Chapter Two

I took Nick back to my loft and we talked some more. I got him to stay for a couple of days, I still wasn't sure if I was going to go back and be with him yet. But it was nice to have him here.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked before he took his shirt off.

"Not sure," I said as I watched him from the bed.

He dropped his pants and crawled on top of me and looked me in the eye just before he brushed a stray hair from my face. "Come on babe, I can smell the wood burning."

"How are the guys?" I asked.

"They're good, they miss you and nice subject change by the way," he said as a smile came across his face.

"I am sorry baby. I am just scared," I said and then looked downward.

"Babe, look at me. Caleb--look at me!" he said a little more sternly.

I looked up at him I saw a mixture of love and fire. "I love you--nothing is going to change that. No one is going to break us up or make you think that you being with me is harmful to my career. Ok?" he said as he never broke eye contact. I nodded. "I want to you hear you say it."

"Yes Nick," I smiled.

"Good," he said and then gave me a light kiss. "Now let's get some sleep."

I awoke to my doorbell ringing. I looked over at my alarm clock it was 9:30. I rolled out of bed and almost fell out but caught myself.

I padded across my loft to the door. I slid the heavy metal door open and there stood Manuela.

"Hi," she said meekly.

I looked at her and then looked over my shoulder.

"I should go," she said as she tried holding back her tears.

"No Manny," I said using her nickname from high school.

She stopped and looked at me. "You sure?"

"Yes, it's time I did some explaining anyway. Come in," I said as I stepped aside.

She walked into the loft and sat down on the couch. I slid the door closed and went to the couch. I started to talk when Nick came out of the bedroom.

"Hey babe I heard voices, anyone I..." he stopped when he saw Manuela.

She turned when she heard the voice. Her eyes widened when she realized who uttered them.

She stood, looked from me to him and then back to me. "It makes sense–his job, his bosses, his career. Nick Lachey?!"

"I'll give you a minute," he said and then walked back into the bedroom.

She turned her attention back to me. I knew there were a lot of questions shooting through her mind. "I am sorry for not telling you," I said and looked down at my hands. "I should have told you the truth when I told you about what happened in LA."

"I understand that's a big secret Caleb. I had no right to judge what you did. I obviously didn't have the facts," she said as she looked back toward the bedroom.

"So the rumors about him and Jessica aren't true?" she asked.

I didn't get a chance to answer, which is good, because I didn't know the answer. But the reason I didn't get to answer was because Nick came in and answered for me.

"No, they're not true. Only one person has the right to my heart and that person is sitting in front of you," he said as he sat next to me.

Manuela looks over at him. "So you love him?" she asked. He started to answer but she stopped him. "No, I mean with all of your heart. Because if he gets hurt..."

"Manny!" I said stopping her.

Nick looked down at me. "No it's ok. I understand. Caleb is my heart, my world; I have no intention of hurting him. or letting anyone for that matter."

"Good answer," Manuela and I said at the same time.

He smiled and looked at the two of us and then remembered something. "Oh yea!" he said as he moved to the edge of the couch. "The guys called while I was in the bedroom," he said as he looked at me.

"The guys... you mean the rest of 98*?" Manuela asked.

He looked over at her and nodded. "I told them that I found you and that I am staying with you. I tried to talk them out of it, but before I finished the call they had already booked the next available flight out here." The look on his face showed that he was just as nervous as I was.

"How do you think it's going to go?" I asked.

"Well, I didn't tell them where I was going or that a PI was hired to find you. I also haven't said much about you either. The one time I did, Jeff nearly tore my head off." He gave me a weak smile.

Jeff, I remember him. He's so fucking gorgeous, but he and I never really got along. The moment I started dating Nick he told everyone I was trouble. So when all the rumors started it only confirmed Jeff's theory. Then to add to that, I just up and left with out saying anything.

"Great," I said as I stood and walked to the window. I looked out over the city. It had started snowing since I woke up. I saw Nick's reflection as he came up from behind. I looked at us. My black hair and green eyes, his brown/blondish hair with sea water blue eyes. It reminded me of a picture I kept with me.

"Babe," he said while wrapping an arm around my shoulder. "It'll be ok. The rest of the guys miss you."

"I don't know," I said as I turned and looked up at him. "I just left babe. I didn't give you a reason," I said as I left his slight embrace. "When I told my best friend here..."I said as I pointed to Manuela, "...and she freaked at me. I can only wonder how they will react to seeing me again." I looked up at him. "When are they flying in?"

After showering, we got dressed and ate breakfast. It wasn't long afterwards that we were waiting at the airport terminal for the guys to get off the plane.

"Breathe babe," Nick said to me.

I let out a breath of air. "Thanks," I said as I smiled. "I didn't know I was doing that."

He laughed at me. "God, I've missed you so much," he whispered in my ear.

"Me too babe," I said as I tried not to pull him into my arms.

"Fuck it," he said as he pulled me against him. "I love you so much."

