That day started out like a fairytale. We had decided not to spend the day inside despite the brisk fall air. My bike easily carried both of us with Logan's arms wrapped around my waist as we headed for Pisgah national park only an hour away from the campus. Once I had locked Ebony up and chained the bike to a tree in the parking lot, we headed down the trails joking and carrying on with a soft sided cooler slung over Logan's shoulders bearing our lunch. We splashed through the creeks and took selfies at the waterfalls. Tried to copy birdcalls and I was more than wide eyed at seeing a doe and her nearly grown fawn though Logan beat a hasty retreat not wanting to deal with anymore deer for a while. By lunch we were damp, tired, and happy. I leaned on his shoulder while he pulled out the food. "Logan? Did you really mean it when you said you would ask your dad if I could stay with you this fall?" It had been on my mind, I did not want to go home and deal with father dearest or his stories. Likely he had mom believing them already and I had no idea who my sister believed though I knew she had sent me a few pics via text of the Indian chief being repaired. Logan did not even hesitate, pushing the bottle of water and sandwiches into my hands. "Patrick, I really meant it. Dad knows I'm bi okay. And that I've been seeing you. Hell, he keeps asking when he can meet you. He says you saved my life you know? One hell of a way to meet your lover huh?" He laughed and I could not help but smile at those bright emerald eyes flashing in the sun and the infectious laugh, stealing a kiss quickly before sitting back and taking a bite of my food. Logan seemed surprised and stopped mid-laugh, blinking a few times before he pulled out his phone and I heard the click of the camera app. "Logan! I'm filthy! We've been traipsing the woods all morning!" "Bah, you are rugged. Now eat. I have reception so I'm going to make a call." "right now?" He had to be joking, some part of me did not think he really would ask his dad. Another part said he was being a dunce and could easily ask after we had lunch. Logan just grinned. "Siri call Dad Cell." "Calling Dad Cell" the robotic voice responded, and the phone started to ring. I almost went to grab it, but Logan pulled it up away and to his ear. "Hey dad. Quick question, we have anyone staying in the cabin this fall and winter? No? good, I've got someone from college who needs a place to stay during winter break. His folks are being real piss-ants about his coming out and all... yes father... yes father... no father... DAD! You. Just... Don...Okay. Okay. See you then." Logan hung the phone up and took a healthy bite of the sandwich, his cheeks dark and he just looked at his water bottle while I stared at him. My heart was racing, what had his dad said? Did he tell him no? what would I do? "Logan?!" "Hmm? What Pat?" "what did he say?" ~~~~Logan~~~~ I knew I was milking it for all it was worth. Pat's expressions were adorable as he worked through them and I finally relented even though I had the thought of throwing him back into the grass and having a bit of fun. However, we were in public on a walking trail and I knew at any moment another hiker or some kids could appear. "Dad said he would love to meet you and he expects us to stay in different rooms while you are there. And we'll have to earn our keep at the stables. But yea, you'll have a place to crash." Pat looked so relieved I thought he'd fall over. Maybe I had strung him along a bit much on that one. He did quirk an eyebrow almost like a famous Vulcan, however. "what was it he said that made you yell at him? I would be terrified of raising my voice at my father." "Oh. He just said to make sure we were using condoms..." Not something I wanted to talk about with my father of course. Though I suppose it could be worse. I just grinned at Patrick a moment and nodded to his lunch as I heard a rowdy bunch coming down the trail. "Eat up, we've got a hike back after all." "True enough. Thanks Logan. Not just for the place to stay." I was about to say something when a pebble knocked me on the back of the head. Turning around I saw four teens who could not be out of high school yet laughing and carrying on. One yelling at us. "Hey Fags! You gonna kiss next?"
