Chapter Eight

Cat and Mouse

Kathy and I chatted while I waited on my and Rav's laundry to get done and she tended the dinner she had going on the stove. She was the first full human I'd felt close to since my mother left. I kept moving our conversation toward school and work and she kept moving it back to the relationship I had with her son. It wasn't that I felt like I had to hide anything, it was just -- I considered that stuff to be personal, just between Rav and me.

"So anyway, like I was saying, Evan...Mr. Winston is going to give me and Ravan a discount on all our textbooks" I told her, "An added perk of the job."

"Because Ravan's your boyfriend?" she asked. The insides of my ears were hot again and my tail dropped down and hit the back of the chair as it tried to go between my legs..

"Well...yeah...I mean..." I stuttered, why was she torturing me? "Oh, did I tell you about that little café place we saw on the Serpent's Tail?"

"Kreg are you ashamed of being with Ravan?" she asked. I turned my head to look at her like she was crazy.

"Why would you ask that?" I snapped.

"Every time I ask about you two, you change the subject" she said. I let out a big sigh.

"I'm not good discussing my personal thoughts and feelings. My dad never approved of boys even having feelings" I told her. She waited patiently. I sighed again. After seeing she still wasn't satisfied, I relented.

"Okay, but forgive me if I die, right in this chair, from embarrassment..." I prologued my coming speech, which I hoped to be the last word on the subject. I tried to think up something profound to say; I ended up being truthful though a little cringe.

"I...uh...well...here's the deal" I started, I took a deep breath and spit it out, "I love Ravan with every atom of my being, he's like a gift the gods sent me. You don't have anything to worry about on my part if what you're worried about is me hurting Ravan. I'd rather kill myself that harm him in any way." I said it all so fast most of my words were running together. My eyes went watery, and an involuntary tear ran down across my maw. She sat back and smiled with an smug look of accomplishment.

"So, what were you saying about that café/souvenir stand?" she asked as if nothing ever happened. The buzzer went off on the dryer and I went to pull the clothes out. Kathy made room on the table so I could do my folding. The conversation kind of came to an end when Kris came in from work.

"Hey gang" he said, walking over and planting a kiss on Kathy. "I had a strange visitor at the office today" he said.

"Oh yeah, how so?" Kathy asked him as I continued to fold items.

"Some agents from the U.S. Space Liason's office asking a lot of questions" Kris said. I felt a chill run down my spine.

"What could they be wanting to know from you?" Kathy asked.

"Digging for information on our unofficial adopted son here. Asking all kinds of questions" Kris said, looking at me.

"Why are they interested in Kreg, other than he was left alone when his parents fled Earth" she asked. I had a really good idea what they were wanting to know.

"I don't know, they kept asking if Kreg had been spending a lot of money recently, stuff like that. I told them about his mom leaving his enough to pay of his motorcycle when they left" he said, "that was all wasn't it, Kreg?"

"Well, it was a little more than enough to pay off the loan, I put the rest in a bank account. It's only a couple thousand dollars. Do they want it?" I asked, trying to keep my cool.

"Nah, I don't think so anyway. They seemed to think you'd have huge sums of money to spend for some reason" I kept folding and shrugged my shoulders.

"The main dude, I think he was called Danvers, said they would be around town checking things out for a few days" Kris said.

"I'd give them my key to the house, but I gave it back to the rental office" I said.

"Oh well, I guess we'll find out what's going on later" Kris said. I finished folding the last couple of pairs of underwear and excused myself to take the clean laundry back up.

"Dinner at six!" Kathy shouted. I was nearly up the stairs when Rav called out to me, saying he'd be up in a minute. I waved my acknowledgement and went inside to start putting things away. I glanced over at my cellphone that I'd left on the charger earlier expecting to see a text message from Mark. Either they hadn't contacted him yet or he was playing it safe and not using the phone as a means of contact. Ravan came in and saw what I was doing and started helping put his clothes in their rightful places.

