Chapter 2
............................
Will woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat. He had a dream that his parents, sisters, and friends disowned him after finding out that he was gay. They would hate him for sure, he just knew it. He walked down the stairs and saw Shawn asleep on the couch. He didn't want to wake him but he desperately needed someone to be there for him. He shook Shawn softly.
"Hey Will, what's wrong?." Shawn said groggily.
"I just..... have this thought that keeps playing in my head ........ It has do with my friends and family hating for me being gay......" Will replied sadly
Shawn stroked Will's hand. "Look, people don't always have the best reactions. I have not even told my family but I had all good reactions from my friends."
"Maybe that's where I should start, my friends." Will said.
Will went to school, he was very nervous about how his friends were going to react.
"Hey Mary, Deniece, Joe! Wait up guys!"
"Hey Will!" They all responded.
"Do you guys have a minute? I need to tell you guys something." Will asked nervously.
"Of course, Will." They responded.
"This is really hard.......I've had something bothering me for awhile now. I'm gay..." Will said softly.
"Will, we know. You have never talked about or dated girls. We kind of put two and two together. We still love you though." Mary responded
"You mean a lot to us, Will." Joe said.
"Thanks guys." Will responded
"We've got to go to Calculus, thanks for confiding in us. We love you and support you. Bye Will!." Mary said.
"Catch you later man!" Joe said.
Will met Shawn at a local coffee shop.
"So how did it go?" Shawn asked.
"They were totally fine with it. I was shocked." Will responded
"I'm glad." Shawn replied
"So how about some coffee? I need some energy!" Will said
"I definitely could use the energy as well. I have a huge exam tonight." Shawn replied
Will got home and was in a great mood for the first time in forever. When he walked in the door, he saw both of his parents with distressed expressions on their faces.
"Hey mom, hey dad. What's going on?" Will asked
"We got a call from Deniece's parents. She was very concerned about you. She said that you are a......" His mother gulped
"Homosexual." His dad finished
"In the bible, it says that being a homosexual is a sin. People that are gay go to hell. We love you but this is not the direction that God planned for your life." His dad said
"I didn't choose this. Do you think I wanted to be gay? After what happened all those years ago, It would seem that I would never want to be near a guy." Will replied
"There are books as well as classes. This is not God's plan for you." His dad said
"I can't change this. I spent eight years hating myself. I'm finally happy with who I am." Will walked off to his room.
"Will! We think it is best if you leave the house for now! Me and your mother need to discuss some things!" His dad said
"Fine!" Will slammed the door and started dialing Shawn's number.
"Hey, can I come to your house tonight? I told my parents about me and they needed me to leave. I'm shaking and I don't think I can drive" Will said
"I was actually just about to pass your house oddly enough. I will see you in a few." Shawn replied.
Shawn drove up. Will didn't waste any time in jumping into the car.
"Hey....how are you holding up?" Shawn asked.
"I don't mean to be rude but can you start driving...being at my house is too much right now." Will responded
"Of course. My bad." Shawn replied and started driving towards his house. He pulled up to his home. They walked into his house and sat on the couch.
"They didn't hit you or scream at you, did they?" Shawn asked.
"No, they just told me about how it's wrong and I'm going to hell.....it hurts so bad to hear my parents say that. I feel like they stabbed me with daggers" Will broke down crying.
"Hey there.....Don't listen to what they say. You are not going to hell." Shawn comforted Will by holding him.
Will woke up, trying to figure out where he was at. Someone had their arms around him. He had his head on this person's shoulder. Everything started coming back to him. He was at Shawn's house. Shawn was the one who was holding him. Shawn started to stir.
Will sat up. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep on you." He said nervously
"Man, It's fine. Really." Shawn responded.
"Since you let me stay here, I'll make some breakfast." Will said excitedly
Will went into the kitchen and cooked up scrambled eggs, grits, and sausage.
"Smells delicious. Thanks for cooking breakfast." Shawn said
Will's phone was ringing. His dad. He answered but didn't speak.
"Hey Will, me and your mother want you to know that we still love you. We don't approve but we love you. We think it is best if you don't live at the house right now." His dad said seriously
"You are kicking me out? Fine." Will hung up the phone. He didn't cry a lot but lately he just couldn't control it.