Someone cleared their throat. "Excuse me," a male voice said.

We pulled apart and I looked up to see something that didn't change with time--Jeff's look of disapproval.

"Hi Jeff," I mumbled.

He didn't say anything for a moment. I looked up at him; he gave me a smile and wrapped his arm around me. "Smile Caleb, it's good to see Nick smiling again," he said as he ruffled my hair.

"Where is he?" I heard Justin call out.

"I think Jeff's got him," Drew answered.

They ran over to where I was. "Hi guys," I said as I smiled at them.

They both pulled me into a hug. "You ever pull that shit again..." Drew said as he broke the hug and pushed me to arms length, "...I'll take you out, got that?" he asked as a serious look passed over his face. I nodded. "I want to hear you say it."

Gee that sounded familiar.

"I won't Drew," I said.

"Good, now take us to your home. I am like, mad tired," he said as he cracked a smile.

An hour later the guys were in my living room. Drew took over one of the couches and laid out. Jeff was sitting on the floor looking at me and Nick. Justin was sitting in the recliner. Nick slid his arms around my waist.

"How are you doing out here?" Jeff asked me.

"I am good. Just trying to stay out of the limelight. I also own a coffee shop, it's doing very well," I explained.

"Yea, he also named it after us," Nick added as he smiled.

"No kidding?" Justin asked.

I blushed. It was true, I did name the shop after the guys, but I thought I was clever enough so no one would get the connection.

"Aww isn't that sweet," Justin said.

I blushed and tried to change the subject. "So are you guys on holiday?" I asked.

"Yea," Drew said as he sat up and looked around. "We're taking a much needed break." He looked over at Nick for a second and a nervous look crossed his face.

I looked up at Nick and noticed the same look. I pulled away from him. "What's going on?" I asked as I looked back and forth from Drew to Nick.

"Nothing now isn't the time to bring it up," Nick said as he glared deeply at Drew.

"But..." Drew started but Nick cut him off.

"Drop it," Nick said with an edge in his voice. He looked down at me. "Everything is ok babe," he said and then kissed me on the forehead.

The guys were in town for a couple of days. So I decided to show them parts of the city that people who live here see, like tubing. In my opinion, it was the only reason to come outside in a Minnesotan winter.

Anyway, tubing, is like it sounds. You get a rubber inner tube and you slide down a huge hill.

"Tubing you say?" Jeff said with a nervous tone as he looked at the rest of the guys who had the same look on their faces.

"Come on guys it'll be fun," I said. "And don't give me that crap about people recognizing you because I know the guy who runs it and he said he'd shut the place down for us. So there's no reason to turn it down." I said in a tone to let them know that I wasn't backing down.

The guys looked from me to Nick. They tried to plead with him. "Hey guys, I think it'll be fun," he said as he smiled.

I heard the rest of guys groan as I started talking winterizing the guys. This was going to be fun.

"I am not so sure about this anymore," Nick said as he looked down the hill.

"You, big strong Nick, afraid of a lil hill?" I asked in a mocking tone.

"Not funny," he said while trying to be mad at me. "You know I am only here because of you," he smiled at me. Although I wasn't sure if he meant at the hill or in Minnesota period.

"Yea, cuz you love me," I said as I winked at him.

"You know that. Now come here and give me a kiss," he said as he put his arms out.

"Gotta catch me first," I said and then took off running down the hill.

Once the guys saw how easy it was they couldn't get enough of it. It was an afternoon of fun and it was great to be with the guys again. The guys have always accepted me into their fold and today just felt like old times. The best thing about the day was Nick and I being together. I missed him so much; I tried to block it out of my mind. But the moment his body came into contact with mine, I fell back into old habit.

And it seems so did Nick, he's always had this thing about my ass. Whenever we were close to each other, his hand would always come to rest on my ass. When we first met, it kinda bothered me but now I see it as a way of him showing his affection.

We stayed at the hill until it started to get dark and we were too wet from the snow. We all piled into the SUV which Nick had rented for the time here was here.

"So where to now?" Nick asked as he looked over at me.

I started to answer but Drew cut me off. "Somewhere warm I hope," he said in a whiny tone.

"I guess it's back to the loft," I said as I smiled at him.

"That's cool with me," he said and then started the engine.

Later that night I was sitting in the living room watching the guys destroy the second pizza of the evening. They were sitting in front of the TV watching sports-center. They were talking about the day and what was on TV.

While they were talking I got up, went into the bedroom, and sat on ledge in front of the window.

I don't know how long I was sitting there. I was watching the city move, the lights, and the people running through the snow. I loved living downtown.

"We saved you some pizza babe," Nick said as he walked over to me.

I looked up at him and moved so he could slide in behind me. He wrapped his arms around me. "I missed you," I said as I leaned back against his broad chest.

He squeezed me tighter. "Not as much as I did. It felt like something was missing babe."

"I know the feeling--I love you Nick."

"I love you too Caleb."
