"After you," Chad's hand paves the way for Alex to enter the elevator.

"Thanks," Alex says very mildly, with little enthusiasm. Then putting his hand between the door, catching it from closing, "Oh wait! What about Swifty?"

"Watch it!" Chad pulls on Alex's arm when the door takes Alex along with it.

Alex says in relief, "Oh man," he sighs with relief. "I thought these doors were meant to respond to pressure when closing."

Then, with his hand still on Alex's bicep, Chad drops it quickly, saying, "Sorry. I...."

"It's okay. I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it." Then hastily changing the subject, "I guess Swifty knows his way around and will find his way back to the waiting room."

"It's the impression I've gotten," Chad replies.

It seemed the elevator moved at a snail's pace, time standing quietly still for an interval.

"How long have you and Kyle been together?" And with another period of silence, Chad says, "I guess you don't feel like talking."

Realizing he wasn't being too sociable, Alex gives a delayed response, "Not long. Since around the time I`ve graduated from high school. "Um, how long have you and Jake been together?"

"We met in eleventh grade. We were together right up until two days ago."

"What?" Alex exclaimed, "But you told Peter...."

"I know. I lied," Chad explained. "I couldn't bring myself to tell Peter we broke up. Peter really liked Jake."

"Well I'm sorry," Alex replies. "I suppose Jake coming to see Peter every time you were here, made them close."

"Yes it did, but..."

Even though Alex was in a hurry to get back to the waiting room, he sensed an uneasiness side of Chad and it wasn`t part of his nature to ignore another human beings grief. As the door opened, the two left, Alex asking, "Do you want to talk about it?"

"You better check on Kyle."

Coming to the waiting room, Alex invites, "You can come in if you want to?"

Right now Chad was feeling hurt, not that he wasn't yesterday when Jake abruptly ended their relationship. For the most part he didn't wish to intrude on Alex's privacy, but at the same time felt compelled to hang around. "Maybe for a little while."

This time it was Alex doing the ushering.

"Oh shit Alex!" Michael said, standing and holding a hand to his chest.

"What's wrong?" Alex's thoughts immediately went to Kyle.

"Nothing," Michael replies, "I just thought when you walked in that door... I thought it was Kyle with you!"

Relieved at least it wasn't bad news, Alex stepped aside to present, "Oh, is that all? Whew Michael," Alex launched his hand to his left pec, "I thought.. You know what I thought!" Then, since all eyes were glued to the guy whom accompanied him, "Guys, this is Chad."

While Michael and Scotty introduced himself, Alex scanned the room. "Vince and Jorgen... they leave?"

Scotty informs him, "They went out for lunch and never came back."

"And Geoff," Michael tells him, "he had some business to attend to." He also adds, "Did you know Geoff is head of security for Karlysle's house?"

Alex knew Michael meant the whole estate, but didn't press the issue. Instead, "I didn't know that."

"Yeah and he and Swifty are going to be there next weekend. He invited Scotty and me."

"But I already invited you," Alex said.

Scotty intervenes, "Yeah. We know, but we didn't tell Geoff you did and said `yes' to make him feel good."

"Oh," Alex replies. "I guess no harm in doing that. Probably a good idea."

"Who is Carlisle?" Chad asks.

He didn't find out from Alex, because as he asked it Dr. Azayzeh walked in, pushing Asaf in the handicapped chair.

"Any word on Kyle?" he greeted the doc.

"They should be sewing him up by now," he replies.

Lifting a tray up, Asaf offers, "Here guys. This is for you, from Mohamed and myself."

"Here, let me help you," Mohamed replies, bending down from behind the chair, his chest causing Asaf's head to bob forwards as he takes the tray.

"Cool!" Michael is the first to respond, taking one of the sealed sandwiches and a pint of milk.

"Thanks," Scotty replies after helping himself.

"Alex?"

"Nah. I'm not hungry."

"And you are?" Dr. Azayzeh asks Chad.

"Oh, I'm Chad Monteith," and feeling obligated to say, "my little brother is up in the children's cancer wing." He waves his hand like saying goodbye, "No thanks. I'm trying to drop some pounds."

"No way," Michael replies, "you can't be more than a 34 waist!"

Scotty nudges his boyfriend.

"What?"

"Never mind," Scotty says, knowing Michael was checking Chad out. But he wasn't too hasty to criticize, being he was doing the same!

"Well I'm just not hungry right now." And to dispel any other questions, Chad addresses Alex, "So Kyle will be in the recovery room soon?"

"What about it, Dr. Azayzeh?" Alex confronts the doctor.

"Please," he replies, "call me Mohamed and yes, he should be on his way out of the O.R. very soon."

And then, anxiously, "When can I see him?"

"About an hour so afterwards. It depends on the person and how fast they respond."

By the time Mohamed and Alex finished their chat, Michael and Scotty had engaged Chad in conversation.

"You know, you are the spitting image of Kyle?"

"So Alex says."

Then the conversation quickly progressed to how Alex met Chad and then on to Chad's brother, Peter.

"Hear that guys?" Alex interrupts. "I'll be seeing Kyle soon."

"Great," the guys were glad to hear, Michael opening his big mouth and saying, "Did you hear what Chad said about his boyfriend?"

"They broke up," Alex replied.

Michael exposes, "Did you hear how?"

"No."

"I was going to, but..." Chad replies.

But Michael is right on it, "What an asshole... His boyfriend told him either he moves to France with him or he's going alone."

"And?" Alex didn't get the connection.

"Alex," Chad replies, "I can't go off and leave Peter!"

And spelling it all out, Alex gathers, "So it was a choice. Peter or Jake, huh?"

It was time for Chad's eyes to fill up as he replies, "I really love Jake, but... I love Peter more, I suppose. I can't leave him."

Alex then shares Michael's opinion, "What an asshole!"

"Oh shit!"

Even though crunched for space, Jordan pulled on Adam's shoulders as he himself squatted in the closet when gunshots rang out.

"What are you doing?" Adam asks.

"Praying?" Jordan replies.

"But you don't even go to church!"

With the second, third and fourth volley of shots fired, Adam joined in reciting a verse he had learned as a little boy, from mass.

Then silence following they waited until they heard pounding and someone yelling, "Hey! If there's anybody in there, this is the police. You can come out now. The coast is clear." And he repeated almost the same message.

"What do you think?" Jordan asks his younger brother.

"I'm kind of wedged in here, but if I can grab the bar," the one a few clothes still hung on.

"I've got it!" Jordan says after heeding to Adam's suggestion. "Good idea," he awards his bro after hoisting himself up. "Owch!" he calls out when his head collides with the shelf above. "Um, watch your head."

But Adam was more concerned with, "Oh man," he half-joked, "I think you crushed my balls!"

Slowly Jordan opened the door and louder he heard, "Trust me," the officer replies, "we're the police and not those who were trying to get at you. If you don't believe me, look out the window."

Adam darted towards the window, taking his hands and separating the blind so there was a wide gap. "He's telling the truth. Look!"

Jogging to the window, Jordan pulled the whole blind aside. "It's David and Luigi!"

There, a flight down, stood the two perpetrators, hands cuffed behind their backs and being stuffed into the rear of a patrol car.

"C'mon. Give me a hand," Jordan said, the two hauling the furniture from the doorway.

It was Jordan swinging the door open and for a moment the two, Jordan and the cop, just stood there staring at each other.
