A Mulligan?a do-over! How many chances does one get to do it right? I was given the gift of Hank's forgiveness, and I am resolved never to make that mistake again. Waking up next to Hank, well, there are no words?.
The rest of the week went by quickly. The fittings and make up trials went off without a hitch. Jordy and Jon recruited a couple of college students for the assignment, nice boys, Terry and Jerry, twins, 19 year old jocks, decent looking. No word from Chase. Hank tried to call him a couple of times, no answer.
The funeral home called, Roberta's ashes would be ready for pick up on Monday. That gave me the weekend to plan the trip to Waukegan and to decide what kind of service, if any, we should have. Jordy is going to be no help, which I kinda understand, but it pisses me off at the same time.
I told Hank I was going to have Jordy and Jon over on Saturday, using the photo shoot for HSC as an excuse, but I really was going to hit him hard to take some responsibility in the arrangements for his mother. Hank said he thought that was not such a good idea. I asked him, "What would you do if it were your dad?" "That's different." he replied. "How?" "He beat your ass frequently, he threw you out of the house and when you called him to let him know you were alright, he basically blew you off."
Hank just stared at me. "You don't get it, do you Mike?" "Yes, Dad kicked my ass regularly, but he never made me do anything sexual." "When Mother was alive, he was good to me, I know it was her influence." "After my sister died, he changed and then losing Mother was more than he could bear." "Next, catching his son having his dick sucked by another guy?what do you expect from a basically homophobic man from southern Illinois?"
"I don't hate my dad, Jordy hates his mother, that is the difference." "I feel in time, after Dad sees my success, when I am enrolled in college, graduate, etc. he may change." "I don't know." "When you took me in to help me, showing me a love I hadn't felt since Mother died, well, that softened my heart and my view of Dad." "I don't think Jordy will ever have any feeling for Roberta other than contempt."
I said he was probably right and maybe I should handle the arrangements myself. "Sam and Lucas said they would go with us to Waukegan." "I suppose we will have to wait until your assignment with HSC is completed." "I just hate the thought of having her ashes in the house for that long." Hank laughed, "Are you afraid she will come back and haunt you?" "Fuck you!" I said.
"Solution?take the urn over to Jordy's house, it will not be ready to put on the market for a while yet." Hank said. "Good idea!" I replied. "Now, about that fucking?" Hank said. "What are you talking about" I asked. "You are the one who said 'fuck you', so let's get to it." "Come on, you little smart ass." I said as I grabbed his hand and started for the bedroom.
Seems more often than not, we forget to eat, fuck our brains out, fall asleep, then wake up ravenous. In the kitchen looking for something to eat, "We need some quick meals to fix, maybe we should cook tomorrow, lots of different things, freeze them in packets so that we can take one out of the freezer on occasions like this." Hank agreed. "Let's make a list." he said.
The weekend went by all too fast. Hank took the train in with me. He and Jordy would be at HSC, starting the photo shoot for the cover of HSC's fall catalogue. I could not be there with him until later, but I felt comfortable letting him go by himself. The threat of Jordy coming on to him was now resolved. Hank was excited. I kissed him and wished him good luck as he boarded a bus to get to HSC HQ.
After taking care of a lot of unfinished business, I left to go to HSC to watch Hank being photographed. I was in awe of the place, sports equipment, clothing of all kinds everywhere, especially the lobby. Even the receptionist was dressed in athletic wear. I was taken back to the studio where Hank was working.
Jordy was adjusting the lighting, when the saw me, smiled and waved. There were 3 people working on Hank, make up, hair stylist, etc. Hank had on a blue wrestling singlet, not yet over the arms and shoulders, with a young man reaching down towards the crotch. WTF! I motioned for Jordy to come over to me. "What the hell is going on there, is that guy a 'fluffier' trying to get Hank hard?" I asked.
Jordy started laughing. "No, he is smoothing out the tissue like material they place inside the singlet so that the outline of his penis is not showing." "This after all, is a layout aimed at high schools, nothing sexual like a cock showing through the material." "The finished look is much like a toy male doll, a slight bulge, but no cock head image."
I said I thought the guy was spending a little too much time rubbing Hank's crotch. Jordy just shook his head, "Relax, Mike, these are all professionals." "While we are waiting do you want to see what we have done so far?" I said I did. We walked over to a computer, Jordy brought up the images he had already taken. I was overwhelmed. The images were breathtaking.
"It is going to be hard to choose just one photo to be on the cover." I said. Jordy replied, "I have an idea to run by Luis, a large close up of Hank's face which will show those eyes, then small ovals around of him in various sports attire, all overlapping artistically." "Here, let me show you with some images, not the final product, but you'll get the idea."
He brought up an image of his idea. It reminded me of a teenage girl's collage of her boyfriend, lots of pictures overlapping, with photos of sports equipment to fill in gaps. On the very bottom, left side was the HSC logo. "This is going to be a hard sell to Luis, he will want the logo in large print at the top of the page, but this (pointing to the smaller logo) is going to let Hank be the center of attention and ultimately sell the product."
