This is Donte' speaking, and this is my first story here on nifty, and the first story I have ever written in this genre. It is loosely based on true events up to a certain point; everything that happens after this initial chapter is purely fiction. Feedback will be greatly appreciated, and I can be contacted at yungin060@yahoo.com. Enjoy.
Chapter 1: "our History together"
He wasn't like the other boys at school, at least not in my eyes. He was different in a way I couldn't explain. Well, I could try. His best asset had to be his smile, everyone agreed on that. He had the most perfect teeth, and I don't even pay attention to teeth that much, sitting behind the best pair of lips on any other boy in my class. And handsome wasn't enough to describe his face; it was a unique kind of striking appearance that you had to look twice at, even if you were straight. At first I couldn't tell what his nationality was; maybe Cuban, Ecuadorian, Dominican, African American, or even some kind of south Asian. His skin was dark, about the same complexion as mine, maybe a little darker, and I'm full African American. I knew he had some type of exotic charm to him that made him even more attractive. My name is Derek; I'm actually not a bad looking young man. Pretty tall, nicely toned and slim, a bit on the attractive side, senior in high school. I'd never ever had a crush on a boy before, but I knew that I was attracted to them. I've always been homo-sexual, well for as long as I can remember. I've had a couple of girlfriends, if you would even call it that, but none of them were good enough to mention, so you could say that I'm bi-sexual. They were just petty puppy love relationships that lasted less than a weak. I wasn't sure what this guys name was...I think it started with an H though. It wasn't until half of the year had gone by that I realized how handsome he was....yea it definitely took a while. But my class was huge; it was history class and there were atleast 25 other people there. Everyone was in their own little group so we didn't interact much with people outside of our circle of friends. One day, one beautiful day, Ms. Verona gave us an assignment, and for that assignment, we had to pair up in groups. "Yes"! I whispered under my breath. I was happy because I wanted to pair up with either of my 3 best friends in the class; Hilda, one of my good friends I've known since 1st grade, Andrew, or just Drew, the most popular white kid in the whole school, or Sandra, who seems to be on the tip of every guys tongue, if you know what I mean. But then Ms. Verona dropped the bomb; we would be working with a single random person.
Everyone in the class whined. It wasn't so bad for me, I like working with new people. Ms. Verona went to her desk and started writing something down on her sheet. "Okay, Manny you're with Sandra, Carlos is with Frank, Shanell is with Cassandra, Hilda you're working with Anderson".... "Crap...now there's no way I'll get to work with any of my friends". "Derek, you're working with......Jarred", Ms. Verona continued. Hilda rudely interrupted, like she always does, "Jarred ain't even here Verona". Jared and I were cool, but he wasn't all that good looking. He made up for it with his funny personality though. "Oh, alright then. You'll work with Henry, if you're both okay with that". I looked around the classroom, trying to figure out who this guy was, then I caught his eye. It was him....HIM. The only guy I've ever dreamed about, and I didn't even know his name until now. The problem was, he didn't seem too happy about our paring up. "Okay, I don't mind", I said. "Yea sure, whatever", he replied. "Good, so Grace, you're with Katherine, Tierra with......" We all started to change seats once our partners were called out. I deliberately moved next to Henry, who sat in the far corner of the class, so I could sit near Hilda and Anderson. Henry moved his desk over to face me. "Wats up"? I said, trying to be polite and hide my nervousness at the same time. "Hey, what's your name again"? He asked. I sat there for a second, a little hurt that he hadn't known my name either. "I'm Derek", I finally said after he stared at me for a few long seconds. "Henry, nice to meet'ya", he replied. He stuck his hand out and we shook. I trembled a little when his hand touched mine, I think he might've felt it. His hand was so smooth and soft, yet firm and strong at the same time. He seemed a little more polite since we got acquainted. "You know what we're supposed to do"? He asked. I fumbled through my notebook and pulled out a sheet that we got last week. "Yea, we have to make a poster pertaining to the chapter we just read, and we have to include ourselves in the picture". He looked at me as if I had a giant stupid sign on my face, then he busted out laughing. "Really, damn I hate these projects. I just got back and I don't even know what's going on". I kind of snickered too and asked, "really, where have you been"? "I'm part of the VSLA, don't ask me what that stands for, and we have to travel to different cities every few months to compete in these tournaments. "Wow, that sounds cool, so you're really smart I guess"? "Nah, my grades are average, but the teachers love me.
That's why I pass everything. The tournaments are about drawing, or art. I know it's stupid, but I'm good at it". "I don't think that's stupid, and it's a good thing you can draw, cause I can't even write my name neatly". He laughed again, showing his beautiful smile. I could watch him all day long. "Yea right, I guess I'll just do the drawing and you'll....." "I can do everything else, don't worry. I'm really good at research and ideas so, we'll make the perfect match". He smiled at me, I think this guy is really warming up to me, and that's making me feel a lot more comfortable. Before I could say another word, the bell rung and everyone zoomed out of the door. "Hey Henry, the project is due next week, so why don't you give me your e-mail address or something so we can start working on it early". He walked back over to me and wrote it down on a paper he pulled out of his pocket, then handed it to me. "Call me", he said. I looked at the paper, and to my surprise, he had given me his phone number. He flashed that million dollar smile again, but I'm not sure if he was doing it to me, or the girl behind me, because she walked to him and they left arm-in-arm. I just stood there in a daze until Hilda bumped into me.
Since Hilda weighed more than I did, and I was clumsy, she almost knocked me into the wall. "Come on slowpoke", she said. "Okay I'm coming". As we walked down the hall together, she leaned over to me and whispered, "I know who has a crush on who"
That's it for chapter one, I promise every following chapter will be longer, and the next will be posted in a couple days. Remember, feedback keeps me motivated. Tell me what you like or dislike. yungin060@yahoo.com,