"We had fun, you should have come along" he said.

"Sometimes you need to do fun things without me. Danny still wants you in his life too. If I take up all your time, he'll resent me" I said.

"You overthink things too much" Ravan said, but I could tell he was mulling over what I said. "Hey, what do you think about fooling around?"

"I think your mom said dinner will be at six, and its already 5:45" I answered.

"We could be fashionably late..." he said, wagging one eyebrow and his tail.

"...ooorrrr, we could wait till bedtime" I countered. He rolled his head and blew out a disgusted breath.

I went out toward the house and Rav trailed behind me, still pouting about not getting his way. As usual Kathy's dinner was really good. We were stuffed afterward. Much to Rav's dismay, I offered to help Kathy with the dishes.

"He said almost word for word the same thing about you" Kathy whispered to me, apparently continuing our conversation from earlier in the afternoon. She leaned in again, "He told us that if we wouldn't let you stay here, he was going to move out and get a place with you. `I found my soulmate, just like you and dad' he said" she whispered. Soulmate? I felt my entire being warm up.

"Hey, what's with all the whispering over there?" Ravan said loudly. We just laughed.

"If you had offered to help, you might have known" I smarted off at him. Kris slapped Rav on the back and laughed out loud. Me and his mom finished drying and putting away the dishes. She gave me a knowing look and pointed at Ravan. He was looking really impatient to get out of the family house. I hugged her and thanked her for the dinner and crooked a finger for Rav to come on. He beat me to the door. I stopped him and whispered in his ear.

"Thanks, mom. Dinner was great!" he said, then took off. I winked at Kathy and closed the door.

By the time I got upstairs, he was laying naked on the bed working lube into his hole. Oh! Well, that's different! I locked the door behind me. I was happy to give him time with Danny, but I didn't want Danny or anybody else walking in on us. I doubted Danny would anyway, he wasn't even at dinner -- gone to eat at Melanie's. I quickly lost my clothes in a pile on the loveseat and jumped on the bed.

"Looks like you already have a plan?" I asked. He nodded and put me on my back. My dick was almost hard enough to touch my stomach. He straddled me and pulled my hard cock up to get it in line with his hole and started to work it in. That was usually my position; he wasn't as skilled as me. I jumped a little when I felt the ridge pop inside his ring of muscle. Rav yelped "Ow ow ow!" He took his time settling the rest of the way down on it. The tightness, the soft slickness, and the heat were almost too much. I had to think about roadkill to keep from cumming as soon as I felt his bushy tail settle down onto my balls. He fidgeted on me making my dick move around inside him as if he was trying to get something just right. He leaned backward holding himself us with his his arms and made a little motion up and down and I could feel his hole clench.

"Perfect" he sighed. He worked himself up and down on my stiff cock. I figured out that the position he's contorted himself to was for the benefit of having my cock ride across his prostate on every stroke -- I'd used the position myself. It was all upside for him; for me it was creating an amount of friction that was threatening to make this session very short.

"Rav, if you keep doing that, I'm gonna cum in about 10 seconds" I whisper/whined. Reluctantly, he sat more upright and tightened his hole around the base of my dick. I ran my hands all over him, massaging his thick-furred chest and down his torso until taking his cock in my right hand and grabbing his balls in my left and softly tugging them away from his body. He let out a growling groan and started pumping faster on me. I tightened my grip on his cock and stroked him like crazy.

"Close" he grunted. He readjusted into the original position and the extra tension made me lose it. I was pulsing like crazy, and it felt like I ejaculated a pint of cum. Once I caught my breath, I focused on him and carefully watched his face to see what was working best. I pulled on his scrotum again and jerked his sheath back so far it had to at the point of hurting. His first shot cleared me entirely and splatted the headboard, the second left a white line on my fur, the rest just formed a pool in my navel.

