Chapter 8: CrushcrushCrush
"A tux? Really?" I asked, looking through the tuxes, " Well, maybe this one. Black and gold. I mean, black and gold is good right?"
"I think it would be cute with your complexion." Julie smirked, " What do you think Marco?"
"I think Black and gold is unoriginal, but it would look good if that's what you like." he smiled.
"Thanks for the honesty in your opinion." I said, looking back at the tux.
"How much is it?" Julie asked.
"Doesn't matter, his parents are sorta rich." Marco said quickly.
"Doesn't mean they're paying for it." I sighed, " I mean, they are, but next time they might not. Remind me again why I'm going?"
"Because we're not gonna let certain people run us away from our own school." Julie said righteously.
"Right, so we're going to fight for our right to fight?" I asked.
"I guess. You could say that." Julie said.
"But I could be doing anything else." I said, " I just feel like I can't do it."
"Do what?" Marco asked.
" It's not important. I do have that whole 'tutoring' thing tomorrow." I said, " I just hope I don't get someone who's...ummm..."
"Remidial. You can just about count on it." Julie smiled.
"Right." I said, looking at the tux, " I'll take it."
I sat at my tutoring session, waiting for my tutee to come in. My mind swirled in a sea of confusion. The past two months were the blurriest. Blurry with a t and there was not in the word. The word was a very distinctive word. I wonder why I thought that word, I mean, there's hazy, vague, or just unclear. I'm thinking about this way too much, " Yeah, way, way too much." I said to myself
"What?" a voice said, causing me to look up. I saw Ballard looking down at me, " Don't tell me my tutor's gay and crazy."
"Oh no! You're kidding." I said, standing up.
"Huh. I said I wanted a tutor, not to be tuted." Ballard smirked.
"Right." I said, walking away.
Ballard reached out and grabbed my arm, " Hey, I need your help." he sighed.
"Then say it."
"What?"
"Say it." I smirked, crossing my arms.
Ballard breathed in, then out, " Look I..."
"Uh, uh, uh." I said.
"Will you please tutor me?" Ballard asked.
"I don't know, that might be a toughie." I said thoughtfully, " Ok, why not. I've got some hours to kill."
"So, you'll help me?" Ballard asked, " I knew you would."
"Why?" I asked.
"Not even guys can resist this." Ballard said walking to the table, " Stop looking at my ass."
I scoffed, " Yeah right." I said, quickly glancing at it, then walking to the table.
I was so tired when I got home that I went straight to my room and crashed on the bed. Ballard might have been a star athlete and a sexy guy, but Einstein he was not. I didn't mind though. I wasn't that smart either. I was smart, but not overly smart. I think I over think things. Wow, my bed is so comfy, so so comfy.
Ding Dong
I sighed and groaned as I got up. As I walked to the door, I slipped and slid across the floor and finally made my way to the door. I opened it to see Davis standing before me, sweaty and in a cut off shirt and his football pants. I was shocked to see him and even more shocked when he pulled flowers from behind him.
"What is this?" I asked, taking the flowers.
"I haven't seen you in a few days. Well, I've seen you, but we haven't really talked." Davis smiled, " Can I come in?"
"Duh." I smiled, " There's this thing I have about you not coming in. If you don't, I get a little testy."
"You too?" Davis asked, " I didn't know if you'd like the flowers, it's what I used to get all of my gir..."
"They're beautiful." I said quickly, " But why the sudden burst of chilvarious...ness. There's a lot of ness going on."
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about." Davis said nervously, " You know Prom is in a few days."
Oh god. He's gonna ask me! What'll I say? Yeah, of course! I nodded.
"Well, I, ummm...I'm going with Christina. We're going as friends and I just wanted you to not be surprised or anything." Davis said.
I was...I don't know. Lost? I was speechless, how could he do something like that? I mean, is he really that much of an idiot?! I cannot believe he's such a di... " Oh, yeah...surprised isn't me. I'm totally unsurprised." I lied.
"Are you sure, there was a silence." Davis said.
"That was the sound of me...dying a little inside." I smiled falsely, " Oh, I'm just kidding. I..."
"You're mad, I can tell." Davis said, standing, " Man, I just...I didn't know if you...or...Maybe there was..."
"I'm fine." I said, not even pretending anymore. I got up and walked to the kitchen. I opened the fridge and pulled out a pop, twisting top off.
Davis followed me, " Why are you doing that? I mean, did you seriously want me to go with you?" he asked.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, sitting the pop on the counter.
"I mean, two guys going with each other is a little suspicious." Davis chuckled.
I nodded, " Not suspicious, real." I said angrily.
"Babe, I'm sorry." Davis said.
"Davis, Prom is in a day and a half. You should be getting ready." I said, broken hearted, " I just...Is this how it's gonna be forever? Am I gonna be shadow guy? Is it a joke that I would want to go with you to the dance? We're just starting and I feel like we're just ending."