"Jordy, you are a genius, I have never seen anything like this, ever, so original." I said. Jordy beamed at the compliment. Hank was now ready for Jordy to begin this session. I looked directly at Hank's crotch and yes there was a bulge, but no outline of the penis could be detected. He had on the protective headgear, and high topped wrestling shoes. Jordy was calling out instructions as he shot hundreds of photos.
After this session was over, Jordy said that was it for the day. Hank rushed over to me, hugged me, "This has been the most fun, hard work, but fun." "I am starving." Jordy told him they would be shooting location shots on Thursday. "I asked about the other boys. He said he would be working with them on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then all of them on Thursday and Friday, on location at a local high school and community college.
Hank went to change, reminding me he was hungry. We said our goodbyes to Jordy and the staff. The guy who was doing the smoothing winked at Hank. As we walked out, i told Hank I thought that guy was hot for him. "I think he was getting off rubbing your crotch." "You noticed that, too?" Hank said. "I told him if he touched my dick and balls again, I was going to knock him on his ass." "His name is Marco, generally a nice guy, but he definitely is a little aggressive in the smoothing department, but I think I made myself clear."
Hank said, If everything went well and Luis and his staff approved the photos, the assignment would probably be over by a week from Friday. "My goodness, they have a huge staff just for the photo work alone, you should have Luis give you a tour next week." "Maybe even get your dick sucked, too!" "What?" "Is he gay, too?" I asked. Hank said he thought so, he was in the staging area as I was being dressed, made up, etc. "He had his eyes directly focused on my naked body, almost drooling."
"Shit!" "I am going to cancel everything next week so I can be here with you to fend off these mother fuckers." Hank just howled. "I can handle myself?actually it is quite an ego builder having so many lusting after me, guys and gals." "Ok, ok, let's change the subject before that green eyed monster shows up again!" I said. Hank stopped dead in his tracks, "Mike, no one and I mean no one, is going to turn my head away from you and what we have." "I only want you, I love only you."
We took a bus over to Union Station. I suggested a deli near by, great pastrami sandwiches. Hank said he had never had pastrami, but when I told him it was similar to corned beef in taste, only spicier, he said he would try it. He loved it, said it was definitely better that corned beef. After eating our fill, we got on the train home. I could barely keep my hands off him.
Time seems to fly by these days. Before you knew it, the principal photography was done, approvals made by HSC, layouts completed and sent to the publisher. I could not wait to see the finished product. My gorgeous boy was going to be a super star. In the meantime, I had made arrangements to take Roberta's ashes to Waukegan. I did tell Jordy about the arrangements and once again, asked him to come with us.
On the day we scheduled our trip to the cemetery, Jordy showed up at my house with Jon. I was surprised, but held my tongue and just hugged him. We all drove in Jon's SUV. I asked Jon to drop by a florist to pick up some roses for my family and for Roberts, a single rose for each. I wanted to be respectful, but at the same time not so sentimental, so I chose a few lines from a Navaho prayer:
Life is not over, but begins anew, With courage you must greet the coming years. To live forever in the past is wrong; It can only cause you misery and pain. Dwell not on memories overlong.
I offered Jordy the chance to hand the ashes to the funeral director, but he shook his head, no. He had tears in his eyes, then turned away. We said goodbye to the funeral director and his staff, then left. After putting roses on my family graves, we left to get something to eat and make the drive home.
It was quiet in the SUV on the way home. I was reflecting on my losses and the wonderful life I had lived because of my aunt and uncle. I reflected on my current life with this most amazing young man and suddenly, I smiled, all was good.
Epilogue:
Hank's modeling career blossomed. He stays busy, but still makes time to attend college, is about to graduate, then on to law school. He is contact with his father. Their relationship is pleasant, but guarded.
Sam and Lucas are still together, Lukas is working with Jon's father. He no longer models, but manages all our finances and is making us all very comfortable.
Sam, Bryan and I formed our own law practice, mostly representing people in the entertainment business. Bryan is our chief negotiator and as always is ruthless. Sam handles the business side of the practice, and I take everything else, along with 2 other eager, young lawyers assisting me.
Jordy still does fashion layouts, is in high demand for his photographic genius. He published a 'coffee table' book featuring lush landscapes with tasteful nude images, male and female?mostly male, nothing overtly sexual. A best seller! He and Jon are married. They travel the world, scouting sites for their next venture in publishing.
Chase Roberts, never heard of again. We saw a porn video once, both Hank and I think he was the power bottom, but were not sure, couldn't get a good look at his face and of course the credited name was not Chase Roberts. Sad.
Hank and I remain as committed to each other as we ever were. No need for any more Mulligans. We are supremely happy and to think, all this happened because I had the courage to talk to and help a Homeless Boy!
Well, that is it for Homeless Boy. I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hated to end the story, as I had become quite attached to the characters. I like 'happy ever after endings', even if sometimes in reality, that doesn't happen. In my world it does! A reminder, PLEASE DONATE TO NIFTY. SMILE!