"Gods damn! That was awesome" he gasped, trying to regain his composure; somewhat hard to do while impaled on a semi-hard cock. He stayed on me until my penis started softening. I felt him squeeze his hole tightly before he swung off to my right onto his back. We both started at the ceiling for a while.

"Ravan, I think it's more than just `I love you'; I think I'm in love with you" I said.

"You only think you are?" he asked incredulously. I thought about it roughly 2 seconds.

"Nah, I know" I told him, "Just trying to break it to you gently."

"Unnecessary, because I already knew" he said, rolling slightly to kiss me. Fifteen minutes of making out later...

"We should probably get a shower and get some sleep. Long day tomorrow" he said. I got up and held out my hand and helped him up. After a much-needed shower we crawled naked into the bed and fell asleep.

I finished my morning classes and headed to the little area beside the building with picnic tables and waited on Rav. It was his day to get lunch. He texted me and asked what I wanted, I told him to surprise me. I should have said anything but Taco Bell. I guess it this was okay as far as Taco Bell went -- a Grilled Cheese Steak Burrito and a Baja Blast Mountain Dew. We finished up and I had to take off for my shift at the bookstore.

I had just signed in on the timeclock when Evan said some gentlemen wanted to talk to me up front. I figured it was some guys from one of my classes; Evan always kidded about `the gentlemen you go to school with' and stuff like that. When I got up front a guy, probably in his 30s, came over. He was dressed in khakis and a dark blue polo with U.S.S.L. embroidered on one side. How informal I said to myself.

"Mr. Kregard Silnorra, could my partner and I have a minute of your time?" the man said, flashing a badge, Ryan Danvers -- Field Agent, it read.

"I'm on the clock, I might get in trouble, and I can't afford to lose this job" I said quickly. Evan walked up just then.

"Everything alright, Kreg?" he asked.

"We'd like to have a chat with Mr. Silnorra, if you can spare him for a minute, no longer than five" Agent Danvers said.

"Sure. I'll watch the desk while you sort that out Kreg" he said. I reluctantly walked with the two guys outside and away from the door, my stomach felt like I had rodents inside me crawling around.

"Mind if I call you Kreg?" Danvers asked. I shrugged.

"So, Kreg, are you aware of what your dad did for a living?" he asked.

"Yeah, he was a garbage man. Is that illegal now or something? I asked back, I didn't like where this was headed.

"He wasn't exactly a garbage man" Danvers said.

"No, technically he drove a shredder truck. They went around and shredded stuff for big companies. But bottom line -- still a garbage man" I said. My stomach turned again.

"Did you ever see him bring papers home?" the other agent asked.

"No, it was against company rules. If he found anything, it was to be immediately shredded when it showed up. I remember him telling me that one time" I told him using my wide frightened eyes.

"Did you ever see him with any large sums of money" Danvers asked. I burst out in genuine laughter.

"I was on the free lunch program at school. If he had any large sums of money, then he was sure a sadistic asshole" I said, shaking my head -- that's exactly what he was, too, I said to myself.

Danvers and the other agent, Rivers, looked between each other and then back at me.

"Where did you suddenly get the money to pay off your loan?" Rivers asked.

"My mom left it for me before when they abandoned me. I have no idea where she got it. I figure maybe she and dad saved it up or something" I responded as if I were truly clueless. The money was left in my bedroom, she messaged me from Vanterra to let me know. The two looked at each other again.

"Let's go Charlie, he doesn't know anything" Danvers said.

"Thanks Kreg, we may be in touch again" he said. They walked away and I quickly went back in to take my place at the checkout desk.

"What was that about?" Evan asked.

"Not sure" I lied, "They asked a bunch of questions about my mom and dad having `large sums of money' and stuff like that" I told him.

"You think your folks were doing something illegal?" he asked.

"No idea. But then, as you see, I'm here where they left me, and they are on Vanterra." Evan slapped my shoulder and wrinkled his nose a little and walked away. I didn't have to sniff my pits to smell my own musk; my nerves were shot, and I'd been letting off stress odors, but I thought I put on a good performance. I pulled my phone out and texted Mark "DQ/Hwy28/6:15". A minute later I got a single letter response, "K".