"Adaen..." Davis said, staring at me.
"You don't need this so close to Prom, I mean, Christina wouldn't like you to be preoccupied and it shouldn't take too long to get over me." I said, walking past him.
"Adaen!" he yelled after me.
"Let yourself out." I said, marching upstairs.
I stood in front of the mirror, looking at my own reflection. How could I be mad? how could I expect him to out himself when someone outed me.
"Are you ready?" Marco asked, standing next to Julie, who looked beautiful. So did Marco. They were perfect together.
"As ready as I'll ever be." I said, walking out with them.
Hannah sat in her room, looking at the tape recorder. The two voices played over and over in her mind. The words confused her more and more as she heard them. She couldn't believe it. Her boyfriend couldn't be...he couldn't have done this to her, to break her heart so. now she sat in her Prom dress. The black and gold glimmering everytime she hit the light. She played the tape once more.
"Han, they're he..." Zack stopped as the sound reached his ears, " What the FUCK is that?"
"It's a recorder." Hannah said, " Unless you're talking about the conversation, then I don't know, you tell me."
Zack looked at her, " Something that fag set up." he said angrily.
"Don't call him that." Hannah said, " You hit on him."
"Look, the car is here, are you coming or not." Zack said, avoiding her gaze.
"Answer the question." Hannah said, staring him down.
At the Prom, everyone had began to dance and we were all having fun! Marco, Harry, Vincent, Julie, Harry's date, Vincent's date, me, and a few more people were dancing in a big circle in the middle of the dance floor. Prom was so much better than I thought it would be. I, of course, was a little sad, but it melted off me when we left the house. As the song ended, we all headed to the table to sit.
"I didn't know you had those moves." Julie said to Marco.
"I'm movable." Marco smiled.
"Like a board." Harry laughed, causing our whole table to erupt with laughter.
"So, I haven't seen any sign of your little sis." Harry said.
"Probably with her new friends." Marco said, rolling his eyes.
"I wonder if Christina's eye healed," Patsy, Vincent's date said, " she spent the whole practice after the fight in the bathroom, putting on make-up." she laughed.
"She deserved it." Julie said.
"Speaking of the devil." I said, glancing back at the group that had just come in: Ballard, his date, Kendall, Bradley, Christina, Davis, Hannah, Zack, and some other guy, " Things are about to get interesting." I said to myself.
Davis went outside to get away from the party. He couldn't seem to keep his eyes off Adaen and Adaen had to have seen it. He just hoped that Christina or any of the others had seen it. He stood outside, trying to catch his breath.
"So, you had to get away from me, huh?" Christina said, walking up, " Didn't think we'd be coming to the Prom together."
"Shoe-in for King and Queen." Davis smiled.
"We could be a shoe-in for best couple." Christina said, " I mean, I know you said that we're not going back together, but you, me, us here..."
"I don't think it would be a good idea." Davis said nervously.
"We'll see what you think after this..." Christina said, pulling him into a kiss.
I saw Davis go outside, so I wanted to go and say hi. I wasn't sure if that's what I'd say, but it'd be something brilliant. I was shocked when I saw Davis and Christina kissing on the balcony. Davis saw me and pulled away from her quickly, but I was already gone. I ran back through Prom, past all the people.
"Where are you going?" Zack asked Hannah, who had risen.
"To see about him." Hannah said quickly.
"Why are you buying his crap?" Zack asked.
"I'm not. I'm just buying yours." She said, trying to walk away, but he grabbed her arm.
"We're not done." Zack growled.
Harry grabbed Zack and twisted his arm, " I think you might be, homeboy, now back up!" he said, pushing him away.
Zack looked from Hannah to Harry and walked away.
"Thanks." Hannah smiled.
"No prob." Harry said, " Come on, let's go party." he said, walking with her.
"Hey, anybody home?!" Marco shouted through the seemingly empty house. He walked into the house and stopped when he saw me laying on the couch in the dark, " Are you okay?"
"Me and Davis had an arguement...then I walked out and saw him and Christina kissing." I said weakly, " I just cannot catch a break."
"Why does he even matter to you?" Marco asked, " He's not worth it."
"No everybody can be you." I said.
"What do you mean?" Marco asked.
I sighed, " You were my first crush. You might not know, but you are like what I compare every guy to. He was close." I said quickly.
"Really?" he asked.
"Yeah, but it's embarrassing and maybe I shouldn't have said that. I shouldn't have said that...should I? I really shouldn'...." but I stopped as his tongue went down my throat.
"It's not that embarrassing." Marco smiled, laying me back. As we made out passionately, I felt his hands go down to my pants and I felt like I should stop it, but I wanted it. I wanted it so bad...
