool or the workout room. We simply crashed and zoned out in front of the tv until it was time to make the rounds.
Karl and I were in bed,but not asleep.
"This is really bothering you isn't Den?"
"You mean it shows? Yeah it's bothering me and it will right up until I hear that it really was a suicide and that it was Andros and not some damn double."
"Get real Den, that kinda thing only happens is books and movies."
"And you never heard of life imitating art?"
"Ok it's possible, but not very likely."
"And that slight possibility is enough for me. I know you're going to think I'm getting paranoid again, but damn this just doesn't track for me."
"If it doesn't track for you lover, Stimson must be running himself ragged."
"Oh I have no doubt whatsoever that he's camped out on the coroners doorstep waiting for the final results. I just hope he shares."
"At this point love I'm betting he will. He knows how concerned you are over the whole thing."
"Yeah but I'm not holding my breath. Let's try and get some sleep."
Next thing either of us knew the alarm was going off so we were up and out once again. Laps were run under escort and we were all back to our houses, breakfast had and Al and I were off to the office, again with an escort.
Stan found me this morning.
"Still quiet overnight. Just keep on doing what you've been doing."
"I can do that."
So it was out to my desk, a quick check of my imaginary investments, and then ready to support Angelo with whatever he needed, unless he had a particular assignment for me.
Turns out he didn't so we just worked the phones as usual. Morning passed into afternoon and finally to 4:30. To say that the day had been unremarkable would have been an understatement.
Al and I made it back to the house and Karl had been hard at it to make us dinner tonight. Salad, with pork chops and roasted potatoes and corn on the cob.
After dinner was spent in the pool for a while before we crashed in front of the tv until bedtime. I made my rounds of the doors and windows and set the alarm.
Friday morning and we were up and out and back to the house and the routine started all over again.
The day at the office was just as usual and about 4:00 I printed out my weekly summary for Angelo.
"Seems that you are holding your own very well Mr Sawyer. We'll see how things are in another 3 weeks at the end of the summer."
"Three weeks from now I'm likley not to really care with the wedding being right in my face."
"I'm sure you'll do fine with it all Mr Sawyer. Have yourself a good weekend."
"You too."
By this time 4:30 had rolled around and I went and found Stan.
"Pretty regular day Dennis. Hear anything from Mr Stimson?"
"Not a word. Anything shocking comes up over the weekend I'll let you know."
"Then here's hoping I don't hear from you."
"We should be so lucky. Have a good weekend Stan."
"You too Dennis."
Al and I were soon back to the house and dinner was served. Karl had gotten the grill going tonight and it was hotdogs and hamburgers with the usual fixings. While Karl and I were in the pool, Al was busy getting his things together.
"I'm going to stick with you for your workout tomorrow and then I'll get my ass in gear and get out of here on Sunday."
"I think I'm going to miss not having you at my back Al."
"And you've been one of the best protectees that I've covered in a long time. You can't believe what assholes some of them have been."
"Please I don't want to hear any war stories on that front."
Soon enough bedtime was there for us and it seemed even sooner the alarm. Up and out once again, breakfast and then The three of us were on our way over to Edgeton.
Coach was right there waiting on me.
"Comeon Sawyer. You've slacked off for the last two weekends. We've got some work to do!"
Coach worked me hard all morning and the triples were looking good and solid by the time we were done for the day. I took some time in the whirlpool today before I showered up and got back to Karl and Al. We grabbed lunch before heading back home. Once there we just all lounged around the pool and relaxed.
We were over to Karls house for supper tonight and relaxed there until just about time for us too call it a night. The three of us headed back over to my house and once everything was locked up and checked we crashed out.
Sunday saw the usual routine and when we got back Al pulled his suitcase out by the front door.
"Well looks like this is the end of things for us Dennis."
"Good luck with your future Al and stay safe."
Al pulled out is phone to call for a cab and it rang.
"This doesn't look good. It's Stimson."
He moved away from us to take the call.
