To Stephanie
The girls decided to take Baily's car to Tally's house and leave Tally's car in the school parking lot. After all, the little sports car Baily drove got a lot more gas mileage.
"How much did this thing cost?" Tally asked, her curiosity about the car having grown since she had driven it that fateful night two weeks ago.
"I don't know really. My parents paid for it." Baily had put on a dark pair of sunglasses and let her hair out of its bun, allowing it to wave in the wind of the topless car. Tally couldn't keep her eyes off of her. It was the first time Tally had seen Baily in a skirt...and oh what a time to see one on the gorgeous blonde. The wind whipped at it, pulling it further and further up her tan legs. Tally knew she shouldn't look, shouldn't put herself through the agony of knowing intimately what she couldn't have, but her eyes were drawn to Baily's tan flesh.
"What's wrong, you've been awfully quiet," Baily inquired. Tally looked up quickly so as to not let the other girl know she had been staring.
"Nothin', just thinking," Tally blushed to the roots of her brown hair. If only Baily knew what she had been thinking about! She had to put a stop to this.
"So how have things been with you and your boyfriend?" Tally was determined to distance herself from Baily, no matter how much she hurt herself in the process. If this pain could help her stop wanting Baily, then she would just have to make that sacrifice.
"What do you mean? I don't have a boyfriend," Baily said guiltily, glancing at Tally from behind her mirrored shades. She didn't know how Tally had found out about Brad, but thoughts kept running through her head of how the other girl must look at her. Great, if she thought I was a slut before...now wait, she doesn't think you're a slut. She's proven that. Come on Baily, get a grip! The thoughts poured through Baily's head like a waterfall; powerfully, with constant motion.
"Oh come on, I saw you kissing Brad just earlier today," Tally tried to inflect girly enthusiasm into her voice, but in her heart she couldn't find a way to celebrate with Baily over her successful dating skills. How could she, when in her heart she would rather it be she that was kissing the other girl than anyone else. She couldn't seem to control her thoughts.
When Baily finally pulled up to Tally's driveway, she was surprised to see police cars parked on the lot. She looked over at Tally, whose face had gone white as a sheet.
Looking through the window of the police car, Tally could see the outline of her mother.