The rest of my four-hour shift seemed to drag on forever. I finally punched out and hopped on my bike. I texted Rav and let him know I'd be home a little late, not to worry and to tell `mom' that I was having dinner with Mark. I headed for the Dairy Queen close to Mark's work. I got there about five minutes before he pulled up. I got up off the curb where I'd been waiting and met him at the Jeep and sat my phone down on the dash. He pulled his out of his pocket and sat it beside mine and we went inside. We ordered and over dinner I told him all about my visit and what I'd told them. He said he'd had a visit yesterday and he'd told them pretty much the same. He laughed when I told him about telling them I had gotten free lunches at school. The sad thing was, that part was true. After we finished dinner and I retrieved my iPhone from his Jeep, we parted ways, and I speedily made my way back home.

I was shocked when I glanced through the window and saw Rav helping with the dishes. Gods, am I actually a good influence on him? I walked in. I didn't knock anymore. They kept telling me to consider myself part of the family, so I was doing my best.

"Oh, hey Kreg, how's Mark?" Kathy asked.

"He's good" I said.

"Any news about him and Grexl?" she pried.

"No, we didn't really talk about that" I said. She nodded and started putting the dishes away.

"I see you've turned over a new leaf Ravan" I kidded my husky. He shrugged.

"Well, I started thinking about what you said...you know...about appreciating what I have..." he said. I winked at him. Behind his back Kathy mouthed `Thank you' with a prayerful hand gesture.

"Give us just a sec and I'll be ready to go up" Rav said.

I waited until they'd put away all the dishes and wiped down the counters, then Rav and I said our goodnights and went outside. I stopped at his car and turned my phone off.

"Let's leave the phones out here, at least until we've talked" I said. He pulled his out of his pocket, turned it off and dropped it on the seat with mine. We climbed the steps and shut and locked the door -- this time not for horny reasons.

"I want to tell you a lot of things, things I don't want listening phones to hear" I said, then proceeded to go through the entire story up to earlier in the day.

"So, you really are rich?" he asked.

"Yes and no" I said, "I mean it exists...but...if I spend any of it, they'll know immediately something is up and everything goes fuckwise at that point."

"So, you're paper rich" he said. I gave him a funny look. "You're only rich on paper" he verified.

"That's a good phrase -- paper rich" I said. "But...someday..."

"Where is the money?" Ravan asked.

"Safe, and the less you know, the safer you are" I told him, "And don't say anything about this to anybody, especially Mark. I kind of promised him I wouldn't tell anybody. Let me break it to him first" he nodded in understanding.

We pulled into the driveway Monday after classes and Danny ran out to tell me I had mail. I wondered what kind of mail I could have, I'd only given this address to Evan and Mark. He handed me the padded envelope addressed to Kregard Paul Silnorra. I looked at the return address -- Vanterran Embassy New York, NY. I used a nail to rip it open and pulled out two pieces of paper and a booklet.

Dear Kregard Paul Silnorra:

At the request of your mother, we are sending your Restarran passport and certificate of live birth. As you may or may not know, any being with at least one Restarran parent is automatically a citizen of Restarra. Further, due to agreements between the United States and Restarra, you are a dual citizen of Restarra and the United States on Earth. Should you wish to come to Vanterra, just present this passport when you buy you ticket.

We wish you well,

Sincerely,

Frejerglazl Grastona

Vanterran Ambassador to Earth, North America, United States, Eastern Division

"Well, if we want to go to Vanterra, I'm all set" I told Rav, very unexcitedly. I doubted I'd ever waste the money to go to a place where I knew 90% of the planet would hate me. All Rav could say was: "Paul"

"Named after both my grandfathers" I explained. He nodded -- "Strangely enough, me too" Rav said.