"Will, I'm sorry for this hurt you are experiencing. You do not deserve it. Maybe your parents will come around. Stay here with me. I could use a roommate" Shawn pulled Will into a hug and patted him on the back.
"Are you sure?" Will asked
"Of course, I would love having you here. You have become a great friend." Shawn replied
Will and Shawn decided to go eat at a taco restaurant. As they sat down, the waitress came to get their order.
"Hi, I'm Shauna. I will be your waitress tonight. What can I get for you two lovebirds?"
Shawn and Will both quickly responded. "We aren't together!"
"Oh, I'm sorry." She took their order and quickly walked away, embarrassed.
Shawn and Will went back to Shawn's apartment. They fell asleep in different rooms and woke up the next morning. They drove to school together.
Shawn and Will were walking out of their Spanish class when they heard shouting and shots being fired. Will moved fast, grabbing Shawn's hand. "Come on! We have to move fast!" Bullets were flying. Shawn got shot and started to stumble. Will put him on his shoulder and ran faster than he had ever run in his life. Will found a closet and quickly lugged Shawn inside. Thank goodness there was a lock on the inside. Will could finally attend to Shawn's wound.
"Where did you get shot?" Will asked calmly
"On the back of my leg, it's not that bad. I just can't move it." Shawn responded
Will looked around and saw a first aid kit on the shelf behind him. "I'm going to try to take the bullet out, ok?" Will said
"Do you know what you're doing?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah, my dad taught me how to take a bullet out. He's a doctor and I would go with him sometimes and learn." Will responded
"Strip off your jeans and boxers." Will said
Even after being shot, Shawn had a shocked look on his face. "I.....uhhh......" Shawn tried to find words.
"This is not the time for modesty." Will said
Shawn was fumbling with his jeans trying to get them off. "Ugh!" Shawn uttered frustrated.
"Oh, come on. I will help." Will helped Shawn get out his jeans.
"Now, with the boxers." Will said
"What? Can't you get to the bullet without taking them off." Shawn asked
Shawn's face was turning a crimson red.
"Nope, they have to go." Will said.
Shawn was able to get out of his boxers on his own. He put his jeans on his ass so that it was a little less embarrassing.
Will was working on getting the bullet out and Shawn was screaming in pain.
Will covered Shawn's mouth. "Hey, I know it hurts really badly but I don't know where the shooter is. Put your boxers in your mouth if you have to scream." Will said
Will was able to get the bullet out and cleaned the wound.
"Thank the Lord it was not deep." Will said.
Shawn put his pants and boxers back on. "I wonder if he is gone." he said
Will pulled out his phone and called the campus police. "Hi, I am on campus and I need to know if the shooter is still on the loose."
The person responded. "He is still on campus. Our police force is still trying to find him. Let me track your cell phone. I don't want to freak you out but you need to stay very calm and remain very quiet. He is right around your area." Will hung up the phone. Shawn had been listening as well.
They both freaked out when they saw the door handle trying to be opened. It was locked but the person was very persistent.
Shawn moved into Will's arms. "I never told you this before because I wanted to get to know you more but I like you a lot." Shawn said looking into Will's eyes. "I don't want to die without doing this." Shawn kissed Will on the lips. The door popped open. Both guys were prepared for the worst.
"Are you both alright?" A campus policeman asked them.
"He got shot but I was able to get the bullet out and clean the wound. Is there a medic to make sure I did it right?" Will said
"Right over there!" The campus policeman said.
Will helped Shawn to the ambulance.
"You did this?" The medic asked.
"Yeah, did I do something wrong?" Will asked.
"No, you did a great job. I would recommend that he not be on his feet for the next couple of days though." The medic replied.
"Ok." Will responded.
Will drove Shawn back to their apartment.
They were both very silent in the car. Neither said a word.
Will helped Shawn into the apartment.
Shawn looked at Will as they sat on the couch. "I'm sorry I kissed you earlier." Shawn said.
"It's ok." Will responded
Shawn took that to mean Will was not interested in him.
"I'm going to stay here for the rest of the week but I don't think I should stay longer than that." Will responded
Shawn didn't say anything. He had really fucked this up.
The week passed and the apartment was extremely quite the entire time.
Shawn was starting to get really depressed. Will didn't return his text messages, he wouldn't talk to him in class.