"What's your middle name?" I asked.

"Ravan" he answered.

"Oh, then what's your first name?" I pried.

"Let's leave that for another time" he said, "like when the sun burns out."

"Okay" I said and let it go but made a note to talk to Kathy during dish duty tonight.

I texted Mark and told him about the latest. He said not to throw anything away, keep the envelope and all. Of course, he wouldn't elaborate over the phone, and I didn't press the matter.

We had a surprise tonight. Kathy had been too busy to cook so she ordered pizzas. There were no dishes, so I didn't get a chance to interrogate her about Rav's first name. We sat down with Kris to watch some football game he was into. During one of the commercial breaks, Rav went to the bathroom and while he was out, I told Kris about getting my passport and Rav telling me we were both named after our grandfathers and asked him what Rav's first name was. I giggled when he told me.

"Don't give him too much grief about it" he said. I laughed again.

"No promises" I told him. Rav came back and sat by me. He looked bored with the game, and I really didn't care anything whatsoever about football, so after a few more minutes, we said our goodnights and went to Rav's room.

Once inside we each got our books and laid on the bed to read and get ready for the Psych class in the morning, plus I had a few other things I needed to review. Rav was almost too smart to need to study, but he still liked to review the material. We'd been there for a long while and I glanced at the clock and saw it was already 10 o'clock.

"We need to shut it down and get some sleep" I said yawning.

"Sure, anything you say Paul" he said sarcastically. I ignored him and he went on, "You kind of look like a Paul, I may start calling you that permanently."

"That's fine, if that's what you want to do," I said, "after I have your legs pinned behind your ears, I'm thinking I may start calling you Francis."

He blushed and sputtered, "Who told you?" I made the motion of locking my lips and throwing away the key.

"So, what do you say, Francis? Are we switching names?" I asked, my voice full of mirth.

"You know, I think I prefer Kreg and Rav, don't you?" he said meekly.

"Yeah, let's just leave it there" I said. "I'll only call you Francis when I'm nailing your furry ass."

The two Liason's agents keep popping up. They've been here ever since mom and dad fled to Vanterra. I've made a point of not even using my so-called legit money in my account except to pay Kris and Kathy. They didn't want me to pay rent so I told them I at least should be allowed to help with groceries and utilities and convinced them to take something. If they were watching my account all they'd see is `rent' going to the Vargellas, my motorcycle insurance, debit charges for gas and deposits from the bookstore job. Right now, we were in Finals week and I didn't have much attention to spare for them. I was not at the level I wanted to be in one of my core courses, so all I was doing is cramming, trying to make sure I got as good a grade as I could. I help Rav with his hard class, and he helped me study for mine. We forgot about intimacy for days and days.

By the time our last finals were turned in, we were both exhausted. We waited for the grades to be posted. I passed the test I was worried most about, getting 97%, and Rav aced his -- perfect score. In celebration, I took the whole family out to eat. Kris recommended an authentic Vanterran place in the loft district. I wasn't sure what to order, I deferred to Kris to order for me.

"The plate (if you could call it that, it was more of a platter) was filled with a huge steak and an assortment of unfamiliar vegetables. Unfamiliar excluding the purple stuff that he knew I liked. Everything was very tasty -- and very expensive. Dinner for the five of us set me back about $400 including the tip. Kris said they would help on the bill, but there was no way -- they were here on my invitation.

After dinner we went looking at Christmas lights, even though it was only the second week of the month, there gorgeous displays of Christmas cheer everywhere. We had to stop at a couple of stores, Kathy was wanting to do some Christmas shopping. She peeled Rav off the group to help her carry packages. Kris and Danny got caught up in a video game store. Hoping I had time, I went to the jewelry store.

I just sat on a bench, thinking about how grateful I was for what I had now. I was much happier now than I'd been since I was a small child. After a while, they all made their way back and we went home. Danny didn't even look too upset when me and Rav held hands on the way home.
